    This is all footage from patreon livestreams.
    In this video I wanted to spotlight some suggestions from the community that I implemented since the last video a week ago. Various changes have been made including spotlight intensity and effects. Spotlights now emit a much more noticeable light and cast shadows as well. Heatray sounds have again been changed to sound closer to the films. Volumetric cloud rolling has been slowed down. Zoom in and out has been added to the spectate camera. The Uberpod's sounds have been made unique to differentiate them. Heatrays now persistently remove grass and leave a black mark.

      And just how much more terrifying the connection is between you and them, it almost feels like the entire map is a prison and those tripods are the guards. if they spot you your toast.
      Something as simple as the brightness on the spotlights makes so much difference in the game it is insane

      @@tranquilclaws8470 Hey, nice suggestion with the delay in the horn sounding to the tripod noticing. It really does give a sense of distance that the sound travels rather than the horn immediately attracting them as soon as it starts to sound.

    This movie was straight up a part of my childhood, so its absolutely amazing to see this movie being turned into an amazing game

    People need to rememeber this is a small team, if not a single developer.
    Suggestions are great, but be realistic for the work that has to go into making it. Alot of these suggestions are incredibly labor inducing and require alot of coding and work to add even the smallest things to the game.
    I think the ideas that have been implemented are fantastic and I'm blown away by what has been shown. But please, don't just add heaps of massive changes because a few people thought it would be cool.
    Thats my suggestion, keep up the fantastic work!

      Agreed. I'm keeping my expectations tempered. We'll see where they goes with it. I'm just learning game dev and alot of this stuff is not easy unless they unless they get plug ins or out source.

      @@cmpc724 as a cheat code to destructible houses, the team could do it like Destroy All Humans does/did it where the building has health, depleted will send the model downward into the ground, and smoke fx will cover the newly spawned broken house model. It's quite hacky, but tbh it gets the job done from a concept perspective!

      @@stahl1624 It is good to have a suggestion/feedback section for your game to see what people want most. You’re not obligated to add things that people suggest, you can just look at the suggestions and think of ways to improve your game with the feedback that has been given. You will know what people want most because people are able to like the suggestions. There may also be things that have been suggested that you haven’t actually thought about yet. Having feedback on your game is a very important thing, because you will know what needs to be improved. There will be some guys that make terrible suggestions of course, but then you will also get the odd suggestion that is really good. Other experienced game developers may even give you feedback on what you need to improve.

    Throwing up some dust particles where the tripods feet land would really help sell them as being really big and heavy in my opinion

      I agree it would also hide the minor clipping that would likely be inevitable unless the dev wants to spend a lot of time getting it to connect perfectly. Dust on touchdown and maybe even liftoff too and then ambient dust afterwards?

    I loved the movie but it always scared the crap out of me. I feel like this game is going to give me actual nightmares and I'm *so ready for it* .

      I already HAVE nightmares of the movie, still to this day, so being able to be in control unlike in my dreams where I always die, at least this game gives me, a chance.

    My suggestion: In 1:57 We can see the tripod's foot stepping on the ground, how about adding debris and small particles on impact when the foot hits the ground based on the texture of the ground?

    I just finished re-listening to the audiobook yesterday (yes inspired by this) and I completely forgot about the Thunderchild! The ship that attacked 1 tripod victoriously and then made a sacrifice attack on a 2nd, which saved a ferry of escapees. I love that scene and even though it didn't happen in the movie or radioplay, I'd love to see a naval warfare part, or at least a reference to it, maybe a sunken destroyer in a harbor or a painting hanging in a house or a toy boat in a bathtub labelled "Thunderchild"
    This game gets me excited man

    Great video, I really like it however I would like to recommend a few suggestions.
    -I think if a Tripod spots you, the spotlight should be less shakier, it shouldn’t be going in random directions and focused on one spot where they spotted you
    -The spotlight brightnesses could increase as the Tripod gets near you, it has like a very cool blinding effect and does add on to the sense of alertness that the Tripod is getting near

    honestly massive respects to the devs. its always so nice to see them actually reading suggestions and perhaps even putting them into the game. i really wish other devs/game companies would do that. it gives me the feel that the people making this game actually care about the experience instead of just making this game as a cash grab. i cannot wait to get my grubby finger on this game it looks and sounds fantastic

    I suggest that when the tripods legs move through a house the wood pieces fly out in a realistic way

      I'd think the pilots would be careful not to just trample through any houses, it wasn't something that happens in the movie but if a Tripod spotted you or even caught a glimpse of you then depending on what they have like in the example shown when the Tripod turned around suddenly, it came right over to where it last saw the player and looked around the area for them, if the Tripod has heat rays it might take a few shots with them either at whatever cover you might be running too or around the area if it can't immediately find you after reaching your last known location, but if they have tentacles when they reach your last known location they will probe the building they saw you going towards thinking you are there, if they can't find you with that probe they'll move on allowing you to slip away.

      That may be down to how the game engine itself is able to render such destruction. But yeah it would be cool to see like day 5 the houses are not that good to hide in after destruction.

      Technically if this was a scene in the movie, the tripods would use their power attack and blow away the house the player was hiding at. However, including the power attack would make this game impossible.

      Considering the harvest behaviour, destroying the house is not a good idea for them.

      True, I mean, but then this makes probing buildings become so much more difficult. As the probe tentacle could accidently trigger a collision and thus it requires a whole lot of code to revamp and correct. Making the Probe Tentacle more non-collide would result in likely phasing through walls and ceilings.
      I would love to see collateral damage done to buildings too, but it seems to be difficult to do and they may be using premade assets so destroying parts of a house may be difficult to implement.

      While suggestions are good it ends up falling apart if all they do is listen to suggestions. Game developers should work in the necessities and work their way down to small details. Adding in new things all the time causes general features to be unpolished due to lack of focus.

      @@Fyrdman Well, on its own, that isnt a bad thing. You want to make a good game, and players WANT to have an awesome game to play and experience. For developers, it is natural to listen to their fans for suggestions to improve the game, especially if the devs are new, or using older source material for their game (as is this case).
      If you want a good game around some kind of movie or book, or anything really, you have basically 2 choices: make it yourself, or give some suggestions to someone who IS making it.

    the tripods horn are amazing, in my humble suggestion about the bass, I think it could be a little slower and with a little lower tone, because that would give a more threatening sound, and also a variation in the horns, especially when the tripods find humans.

      that original deep foghorn from the movie is a tough act to follow, one of the craziest sounds in modern sci-fi
      the only thing that might come close is that weird slow wooping tornado alarms from out west/midwest

      yeah, the bass is deeper and with a menacing tone that sends shivers down the spine, and there's no way to reproduce it like the movie, but there's a way to try to get close, the bass of the uberpod is sinister, I think the normal tripods can make it something evil too

    heres a suggestion,
    on coastal maps (maps set near the coast or a large body of water) you should be able to see battleships either laying destroyed, waiting for a enemy (Martians.), or fighting them, i think that would be so cool to see, maybe distant evacuation ships leaving aswell.

      Amazing right, it only makes sense to make the Uberpods sound as scary as they look and act. I am very happy that suggestion was added as I was also one of the people that suggested that. This game is gonna scare me when I am able to play it, I just know it. But this is one of those horror games I would play in a heartbeat.

    1:37 I have a suggestion can the tripod couch and look through the windows of the house before probing it to add horror element because seeing the tripod unable to kill the player like this is boring but the game is so cool and scary I love the lights it gives the player since of like he can't hide or run keep working thank you 🥰

      @@lieslheiter6793 in the camolet scene (deleted scene)the tripod letterly darg people out of the building without even probing the building which prov that tripods can look through widows so best hiding place is basement but, really if steven didn't delet this scene it was gonna add a horror element like you can't run or even hide from them if they wanted to get you they would get you they are the dominant NOW ON EARTH!

    I feel like there should be debris and sediment flying everywhere whenever a tripod takes a step to make the tripods seem more heavy and hulking, it would also just make more sense

    You definitely need to add more destructive effects when it comes to the steps of the tripods. The moment where’d it’s leg came over the house would of been 10x more scary and dramatic if it caused damage to the house and to the floor when it stepped.

    THIS IS REALLY HAPPENIG! I remember I walked out the movie theater in 2005 ( I watched the movie three times with my mom) amazed about of how good of film it was and how captured the environment. The first thing that I thought walking out was I wish there's a game that would capture this same feeling. During the marketing of the movie there was this little click and point game in their website, even though I didn't know what the **** I was doing I was enjoying the pure feeling of avoiding these extraterrestrial machines. Years later someone captures that same feeling of one of my favorite movies of all time, to the developers of this game you're bringing one of my dreams to life and I can't thank you enough. I wish you the best and I hope that this game becomes the next big thing.

    Eventually i hope the sound mixing gets some required love. Some of the sounds are just to loud or unrefined based on location distance etc. Now this might be nit picking and i don';t really care at this stage what the sound is like. The fact that you guys are pumping so much new content is simply amazing!

    Every new video just gets me even more excited. I've been a huge War Of The Worlds fan ever since the 2005 movie came out, it had a huge impact on me when I was little. Ever since then I always wanted a survival game based off of it. And you delivered! I can't wait to see the full finished product. ❤

    I like that the tripod spot lights are improved alot, the tripods look and move almost identical to tripods in the movie 1:10 2:39 2:58

    ive been lurking on this project for a while heres my suggestion... i really think you need to add scout drones roaming around the streets or houses to add more danger of being caught. like the ones in the basement of the movies but maybe just floating around.

    It's great that the game is at the point of nitpicking tiny details. Much respect to the hard work put into this.
    An unimportant opinion I have is the horn at 2:17 sounds more like a dope ass dubstep bass drop rather than a scary horn. It honestly doesn't need to be changed, I like it regardless, but in the final stages of development maybe that can be something to mess with a little bit to see different sounds.
    Again amazing work. I wish I wasn't broke so I could full on support this.

    I've noticed in the videos that your explosions clip the audio really really really bad. You don't want to go above a loudness of 0db (which in audio work is very loud) or you begin to lose the detail of the sound. But obviously an explosion is very loud and should drown out everything else. So what you do is you program every other sound to lower in volume when the explosion hits. This gives the illusion that the explosion is very loud

    This is so amazing! More Uber/Warrior Tripod gameplay is awesome to see. I also love how there’s an implied horn for them as we didn’t (at least to my memory) get an actual Uber/Warrior tripod horn sounding off. Tho probably would’ve been the same sound as normal tripods but just more menacing. This is looking intense I can’t wait to play this.

    I have a idea for the game that could bring more of a atmosphere to the game. This idea is environmental sounds such as a TV's static and a radio making distorted sounds. The idea is once a player decides to enter a building a random number generator will be used to see how long it will be until a sound begins. The idea of scavenging a house or something to then hear a radio give its last breath of life as screaming and Tripods are heard until it changes to static to represent destruction of the radio station could make a player feel quite powerless. For all the player knows an entire town may have just gotten destroyed and all they could do was just listen to the panic as people were dying. This could also be possibly used to attract Probes so if one enters the house and a sound is being made it will make the Probe come towards a certain area if the house. This could be something to give the player an advantage but also could create a panic if a sound is being made from the room that the player is currently in.

      heres a idea for the radio things you were talking about:
      how about in early chapters radio's will talk about refugee camps and reinforcements for the military. later on in the early chapters as the military realizes they can do little to stop it they broadcast evacuation points.
      in later chapters most radios will just emit static, with a rare chance of civilians talking about hideouts n stuff. then finally, just static.
      kinda like project : zomboid.

    For game modes, I'm not sure what you have planned but a standard "survive until day X" would work where at the end you start coming across dead tripods as infection kills them off until the last one falls and there's a fade to black with a quote from the original book to end the session.

      Additional quality of life details would be making the tripods that are about to die more sluggish; as if they were having trouble going through regular functions the closer they came to death.
      This would also avoid the corny look of totally healthy tripods just abruptly going kaput.

    There should totally be a “hardcore mode” where the machine can spot you even easier from afar or when you peak at it enough when it’s nearby from a house. It would be so scary to grab it’s attention then it comes to your house and probes it haha

    Have you thought about doing a dev diary segment, where you upload yourself talking over gameplay while answering questions, talking about your current dev goals and hurdles, etc etc? I think that would be both very entertaining, and also very enlightening for us to see your vision, as well as get to know you!

    Now, I know next to nothing about any lore in this universe, but I think it would be nice to have them sound their war horns more often. It's a chilling sound and I think it would be a great way to instill fear in the player!

    Something that would be kind of cool is flares to use as a distraction, similar to how Generation Zero uses them. They're a good way of throwing machines off your trail but using them does put them into an alert mode. Something like this could be really cool in this game.

    Okay, first of all, the tripod animations look so damn smooth that I am left in awe at now realistically they move. A couple times it just suddenly clips, but, overall it looks so good.

    These changes are absolutely fantastic. One thing i wanted to interject myself is that sometimes the sound can feel a bit strange, like at 1:50 where you are outside in front of the house, yet it sounds like you are surrounded by walls. This for me gives a sense that the tripod is further than they actually are.
    (keep in mind i am not a developer or sound designer so i have no clue how any of this works and how hard it is to develop, and it is incredibly impressive what you have already done with the sound design in this game)

    Awesome! One minor thing that could improve the realism of distance a bit: at 1:07 you can see the laser starting to fire and at the same time you hear it. At those distances, in reality the sound would be delayed by 300ms or so. So when playing a laser sound, just delay it by distanceToPlayer/343 seconds (343 is the speed of sound). Also, it would sound different based on distance (air absorbs certain frequencies), but to take that into account it would be easiest to use SteamAudio or something like that, which automatically computes air absorption as well as gives you binaural sound, sound propagation based on walls and materials etc.

    Holy Crap!!! This looks so good! I love the spot light effects on the environment. I'd love to see the technique the tripods use like grabbing people through windows of a building from the deleted scene "Camelot" in the 2005 movie.

    My only suggestion just as someone who loves the movie and most earlier Spielberg work, I think the most intrepid part of the movie is the way the storm was so intense… I suggest getting the best real hq weather thunder loops and giving the real environmental justice to those scenes. It’s like Jurassic park. The rain scene with the T. rex breakout would not have been so gritty and scary without the rain and wind. I know as I’ve watched everything so far, you guys are on it. And it’s already near perfect in my eyes. Just needs some nice weather to keep that horror element alive. Loving the fog and all the graphics upgrades, the grass moving in wind gusts. Love that. My opinion is to rustle tree leaves too, as the trees are brilliantly bending with the wind but the leaves are static.

    a suggestion is that I recommend making night a bit more darker, where you would require a flashlight or lantern or something which would make the tripods easily see you maybe.

    This game looks so awesome, I think all the changes are great! This might be a suggestion for way later down the line, but I feel one thing that would be awesome is having more immerisve ways to try and hide when out in the woodlands that feel not only safe but immersive. Like little water channels in the country that you can duck down in with you getting wet from the water splashing, muddy culverts you can crawl under that are full of mud and so on. Things you can almost feel by just the sounds and look while also being genuinely helpful.

    I fell in love with this movie the first time I watched it, although it admittedly scared the shit out of me. I’ve watched it a bunch more times since the first time, and I never get tired of watching it. The premise of the alien invasion and the unorthodox nature of the Tripods and the way they work is really intriguing to me, plus I’m a huge Sci-Fi fan, so you can imagine how this movie peaks my interest in many other ways. I’m already really liking the way this game looks, and it’s not even in an Alpha Test state yet! Furthermore, I can’t believe that with such a small team, you’ve made a game this great! Keep up the good work, I will definitely be buying this when it comes out.

    Awesome stuff! I love updates with tons of focus on pure tripod action. Just wanted to offer my usual (slightly more than) 2 cents.
    The new close-up beam sound is very close! I think maybe if the "frequency" and tone of the buzz was lowered a bit it could sound perfect. The one in the film has a bit of bassiness to it, as well as a bit of that occasional, "whip"-like cracking sound that you can faintly hear in some of your custom distant beam sounds. I don't mean to nitpick, but that close up-beam is gonna be the main way tripods kill you, so it has to really feel right.
    I'm not sure how I feel about the uber tripod having a unique horn. I almost wish it had the same horn as the rest, that way you won't know it's an uber tripod until you see it, adding some uncertainty and panic when this massive tripod, way bigger than you were expecting, crests the horizon. As it is, it *sounds* bigger and badder, so you'll almost be expecting it.
    The lighting effects continue to improve! I especially love the look produced at 1:40 when the tripod's spotlight casts over the house; the subtle colors, shadow and bloom of it looks very realistic. I hope you'll use that to inform the lighting design for the rest of it; lots of cast lights and shadowing will go a long way for filmic realism. Just needs to be a little darker in my opinion, but I'm sure that'll be customizable.
    One final nitpick: I think the tripod engine sound may be running a little bit fast. I compared it to the film and the sound in the film seems to have a slightly slower beat (but still at the same pitch), whereas in some scenes in the game it can get a little grating over long periods because of the faster pace and repetition.
    All in all, keep it up! I constantly look forward to your updates, and I love how much you listen to fans. We all want this to be the perfect War of the Worlds game and it's amazing how close you're getting.

    Loving how the game is coming alive I’ve always wanted a game based off the movie for so long and We’re actually getting one! I think it’d be cool if there would be like larger military convoys going around to try to fight the tripods that’d be cool. And hopefully the terrain could be deformed from battles like craters and stuff like that. And I hope that there would be some like dynamic building destruction from the tripods stepping on houses and kicking through neighborhoods.

    A cool little detail to add down the road might be to change the shape of the force field around the tripods. In the film, particularly the part where Ogilvy shouts to Ray as the tripods are coming over the hill, we can clearly see that their Shields are almost like a display dome around a flower - a half spherical top with sides that then go straight to the ground instead of tapering inwards like the shape of an egg that the force fields currently have. I think in the 2005 movie this was actually a holdover from the 1953 film that Spielberg wanted to keep in as a sort of reference. I'm loving the work so far and I can't wait to see it released! Definitely going to be one of the best survival horror games on Steam

    ...ambient wind sounds, perhaps? (DayZ, for example) Will this be PvP among it all as well? ...if not now, please consider. Gun noises could draw in a pod if it wasn't active in a more important situation... make you think twice about killing someone. I seen birds flying around a pod in one of your vids, make them audible, if there aren't any menacing sounds to really be heard. Sounds can draw people in - as well as danger.
    +edit: house creaking with the pod right outside, the vibration too much for the house frame *creeeeeeeak* maybe small items could vibrate off shelves?

    Legit when you were highlighting the spotlight changes and you ran to the house when it might have seen you: I got chills as you hear it come search for you. That element of "oh god oh god oh god" when you know it's a massive martian machine HUNTING you is exactly the feeling I would want in a game like this. Well done

    One thing I think would be pretty cool to add is that maybe if you survive long enough or something like that, you could unlock different skins for the tripods, like the the original 1898 illustrations and the 1953 movie hover pods, and maybe some others. With or without different skins, this project is incredible.

    I think a good addition would be for the tripods to stop and look around, as seen in the movie at the ferry where the tripod stopped at the top of the hill to call allies to him! That would be so scary to just see a tripod stop chasing you to call for support!
