How the little piggies will grunt when they hear how the old boar suffered 😤😈
Ragnar did allegedly say this when he died according to history.
@@ulysses1692 That's what he said 👆!!!
@@danzetterstrom7917 *according to myth. Ragnar is not a historical figure atm
Exactly. Which is why it's not historical data and still a myth. The people that called himself Ragnar's sons didn't even live in the same area, let alone during the same time period. There are many mythological figures like this in history. Heracles, for example. Not to be confused with Hercules, who was also very likely a combination of several other hero figures, including the Greek Heracles. Same with most biblical figures aswell.
For a person to be a historical figure, contemporary records must exist, outside of the initial source or retells of that source. Since there are no records about most Scandinavian, Norse and Germanic history until years after Ragnar supposingly lived, he cannot be considered a historical figure
I love that quote, and it's meaning(s)...but yeah, that was a real quote. The way Michael Hirst wove all the characters & historic stories together is just amazing.
RIP Ragnar Lothbrook!

Egbert did his own walk of atonement, for sending a man to die he didn't want to die.
But I like egbert so much as a charater... idk what happens next but it borthers me that his sons will go after him and not the chubby king. But I guess its what Ragnar wanted... and its a bigger kingdom

You can tell this hit Steven hard....
The closest I've seen him coming to tears!
The fact that Travis got bitten by Real Snakes to make it look realistic is unfathomable! Even if there is no poison I mean come on this is just insane ! And not only that he rewrote this speech himself because the original wasn't strong enough I can applaud for a year truly!
It also took him forever to get the last speech out cuz he was choking up so bad in real life
I was there, Travis was up in that cage for soo long and it was absolutely freezing cold. Stunning performance and it's a travesty that he and Vikings don't get more recognition from the Emmys
@@Xanivert he absolutely was bitten by the snakes. I'll try to find and link the interview
In fact, the snakes we see bitting him on screen are CGI, but for the rest of the scenes where he's laying in the snake pit they used real snakes and indeed, some of them actually bit him during the shooting. That's what I understood from interviews (but I may have been wrong.) Awesome performance by Travis.
@@Grumbo91 Wow!! You were there that must feel really special ! This was one of the best acted scenes ever made. The fact that it was also this cold only adds for the respect I have for him . Thanks for sharing.
I have never ever seen Steven of all people Tear up .....Now thats Epic way to go Ragnar Lothbrok
The young Ragnar looks so much like Ubbe .... the same haircut kinda helps
Zoe Blackmore they did an excellent job casting the sons of Ragnar. The actor who plays Bjorn resembles him, the actor who plays Ubbe could be his body double from seasons 1 & 2, the actor who plays Ivar resembles him around the eyes & eyebrows
@@invisigoth510 Alex Andersen (Ivar) has his mannerisms down pat. Ragnar used to do a thing when he would walk into a room and just size everyone up and laugh to himself, Ivar does the same thing.
Ubbe acts so much like Ragnar. Even with the little sniffle he does while he talks
@@paulp9274 I couldn't agree more.. Alexander Ludwig (Bjorn) also had his speech patterns down too, even to the little inflections. When he'd do the "rally the troops" speeches it reminded me so much of Ragnar .

Since episode 1 i was like oh there not gonna like what happens...lol
Since before they even began reacting 😅

Nikki & Steven took it ways i hadnt imagined/expected though ! :P
The flashback scene always gets me. Every single time.
The original plan by the producer was to kill off Ragnar a lot earlier than this. This show was conceived to be about the sons of Ragnar, hence the title "Vikings". But because Travis Fimmel was so charismatic Ragnar lasted for several seasons longer than planned.
"How the little piggies will grunt, when they hear how the old boar suffered" 😢
Ragnar is honestly one of the best Characters in any show ever. R.I.P.
" be ruthless... " remember that last phrase from ragnar to ivar
Sadly, Ragnar and the snake pit is one of the more historical parts of the show :(
@Tan Jenner no no no... YOU dont know. Dont take ur ignorance out on others
@Tan Jenner still according to ancient runes snake pit is most common know fact about ragnar, also many things fit in history, floki ar ragnar sons names etc
@Jacob Sirak well morality and justice did exist, but not the same way we view them now. Morality always came from the place of power, not from a theoretical "good". I.e. the king, the high priest, the pope etc. Consequentialism is surprisingly a recent splash in the moral landscape.
@@prs_81 In an atheistic world, there are no such things as morals because morals are subjective technically. We can only have objective morals in a world with God because only He has the right and wisdom to implement them. No human can possibly have that knowledge for all times right?
Sorry what hahaha most of Ragnar stories are myths the first attack on lindsfarne was in 793ad the Vikings didn’t attack Paris until 100 years later. Even his sons are only partly historically accurate they existed but even then their stories are stretched
This was one of the most powerful episodes in Vikings. Probably one of the most I've ever seen. Travis Fimmel is _such_ a phenomenal actor.
I still tear up when I see his final speech and those flashbacks get me every time. The whole episode is just so moving.
I loved Ragnar, he's one of my most favorite characters of all time so losing one of my faves was _devastating_ to say the least.
Eckbert truly loved and respected Rhagnar. That's why he was there.
True. There's a mutual respect and admiration between Egbert and Ragnar, yet they're both able to set it aside in order to further their own goals (Egbert destroying the settlement, Ragnar directing the wrath if his sons towards Egbert).
*What have you heard about king Egbert* ?
*That he's just like you*
Rania Lian Earlier in the show (maybe S2) Ecbert tells Aethelwulf, “I have no friends.” This episode, Elbert calls Ragnar his friend
In the extended version, when Ragnar speaks with the seer, there is a time when Ragnar mentions Lagertha, basically he explains that the seer manipulates the destinies of people in a certain way, because he told Lagertha that she could never have another child, then she took a chance and lost the son she expected, but if she hadn't heard it, maybe she would be happy with another son. You can also interpret Rollo's decision to stay in Paris in some way because that was his "destiny", but basically his destiny was influenced by the seer.
What did the seer say about lagertha to ragnar
@@mylesgaillard300 I don't remember it well, but it was something like "If you (the seer) wouldn't have told Lagertha she won't have any more sons, perhaps she wouldn't have risked it in battle"
Also Ragnar was probably more willing to lay his bets on Aslaug for more sons after the seer said Lagertha wouldn’t have any more. That led to her leaving & him being unhappier even tho he did have his sons.
The one im watching its there the seer did tell ragnar that maybe he was wrong and ragnar said you said what???and the seer dissapeared
Dang.. I wish more people saw the uncut version of Ragnar talking to the Seer. Its so good.
That talk about Lagertha is amazing. It's a pity it was cut from this version. It doens't make any sense and everybody said that. What were they thinking (american version)?
They should do a separate reaction to that one full scene.
Where can I see it
@@homelesswerido8271 Search up "extended Ragnar seer talk" on UA-cam, it's extremely good.
This was to me one of the saddest moment in TV history. This episode makes everyone cry, always.
Remember back in season one when King Aelle swore to have his vengeance on Ragnar and everyone laughed...
They had a promo with like a 2 second shot of the snake pit at the end of season 1 when they announced they were renewed. This show was originally planned as an anthology, so season 2 premiere would have probably been the end of Ragnar, then they move on to another story.
I remember Steven laughing and saying "Pft, no you wont" when Ælla said that, and we all just knew that it would become a reality 😫
derps0n
The main story was intended to follow Ragnar’s sons that’s why.
I recommend you watch a tribute video called ''The Choice'', probably the most popular tribute video ever of Ragnar.

Rest in Valhalla Ragnar, my favorite television character of all-time. Travis Fimmel crushed this role, and deserved multiple Emmy's. Thank you so much for reacting to this incredible series. It's truly amazing.
It's a travesty that he and Vikings don't get more recognition from the Emmys
Rest? No, feast in Valhalla! 🍺

In an interview, someone said that Ragnar wasn't supposed to last past season 1, but they liked the Travis Fimmel so much they couldn't kill him off.
That peptalk Ragnar gave Ivar was so epic i was prepared to go and raid Englad.
that music when Ragnar died is called Snake Pit Poetry by Einar Selvik>Warduna
I loved the Ragnar and King Eckbert relationship. Such a complex dynamic filled with both respect and disdain for one another but both of whom looked at each other as worthy adversaries in seeking their legacies. That final stare from Ragnar and smile from Eckbert really made me tear up.
Steven's reaction of pure frustration is priceless. Geeze Nikki no sobbing WOW I cried like a baby
The day has come...
"You have many gifts, and anger is a gift. What is in here is a gift. You do not think like other men. You are unpredictable. That will serve you well. Use your anger intelligently, and I promise you my son, that one day the whole world will know and fear Ivar the Boneless."
"People will always underestimate you, you must make them pay for it."
"Be Ruthless"

The Saga of Ragnar Lothbrok ends & The legend of his Sons begin.
This is it guys 😭 it is okay to cry to this episode. I sure did the first three times i watched it
ALSO STEVEN WAS HOLDING HIS TEARS IN SO BAD! MUCH RESPECT BROTHER I CRY EVERY SINGLE TIME. THIS EPISODE WAS DONE SO WELL MAN
Ragnar's only goal since he came back from his 10 year "vacation" was to get revenge for the destruction of the settlement, EVERYTHING he's done since then has been to serve that purpose.
Since he couldn't convince his sons and the people of Kattegat to raid with him, he went for plan B, and now they all have the motivation to do so.
Notice that Ragnar didn't scream in paine once. Odin will let him enter Valhalla.... Skål!
Ragnar was like “bitch, we blood eagle people where I’m from, is that all you got?” Ragnar would most likely be ready to endure something like that, so what Ælle did to hurt him was nowhere near that. He’s old, but still alpha as fuck.
I wonder if in their religion they had the same ideas as Christianity…. Like if you don’t believe at your death then you don’t make it to heaven. With that being said, I just wonder if he is in Valhalla considering he didn’t fully believe at the end. He did everything to get in his entire life, he had just lost his faith by the end of his life. The lines at the end were like he said, for his people his sons because they believed and that was very important to not disillusion the rest of the population like he had been. I feel like that was a main source of his unhappiness, of course along with Athelstan’s death. I know this is just a show, I’m just too high and thinking about it too much.
One of the best episodes of any tv-series, film or whatever. Just epic. Inspiring. Emotional. Art.
Hail King Ragnar Lothbrok
Seeing that scene where it showed all his life and relationships and what he been through seeing young bjorn and gida just makes you wish he stayed at the farm 😭 didn’t want to watch the show without ragnar 😩 so much has changed kattegat has changed all these characters are their own people now leading their own paths just shows how far these characters have developed
That is how you build a character and make us feel emotional about is his death, props to the director
Ragnar is my all time favorite TV Show character. LEGENDARY
That's what he said, he didn't say "I love you", he didn't say "win some land to farm for your people", he didn't say to "win your glory", he said to be ruthless
14:14 FIRST TIME I'VE SEEN STEVEN CRY, GOD DAYUM.
OMG! I don't know what was harder to watch, watching Ragnar die the first time, or watching you guys ,watching it for the fist time!! He went down like a badass VIKING! Honestly, my heart was breaking for both of you!!
One of my favorite scenes that no one ever shows is when Ragnar talking about how Lagertha lost her baby only because the Seer told her she's not gonna have children
Very true. The sad thing is that people surrender to their "fate".
What country are you watching in? I’m guessing that scene doesn’t exist in the American version of this show. I watched this episode for the first time yesterday on Hulu and it’s not there.
When they had ragnar on his knees on the ground, Steven looked like a kid when their mom said they couldn't get a toy at walmart!!!😂😂🤣🤣
Every man cried after 4x15..
Sigurd said Ragnar can't die it's true, Ragnar will always stays in the spirits.
Looking at Steven's face during this episode was a torture... I know how you feel bro ❤️😭
The scenes with Ivar and Ragnar are probably my favorite for the entire show. I love their interactions together.
When Ragnar started seeing his life in flashbacks...I lost it. I was teary eyed like Steven prior to that but when we saw scenes of young Ragnar and remember his journey from season 1 ...waterworks.
“It gladdens me to know that Odin prepares for a feast.” Love the speech, especially knowing it’s all an act for his people’s sake.
This serie man...when both Ragnar and Lagertha died...its breaks the most manly of men.. Vikings is pure gold and will always be ...
One small quote from game called Skyrim:"A Nord(Northman) last thoughts should be of home",and I think the scene when Ragnar is dreaming of all his family and friends, really puts great sort of feeling around it.I loved it
The carriage scene is a lot better in the extended version. It's just a couple of lines, but it adds so much.
I cried like a baby when I saw this episode. Been waiting for courage to see it again with you. It's peace now in my heart. Thank you guys.
18:40 Damn i LOVE Ivar's theme, it's so tense!
Many of us cried through this episode...when I first watched it I couldn't see it because of all my tears...such a heartbreaking episode!!
From extended/ deleted scene during the cart ride with the blind man (iirc); Ragnar: “So you (the seer) presented her (Lagertha) a destiny (never bear another child) and she manifested it”
I have watched this many times and I still cry during this episode. Ragnar will always be one of my favorite characters.
This show is based "loosely" on historical records which meant from episode 1 Ragnar was always gonna end up getting killed by Aella in a pit of snakes. Rollo was always gonna end up becoming a French monarch and so on. It's sad but it is what it is.
Odd to think that almost all traditional European monarchies have Rollo in their family tree. Elizabeth II is even a descendent of Rollo.
@@Robertz1986 Not just monarchs but most people of Western European descent, including me.
wow youre so special@@BrendanBeckett
Relationships are complicated and Ecbert and Ragnar’s relationship was no different. They were both brilliant, ambitious men. They were both enemies and friends. Ragnar was genuinely fond of Ecbert but that didn’t change his plans. Ecbert was fond of Ragnar but he still had to rid his court of conspirators so the settlement had to go. Both of them fully understood the other. You think Ragnar fooled Ecbert? Or do you think Ecbert knows the Sons of Ragnar will be coming regardless? Of course he knows. He knows because that’s what he would do.
His talk with the seer is the best moment in this show
Awww Steven, bless your heart. That’s the closest we’ve ever seen you to almost crying. It nearly got you!
Those flashbacks really are so emotional. 😭
Out of all the episodes of Vikings, this was the episode I was looking forward for both of you to react. Ragnar was such an amazing character, his last words were legendary. Definitely made a grown man, shed a tear lol feelsbad
I think Eckbert walked barefoot and in plain robes (not just for disguise) but as penance. It's like the pilgrimage he sent Alfred and Aethelwolf on. (Sorry about the spellings.) And maybe in a way, to pay homage to the gods that neither of them truly believe in any more. And perhaps so that Ragnar wouldn't die alone.
No matter how many times you see this death, it brings a tear to your eye.
