It's not just the ink window, if it's like any other safari the bottom also has small holes in it and I'm assuming that is for choking hazard purposes, if it's their entry pen they might have to consider younger people using it. The rollerball version seems to have the same holes at the bottom of the barrel too so it's not like they can use that one either.
I'd been passing on the ECO until there was one included with a recent order by mistake. I opened it, tried it, and I love it! I emailed your customer care team to offer to pay for it if they had a way to invoice it. Your customer care emailed me back, allowing me to keep the pen free of charge. Looks like your team is well set up to promote customer loyalty! I offer this publicly to assuage my conscience. If you invoice me, I will pay! And please thank your team for being awesome!
Hey Goulet crew, I'm a recent inductee to the fountain pen hobby (got into it earlier this year). I've bought a number of pens from you guys and have had a great experience and pleasure with every order, from the lower priced pens I got at the start to some gold nibs I've ordered more recently. My first demonstrator was my transparent Pilot explorer which was a real game changer for me with fountain pens. I'm a receptionist at a vet clinic that still uses paper copies of medical charts with handwritten notes so there is a lot of writing I do at work every day and I loved how great this pen performed. For me it was more comfortable to hold than my metropolitan and the fine nib on the explorer performed better on our terrible paper than my metropolitan's medium. It was also the first pen I put a converter in and I LOVED showing off to my coworkers how the ink sloshed around inside the con 70. A bit later in the year I noticed another demonstrator on sale on your site which I am super proud to say is my Taccia Spotlight clear demonstrator with an extra fine nib and holy smokes what a pen!! Having lived in the world of the metropolitans, explorers and safaris this pen had an enormous wow factor for me the second I even held it. The step up in quality of material and nib performance put this pen in a league I had never been in before and honestly I'm a bit surprised this pen hasn't gotten more hype and love from the community. I totally understand that demonstrators with converters and completely transparent caps aren't everyone's cup of tea but I love this pen's aesthetics! I've swapped out the converter it came with for a gold trim sailor converter that IMO complements the beautiful two-tone nib better and have it inked with sailor manyo kikyou. This is THE pen I'm taking with me to work every day and I absolutely cannot believe I snagged it from you guys for like $80. In summary: Demonstrators hold a dear place in my heart because these two pens are what really pushed my passion for this hobby to the place it is today and anyone in the comments reading this who has never heard of the spotlight should definitely give it look! Thank you Goulet pen team for all your hard work and amazing content you put out on this channel. You all are my go-to pen store for a very well deserved reason!
My favourite demonstrator pen: TWSBI Diamond Mini in rose gold. A joy to write with. Great video Brian! Hey Platinum: I'd love to see you recreate the Platinum 3776 (Kumpoo). Teal colour is mesmerizing.
I was gutted when I got the twsbi based on the many mentioned in your channel. Then,.. i changed the nib, from stub to medium. That made a world of difference. Now, I love the pen! Thanks.
The Jinhao 9019 are really amazing pens for the price. And the clear demonstrator and the blue are also really good looking. Ok for large hand’s people Brian 😄😄
I love demonstrator pens. I love being able to see the ink, especially the shimmering inks. I have a number from your store. My favorite is the Twsbi Diamond 580 with iridescent trim. I have lots of Preppies and Monteverdi Monzas. I have a couple of LAMY demonstrators. Ah, fountain pens!
Re: the LAMY Vista, I like it better than the regular Safari because the clear resin gives it a bit more weight and better feel. I only have two pens now, but it's definitely my favorite.
Love this and now I have more pens on my "I Want" list! One of my favorite demonstrators - Pelikan M200 Golden Beryl! It's so beautiful and writes smooth.
My favorite demonstrator in my own collection is the Taccia Spotlight (mine is in Airline Blue). I got it at Goulet, but it looks like you're not carrying them anymore. It's a gorgeous pen and writes very nicely.
I love the Lamy Safari _(transparent)_ fountain pens like their relative Lamy Roller Ball. Its great to demonstrate how it works, like the semi-automatic ink cartridge loading thing, that you demonstrated in another video. Even at the end of the roller ball barrel has the same posts as the Lamy Safari fountain pen! *_Genius!_* Those people are quite cleaver at Lamy!
I hesitate a little on designating cartridge/converter pens as distinguished demonstrators. Looking at the cartridge/converter doesn't come close to looking at the full barrel of ink in a piston or eyedropper pen.
You’re onto something, because that is a good point. I named seven favorite clear demos, four of which are c/c filling and three piston fillers. But even the c/c fillers I love have fantastic clear barrels that are nice to look at in their own right, regardless of the interior parts.
Nooooo, not the Kumpoo!! I love Platinum and I love teal pens, but I'm newer to the hobby and missed this pen when it was released 😭😭 I would love to get one one day, but I doubt I'd be willing to pay the premium for it
This is my situation exactly. It’s basically my ideal 3776 but it’s so expensive on the rare occasions that it pops up secondhand that even if I could afford it, I’d have a hard time justifying it to myself.
My vey first fountain pen was a vista, gifted on my first communion. I used it all the time, but the barrel eventually cracked probably from overtightening. I replaced it with a red safari which I still use and love.
that’s a good list: I love my Pilot c823 and my Platinum 3776 in Chartres blue but you missed the Pilot prera demonstrator, mine’s got the blue end caps and is perfect imho!:); thanks for this
The TWSBI Vac is a really solid pen. It writes well, never dries out, and holds an absolute ton of ink. You can also get the travel inkwell that is made to fit the pen perfectly.
I really don’t consider colored, translucent bodied pens to be ‘clear’ demonstrator. My favorite true clear demonstrator pens that I own are: Sailor King of Pen Taccia Spectrum Stipula Etruria Rainbow (clear) Pelikan M205 Sheaffer PFM (rare, very hard to find clear version of this iconic pen) Sailor 1911L Platinum 3776 Oshino I’ll also stop at seven.
@@monkpato ..Darn, it is so rare. I still can’t believe I luckily found and own one. I have four other PFMs. There is also another demo Sheaffer snorkel filler model I’ve seen but it was sadly already sold out. Or else, I’d have bought that, too.
To me, if I can't really find out what is the ink color in the pen as well, it's not a true demonstrator. I have a translucent pink Hero pen that is fully transparent close to the nib so that counts in my book
The TWSBI Eco was my third fountain pen, but actually my second demonstrator. It's... Fine? It can be a little finicky on certain papers like Rhodia/Clairefontaine. Could be I need to adjust or replace the nib. I'm not that worried about it though, because that pen is really more about playing around with colorful inks since it's so easy to empty and refill. I also find the grip section just a hair too narrow for my taste. My favorite demonstrator and comfiest daily writer to this point is the Moonman/Majohn C1. I basically just skipped the converter and eyedroppered it right off the bat because it looks so strikingly good with a barrel full of ink. And it holds an absolutely massive volume, so one fill will last me potentially months with the fine nib I have on it.
I really only like demonstrators if they show a cool filling system, like a vacuum filler or sometimes even a piston. The only C/C pens I like are the Jinhao 9019s because they have that huge converter, otherwise I don't like the look of C/C demonstrators at all.
Wow‼️🫵🏾🤦🏾🫵🏾😂 When you coughed and said Lamy 2000, I thought the same exact thing. Hey... Who knows... 🤔💭 ☝🏽😯 ☝🏽😃 You may have given them a BR💡TE IDEA‼️😃👍🏾
I always wanted clear pen to put red ink into it, so it looks like a test tube or syringe filled with blood. Unfortunately, my Pelikan M205 Demonstrator served the purpose not so long, after putting Monteverde Wisdom in it, the pen stained badly, and ink reservoir is not clear anymore. One should carefully select what ink to put into clear pen
My only demonstrator is a Sailor Pro Gear that I chose because it was the cheapest color. Since then I have sprung for some beautiful colored Sailors, so now I hate my demonstrator.
The Jinhao 9019 transparent is an absolute monster of a pen and completely clear. Also, don't forget that the 823 comes in a transparent version too...
The tragedy of the platinum 3776 for me is that the colors I’d like (for myself, they’re all gorgeous) don’t come in extra fine or ultra extra fine. I’ve never tried UEF but anything thicker than an EF and I probably wouldn’t want an expensive pen with that nib
They can, yes, as any eyedropper pen can (especially as the ink level gets really low). The more full you keep the pen, the less air is in the body, and the less it should burp. That is an inherent risk when eyedropper filling any pen though! -Brian Goulet
My favorite is the TWISBI 580 Rose Gold. It regularly makes other "best of" lists, so not surprising. I bought the completely translucent model of the Sailor 1911s when I was newer to fountain pens. It's my least favorite and honestly if I wasn't so green to fountain pens at the time, I probably would have returned it. 1. The 'butt' of the pen is seemingly attached with glue. I know this because the end of my pen has a bunch of glue globs on the inside that are highly visible and irritating. 2. Clear pens that are converter pens aren't my jam. Go with a piston or vacuum filler. 3. This model was the only one that had a broad nib. I thought it would be a good match for shimmer inks with a larger ink flow, but in reality Sailor broad is like a medium on other models so I haven't found that it's a great pen for more 'exotic' inks.
I love that TWSBI offers stub nib pens (no after-market swapping needed), but am I the only one who just can’t get behind the awful creaky plastic of the ECO? It feels like it will crack so easily. Give me a TWSBI Mini AL any day! Well worth the upgrade. ❤
Guess I'm going to have to break down and get a Preppy! Know where I might buy one for a good price? 😉Oh, wait. That's right. You handle them, don't you? As it happens you also handle Taccia, although it appears you now carry only their top-of-the line products. That's a shame because late last year I bought a Taccia Spotlight Clear Demonstrator with a music nib made for Taccia by Sailor from you. I was reluctant to pull the trigger on it, even at your highly discounted price at the time of $72 because I wasn't a fan of clear demonstrators. The ones with which was then familiar were made with plastic that just didn't look very good. The Taccia changed my mind. Its plastic is clear and solid as crystal and the nib is fantastic--every bit the equal of TWSBI. The build quality is exceptional for a pen at that price. In short, I'm delighted with it and wish you still offered it so others could discover it.
I have the TWSBI 580 ALR which I really like. I also bought the Asvine V126 on the recommendation of Stephen_Inks, who reviewed it. For a $20-30 it's a decent pen. Writes well. I have the crystal clear.
2 Platinums - one inaccessible - and no Ahab?? I think the amusement of watching ink go up the breather tube into the piston is the purpose of a demonstrator.
Props to Brian for filming trying to barrel-fill a Vista knowing full well what was about to happen. That's commitment.
It IS kinda absurd that Lamy still has an ink window in that Vista. Yeah, I know, injection molds are expensive, but still.
There is an injection mold for a Vista/Safari barrel without ink window for the rollerball@@Dosbomber
@@Christian-t9o Well, there ya go. Easy fix to eyedropper a Vista. Lamy should sell them this way.
@@Dosbomberand they do make Vista rollerballs so it’s not like they don’t make clear non ink window ones
It's not just the ink window, if it's like any other safari the bottom also has small holes in it and I'm assuming that is for choking hazard purposes, if it's their entry pen they might have to consider younger people using it. Yes! Custom 823 definitely belongs on this list.
I'd even go so far as to say # 1 spot. I love mine!!!
The Asia-market clear Custom 823 is absolutely stunning. To me it's the emperor of clear-demonstrator fountain pens lol.
Brian, love the way you create content in a lot of imaginative ways. Keep up the good work. I'm also looking forward to your next Hall Of Fame pen.
Yessss a vid for me! Need another to go with clear Sailor pgs and Lamy Vista
I’m fortunate to have most of the pens you selected. I would add the Pelikan M805 demonstrator, my favorite demonstrator and maybe my favorite pen.
The Jinhao 9019 are really amazing pens for the price. And the clear demonstrator and the blue are also really good looking. Ok for large hand’s people Brian 😄😄

Pilot Custom Heritage 92 deserves some love as a definitive demonstrator
Seconded! It sure does because it’s very nice.
I have several preppy pens. They write really well and hold a ton of ink.
My first demonstrator was a Schaefer from the 1960s. I like my Pelikan for its large ink capacity.

Pilot 823, 1000% worth ordering the clear from Japan and waiting for it. Glad I went that route, it’s the star of my collection

Sailor pro gear pens are so beautiful. No nonsense design. I like it’s pestle colours too.
Hey Brian! Interesting vid, thanks! Conklin All American Demo looks so cool because of how fat that pen is and also the Pilot Prera.
Pilot prera or pilot 92 are goated. Pilot Kakuno clear was my first fountain pen and opened a love of pens for me
I have to say the twsbi diamond 580 iris would have to be my pick. It's just something about looking at that nib. That nib omg that nib!

Yes! I have 8 Kakunos. All inked with different colours. The only thing I have to remember is which inks are waterproof.
LAMY 2000 as a demonstrator, eh? 😮 OMG, the sight of all that ink flowing out on your desk was so disturbing! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
