Ik Dead Island had a different tone than what the trailer had, but i loved it and Riptide. It had times were the tone was dark but the fun zombie mayhem still has it as one of my favorite games. Dying Light nailed the "thriller" aspect for me where it's got a horror feel at night when you're low level, but going through the day and killing zombies made it so fun. The developer mods were so damn hilarious my dad and I loved the homerun bat just smack a zombie from 300ft away and it will fly past the other person and we’d both just lose it
Something to add is that while I was playing the Definitive edition of both main games, some collectibles and weapons were sunken into the ground where I couldn't get them. New playthroughs didn't fix the issues so I gave up on getting the platinum trophies on PS4. I also noticed that zombies would sometimes fall through the ground which was funny, but I did get ticked off when i lost a legendary machete that way.

I lost my moded pistol cause of it. I had the pistol out and it gave a flare gun and it dropped my pistol cause my inventory was full and it fell through the ground 😕
John Morgan was my first character I ever played as. I loved how fed up with everything he was and how he had a backstory via the audio logs you could find. the anger and sadness he expressed when his family was killed off screen made me sympathize more with him. I loved how his role in the story was from a soldier's point of view and how he struggled with the changes and how they had to treat survivors. also that sprint kick was insane fun
Dead Island Was Developed in 2005 and Was Set for a 2008 release and i saw the footage of the game and it was scary but beautiful and the 2005-2007 version of dead island had a different premise, You and Your Wife are Fighting to escape an island of the undead, but 3 years later in 2011, We Got The Final Version but It looked different than the 2008 version. I will give one massive positive about the Definitive Edition of the original Dead Island that you missed: One-hit kills of zombies with cars, like in Riptide. One of the few things I genuinely did not like in the original Dead Island was that killing zombies with cars could require running into them at least 6-8 times, made worse by the fact that they're really hard to hit if they're not standing. The one-hit kill made driving segments a LOT more fun in Riptide, and in turn, the original Dead Island when it was incorporated.
I remember when the trailer for Dead Island 2 came out and when the game never did people told me to give up. Well it's here now and it's just as beautiful as I hoped!
This was a total blast to edit! Thank you so much ColossalKiwi for this opportunity, I’m excited for more and I can’t wait until they finally reveal DI2 🙌❤️
The music you had playing in the background really brought back some nostalgia in my memories especially The Price is Right, that had me smiling ear to ear. 😊
Dead island will always have a special place in my heart. The early game grind to get stronger, the new game + and trying out co-op for the first time where I was gifted The Bat. Yes, that bat, the one with crazy knockback. That Bat was the source of hours upon hours of entertainment, along with all the other modded weapons that were duplicated back and forth amongst my friends and ransoms. Riptide was the same way, fun and exciting early game, with more and more modded weapons to spice up the repeated playthroughs, which there were many. I'm sad that the definitive edition took away Johns knockback when he would super kick and uppercut the zombies. The definitive lacked the same character as the original. Dead island and riptide will always be a core memory
Dead Island will always be one of those oddities that Dying Light brought me to by association, I sunk so much time into DI1 & Riptide just to explore & discover it's weird little areas (along with rare items + bugs/glitches) It's magic even as a single-player only. The game needed a little more love & time to be something that could have the potential to be mainstream, but would we have it any other way?
12:05- I just realized the lady with the crossbow is replaced and reused as a Screamer in Dead Island 2. And for Max, I'm guessing Rick is his redesign.
I still have a screen shot of where you would be on Playstation Home and part of the Dead Island game you could pose like you were running from zombies etc. I cherish that pic to this day lol
Ok anyone else think that the other voice actor (during the original Dead Island 2 trailer) sounds a lot like Aaron Paul "Come on dude, time to split" sounds so much like him.
I remember as a kid I asked my parents for this game when it first came out it was like 50$ I waited 2 years for it to come back on sale I’ll never forget the pure excitement and enjoyment this game brought me #ReviveDeadIsland
I really, really loved Dead Island Riptide's trailer. It made me to this day feel awful for those two un-named characters. I mean... We take our lives for granted. How does anyone come to terms with dying? They were calm and readily accepted their fates. As for Dead Island's trailer, it hurt my soul watching a family get torn apart. We, today, cannot comprehend our own son or daughter biting and ripping flesh out of our neck or our spouses' neck. Those trailers really make me feel things.
Something so small that made me not want to finish Riptide was the mini map not including the dotted line that shows you where to go, it was so frustrating to have to constantly open my entire map to make sure I was going the right route, and then it would randomly show up for like half a second then disappear, it's such a minor thing that just infuriated me lol
Damn, I remember reading the Dead Island novel on my Kindle back in middle school. The game getting a book always felt super out of left field, but overall I liked the book. I really enjoyed how it expanded on the characters and fleshed them out a bit more with their interactions with each other, but man it was weird what the author did to Sinamoi

The original holds a special place in my heart. I cared not for the game, but the memories. Some of the dearest moments in my gaming career have happened on that game. My heart goes out to all the gamer bros and sisters I played with, moved on but never forgotten. ❤️
You forgot to mention the human weakpoint removal where in the original release you could kick a zombie in the nuts and it would count as a critical hit every time.
I played epidemic for about three months and found it to be extremely fun, but i was so addicted to league of legends at the time I didn't have the time to really invest into it.. when i heard it shut down i was sad cause i had been burned out on league by then, and really coulda used epidemic to fill my moba void. Also that end edit, was awesome.
for me the part I didn't like in the definitive edition was the physics changes for the impact weapons and the left hand of glova, so they just knock them down instead of going flying.
Tbh one thing that could make the original more replayable is if there was a mod that allowed you to play as ryder white in the main campaign with friends and allow him to get perks and level up now that is an idea for a mod(he has his own perks in the code and he is the only character with a perk that gives him more ammo(on top of his normal increase btw))
5:17 Hell yeah! Co-OP was, and still is my all time favorite game mode. And at the time I had my 3 best friends that I played every game with. We would purposely search for games that had 4 player coop mode. Then we would buy the game for each other usually. When we saw Dead Island had a 4 person coop for the FULL game, we all preordered the game and played for DAYS when it came out. One day while I went to drop my melee weapon, I accidentally was holding down my melee throw button too. So once I dropped my weapon, I ALSO threw the SAME weapon!!! Which meant I accidentally stumbled on to a method of duplicating melee weapons. I never told my friends about it. I always just gave them a lot of free stuff and made the game very enjoyable for everyone. Eventually the bug I found was patched. But by then, I had super guns with super ammo, with magazine clips that held 99999999999999 rounds of ammo, lol.
As someone who loved DI and all of its flaws back in the day; I recently bought the Definitive Edition, played 48hours as Sam B, experienced Rider DLC for the first time, and just started Riptide, this game is still something janky but special. I love what it tried to do and built from it to make Dying Light/The Following
I was so utterly disappointed to find out that _Dying Light_ doesn't have the Analog Combat option; it was the one big thing that I missed while I was playing it. The ability to direct with your swings was one of the best mechanics from _Dead Island_ ; when you got used to how it worked, you could be so economical with your swings.

I personally disagree about the remaster being pointless. The original did age alright, but the new textures and lighting really give the game a more detailed atmosphere, especially in Riptide.
@@codymiller2844 I totally get that, and find it to be a bad move from the remaster team. I guess it didn't bother me too much personally, since most of the time, I'm looking at/focusing on the levels, and not so much the weapons in my hands and such.
From what I heard originally dead island in 2008 was not a story of immune survivors but a story of a man looking for his wife after a plane crashed in the island with zombies.
I absolutely loved Epidemic, I think I mained Bryce but it was so long ago I can't remember I also played the PlayStation Home event and it was surprisingly fun, it was pretty basic with very awkward controls but still fun, I even went all the way and unlocked the exploding meat blueprint
Happy to have ran into this video! I had NO IDEA there were so many DI games, lol. I absolutely tore up the first game and even played Riptide a few times. A few years ago I got my step kids to join me on a replay, but sadly we couldn't get the multiplayer connection to work to play Riptide together. Sucks, because I really loved how scary that one scene was inside the old missle silo (iirc) and was looking forward to scaring them haha. Thanks again, I'll have my fingers crossed for DI2!
i still remember in the beginning of the first dead island, when you go past the guy who had to beat his whole family to death to survive, and depending of what you do he either kills himself, let’s himself die, or stays strong, it kinda scarred me, it was truly sad
I'm pretty sure we only paid $50 for Riptide on release. My wife had it pre-ordered. We got the steel case version and the receipt is still in the case and I just looked at it, LOL! The steel case was a limited edition which is why we paid the extra $10. Original price was $40.
One small thing i also found goofy about Dead Island Defect Edition, was the fact, that Sam B had he's coat letters spell'd like B mam B instead of Sam B
i think Dead island 2 gonna be ever released because of deep silver , it's the reason why techland left and done what they wanted to do with dying light
Dead Island Epidemic was so good! The PvE was immense fun, the PvEvP was fun as well and a nice take on your typical MOBA and im still salty and sad they removed it from stores... like i paid 5€ to get it, not that much, but still feels like i got robbed. Why not allow offline play...
can't wait for deep silver to reveal dead island 2 this summer. Edit: game awards i guess :( i just hope it isn't going to be woke, the yager build was pretty fun to play around with and i really enjoyed its gameplay especially the great diverse soundtrack that it had. it was pretty unique and the goofy and almost cringy tone of the game was just fun. it all felt really nostalgic and kind of sad that i could've had some of the best childhood memories from this game back in 2016 i really believe that deep silver cares at least a little bit about this franchise and its success after all they could've just released it back in 2016 to get the cash from all the hype right?. and that all the developer changes had their meaning, from all the job postings on dambusters twitter it looks like the game will have some pretty advanced systems that should make the game stand out from dying light 2. the story also sounds pretty interesting and its cool to see them reuse elements from the 2015 build into the final game. im both excited and worried that the reveal at gamescom or game awards will be either the game that we've all been waiting for or the biggest dissapointment next to duke nukem foreversummer ga
Fun fact, I originally thought dead island was just a spin-off genre from dying light. But after the first year I played it I figured out dying light came after
I will forever be a Techland fan. I will admit though Dead Island, Dead Island Riptide, Dying Light 1 and Dying Light 2 trailers never look like the actual game. It's surprising to know they have been trying to do factions since Dead Island. They finally got to make it happen in DL2.

The main game, riptide, and that 2D side scroller.
Arguably the 3 best lol
The original holds a special place in my heart. I cared not for the game, but the memories. Some of the dearest moments in my gaming career have happened on that game.
My heart goes out to all the gamer bros and sisters I played with, moved on but never forgotten. ❤️
The trailer has more story than most AAA games now a days
You forgot to mention the human weakpoint removal where in the original release you could kick a zombie in the nuts and it would count as a critical hit every time.
I played epidemic for about three months and found it to be extremely fun, but i was so addicted to league of legends at the time I didn't have the time to really invest into it.. when i heard it shut down i was sad cause i had been burned out on league by then, and really coulda used epidemic to fill my moba void. Also that end edit, was awesome.
I think it’s funny that this video came out a few months before FINALLY Dead Island 2 comes out
The jason easter egg in dead island one truly made it one of my favorite games
Loved that little trailer edit at the end was awesome
Thanks so much! It just felt like the right way to end the video.
for me the part I didn't like in the definitive edition was the physics changes for the impact weapons and the left hand of glova, so they just knock them down instead of going flying.
Yeah the physics are a big letdown
@@ColossalKiwi but they do make for more combos if you're looking for it
Goood stoooop with that one sad song music it actually makes me cryy 😢
There can't be ten dead island games can there?
I thought u were only talking about the dead island and not dying light so I guessed 7 Installments I also didn't think about the definitive edition
Still a good game
Legend has it, that some guys put almost 2000 hours into epidemic.. must have been one hell of a fever dream ..
In Dead Island 1 Definitive Edition, In The Outside Parking Lot of The Hotel, There is A Dying Light Secret That Is The Bus That Says "Western Harran"!
Dead Island Takes Place In 2006 and Dying Light Is Set In 2014! Dead Island 2 Likely is Set in 2007!
Very true! The number plates are changed too.
@@ColossalKiwi Dead Island And Dead Island 2 Are Set From 2006-2007 During Real World Events In The 2000s Expect It Is Interpreted by a Zombie Outbreak!
He showed the axis production page and holy shit the old man looking at the sharpend metal pin is from love death and robots on netflix
I personally disagree about the remaster being pointless.
The original did age alright, but the new textures and lighting really give the game a more detailed atmosphere, especially in Riptide.
It would have been nice as a port to ps4 but the way they screwed up the weapon mods and the soulless menu's for quests turned a lot of people off
@@codymiller2844 I totally get that, and find it to be a bad move from the remaster team.
I guess it didn't bother me too much personally, since most of the time, I'm looking at/focusing on the levels, and not so much the weapons in my hands and such.
What a resilient series.
Purna was done dirty with cameos compared to the other survivors lol
From what I heard originally dead island in 2008 was not a story of immune survivors but a story of a man looking for his wife after a plane crashed in the island with zombies.
To this day i did not know about any other game in the Dead Island Franchise except the original, so this video was very interesting to me!
To thia day i do wonder what the yaeger dead island 2 wouldve been like if it released
I absolutely loved Epidemic, I think I mained Bryce but it was so long ago I can't remember
I also played the PlayStation Home event and it was surprisingly fun, it was pretty basic with very awkward controls but still fun, I even went all the way and unlocked the exploding meat blueprint
Ayyy nice. Ah, the memories.
I really enjoyed the first Dead Island, but a glitch lead to me losing a weapon I spent a lot of time upgrading, I quit after that
i still remember in the beginning of the first dead island, when you go past the guy who had to beat his whole family to death to survive, and depending of what you do he either kills himself, let’s himself die, or stays strong, it kinda scarred me, it was truly sad
I'm pretty sure we only paid $50 for Riptide on release. My wife had it pre-ordered. We got the steel case version and the receipt is still in the case and I just looked at it, LOL! The steel case was a limited edition which is why we paid the extra $10. Original price was $40.
We need more "good" zombie and infected games. I can not get enough of them.
One small thing i also found goofy about Dead Island Defect Edition, was the fact, that Sam B had he's coat letters spell'd like B mam B instead of Sam B
DUDE! DEAD ISLAND 2 IS BACK BABY! YOU GOTTA UPDATE THIS WITH THE REINTRODUCTION OF IT- *im so pumped for it*
Dead island always and still does scare the crap out of me. The music, setting and screams of the dead combined are terrifying.
just because it's by techland doesn't mean dying light is a dead island game, while similar, they just aren't the same
i think Dead island 2 gonna be ever released because of deep silver , it's the reason why techland left and done what they wanted to do with dying light
I’m watching this like weeks after the new dead island 2 trailer was teased and I’m so stoked
I had a lot of fun playing the first dead island with my little brother i was 17 and he was 12. Now im 24 and im playing the second game now ❤
Dead Island Epidemic was so good!
The PvE was immense fun, the PvEvP was fun as well and a nice take on your typical MOBA and im still salty and sad they removed it from stores... like i paid 5€ to get it, not that much, but still feels like i got robbed. Why not allow offline play...
Rip Tide was decent
can't wait for deep silver to reveal dead island 2 this summer.
Edit: game awards i guess :(
i just hope it isn't going to be woke, the yager build was pretty fun to play around with and i really enjoyed its gameplay especially the great diverse soundtrack that it had. it was pretty unique and the goofy and almost cringy tone of the game was just fun. it all felt really nostalgic and kind of sad that i could've had some of the best childhood memories from this game back in 2016
i really believe that deep silver cares at least a little bit about this franchise and its success after all they could've just released it back in 2016 to get the cash from all the hype right?. and that all the developer changes had their meaning, from all the job postings on dambusters twitter it looks like the game will have some pretty advanced systems that should make the game stand out from dying light 2. the story also sounds pretty interesting and its cool to see them reuse elements from the 2015 build into the final game. im both excited and worried that the reveal at gamescom or game awards will be either the game that we've all been waiting for or the biggest dissapointment next to duke nukem foreversummer ga
Still hated that I had to rebuy dead island 1 because they discontinued it on Steam and replaced it with the definitive edition.
Fun fact, I originally thought dead island was just a spin-off genre from dying light. But after the first year I played it I figured out dying light came after
That trailer is always infamous. But to me the closest the game got to emulating that tone was with the church in Moresby.
That was an emotional cutscene man.
I will forever be a Techland fan. I will admit though Dead Island, Dead Island Riptide, Dying Light 1 and Dying Light 2 trailers never look like the actual game.
It's surprising to know they have been trying to do factions since Dead Island. They finally got to make it happen in DL2.
