Pretty awesome Chris !! I bet your Papaw would have never thought , that the little boy he taught how to run all those machines , would one day be a "Celeb" for Volvo Machines !! I'm sure he's proud of ya !! Thanks for taking us along with ya, and showing behind the scenes of how things are set up for the show !! Great as always Man !! And, On too the Next.......
In Norway they have used remote controlled machines for cleaning up an old testingfield for ammo. There were about 6 machines on the site, and all the drivers were inside a building about about 1 kilometer away (if I remember correctly). They were sitting in copies of the cockpits looking at big screens, all in the same room, drinking coffee, talking sh*t and having a really good time while working on the site.

As I am a swede its great to hear that you actually recognize that some of the equipment is from Sweden, thanks a million.
Easily one of the most interesting episodes Chris has posted. It seems there's a lot of logistics and planing that goes into events like this. Including serious lead time getting equipment and other items staged well ahead of time. Thanks for the tag along Chris.
You, Dirt Perfect and Deisel Creek have a million subs between you, so I'm guessing you'll be getting more than just a card at Christmas from Volvo! Thanks for the entertainment guys, looks like you are as much star material as the equipment!
I was really impressed with the remote function box. As you noted, it would take some getting used to but it's definitely a useful tool for the right circumstances. Nice behind the scenes of all things Volvo from the show.
Chris, I really do appreciate you focusing on one booth at con Expo most channels give you just barely a glimpse of everything I very much appreciate you staying at one place, in this case Volvo and going through it piece by piece I really enjoyed it one of the things I learned it's where this stuff is made at that was eye-opening your whole podcast was very informative enjoyable thank you for doing podcast different from the rest I rate this 9] )-@#=]
Watching this excavator video is like watching a high-speed action movie. The way the machine moves and responds to the operator's commands is simply incredible
They sure have an enormous amount of equipment crammed in that expo. It would be wild if you or Mike got an electric to demo cause you know all your viewers would like to see that happen. Maybe Volvo will see this post and think the same thing. 👋
Great to see you again Chris! Had a decent cameo there at the beginning of the meet & greet 😂 thanks again for all the time and energy you put into this! Now we have our first Volvo excavator also; they are a great company to work with.
The fossil free steel comes from a Swedish prototype steel plant which uses hydrogen rather than coke. Presumably the carbon in the steel comes from another source - haven't looked too deeply into it since I read the original press release last year. ETA Looking forward to seeing you guys try out the 230 at the customer centre.
Do you know anything about steel making ? The carbon is not added, but removed. Ore is turned into high-carbon pig iron which is then refined to mild steel and other alloys.
Ok fun times over, time for you two to get back behind the sticks😁. All kidding aside, its awesome that you and D.P. to take time from working to go and have fun and do the meet and greets. Just wish I could have made it to Vegas.
For everyone asking about the battery: EC230 E is equipped with four 66-kilowatt lithium-ion battery packs that enable the operator to work four to five hours in general purpose applications. With a high-power fast charge on a lunch hour, the machine should last through a full eight-hour shift.
The dump truck in the beginning looks like Uncle John's. Thinking maybe Chris will buy it to have one road worthy besides the off road dump. About to watch it now.
I've been thinking about the electric excavator for a while. I still think it's an interesting idea and has a fair bit of potential to be had. Only limiter being run time and charge time plus the accessories needed. But at the same time, maybe make it more of a machine that has a fixed place, such as in a transfer station to feed a grinder/shear for garbage reduction. A longer stick and boom for a scrap metal yard to feed a hammer mill or load/unload trucks and rail cars. At the intake for a lumber mill to load bark/wood chips. Keep the batteries or cut down on the number of cells while having it attached to an umbilical power supply. If it needs to be moved, disconnect the umbilical use the batteries to move to a new location, plug back in. I can also see it being handy just with batteries for very niche needs that don't require extended usage. Especially when there is concern about noise and exhaust in a confined or enclosed space.
You just made me super tired remembering the setup of our John Deere shows. The hauling, cleaning, shining the tires, waxing but we had a week to get ready but I did enjoy the days the show ran. This was in the time John Deere was buying all their distributors and keeping all the info correct for the customer. Your doing a super job especially with the remote machines.
thats awesome. i still think it would be fun for a big collab with all the volvo operators/creators from around the world working on some big project together.
Awesome video Chris. So much preparation goes into the show. I really like to see the new technology for electric & hydrogen fuel cell machines. Here in Australia our rail network is not so good, so we rely a lot on road transport. I guess the future 18 wheelers will be a little similar to the off road hydrogen fuel cell electric truck you showed. Take care & cheers 😊
Awesome video Chris, im just gonna be honest, not a fan of the electric machines, quiet and all but then ya gotta stop to charge, gotta hall the charger so that's another expense if you can't haul it yourself, but they are cool though, I'd be curious to see what the breakout force is, well Chris it's a good thing you just got your new one an you have the old one, thanks for sharing an I look forward to seeing the next video as always, God bless 💪🇺🇲🤙✊👌 Bucket list of mine is to go-to Conexpo, wanna meet ya at the show, maybe next show I can make it!

Danny Freeman is one big man Chris, 6’7” ? Thank you Chris for a great video . All the gang was there Clint, Mike and Matt . I follow follow them all.🥰
That was really interesting, particularly the EV. It may be hard for some of us to see the advantage of the battery, but for plant, long term construction, and quarry work particularly, I can see where electric could have a big edge.
I can see some applications where electric might make sense; for example city emergency infrastructure excavation, where a machine may dig an hour or so, then wait until the crew repairs the sewer, water main, whatever problem, then backfills and done. For large project, continuous digging, no way.
I always wondered why more mine sites have not gone all eletric, as the machinery is basically in a confined space on known routes all day, doing the same thing over and over.
I probably fits in more applications than some would think. Loading dump trucks there's a bit of idle time waiting for the trucks to back in or leave, If the bucket ain't moving, the pump stops... utility/municipal where they do smaller projects not miles of trenching. Metro locations where noise overnight gets angry phone calls and letters etc to the mayor and city council or whoever.
I've been waiting for this video wanted to make it this year but health problems didn't allow me thank you for such a indep Part of the show so we could see it all your a quite a celebrities thank you very much love you videos
Lots of questions…. Where do you charge it, under heavy load how long do batteries last, what do replacement batteries cost? Then I guess from a safety perspective any issues with batteries shorting out?
Wish they would of had us come in early in the morning and showed all of us what Volvo had to offer and some information on the machines so we all could of filmed that and each other, would of been a good time and informative
Hold on there Chris, you have AC on yours as well, just open the windows and doors. It's called rush-in-air. I had to pull your chain just a little bit. You did better than I was expecting stacking those 3 blocks.
Dang that electric equipment is kind of amazing. Question I'd have is what's the full-use service charge? IOW, how long can you use it non-stop before it's time to plug in 🙂

The remote has all kinds of options. Say building a block wall you could stand next to the wall and make sure the block is level and inline. Then reach over get another block and keep going. I thought it was ridiculous at first but now no. you could build a block retaining wall by yourself if you had to.
The remote control rig seems like it would be ripe for some sort of Augmented Reality/telepresence thing with a camera in the cab/on the boom or something so you could see a bit better, I imagine it would be helpful for people who are just used to operating the excavator from the cab.
Thanks for taking us along. This is something I would probably never attend but would love looking at all the large construction equipment. Question on the electric excavators - How long would the batteries last? At least, all day? Then, if you're working at a site, how would you "plug" it in?
I watched another video where they talked about this. With an 80% (recommended) charge the machine will do 8 hours CONTINUOUS work. As it is electric the motor does not use any power if, for instance, you are sat waiting for the next dump truck to arrive or simply get off the machine for coffee or to do some other work!
@@eileenmori8560 Lars, the guy who showed them the machine said they have a big power pack that can be carried on a trailer. Don't recall whether it can fully charge it up to the 80% they recommend, or not but I suppose it would be carried on a truck or trailer as Chris does with his diesel tank and filler now. Probably more practical for a fixed plant operator than for what @LetsDig18 and @Dirt Perfect usually work on. Interesting to find out how well it works when one of them gets, as I anticipate, one on demo loan later this year 😏

As a Brit with a lot of Volvo experience and trips to Goteborg, I love Sweden and its wonderful people. Fantastic country 👍

What a fabulous tour guide you are Chris. Enjoyed your demonstration of the electric machines. Smiling and having a great time. Thank you so much.
Thanks Chris, for being such a great Ambassador for the Great Volvo Co. Well done and what fantastic new machines they have. Greetings from Australia

Fantastic coverage of the Volvo 'new' innovations. How well they work on the job will be the proving ground. Great turnout for the meet-and-greet.
