- Why did I choose to play on hard mode? I love this DLC so MUCH though. Worth every death at the end there. I love how this excerpt speaks to her backstory and also her future. Cannot wait for Part II.

First off thank you for sharing your insights on this game, it's obvious it means a lot to you. I always took the name Left Behind as how Ellie feels as she said in the main game everybody she has ever loved has died or left her and she is left behind to deal with this world alone which we know her greatest fear is ending up alone. She loses her mother, Riley, Tess, and when Joel becomes seriously injured she does everything in her power to make sure she isn't Left Behind again. That's what makes TLOU series so great is that it's so thought provoking and everyone will see this story differently.
I LOVE THIS. I still never had a thought that made sense about the title so thank you for that!

Ahh another amazing episode!! It’s always wild to remember Ellie was still fresh from losing Riley at the beginning of Part I; and that she still feels the weight of that loss all the way to the end of the game (and beyond). This DLC adds another layer of understanding to Ellie’s history, her feelings towards her immunity, and her relationship with Joel while touching on some of the major threads we see throughout all of the games: her survivor’s guilt, her fear of ending up alone, and her inability to let go. Thank you so much for sharing your play through and your thoughts! :)

6:08 I'm not medically educated. Firstly, they should have hunkered down and stopped the bleeding. A normal person would bleed to death fairly quickly from such a wound. Bleeding to death can go as quick as a few minutes. Secondly, its not that clean. Neither the wound or the dressing, so if he don't get an infection he is really lucky. But I'd give him a 20% chance of survival in the real world.

13:26 First game takes place 2033, Sarah is killed September 27th 2013. So about 20 years. Btw, Ellie is born 2019.

IMO, Joel realistically would not have survived the spike that went through his body due to excessive bleeding. The spike went through the center of his abdomen (I reviewed the video of the injury) and it it either did not penetrate a vital organ (eg aorta, liver, spleen , kidney) or significantly damage a vital organ (he would died immediately if it it hit his aorta). However, it likely did penetrate/damage his bowel resulting in bleeding; certainly he would also have an infection from his bowel contents (which remarkably healed with 1-2 injections of penicillin); one would need to be treated with antibiotics for days to stop any ongoing infection. Without surgery to close up the internal bleeding site, he would have continued to bleed and die. Without continuous antibiotic treatment he wodl have died from peritonitis and sepsis (blood borne infection). Hope this helps.

If it makes you feel any better, beating Riley at the water gun fight was one of the most annoying trophies for me in the DLC 😅

Damn it breaks my heart to see her love people and losing them every time. She loves Riley, Riley dies. She loves Joel, Joel dies. She loves Dina, Dina leaves. I'm devastated that she is literally living her worst fear: "ending up alone". I truly hope the third one will go a bit easier on her.
It also breaks my heart that Ellie probably had to kill Riley. She obviously turned quickly and Ellie probably had to shoot her to save herself. Then she probably waited where her corpse was for a while before realizing she wouldn't turn. She must have felt so alone, so scared, so hungry. It's really horrible to think about.
I think "Left Behind" may refer to Ellie being literally left behind by every single person she's ever loved. It could also be Riley being left behind because she dies. Or even both. That's how I understood it anyway.
I also really love the AI in the game as well, the documentary talks about it a bit and it was fascinating.
I would be too scared to pick option 1. I think a part of me would always hope I'd be immune or that it wouldn't be that bad. But at the same time I feel like it's selfish too because you know you're gonna be a danger to other people, for humanity, once you turn.
I don't know if it's an unpopular opinion but I would have really liked to see more of Ellie's past rather than her flash backs with Joel.

Hey Anna! Thanks for this whole playthrough. This game was yet again an emotional rollercoaster. It's been really fascinating listening to your thoughts and theories about everything related to the Last of Us universe. Even though sometimes I'm having trouble understanding you because english isn't my first language and you use big words sometimes😂👀. What I'm trying to say is looking forward to Part II! That's a double rollercoaster incoming! Also I gotta mention I platinumed the PS5 version😎
If you think back to the end of the first game where Ellie is talking to Joel about Riley and how she’s “still waiting for her turn.” I always took the title of the DLC as her feeling as if she was “left behind”, playing into her sense of survivor’s guilt so to speak.
Also. I gotta say this has been such a brilliant playthrough to watch. Probably my favorite if I’m being honest. Your thoughts and analysis as you were playing was so cool and your mindset was very similar to mine and I love that. You mentioned it in the video but I always thought that a cure in this current world wouldn’t work. 20 years of destruction and death. Who’s to say the cure would’ve saved it? I always felt like Joel thought ‘this is the world now’ and he didn’t want Ellie to sacrifice herself for a world that was dead and wouldn’t remember her sacrifice. I don’t condone what he did, but I understand why he did it. I know Ellie wanted her life to matter, she didn’t feel like it did, but it did. Joel had his own way of showing that and I’m glad in the end she realizes that.

I think the "Left Behind" points to the fact that Ellie is "left behind" in this world by Riley dying, where initially they were supposed to "lose their minds together" in the end. This maybe also links back to the main title of the game, where Ellie is now The Last (Ellie) of Us (Ellie & Riley) or something.
Hey Anna, as always, I loved the play thru!
I am definitely of the Riley type, option one was not an option. She wanted to be there with Ellie to live in that moment. She was begging Ellie to ask her to stay without illusion of for how long or what was next for that matter. Ellie asking Riley not to go and the kiss showed that they were of the same mind and no one to blame.
Ellie has been left behind by everyone she has ever been close to. Perhaps this was a look back to shed light on this fact and why she is so fierce for Joel, or maybe a glimpse at a reconcile with Dina in 3🤷🏾♀️.

Loved this playthrough of one of my and many people's favourite games.
Henry killing his brother and then himself was the first time a game made me cry, and it changed my perception of what games could do as an entertainment medium.
I never finished TLOU2, not because I disliked it, but because I played during lockdown (3 years ago) and I found the subject matter was too heavy back then and I just never went back to it.
I think I'm a couple of hours into Abbey's story and I'm going to have to try to play again and finish it so I can watch the next playthrough spoiler free!

I am playing the regular game on Hard + stuff is really hard to get. make shivs molotov and look around really good.
You are playing on Hard less to collect i figure about 50 to 80 % less so stealth when you can silent kills are good too.
