What's worth noticing is that Marlene KNOWS that even disarmed, outnumbered like 30:1 Joel *can* destroy her whole crew. Yet she still gives him a choice to leave without a fight because she believes in this cure so much. She was never a bad person, just someone very dedicated to their cause - just like Joel is to protecting Ellie. I just love how this game shows us through and through that there aren't good or bad guys (well, aside from cannibals or hunters) - just people trying to survive and/or protect what they value the most.
Marlene definitely chose the worst option though. Ellie 100% would have been okay with the possibility of dying if it meant saving the world and would have convinced Joel that it’s okay. Giving them closure. By hiding it from Ellie and forcing Joel out, she literally did the worst possible scenario

Joel is a menace. For all that his motives are understandable. He broke Ellie's trust, murdered countless people, and decided his own wants meant more than the rest of humanity. Joel's end in part 2 is only his actions catching up to him.
Watching this gameplay is like literally watching a movie or how actually Joel had to act when he retrieved Ellie. He had to do it everything just perfect and timing to get through all by himself
I really enjoy how they played the cutscene, showing all the gritty and emotional aspects of this entire part of the game, and then he plays accordingly to how I assume Joel felt, anger
I think a thing some people forget that adds to the tragedy of the ending is that Joel killed Marlene, the only person Ellie knows who had a connection with her mom, and the destruction of the group Riley was part of. She lost a lot more than just being used for a vaccine or being a martyr. Edit: I forgot to add that this is probably a huge part of why Ellie hated Joel after learning about it. She never even saw the Fireflies and now they're gone.

It’s a shit position to be in knowing that your one trusted guardian lied to you for years and never getting the chance to reconcile because his actions caught up with him. I remember this section. Somehow I fluked this stealth, avoiding the bloaters, had to kill maybe 2 or 3 infected. Had no idea how action packed this could get until I heard other people complaining about it. Nice vid :-)

I can't believe i never played these games before cause I thought i wouldn't like it but after buying the remake of the first one that just came out and beating it in 4 days I bought and beat the second one to and now both are my new favorite game ever on any system and the best story line ever as well and what they did on the second game where you get to play hoth sides was so dam cool and i really cared about the characters and i never do ingames and usually skip alot of cut scenes but i watched every second of this one. This game gets a 20 out of 10 from me 😜
I love how savage is Joel. Some people still consider him a good guy but I'm convinced that he's a bastard and reviewing this part conforts me in this idea. I'm not sure I'd have behaved in an other way if I were in this situation, but this doesn't mean that it's the good decision.
Started yesterday playing survivor on part 1 and I am quite good at it. I love how the game makes me think more. Who I shoot, what to craft, what upgrades should i prefer, do I really need to kill everyone? This is my journey to start playing games on hardest difficuilty. (I know survivor is not hardest, but I will get to that)
Skill is amazing, but this "I'm aiming here because I know that this enemy is gonna be in this exact pixel in exactly 2 seconds" takes away all realism... it would be a lot more impressive and 'cinematic' if it was staged more naturally, like a real Joel would act.
@paoul789 He's not doing a speedrun. With those amazing skills he could do a more realistic video, like how a kickass real Joel would really act, like in a movie. Right now it is too evident that he's anticipating where the enemies are *exactly* going to be in the next seconds. It looks more like how a person who could see the future would act...

Just beat the game! My god. This whole scene was insane. I killed the two bloaters with bombs and Molotovs, which I hadn’t done much before hand. And then it crashed into this scene and it never stopped after that. Ten out of ten.

One man tore through the Fireflies like a lightsaber through butter. Even if - and that's a VERY BIG IF - they could've made the cure they'd either missuse it or would lose to someone else.
They lied from the beggining and planned on killing ellie to make a cure that we didnt even knew would work. Which is what didn't sit well with joel. People like to say well the sacrifice of one would have saved everyone, but the fireflies literally manipulated a minor which they were going kill.

When Joel is trying to resuscitate Ellie and the Fireflies come pointing guns and interrupt his efforts to save her is so reminiscent of when Joel is carrying Sarah, and they get stopped by that soldier. Game version Joel is like a post-apocalyptic version of John Rambo, not just in his fighting skills but also his ability to think and act strategically, and his ability to craft things seemingly on the fly. So with that said, I do appreciate what the show did in tuning Joel down, as not only does it take into account his advancing age and lack of vitality as a result, but also shows very realistically that it doesn't take much to get seriously injured - like when instead of getting into a dramatic fist-fight, falling off a ledge and getting impaled on a piece of rebar in the game - in the show he has only a brief struggle, gets stabbed in the gut, which is a serious place to get hurt, and then ends up with an infection on top of it. I do appreciate the show's "realism" in that respect, that Joel doesn't come off as a guy who's had say special forces training, and who can just seemingly eat punches and whatnot all day long and come back just as brutal, like you would expect from a Harrison Ford or Liam Neeson flick, but rather is just basically an average guy who has gained experience, but is also getting old, definitely feels the blows when they come and doesnt just bounce back like it's nothing, and who is feeling the toll of the journey in itself. Honestly I wish more action movies and shows paid greater attention to that, that no matter how strong or well-trained the character is, there are still dangerous and disastrous consequences to violence, not just the human cost, but also the cost on the human body, that the human body can only take so much punishment before it gives out.
I love how savage this game is.

So with that said, I do appreciate what the show did in tuning Joel down, as not only does it take into account his advancing age and lack of vitality as a result, but also shows very realistically that it doesn't take much to get seriously injured - like when instead of getting into a dramatic fist-fight, falling off a ledge and getting impaled on a piece of rebar in the game - in the show he has only a brief struggle, gets stabbed in the gut, which is a serious place to get hurt, and then ends up with an infection on top of it.
I do appreciate the show's "realism" in that respect, that Joel doesn't come off as a guy who's had say special forces training, and who can just seemingly eat punches and whatnot all day long and come back just as brutal, like you would expect from a Harrison Ford or Liam Neeson flick, but rather is just basically an average guy who has gained experience, but is also getting old, definitely feels the blows when they come and doesnt just bounce back like it's nothing, and who is feeling the toll of the journey in itself.
Honestly I wish more action movies and shows paid greater attention to that, that no matter how strong or well-trained the character is, there are still dangerous and disastrous consequences to violence, not just the human cost, but also the cost on the human body, that the human body can only take so much punishment before it gives out.
