“People WILL Be Prosecuted” Over Post Office Scandal, Says Lord Arbuthnot | Julia Hartley-Brewer

  • Julia Hartley-Brewer and Tory peer and Post Office scandal campaigner, Lord James Arbuthnot, discuss the closing remarks of the Post Office inquiry.
Lord Arbuthnot, a key figure in exposing the scandal, expresses optimism about achieving justice, though he acknowledges significant delays, with prosecutions potentially not beginning until 2027.
The Post Office-Horizon scandal saw hundreds of sub-postmasters wrongfully convicted of fraud, theft and false accounting over more than a decade.
A lengthy public inquiry into the scandal has revealed the Horizon software was faulty and created false shortfalls in their accounts.

Compensation………this is not what should be first addressed. These people have first been robbed! They have been forced to pay stated sums that the post office say was missing. It’s not difficult to prove how much in each case………First PO must repay this stolen money….that can be done in weeks.
Then, the postmasters deserve compensation. In the final statement today PO barrister, on behalf of PO said they had learned lessons, and would act differently…….all the while other lawyers representing PO are arguing to down pay compensation claims, stalling and driving postmasters into settling for substantially less money, because they are just worn out
    The PO remains, imo, disingenuous.

I have used this analogy on other presentations. 10,000 new cars are made. 1,000 crash due to brake failure. Conclusion by manufacturer. Nothing wrong with the brakes because 9,000 have not crashed it has to be the drivers lying. The courts then find these 1000 drivers guilty of dangerous driving.

Some people have committed perjury, some perverted the course of justice, some have died, some became bankrupt, some have suicided, some carry on the fight for justice. There was no money missing, there were no thefts, it was a computer error. The software used by POL was Horizon. It was faulty. That's what's so awful. Subpostmasters were being made to pay back non-existent losses. Subpostmasters were being prosecuted by POL for non-existent thefts. That means that the excess money is with Post Office Ltd., but where abouts in their finances nobody knows, apparently. That's what the entire scandal is about. POL used private prosecutions to go after subpostmasters for non-existent thefts, testifying in court that Horizon was "robust", yet they'd known about bugs, errors and defects in Horizon for years and hid this from defence and courts.

The behind-the-scenes interfering of computers was not done maliciously, it was done usually overnight to sort problems seen by them or reported to them - problem was sub post masters STOPPED REPORTING losses as they seemed to be magically fixed by themselves overnight - so some bad balances (losses) were never attended to and the losses started escalating so the confused exasperated post masters went deeper and deeper into the mire. The actual many and varied system errors were fixed eventually.

@@martinclements8724 I will give it a go at explaining it to you but you might be too thick to understand -the techs were zero-ing some large INDIVIDUAL losses overnight often by simply resetting that account, but that or another error might appear again another day but the sub post office may have got fed up reporting it. and the many system errors WERE fixed eventually after years.

Poor guest. Can’t get much of a word in with JHB’s overlong rambling questions. She’s a terrible interviewer.

I have listened to all speakers present their summations to Sir Wyn.
My conclusion, briefly put, is that the two speakers who were spot on, as the Brits like to say, was Mr. Henry who perfectly described the atrocities that took place, and the speaker for the NFPS, Ms. Wals (??) who laid oud a very concise path forward. If there is a path forward.
All of the speakers for the Post Office and that lot had the underlying theme to their presentations summed up in one word.
    Whoops!
God in his infinite wisdom tells us exactly what was to come to pass in the last days:
Isaiah 24:16(c) woe unto me! the treacherous dealers have dealt treacherously; yea, the treacherous dealers have dealt very treacherously.

Then I'm afraid you don't fully understand. The NFSP are in survival mode . They only distanced themselves from POL when they knew the gravy train has ended .
How can an organisation representing franchise subpostmasters be 95% funded by post office limited.
Look at their agreement with post office . It basically says they can't say or do anything that says anything bad against post office limited. Funnily enough the funding was announced to be ending. Suddenly NFSP are all for the subpostmasters.
Nah. You've been sucked into their little escape plan
