Carol and Lucille have such a precious friendship. It seems as though they are kindred spirits. I had came across this article one day where Carol had said, "She would always send me flowers on my birthday," Burnett revealed."[Years later], she died on my birthday, April 26. That afternoon I got flowers from her. It said, 'Happy birthday, kid.' "💗
I had also heard that story, and mentioned it in other posts. Several years ago my mom and I traveled from upstate New York to visit Jamestown to attend the birthday festival weekend birthday party. So much to do, people and stars to meet, many many events to attend. We even stayed an extra day. It was well worth the expense and travel time. Even the weather cooperated for the days we were there. We had planned to make another visit, but my mom was ill and passed away. She was elderly, and the people in Jamestown were very helpful and caring to her. At the time Ric Wyman was the director and was very accommodating for us. We still keep in touch after so many years. Such a fond memory. Would love to return someday!!! I ❤ LUCY🙂 .
The costumes and sets in this show were unlike anything else before or since. Extraordinary attention to detail by exceptionally talented people. It never ceases to amaze and delight how beautiful everyone and everything looked.
To think these costumes were seen only once when aired and probably never again. Yes I know there were reruns, etc. But so much effort went into creating these incredible moments that were so brief!

It's actually NOT the entire episode. Programs of that era were always 50 minutes or so. I'm thinking a musical number was removed due to a music rights issue.
@@ChrisHansonCanada What about commercials? I was factoring in about 15 minutes of commercials that would've been on tv. But maybe they didn't have as many ads back then as they do now. I can't remember.
@@SophieMia806 Shows were 50 minutes without commericals. You can see some of the other full Burnett episodes on youtube are 50 to 51 minutes without commercials.
I loved watching Carol Burnett, I Love Lucy, and Lucille Ball when I was a kid. Mr, Mooney and Ricky Ricardo was such a stick in the mud to Lucy!!!! I sure wish I could go back to those days! Things seemed so much more simple back then. I'm sure it would not have seemed that way if I had been an adult back then. It sure seems so much more complicated and dire now though. Life just isn't worth living anymore.
I enjoy seeing those well choreographed song & dance numbers in the show. Bob Mackey also designed the best dresses & gowns for that era. It’s hard to believe how expensive everything is now. Great memories ❤️💕🙏🏻Thank you for allowing us to relive those moments.
I still sing this nite nite song to my grandkids,I'm so glad we had this time together, just to have a laugh or sing a song.I love me some Lucy an Carol burnettejune2021
It’s sad to think we will never have entertainment like this on television again. These songs will be forgotten. I’d like to know where it all went wrong.
Things just changed as they do periodically since time began. By the time this show was taped TV variety shows had looked and sounded pretty much the same for decades. Change was inevitable,.
I don't even watch current TV other than all those "Got Talent" shows on You Tube. I am a fan of 50s-60s-70s TV like Lucy, Dick Van Dyke, All In The Family, Maude, Bewitched, etc. Same thing with music, I like 60s-70s music and I have never been a big movie fan.

I’m watching this and laughing so hard!! I loved Carol as Miss Hannigan and this episode has the funniest drunkard scenes I’ve seen yet! Carol, there are literally no words that could describe my love and appreciation for you and your role in my childhood. You made my cranky mother (and us kids too) laugh and be a little nicer once a week. 😘
Really? Next to Lucy, Carol Burnett is one of the most beloved female entertainers in American TV. Being a very big Lucy fan, I have to admit I think Carol is more talented than Lucy because Lucy has admitted she is not a great singer or dancer, but Lucy is a phenomenal physical comedienne, on par with being an athlete, even when she was in her 60s.
If you watch a string of HERE'S LUCY episodes, it's funny how many times Lucy and others in the cast wore the color BLUE. You don't notice it after watching one or two episodes, but it becomes apparent if you watch a bunch of them at one time. I think BLUE is one of the colors that shows up beautifully on TV.
I don't think Carol knew how to read music but she learned the songs and sure knew how to sing, and even harmonize - THANK GOD because if she couldn't carry a tune, I really don't think the show could've kept going. Unless maybe she'd just never sung!
If u like classics indulge in the following shows... father knows best, The bachelor father, and hazel. Thise r some good ones that I can think of n the moment. Have a great new year
I have 8mm home movies of me and my sisters in our sleepers hanging our stockings on Christmas Eve, and the Carol Burnett show is playing on the t.v. My daughter in law calls me and my sisters "The Virgin Suicides" because of our old home movies 🤣
The some like it hot take-off was very funny. As Carol Brunette stated when Lucille ball would get together with her, they would do a routine then afterwords Lucille ball would state what she liked and what she did not like and you did not take it personal.
Nowadays what would a show like this be? For one thing, it would be about 34 minutes long with 26 minutes of commercials. The rest of it would be about sex and other stupid stuff. Carol's show, despite not having the trite crap, STILL remains relevant and has not dated. GREAT ART.
@@rtususian yes, and she also made mention of networks nowadays never agreeing to hire a newcomer with no experience like Vicki Lawrence - or letting her go very quickly. I guess they were a little less myopic and corrupt back in the late 60s/early 70s. In some ways, Carol's show remains remarkably current. Yeah, the clothes are different but a lot of the sketches have not dated at all. A sign of great art - it outlives those who created it.

There are some people who Carol wanted on the show but they declined. One was Elizabeth Montgomery. There is a clip of Elizabeth having a conversation with Carol during a Q&A about the movie they did together. I think in deference to Lucy's divorce, Carol would not have Desi on the show. It's possible she invited Viv but maybe she declined? FYI, Desi Sr. and Lucie Arnaz appeared on LAUGH-IN, separately though.
@@rtususian well, yeah she probably just wasn't friends with them - not in a bad way. I think her husband (Producer) Joe Hamilton was looking for a certain kind of personality/actor to appear and that's why they had a lot of the same people back regularly - there's a rather long list of them! There were a good number of then-famous comedians who never appeared on the show probably for the reason that they couldn't put together sketch/musical material for them. Sometimes they'd have the huge A-listers like Gloria Swanson on, and it was more of a challenge because they were usually not comedically trained or comedy was not their forte. Anyhoo, Carol's show was the greatest of its kind. I think even Garry Moore would agree! Her show was on for 11 years and could've gone on even longer if she'd wanted it to I think!
