I went to school with her daughter from 1974 to 1979, during the final years of her show and was best friends with her daughter through high school. I spent a lot of time in their home on weekends and during the summer. Saw another side of her and how much taping the show took out of her and her husband, Joe Hamilton, who produced the show. Very demanding schedule to produce such excellence week after week!
I just recently read a comment from Carol saying that it would never be possible to pull off this show today, considering their 26-piece live orchestra, the size of their stock company of dancers, all the writing for the comedy sketches plus the choreography and last but not least, all the custom-made costumes - she said it was like putting on a Broadway show opening night every week.
@@hebnehIm in awe of all they were able to do in a week. This cast and the writers, orchestra, dancers, and Bob Mackie, wow, it just mind blowing the talent they had on that show!!
Loved the Shirley MacLaine acting and her dancing on Carol's show. Carol, only had the best on it. These ladies are now in their autumn years, but they were such a pleasure to see them in their youth and vigor!
Imagining these two handsome young dancers , now old and grey telling their grand kids " I once danced on TV with Shirley McClain to which they would say "WHO's That?" kids these days PFFFF! don't know what they missed back in the golden years of Our youth.
As a young boy(born in 1963) in the 70’s watching these and being riveted yet probably understanding less than 20% of skits like these, only now do I see & appreciate it for what is was, and pretty “artistic” for prime time network tv- specifically the Mama & Eunice scenes- a riff on Long Day’s Journey Into Night(O’Neil), Who’s afraid of Virginia Woolf(Albee), and at least 3 or 4 of Tennessee Williams…. brilliant!! 🙏🎭❤️
I remember this gorgeous set! It’s so elegant🔥 I wish I could have attended a taping at least once in those ten years and then taken a taxi over to Chasen’s and seen Carol and the crew, and her guest star of the show, have dinner. And tried the chili!

Christina, there is a recent cleaned up copy of "Once Upon A Mattress" from 1964 with Carol on UA-cam! She did it again for TV in the early 1970s in the same role (she played the wicked mother around 2002) but some of the best songs, we're cut! Not wise on whoever's part! ❤

It blows my mind how sexy and classy this lady always started off her shows. They did things in such a way, back in the day, that I'm not sure we'll ever, see again. It will be a VERY, sad day indeed, when this lady passes. Happy St. Patrick's Day. Much Love and Warmest Wishes. Be Well and Safe. Out. 🙂🖐🏼😔

@@randysills4418 : Hi Randy. How are you? Thank You for your reply. Hope you are having an enjoyable summer. Yes, I'm Canadian myself, but have been a fan of this lady forever, pretty much. As far back as I can remember. Whenever we first, started getting her show, here, in Canada, which I think, was pretty early in the 70s. So you could say I grew up being exposed to her charm and super talent. She feels like extended, family actually, not a stranger, at all. What floors me Brother, is the new, fascinating, turn her career has taken now, with all her, new, exposure over UA-cam here. Garnering her a whole new, and maybe, third and forth generation of fans here, now. How sweet it must be to have this exciting, new, time in her life, at the age she currently, is now. If she makes any attempt at all, to check the unending and myriad number of comments she gets over her channel here, then surely, she must know that she is absolutely, ADORED, STILL, and the WORLD OVER, as well. The reason I feel it will be a very sad day when she passes, apart from the decades of adoring love she has had and has; is because this lady is amoung a class of woman that I'm not sure, even, exist anymore. Maybe they do but they are very, few and far between, indeed. Class, charm, brains, wit, sexiness, EVEN NOW! Pretty much everything encapsulated into one human being. A rare treasure, indeed. When she passes, a whole era will pass with her, and that will be sad, indeed. Warmest Wishes. Be Well and Safe. Out. 🥲🥰🖐🏼😔

I guess CBS was probably already doing the bicentennial moments before 1976, that Carol brunette show would satirize it. This was the funniest episode I've seen.
The reason we won't see variety shows of such caliber because as Miss Burnett said; It would cost too much money. I especially like it when she imitates Queen Elizabeth II.
Does anybody know if Carol Burnetts dresses and outfits from when she would do her stage intro / Q&A are displayed in a museum somewhere? I mean her dresses were just masterpieces by Bob Mackie .
*AUDIENCE MEMBER:* " ..I'm from NYC, did you ever work the Catskill Mountains?..." *CAROL:* " ...Yes...I did....as a 'performer'...." ...that was the slickest, FILTHIEST Joke, Miss Carol! ...ha-HAAA!! (2:23) ...Oh, it's gonna be REAL sad when she leaves us, Man....
Chanced upon Shirley in a deserted mall in Santa Fe in 2009. Walked on by, of course. Everyone deserves their privacy. She was wearing a huge mink coat-tho I know nothing of fur. And she seemed abstracted and very pale. But her posture was a dancer’s posture-long, elevated and economical. Compared to this video, she’d not aged at all. She didn’t have her dogs with her, and seemed less present on that account. But her skin was porcelain and I wondered what she was doing there.
“We are dealing with tiny undeveloped minds - yours!” Entirely accurate appraisal of sports mad parents. But that ending of the skit… that’s the bigotry I grew up with.
I just saw Carol Burnett on Jimmy Kimmel on UA-cam and Carol is 90 years young! 2023

True. As much as we miss these great shows, today it would cost a small country's national net worth to pull them off.
