- I still am having financial troubles and needed assistance paying rent so I opened digital art commissions for a month. It didn't turn out well. I share the ups and downs of creating the only commission I got during this period.

You should also try doing character adopts. You make a cool character design and you sell it. Sometimes people are more likely to buy art when they immediately see the finished product. I hope your financial troubles are resolved soon 👍
Time for suspiciously wealthly furries to help artists eat again
Thank you to our animal suited overlords
r/AIyiff would beg to differ. There is nothing AI can't draw anymore
@@TotalWannabe i think for these furries its often about the feeling of getting a commission rather than just having a picture of their oc. they like to contribute to the art community, and the fact that the art will actually be based off of THEIR oc rather than a specific description makes the piece feel more personal.
@@6012reasol Sure... Also, AI's can't draw +18

I sometimes look at art I've been commissioned to do and think it looks like ass and then get discouraged before sending it. Your ability is much greater than mine, and in a way seeing you also have that same struggle makes me feel comforted in a way. That artist solidarity of "whatever skill level you're at, we all at some point think our art looks shit" lmao
Once I had a mental breakdown over a commission about 5 days-in (2 cats, a dog, and a frog chilling by a volcano on Hawaii) and I messaged the buyer that I wanted to give their money back, but the commissioner was super kind and encouraged me to finish the picture. In the end I got my payment doubled and recieved even more encouragement. If that particular commissioner agreed to cancel the order and took the monay back, I'm not sure I would've ever tried to do commissions again.
It might've been one of my most defining art-related experiences thanks to this one random person.
@@SylvesterLazarus that's such a sweet story wow :')
I have a client commission me november last year, I promised to deliver by march (it's pretty complex so it takes long) but after my last updates they didn't respond, I was thinking they got discouraged with the quality and decided to quit on me. I haven't had the motivation to finish it either and it's sitting as a work in progress until now almost 60% halfway through. Never heard of client ever since the sketch phase. I want to refund the upfront payment but I don't have the money, at this point I'm afraid to reach out to them.
When I look back at my art that I made before going to the art university I feel the same thing since I've improved a lot since then and actually found my art style.
@@greenc1088I hope that both of you are ok. I suggest to finish the art piece since you don't have the money to return currently. Maybe your client is busy and will contact you on the established date.
With the dawn of ai art furries hold an entire industry in their fursuited hands.
They do. help
I for one welcome our suspiciously wealthy new furry overlords
I've always known I was destined to draw fursonas for money, it was written in my stars
The only thing holding your youtube channel back, is the fact, that you aren't favoured by the algorithm. I love your videos btw you are very much underrated on god for real!
you should definetly exploit youtube by making 3 hour gaming videos with no cuts xd. All Gain No Brain. thank me later
You spoke to soon algorithm recommended this vid
Absolutely love this video! And it's rare to see a video where the artist himself asking for an other people opinions on there work even though it's important to ask for a critique for your to improve, absolutely my favourite part of the video
*Their
@@ELTABULLO ok 👍
Same, I liked that part too
I felt this video way too hard its not even funny :’) I have the urge to scold you for always trying to fit epic landscape action shots into 6 hours of work and then giving into perfectionism and adding another 50 hours but also I do the same thing tbh. I’ve been very much trying to learn that not every artwork needs to be a masterpiece and especially for commissions as long as the client is happy, you did a good job. That being said, the end result is an absolute masterpiece for the amount of time you managed to make it in!
The silver lining here is that it can train you to make more efficient decisions, sort of like how timed figure drawing forces you to choose what the most important elements to bring out are
@@challagundla4 Very true! That's actually a skill I haven't actually thought about much tbh. I'll add it to the pile of things to work on 💜
HONESTLY, Challa is so real about his art and to his clients.. he is definitely an inspiration, and always gives an occarional reminder of how great art is, especially now that I invest majority of my time in school and music, and art is slipping away
You're honestly one of my favourite youtubers and it breaks my heart how the youtube algorithm really isn't the kindest to you, I've been trying to support your channel the best i could, sharing it around to friends and on servers, I'm definitely planning on getting one of your shirts. Anyways all of this to say please continue doing what you do, love your art, love your vids and stay awesome (sorry for the very cheesy comment, it had to be said 😔)
Babe wake up! New Challa video 🤩
I have been watching your videos since 2018-19 and you never failed to entertain :) I really hope you'll be favored by the algorithm soon because your stuff NEEDS to be seen!!! Also, amazing work, its really refreshing to see another artist not being afraid of critique and improving this way. Once I get a stable income ill definitely commission you!!!
It turned out pretty good! I'm so glad you fixed the palm problem. I spotted that quickly and it was bugging me
Great video. Great artwork. Great channel.
Every upload from Challa feels like Christmas, bro.
Sorry you’re going through tough times but glad to see another new vid.
Great video! I really enjoyed the format and the asking for feedback portion. It's always interesting to see what other people would change and than see what you choose from those opinions, and how you implement them in your own way.
how happy am i to find out youre still uploading 😄
i remember watching you everyday i could like 5-6 years ago and i learned alot from you and loved every video, thank you for the fun times
Interesting to see your process with this work. Plus the issues you faced along the way, a nice result in the end 😊
It always feels great to come up on UA-cam and see your video popping up in notifications 👌
missed seeing your content challa :D
glad to be here on time: i'll be watching, thank you for uploading
I like the composition. It's nice to see your thought process and you voicing your insecurities as you go. I think we all go through that. I think you handled your time constraints very logically and gave yourself additional time, which was the right decision. What I would say though is that time away from a piece is critical. What helps me is to do several different pieces and to work on them on different days, that way my brain has been reset and I forget what the image looked like. So when I go back, I have fresh eyes and that allows me to pick out flaws or generate new ideas. Other that that, I really think you have the right approach.
It was really cool and insightful seeing you, an artist I look up to, go through a process and get kind of disappointed with his own work. It's a feeling I'm super familiar with as a beginner. But seeing how you asked for feedback, took the insights on board and treated it like a good learning experience was really uplifting and positive. I hope the client enjoyed the piece, I think I'd be pretty happy with it :)
It looks so great!! Amazing 🤩
I'm so glad your video got recommended to me! I loved your video!
Ngl wish these videos were longer like your previous series. I hope your job situation get sorted as well, it's rough out there.
Omg It was a hard start but it ended on a soft good note at least!! thanks for the upload I was missing your video hihi :D
My gosh, this was really funny to watch and it felt really close to my drawing process which is like a funny disaster everytime 🤣🤣🤣
Nice video ^^
Oh wow.. So nice of the discord servers to do such detailed analysis
You should make more videos like this! Great video!! ☺️
Amazing video, thanks for sharing your process
Love seeing your process with such nice editing and even adding extra things like the critiques form the discord. Great vid would love to see more like this!
That rooster gag though, funniest shit I've ever seen
same it was killing me 💀
This is so gooddddd
Loved seeing this 👏
I always learn something new when I watch Challa videos
Wow! Turned out pretty good!
congratulations you went to the creative process
Your editing is as good as your art man, cant wait for the algorithm to bless you
I love these videos you’ve been putting out! Hope you’re not broke, though. But great content.
Always love ur vids will probably commission something next time they r open
bro. this hits so different. the dragon. his expression. he looks like the dragon equivalent of a teenager challenging the wise old man behind the seven eleven to a duel. “you fool. you dare challenge me? haha” actually love it so much, thanks for being such a good artist and an inspiration. :)
Holy FUCK I remember watching ur vids when I was younger and felt so inspired to drawBRO U STILL INPIREUR AMAZING HOLY SHIT
Tchalla I'm your Biggest FAN!
this was really cool- I draw for hours in a day but my art never looks this good, yet you do this is just 5-6 hours is insane
Ohhh how pretty! Man just earned himself a new sub
I love your videos
honestly artist need to show more of this the working out process.
I really liked how they painted over your drawing. In my honest opinion, you couldve made this so much better. Maybe you need to do more planning, like in your robot moth piece.
6 hours is just not enough time tho...
Happy day when challa vid day(even tho Im late)
OMG THAT’S SO GOOD- I COULDN’T EVER DO THAT
But since you didn’t like your piece so much, i think a great way of changing the atmosphere to something more OOOOH EPIC is putting a bit of fire, broken houses, buildings or towers or even instead of day do night but i could NEVER do that, that was an AWESOME job you did here! There was a great while where a composition didn’t shock me so much. Pretty good job, i like it.
Where can we see your art?
Hi Challa, Greetings from Luxembourg.🇳🇱
It's Pretty good
Commenting for the blessing of the algorithm 🤌
Next time for beasts, i recommend to look at the art and monsters from monster hunter, it really helps out
I like episodes when you focus on one piece. it reminds me of old Let's Paints
Gosh darn it, why am I not doing commissions right now, I can draw furries, I literally am one. -cries in can't make myself draw-
This is seriously epic, I love watching other people's processes!
There needs to be honesty and a being upfront with whether or not something was made by AI, and an acceptance that it's not merely a tool, or if it straddles the line, not one for long.
I would cry
Like with the first video, planning seems to be an issue. You're amazing once you hit the rendering stage, but all it takes to save a headache in the middle parts is to make a 2x2 grid of thumbnails and not start collecting references until you have brainstormed at least four doodles. Four is enough to get the best stuff off the top of your head, and it gives you something to show the client very quickly, which can help with communication(it's unhealthy to rely on an extrinsic source to know that a piece *is* good, but engaging with them can tell you what they *believe* is good, a subtle but important distinction; all the arts hinge on belief). You can actually repeat the process for each element of the drawing too, until you've worked your way down to the exact texture of everything. When working digitally you can bash together all the best thumbnails and have something nearly ready for rendering right away - isolating the elements makes it easier to pay attention to each one and making it an explicit step helps you focus on rendering the parts that matter to the composition: Frazetta left large portions of his paintings undetailed and I think that's probably the right way to go for "epic fantasy art commission". I should go do more thumbnails right now.
this is why you sketch ideas using paper and pencil in any design process.
No way! You had your commisions open!? I so want an art piece from you..... Thats what I get for not being on any other platfroms😑
I made a youtube community post as well but probably should have made one every week or something to remind people. Will do that next time
I noticed the rainbow streak in the axe-wielding warrior's hair. Did the commissioner ask him to do that or was that a creative liberty?
I'm pointing this out because of the "furry" at the beginning... that character has the exact same thing going on in its hair/tail lmao.
I just think it would be really funny if Challa's epic fantasy drawinig drew inspiration from a literal furry OC.
You should try traditionally thumbnailing these beforehand. It helps when you can have like 30 composition ideas in under an hour
Also I give it a 9 out of 10. 😉
Honestly I shouldn’t be one to talk since my digital art skills are no where near your level, but something about the posing did feel off but I can’t point it out either, it might be because of the distance she is from the dragon, but the colors and values really do go well together, I think the colors could’ve been a bit more brighter? Idk there’s something missing with the colors, but I can’t point it out. I’m a huge critic on my own work which hinders my progress, but it also helps when I’m watching others like you draw, because I always take something away by the end. You did amazing though!!! I could never.
7/10👏 great job. I like the overall composition. I just wish that the weapon was cooler(maybe making it a magical weapon to combat that massive dragon).
the client didn't want that
@@notavailableatthemoment7623 fair point. Also the time limit would’ve suffered for it too. But I was just stating what would make it more interesting to me.
Damn now for us to beat the AI we need to be specifically good in one scale of drawing one team of drawing
Gogogo
Cool vid. Btw is that the glock from starnger things/Henrys house at 9:00?
yea haha
The "I looked at it at 3AM on my phone" moments hit a bit too close to home
make more doing commission video :c
You showed us @Fiverr they should definitely acknowledge your page
I have publicly trashed their 20% platform fee so I doubt theyd be interested 💀
well as an artist , i charge 60$ for 6 hours .
so thats nice to see you are getting paid quite well for your time :)
nicu
I think its 7.5/10 you could have done a better pose and the axe rlly doesnt seem that good to me and you could add some more ruins behind the dragon like he was inside the ruins not in a random place with some wall. But over all you did a good job and for the extra time you spent on it for free it gets like a 8/10 if i had money id give at least 50% the price in tip
Challa, you should consider uploading to TikTok to gain a following. So many underground musicians, actors, writers, authors, artists gained big followings on there. I know people look down on the app but it's probably the best marketing tool available right now
I've considered making youtube shorts to try the format but haven't gotten far with that yet
where are her ears and tails tho? amazing drawing either way
My friend is trying to get into Commissions, any tips?
Liked the part where submitted for criticism.
Awesome perspective and the warrior turned out great, but not a fan of the dragon. 6 out of 10.
Ai is good at abstract and generalizing concepts but it isnt as good yet with specifics and details, you are proof that Ai dont have shit on this skill
Hey and what about clients feedback? I would like to know it!
I thought I'm the only one who spent 4 days + on a painting 😂
2:06 you forgor to censor the thing, king
LMAO thanks for pointing it out ahahah i just applied a blur in the youtube editor
did they say you could srap the tails and ears? i wouldve asked first beforehand. other than that i loved seeing the process of improving the art using other people's feedback
Yeah they said I could do that I just didn't put it in the vid
omg
is this type of tracing ok
pls tell me yes cuz I've been suffering with poses
I'm new to this channel. Can someone tell me why he put time limit for his drawing?
Things re different and difficult lately
Can't you tell the difference between dragon and wyvern?
After day 4 comes day 4 again? :O
Does anyone know what timer he uses? Im looking for something similar where it can just overlay over everything :)
It's the built-in one in windows 10/11, just search for "clock" in the start menu
@@challagundla4 ah shoot my bad, thanks for the reply and thanks for the content!
The AI doesn't know how to do chopsticks 🥢🥢🥢 eat soup 🍲
times are tough when you have to rely on furry comissions. Hope you can pull though man.
I would comission you but right now I need to get commissions I'm super broke right now btw what kind of brush you used for the sketch part in CSP? I'm curious what other artists use ;)
Just a normal round brush on low density
it's much easier using live models and overexaggerating certain details. I'm a comic artists and god forbid if I'm stuck on a pose I combine a few references by myself which helps me better understand a figure. alot of people forget about the gesture which is just as important. Even when is do fine art figures I tend to draw like I was doing the " how to drae comics the marvel way" . make sure it's all set up before you put full structure on it, think of everything as small shapes coming together. charcoal is another cheap way to find a good middle ground between paint and drawing and ik digital artists don't like to draw physically but it helps breaking certain elements down. otherwise very cool , I love the dragon and the drama.
another practice that helps me is taking a literal physical step back and looking at the art piece and looking like if I were not the artist.
the openness to criticism promotes growth which I respect. I'm proud to see you try this.
discord channel? where :0
My friend you drew a wyvern, not a dragon!
A wyvern is literally a type of dragon
