Terence Crawford Boxing Skills - How Good is Bud?

  • Time to look at the boxing skills of Terence Crawford, the Nebraska welterweight considered one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the World today.
We are going to break out those Terence Crawford boxing skills into ‘5 Fearsome Factors’.
    1. The Boxing Stance - In his natural southpaw boxing stance, Crawford holds his body weight central, his shoulders are side on and his head is in line with his rear foot (rather than central between the feet). The encourages orthodox opponents to ‘over commit’ when using their jab, falling into the well laid Crawford trap.
    2. Straight Line Fighter - Crawford uses relatively little head movement and minimal lateral movement at long range. He is all about range understanding and the use of speed (with the push in and push out) along with the double arm block to make opponents miss and be in position to attack.
    3. Versatility - Terence Crawford has a counter measure for any opponent of any style. An example is his orthodox boxing stance and how he ’squares’ his shoulders giving him a short cut to delivering right hand counters to the incoming (orthodox) jab.
    4. Cadence/Rhythm - Crawford is like water erosion - a steady, relentless drip of jabs and feints interrupted periodically with torrential outbursts of hooks. Crawford is an active counter puncher (often looking to land shots as the opponent throws) but also happily backs off to reset.
    5. Simplicity - Terence Crawford has every skill in the book, but he does not over-complicate his boxing style. He executes the basic boxing skills brilliantly well and consistently throughout the match.
So that’s the Terence Crawford boxing skills broken out into 5 Fearsome Factors!
    Cheers
    Fran

As a Muay Thai fighter, I think what is big about Crawford is that he will do combinations of more than 5 punches, which fighters rarely do, you punch him once, he responds with 7 and all different punches.

      @@klipzgod1503 I see 5 to 7 intermittent 3 paise 2, paise 4, it depends.

The whole bit at the beginning is an interesting point because I have done the same thing when I competed being a lefty. I did it mostly because I didn't like my head centered. It felt to immobile and not fluid if I kept it centered and it was harder to get away from shots particularlyjabs and right hooks.. If I kept it lined up with my back foot, my bobbing and weaving was much smoother for offense coming in and made me harder to hit since not only my head was still tucked but slightly further back with defense. Incredibly good point made Coach Franz

I've been watching your videos for a while and I just now checked out the beginner boxing toolkit, I'm silly for not checking it out sooner it's exactly what I've been looking for. A genuine thank you for making it free, I started off at a mma gym but learned over a year or so that it was more of a facility gym I planned on going to a more dedicated gym but then covid struck. I got a heavy bag and utilized my quarantine time training; and could not have been more fortunate to find this channel to seriously assist with that. Pleas don't stop making videos dawg

I think for defense and safety every good boxer should be able to maneuver arround the ring like tyson furry/ mayweather / ali (of course her danced more :)
Iam also expermenting with switching southpaw to move better to the right like tyson fury.
Iam lucky to be ambidextrous so I have te ability to create a style with the best of both worlds

@@myboxingcoach They seem to be the future of boxing. Interesting you should mention Bud holding his head off the center line transitioning his weight to the back foot because Herol Graham did a demo vid showing someone how to lean back while bending his back leg, however Crawford`s stance is much better than Graham`s I feel, have you heard of the boxing channel Fouts Boxing Theory? Great channel like yours, he`s got some good vids on Bud and says he`s a top 10 P4P fighter, I don`t know if he meant now or in history but he`s a fan, he did say that Bud lacks craft though, what do you feel he means by that? Thanks.

He's style is nice but leaves him vulnerable to body shots... and he hasn't fought anyone willing to focus on a body attack.
