How to Make Cordage from Scraps of Thread

- Опубліковано 6 бер 2021
- Easy tutorial for making cordage. Save your leftover threads and make some one-of-a-kind cordage to use in your art projects. I just learned how to make this in a class I have been taking from Alice Fox. (the class was on a lot of things, not just cordage) and now it is my newest obsession. I have been wanting to share some more ways to use up all those scraps of thread that pile up around us and I think this might be my favorite so far.
Use the cordage for a journal closure, the top of a tag, lay it down and couch it only a piece of slow stitching. The possibilities are endless and no one else will have the same cordage as you do!

Liked this idea to use up thread bits as cords for many other new ideas. Thanks for your tube.
You are welcome! I think it's fun to use up the scraps that way.
I’m so happy I found you!…I’ve wanted something different for my pendants and this totally fits my aesthetic!…THANK YOU ❤
Glad you were inspired. 💚
Oh my. I have hundreds of spools of thread. All old and not worthy enough to hold on a button. I think this maybe a good way to use it, and maybe with all the hundreds of seam binding? Yeah Auctions, LOL!!
I have a little boutique where I’m doing a lot of embroidery 🪡 and sewing. Since I’m a beginner, I make a lot of mistakes and waste so much thread. I could never figure out how to use the leftovers and I hated the feeling of being so wasteful /inept 😕 . I’m so happy I found your video, this idea is amazing and I hope to incorporate cordage to my designs , I feel so hopeful now! Altho this video was posted years ago, it came exactly when I needed it!
I’m a subscriber now 😊
Ohhh the blue one... that is what shibori is waiting for. I love the cordage just so cool and wow
@@SusanTaylorBrown I am sure it is just like the one I sent to Peg... for whatever reason, it is on the pony vs the train.
This is so cool! Thank you sharing this!
This cordage would be fabulous worked into a crazy quilt... especially with the sparkly fabric/thread!!
Thank you for this Susan!
Hi Susan, somehow I missed this terrific tute! What a fantastic look, as well as using up and repurposing your old goodies. Waste not/want not! Thanks for this perfect video!
Love love love this. I have a lot of threads from washing fabrics and trimming the threads off. All the colors are so cool I can’t throw them away. I figured I would be able to use them for something. Yay! Cordage. Thanks for sharing!
Wonderful idea…I found you through Andrea at Artmaze💕
Very cool! Love people who share ways to use scraps & recycling. Kudos to you! TYFS ❤️🦋💜
Have to try this
Oh my starz I love this. I’ve wanted / attempted a similar concept but didn’t know it was “a thing”. I need things like this for my “flared “ days. Hours of something to help distract but also accomplish something to use in my art. Thank you for bringing this to us and making a great tutorial to follow. 🤍🤗🤎
Susan this is awesome. I am so much in to recycling garbage into beautiful purpose.
This would work great to use for weaving! I don’t have near the collection that you have of threads but I’m saving them for sure.
I learned this about a year ago on youtube,i think from Ms. Fox, using fabric strips. I've been saving my threads for a few years and have them in a two-gallon container, waiting for a project. Yay! Thanks for doing this.
Fascinating
This is wonderful, Susan! I also make cordage. I've only used two hands to twist as my threads/fabric were heavier than what you're using here. Now I want to try it they way you're doing it. Yay! You taught me something new. Thanks! xoxo
Wonderful…
These would be great additions to a tassel. Hugs!!
This is amazing! What a great idea! TFS!
I love this
Absolutely amazing! Thanks for sharing! ❤️
I've made cording from material but this is just amazing. Who would have thought that scrap threads could turn into something so pretty. Thank you so much for sharing.
This is fabulous. I must try it.
Cool idea I'll have to save some threads.
Oh I love this thank you Susan
Love it. Excellent presentation. Thank you for sharing.👏
Awesome chicha Thank you for this video.. That would make a beautifulrug or even blankets.. Donating to homeless or gifting to someone special.. 🥰. I love making things and recycled stuff is the best, why not get the money out of it. Also making your with your bare hands just makes you feel like you really make something all of it. I have been collecting bark and plants and about to start making my own and mixing it all together like you are teaching here. Hugs
this is so cool!! thanks for showing us how to do this!
This is great!!! Thanks for sharing, now gonna use up some scraps!! Thanks so much!!!
Fun tutorial!!!
This is a wonderful idea ! Thank you
OMG....what a great idea,,,,,I need to try this for my Grunge Journals as I have bag FULL of fuzziness.....will tag you when I have made some and share on my channel....tfs your talents 😊
Never seen cording before Susan. Too bad that I took all my thread scraps to make this year's easter baskets but when Easter is gone I can reuse them to try this. Tfs. Looks so wonderful!!
Great idea ty
Love this!
For bojo beads also are perfect
I love this idea! I’ve done with with scraps of fabric before but I never thought to do it with my left over strings.
I learned fabric scrap cordage last year but this is the first time I have seen thread and it's so groovy. Can hardly wait for the vids using natural fiber. I've just subscribed so will be binge watching for the next couple of days. Off to find the FB group now. TFS!
I might have to put a post on my Facebook asking people around me to save this stuff for me. Lol Also a little tiny smidgen of glue on those one water and glue and just tap and then roll on those frays Also, taking apart old sweaters like the knit ones even old ripped stretch pants you know what I'm saying.. I have bags full of stuff like that. Also at Walmart least ours they sell in the fabric section rolls of all differ kinds of fabric cuts. I just found some nice cream qnd colorful ones the price are 4 yes for $4 there is one for loke 8 bucks I forget the yards on that. But I cut them up as well. Just some ideas. I think people get what you are saying, just giving some ideas.. Thank you again..
This is awesome! Just recently I was trying to do the same thing with the loose threads from tearing fabric strips. I knew the basic concept how to twist the two strands until they doubled over (kink). I couldn't successfully add new strands very well and you explained the process very well. Also I had no idea about using the water. Thank you for sharing!
I have artheritis in my fingers so I think this will be a good training for me.... it's gonna hurt but then I'll just take a break!! Thank you!!🙂👍
Fabulous 😁
Fabulous! I've only done this with waxed linen threads in my bookbinding to use for closures...Looks really spiffy if you add beads every 1 to 2 inches along the thread as you roll it.
P here of PM artist Studio...loved this but my old fingers have been stressed out making paper beads. A bit of the arthy in the thumb joints! I do love the uneven look of this method. I have some raw wool that I have always intended to spin...hmmmmmmm.
@@SusanTaylorBrown I am visualizing the drill... it ain't a pretty picture! Yes, M had mentioned she was doing that. I do love the look of the hand twisted cord! Can't get that at the store!
I seen this done before but I don't think I ever understood it this well before thank you so much for sharing. I just started to get a bag of string together from my slow stitching cut offs, I was wondering what I'm going to do with it. 🤗🐞🥰
Wowee love this. Not done any cordage before.
@@SusanTaylorBrown aww how wonderful. I was sorry to miss yesterday’s session but will catch up on the recording. I think you mentioned experimenting with paper. I can’t wait to see more. I think the combination of paper, thread and beachcombed finds is going to be very exciting.
I just can't get the twisting could you show in slow motion how to do this..loved watching it..thank you
Susan, a personal request. Can we do this on one of your Wednesday live streams? I'm not succeeding.
This is very interesting and I love the results. How does it hold up when it’s cut? Does it stay twisted?
Good tutorial. I made a yard of cord with rhubarb strings.
@@SusanTaylorBrown Rhubarb might be out of season. How about celery strings? I've seen tutorials on making cording out of nettles and other vines.
How do u join the next piece of fabric?
I am pretty sure I show a join in the video. You lay the new piece over the old one and continue. I go back later and trim the ends.
Iv been making angels since
9/11
Don’t know how to show you
Would love to see some of your angels. You can email me some pics. Stb@susantaylorbrown.com
