- I take the Google Pixel 8a out for a day in Mountain View, California right before I/O. We check out Google's campus, head to a baseball game, and find a dive bar with a Google history all while we test the battery life, cameras, and more.

I wasn’t a camera guy until I started watching this guy and David Imel…now? There are so many things to take pictures and videos of!
Thank you! And Imel is the real photographer for sure 👌
The 8as look is what sells me on it. I'm not a power user and have used low-end midranges for years, so the 8a will feel like a flagship to me.
As someone who owned a 6a, It did everything better than expected and is 95% of what people will need in terms of performance so you should not have any issues. One of the reasons I don't have it today is due to how much heat it produced doing some tasks like taking pictures and video and the florida heat doesn't help ether. It unfortunately killed my battery due to those issues, so i hope the g3 has gotten better with heat management. Outside of that, the a series phones are real eye openers as to what you really need in a smartphone
@@midnitestateusing 8a now. Heat hasn't been noticeable for me yet.
@@applegeepedigree good to hear. i'm interested in the g5 as it will be made by tsmc instead of samsung (there processors are known for running hotter and less efficient). Still its good to hear they have learned from their past
Dave, I love your videos, you seem like a fun dude to hang out with. Cheers.
love your videos. was fun seeing you in my neighborhood
Came here after watching Mr Mobile you and him are awesome Phone/tech reviewers. Hope you had a great trip in California. Im going to New York city a lot this year
First things first 😁☕ love it, thanks for another great video 👌 looking at the 8a as a secondary device and as always this is one of my favourite go to videos! Much appreciated from wee Northern Ireland 😎
Ahhh, David...you bring me back every time for the:
1. Camera stills/video results between a few of the recently released Pixels as well as iPhones and Samsungs, presented in the easily/quickly seen quad comparisons
2. The bloopers/outtakes!
I love that aloe colorway on the P8a but am not quite ready to relinquish the coral colorway on my P7a. In any event, OUTSTANDING review (as always) and please keep the excellent work. :)
Great review. Top notch as usual.
Our guy sets that bar really, reallllly high for content review… awesome as always tku. Loving both my P7pro and P8. I bounce back & forth alot and hope Google stays with innovation push and keep polishing the cell lineup.
I came here to learn about the pixel 8A, learnt a lot more about the google campus, awesome work as always.
Yeah love his vids for these misc info about the places and things
Excellent Video! I currently have the 6a and 7a, and so far the 6a is still pretty solid all things considered. I almost traded this 6a in on the 7a but kept it as the 7a oddly enough has a less than ideal image quality to the live streaming capability through the default UA-cam app oddly enough (6a with its older generation camera sensor seems to do fine).
Thanks for watching and for the info on your experience with the 6a and 7a!
The review that I've been waiting for
Thank you so much!
Live watching your vids. Your trivia every vid is the best as i learn new stuff and enjoy the sceneries woth your beautiful cinematography 💯 continue doing this stuff and hope you don't get biased over a brand 😂💜
Aw thank you! And don't worry not gonna stop any time soon :) appreciate the encouragement!
Another great review. Looks like a nice phone and I agree that the features should not be throttled just because of someone’s budget constraints. As usual, the bloopers are a natural nice finish to the review.
Another great review. From your camera samples, I actually prefer the daytime main camera results of the 7a. However, I preferred the videos from the 8a.
Thank you!
I like it a lot and I think it's not a bad price but sadly not sold here so I think more features are region locked, great video Sir
Hi Brother like always very nice video from you i love so much your videos and i always learn something new i wish you all the best and i send you Big Big Thumbs up 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 from Lithuania 🇱🇹
Thank you so much for watching!
These pictures are beautiful. Videos have a long way to go through.
you’re one of the most creative tech reviewer, watching your videos makes me want to explore new places 😍
also makes me want to go out and grab a coffee or a drink when I’m feeling lazy 😂
Getting my 8a next week ❤
I got the 8a yesterday. Love the aloe. The battery life leaves something to be desired, but I don’t mind charging it everyday. I’m a fairly moderate user.
I've heard the battery will tune itself to your usage and will get better overtime
What about those mad bezels ? Did they effect your experience ?
@@Tomaso-TheGreatHonestly if you're not used to small bezels it's not a big deal.
It has smart battery software. It takes a few days to adjust itself to your usage before it improves.
@@Tomaso-TheGreat i can answer that. Its the same bezels as my previous phone. And I use darkmode so I often does not even see them.
I don't know if you'll noticed the shadows on the roof at 7:14 timeframe. 8Pro nailed it.
Now its goona be some people's new vlogging cam
The larger bezels make it looks cuter
Is the video taken using a tripod or any kind of stabilizer gadgets or just in hands?
Do you use a gimbal for when you do camera test for phones?
That battery life, SoC, modem, Gorilla Glas 3 (really google), bezels, finger print, PWM for $500, no thanks. On the other hand, your videos are gold.
Ha thank you!
I have the pixel 8a, I don’t charge it at night I charge it when I wake up and it was at 90 percent when I left my house this morning. It’s currently 6:24 and I’ve been using the phone sense 12 so 6 hours later , and after watching some of the pacers game on it I’m at 43% so 57 percent in 6 hours while using the phone throughout the day plus watching some videos and sports. Still have plenty of battery life left to end my day
I’ve heard of people having issues with dropped calls & unreceived calls. Is this an issue with google phones or carrier service ?
Am I right in thinking the battery is poor initially while the software sets and adjusts to the user and then improves over time?
A comparison of the macro photos wolud have been helpfull
I’m considering buying one these just to use as a work phone, mainly making phone calls, & that’s about it.
Does the pixel 8pro support and display the ultra HDR then ?
I'm actually kinda curious what sort of hardware does it take to get a clean cropped 2x 12MP photo...cause my 6 Pro can't do it but the 7 Pro (which as far as I know has pretty much the same main sensor) can
I have a Pixel 8, but I have my SIM in an S24+. I got too frustrated with how often the Pixel's screen just didn't respond to touch.
This. The number of times the fingerprint sensor has failed is astonishing
Nice camera
Pixel 7a owner here, yes - Battery not great. but price is low and i usually have a wall charger nearby. i will skip 8a , looking forward it Pixel 9 Pro.
I haveSamsung S23 and I can see the importance of software. Hardware and software coordination is the most importantpart of the mobile devices. and also for photo the light is the essential :) you can take the biggggggest photo with maximum pixels on earth, but if the light is not right it is almost trash :)
That's the new mid range killer 💪
Love this phone
Is network signal as good as other phones?
I just ordered a new Pixel 8 Pro from my carrier Spectrum mobile for $549, trading in my 6A fir $165. Wasnt planning to upgrade but a want a larger screen and the price was great.
Your pocket won't want a bigger screen
Part of me feels like I should have held out for the Pixel 8 but I do love my Pixel 7.
HOWS DA CAMERA??? IS IT REALLY GOOD?? IS IT BETTER DEN VIVO X100 ULTRA AND ONE PLUS 12???? NEED SUGGESTIONS PLEASE.
Definitely better than OnePlus 12 but not sure about Vivo X100 Ultra.
Good thing is you make video by pixel phone.
I too forget words or lines while making a video…😂 but I think now it happens with everyone!
Jep Dave, but Apple had always played "the software game" and Samy now hopped on aswell.. The thing is that them Google devices are not at the same level of rifanature as Samys or Apples devices and they(Google) will need to work more on the hardware to hopefully even the output result.. Cheers man 🎉
I'm looking to upgrade from my S22, can't decide between Pixel 8 or 8a lol
Es incomprensible que el 7a tenga mejor que el nuevo 8a😅
I have the 8A and a Samsung A52s 5G. If i watch photos from google photo on both devices, the colors on the 8A screen looks washed out. And for some reason, the screen does not look as sharp even when the A52s have worse DPI. Battery life, the A52s 5G does easily 3 days on a charge with normal use, what is even more impressive is that those 3 days are on 85% charge since I locked it to that. The 8A I had good battery 2 days, and really bad for 2 days, so not sure what is going on :) I also think the software in the Samsung is way better, just small things like no gallery app on the Google.. like what? I also like that the Samsung shows battery data since last charge, the 8A only shows since last full charge for some reason, which is really uninteresting since I mostly never fully charge my phones. Google have lots of things to improve in their software to be in the ballpark that I would recommend their phones.
SHOULD I WAIT FOR THE 9 OR BUY THE 8 ? 😕 I'M JUST CONFUSED
Wait for the 9, then buy the 8pro
I'm excited about the AI chipset development in phones .
I'll keep using my Google Pixel 6a
The damn 1990's screen bezel width is so offputting.
Why Mostly 7a much better image than 8a?
I don't know about 8a but 7a crop 16MP from the main sensor for x2 Zoom and above
It doesn't according to Google's site. Both the 8a and 7a are missing the "2x optical quality zoom" under the Rear Camera section of the specs compared to the 8 and 8 Pro that have it (that's the cropping of the sensor). store.google.com/us/magazine/compare_pixel?hl=en-US&toggler0=Pixel+8&toggler1=Pixel+7a&toggler2=Pixel+8a
6:10 thank you everyone says the pixel 8 is better but they never explain
Not sure whether to get the 8a or to stick with my Redmi Note 13 Pro.
No matter how good the camera is if you cannot property phone calls. UA-cam reviewers will never tell about this. The main purpose of a phone is calling not photo taking.
@@desigamer1619 Yes but these are smartphones but I'm going to stick with my current phone till Google sorts out the battery issues.
It can control lights that's all I use it for actually
Making videos has never been as easy as it is now 😂😂😂
7 years of update. Now we are sure that we no longer need Apple.
~ 3 hours of SOT is rather low no matter how you try to defend it.
He stil had like 50% after 3 hours sot it would be more like ~ 6 hours sot after 0-100%.
Screen on time is a poor judge of usage to be honest (I'll make a Decodr episode about it one of these days lol). Just look more at what I did with the phone as a good gauge to compare how you use it and if you think it'll last you for your needs 🤷♂️
Honestly, it depends on how you use it or any phone for that matter. If you’re playing games, taking video & photos, all of these things will take a toll on any phone & its battery.
Coffee ☕ ✔️
i dont know .. tbh from what ive seen so far , to me, even the 6a makes better pics!! like, yes u might have better sharpness when zoomed in on 8a cause of more mpx but the pic look, is way way way better on the 6a ! more dulled down better hdr ect.. am i the only one that can see this?!? ps i noticed that even when the 7a came out and was debating should i get the 6a or the 7a .. this 8a picss look like its made by samsung or something, i dont like it at all
If only the pixel had a bigger battery - and fast charging like oneplus
Pixel 8a is like iphone xr for android but a lil better
It's like having an iPhone xr but better in every single way, so basically it's nothing like a fucking iPhone xr
@@user-ou6lj8wu6c AAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHA LMAO FR
Still using a shitty low-frequency, high modulation PWM screen though, which can cause headaches and eye-strain. Almost any other manufacturer switched away from those, but Google is still using the worst display tech possible.
Can we get married please? 😊
Otherwise good informative video.
google is overdoing the AI. that's why i like sony.
huawei has some AI too but theirs is the sweet spot.
can you test something for me with the 8a? if you can can you send me a r eply ?
so what he point of this? 8 price is the same, nothing phone 2a is cheaper
WHY CAN'T GOOGLE PUT OPTICAL ZOOM IN THEIR BASE MODEL AND MIDRANGE SERIES LIKE SAMSUNG DOES??? THIS IS QHY PEOPLE PREFER SAMSUNG MORE!
Battery is pretty poor
After a week of my 7a it started to work me out. The battery went up to 4hrs20 for 50% battery and it's been similar since. 8a can't be that different
How many hour's
As on every pixel phone
Pretty good actually, had mine 2 days now
@@therealsprintMy pixel 8 pro has about 6-7 hours of sot, so it's pretty good
First thing first☕️
"Budget Friendly"
But 1st, 1st comment here 0:41
Pixel is the only Android equilavent of iPhone in terms of overall camera.
like
I've come to the conclusion that Pixel phones will never have the best battery life. They're too smart and it's too much happening in the background. Even on the pro or pro XL with their biggest battery. Simply never going to compare to iPhone pro Max. But they do need to improve it a little.
That battery is terrible lol
3hrs 30 mins... SOT
Truly terrible
I got 6 hours the other day and 50% battery left.
So basically slightly worse than Pixel 8 while costing the same. Doesn't seem like a worthy update 🙂
Hmmm. Video quality sucks
Battery stinks.
hi can you give away one pixel 8a to me ? ..i cant afford ..my monthly income is 100$ .
i want this phone ❤
I just love how these tech reviewers get these Pixel phones when they first release and complain about the battery. Knowing damn well for years that the battery has to optimize your habits. These unnecessary shots at Pixel are getting old guys.
Nah, google pixel has always been notoriously bad at battery life, the pixel 8a's base line battery life is already below its expected average despite being 4500mah
I just love how people try to defend Pixel battery life, despite all evidence to the contrary clearly showing that it just doesn't hold up. It doesn't matter how long it "optimizes", it's alwasy going to be subpar compared to competing devices. The sooner you accept that, the better off you'll be.
The battery life and charging speeds of pixel phones is sub par. So I think he was generous.
@@Gravage First day I had the 8a the batterylife was great. Had 50% battery left and had over 6 hours sot (mostly youtube), but now it seems way worse. I have used it to share internet and that has really eaten its battery.
@@Masked_Animations- wait u consider 6h sot bad?!?!?
coffee ☕check✅
☕✅🙏
Ny 7a is still good for me
pixel 7 remains a better choice with a better price
bad modes with almost none existing 5g gets hot burning battery life sucks
yeah is a pixel lol
