- So the backstory behind this piece, is that it was a short 20 second clip of the intro and first verse and after that my laptop had a Hard Drive failure and I lost everything I had made during 2015. Then in 2019, I began to make it again and this is that same file. However, there's a few more things like, change of melody and added percussion that I thought added some extra flavour.

It was a cold night down at Brendam docks, Edward had asked me to stop by, said it was argent. I arrived late I had been spending time with Daisy up at Ffarquhar. When I arrived on the seen BoCo and his boys had already cleaned up the mess. I took one look at the body and knew it was him, I don't know how they did it but they did, someone finny offed the Fat Controller.
What an incredible tune you have made here. I don't know why, but my mind was thinking 'Inspector Gadget' when I clicked the video. But after hearing this, it works even better. If 'Detective James' ever gets turned into an actual episode, then this music deserves to be put in there 😀👍👏.

This should be James alternative theme. I mean the whole thing is so jazzy with a pop I can imagine him pulling his train while searching for clues. In my opinion Ty this is one of the red engine best theme you've composed. Good Job.
I can already imagine this playing in the BG of an opening in the style of an old detective movie with James narrating. I imagine it would go something like this:

Thomas and Percy were on their branch line. Gordon was on the mainland stayin' the night. Henry was takin' The Flying Kipper. That left the shuntin' to me. Lemme tell ya, I didn't like it ONE bit.
I was just doin' my thing when... she (Rosie) pulled in.
She'd arrived from the States a few years ago and did a lot of shadowin' Thomas around at the time.
Only recently, she got a repaint into red. I still think the lavender looked better, but that's just me.

Man I wish I can give you more likes! This music is so catchy. I always loved James's theme, but man you took that theme up a notch and it genuinely sounds like James is being a detective! I can imagine episode where something went totally wrong and an engine of the fleet gets blamed for it, but James finds the whole thing amiss and decides to go on his own investigation, trying to find clues, hearing witness testimonies, and piecing together the puzzle to solve the mystery before time runs out. It sounds like it would be a fun episode tbh.
Hearing the first few beats and I knew I would like this. Nice job!
It was a case that was to down in the dirty sidings for a splendid red detective like me but this cheeky, fussy blue tank engine was paying me a week's worth of passenger trains for me to find and return his missing coach. Greedy little thing. He's already got my two ex-girls behind him and the one he's looking for doesn't even have a face!
He also claims that an episode had to be cancelled because it was missing. "...too confusing to the audience..." was the words he mentioned when I asked for details. Those words he mentioned. Those words weren't his, I could tell. Those were the of an behind the scenes operator, like Allcroft or her buddy Mitton, but it couldn't be them. They've haven't been in the studios and stations for years. Popular word is they've been chased off of by bigger bosses that take over operations and target folks like my cheeky, blue client put on a profit show for them.
I went around the railway for the usual suspects. The only well-known one with a history of coach abuse, (aside from me of course but that was my rookie days and I had a bad day with my boss...it's in the books...never mind), was that old W & S Atlantic Radial Tank Engine known as Adam. I was on my way to his residence at Brendam when I remembered he took a Final Firing back in '58 when he got a bad case of metal fatigue.
No suspects, a missing coach and a cancelled episode. This case was at a standstill on Gordon's Hill.

This is how amazing this piece is!! I actually was inspired to write a small story after listening to it all the way through the first time!! Never delete this piece!!
This made me chuckle a bit. I liked your idea that Annie and Clarabel apparently used to belong to James (if that is what you were implying) and I wasn't expecting the reference to Stories of Sodor! James isn't going to be able to crack this case easily, if at all.

I like this way more than I should lol; I love everything about it, the jazzy beat, the unique take on the melody, and the instruments used. I can see this being the theme of some 80s noir detective show. You've nailed this one!

Based on this alone I made an episode. These are the headlines:
James is the Sodor Detective, with Philip as his Sidekick. They investigate the case of the missing express coaches, taken by the (to them unknown of course) SCC Twins to Ffarquhar.
I can just imagine James with a Sherlock Holmes hat on.
Then James had a realisation “Ah ha!” He yelled “Percy you did bump those trucks into the sea but it wasn’t on purpose the real cause of that accident was DIESEL!!” Everyone gasped!

detective James: "it was like any other normal day in my office. filling out some paper's, with a smoke in my mouth. when there was a knock on the door. that was when a great western pannier came into my office and i knew it was Duck."

detective James: "what do you want Duck?"
Duck the informer : "I've got a case for you today..."
detective James: "go on?"
Duck the informer : "there was something on the news that got me eye on"
detective James: "what was it?"
Duck the informer: "look *hand's over newspaper from today form jacket.*"

detective James: "*sighs* ok fine.....lets make it quick though!"
Duck the informer: "right..I'll inform Captain Edward right away!"
detective James: "good I'll be making my way to Tidmouth station then good day. *goes to door and Duck follow's him*

captain Edward: "*points over to the other side of the room where we see Thomas pacing around"

Thomas: "nope though two of my new employee's Donald and Douglas were here before my safe was stolen"

Thomas: "once again no..."
detective James: "right.. *walks over to captain edward* Edward can you send some of your police men to look for Donald and Douglas?"
captain Edward: "you got it detective! *walks away to find sergeant Gordon and sergeant Henry*"
detective James" *truns to Thomas* thank you for your time Mr.Thomas"
Thomas: "its nothing really..all i want is my safe back"
detective James: "we'll try our best sir! *walks out of Thomas' Office to his car*"
*scene cuts to detective James walking down the hall when he sees a bullet go through the hall. then he sees Donald and Douglas running and Douglas had Thomas' safe. shortly after Sergeant Gordon and Sergeant Henry and captain Edward running behind firing their gun's at Donald and Douglas*
detective James "*pulls out his gun too and follow's them*
*scene cuts again to a back to back gun firing and detective James hide's behind a hall and shoot's at the two theives and one bullet hit Donald in the leg making him fall to the ground groaning in pain the gun firing soon stopped*
captain Edward: "DOUGLAS PUT YOUR WEAPON DOWN NOW!!"
Douglas: "I WILL ONCE IM DE-"
*detective James shoot's Douglas in the foot making him drop down in pain screaming*
*Sergeant Gordon and Sergeant Henry run up to the two and hand cuff them whilst Captain Edward call's for an ambluance*
Sergeant Gordon: "you have the right to remain silent!"
Sergeant Henry: "anything you say WILL be used against you in the court of law!"
*detective James pant's as he puts away his gun* "well..that was a close call..."
Captain Edward: "indeed...once thoses two are all healed up they'll be going to jail for a good long time"
*detective James then lift's up Thomas' safe and walks back to his office*
*scene cut's to Thomas pacing his office when he hears a knock on his office door and sees Captain Edward and detective James carrying in his safe*
Thomas: "you found it! thank you so much"
*both captain Edward and detective James put the safe down and then Thomas opens up the safe to reveal money and gold bar's*
Thomas: "*picks up two tacks of money* this is for you boy's..thank you so much for giving me back my safe"
captain Edward: "its nothing sir! we were just doing our Job"
detective James: "thank you Mr.Thomas"
Thomas: "you two have a good night now!"
*both Captain Edward and detective James walk out of Thomas' office*
Detective James: "another case solved thanks to detective James! no i need to get back to my office and finish that paper work!"
*episode end's and credit's roll*

This gives me some strong Sonic vibes everytime I hear it, but the specific song that I'm thinking of always escapes me... and it always hits a peak around 0:57 Something about that progression just strikes nostalgia in me.

Honestly feels like a situational theme for say, season 2? James would totally be the one to do some detective work, especially with his splendid personality! Not to mention most of the other characters have had various stories about them doing something they normal hadn’t.
Sounds a little bit like Rock Lobster by the B-52s.

Im imageing an indignation meeting about where Gordon's snow machine is and james stepping out his shed saying "looks like a job for me."

I’m not trying to be mean but a James detective episode sounds like something from the Hit or Miller Era, maybe even BWBA
honestly, I see what you’re saying, but I think it could work tbh. If somebody were to sabotage another engine, and causing them to derail, James could try to be the one to figure the case out first for winnings. I could see it being S3-4 or S18-20. As long as it wouldn’t be over the top with bad humor, then it could work.
