We need to solve the real problem because your treating of the symptom of the deep seated problem is only an interim solution, that most likely will not sustain your chlidren's children. I agree fully with Mark. The South African government is not prepared to deploy or employ capable, experienced and qualified people at the right positions. You have a person who knows nothing about agriculture as a minister of agriculture in national government and in provincial governments. This is the case across South Africa and this is why the country is failing. Parastatals are headed by poorly qualified and corrupt people. The Head of Department of Agriculture in KZN, as an example, is a former municipal manager of a small municipality and knows nothing about agriculture and heading a big structure like that. Capable people are ignored and certain comrades are catapulted to the top where threats rule the game.

I admire the energy and spirit of Mark Barnes, and I agree with him that the country is on the brink of collapse. Unfortunately I think the interview was poorly conducted. The question is not about 100 individuals that have the capacity to save the country, but about hundreds of ideologues that are in government and doing everything they can to prevent this from happening seconded by thousands of opportunists who are extremely happy to benefit from the policies that are in place. There was absolutely no mention of the fact that BEE is proven to be destroying the economy (cf Zondo commission reports). The only solution is to kick the ANC out and get rid of the rot. Mark Barnes thinks that there are people in the ANC that can listen to common sense and save the country. I don't think CR or anyone in the ANC is willing to implement policies that would solve the country's problems because they are stuck in an ideological frame of mind dating from the mid twentieth century and unwilling to change.

Someone who understands nation building, not some guy waving his struggle credentials around thinking that counts, because its actually worthless. The ANC did not want Mr Mark Barnes to turn the Post Office into an E-commerce hub and to integrate the Post Bank to provide basic financial services to the informal sector as he mentioned. Reason being that it would likely have more customers than the Big Commercial Banks which have foreign Ownership (British, Americans, Japanese etc). The ANC serves to protect the interest of foreign Capital at the expense of the development of this country. Moeletsi Mbeki is right this country was designed to serve Foreign interests particularly the British, they have ownership in most strategic industries in this country. Americans as well as others. Our constitution needs to be reviewed because it is not just and perpetuates all kind of injustices. South Africa seems to be imitating the American model of development in which industries ownership is concentrated by a few corporations that own almost everything in the market. That's very parasitic and unsustainable. It is one of the reasons why the American empire (United States of American) is collapsing from within.

Comment from an expat; I am white, a graduate, and owned 2 retail businesses for 18 years in SA. I employed 20 people and the majority were Black. I helped my Black staff with medical care, the education of their children and assorted problems that my White staff never received. When the ANC came to power I was told that Black poverty was all my fault and they taxed me to pay for it. I worked 80 hours weeks and was taxed 80% of my profits. My children, because they were white, were the least likely to be employed.
I was able to move overseas, get better remuneration, pay less tax and have a better life and my children would be employed on merit. I left the country and don't regret doing so. I am now retired but South Africa lost the transfer of skills that I could have passed on to a younger generation. Sad but real and this applies to hundreds of thousands of skilled South Africans who have left and are still leaving.

@pm Clearly you have little knowledge of the history of Southern and Central Africa.
The only genocide that occurred was in the period 1815 - 80 when Shaka came to power and murdered 2.5 million blacks in the central region. This was followed by his successors. Mzilikazi Khumalo, Shaka's Western sector General went renegade by keeping acquired cattle for himself. When Shaka found out Mzilikazi fled with his army to the North of South Africa and after a brush the migrating Boers crossed into Zimbabwe. There he all but eliminated the Shona tribes. If the white settlers hadn't intervened in the 1890's his son Lobengula would have finished the job.
Botswana and Lesotho were created by Shaka causing the South Sotu to flee into the Drakensberg Mountains under Moshesh and the North Sotu to flee into the Kalahari desert that now forms Botswana.
Both Angola and Mozambique were occupied by the Portuguese. Their settlement was very small and confined largely to coastal ports.
The indigenous African population was early iron age nomadic cattle herders. Europeans brought, peace, infrastructure, education and healthcare where there was none before. Punctuated by a war between the Boer Republics and Britain over the mineral resources of central South Africa.
