You have such a wonderful way of describing books 😊 I was talking about your videos to a friend and was like "you know every book that Mollie recommends I feel like I have to read because of how well she articulates her feelings about them". Very happy to be going into the new year watching your wonderful content!! 🙌💕
You had an amazing month. It was already impressive and then you said you read 4 Narnia books! Whoa! I am listening to Deathly Hallows now. It's my first reread but it's been so long and I didn't see this movie so I really don't remember the details. It's soooo good! I read Shadow of the Wind a couple years ago too- before it was popular. But my book memory is really awful. Hearing everyone talk about it this year makes me want to reread it. I do remember that I liked it. I'm reading All the Light right now. As I was reading last night I was thinking it would be great to listen to. I think the vivid way he writes Marie-Lare's sections would be better if I could close my eyes and experience all the senses he's describing. Sorry for the long post!
Happy New Year to you ! :) I'm so happy you enjoyed Harry Potter so much ! I really liked how you spoke about your experience reading it for the first time :) I re read the first two books of the Chronicles of Narnia in december and I've just started the Horse and his boy :) I found that I loved the Magician's Nephnew so mumch more this time around. It was so beautiful ! :)
The Shadow of the Wind was my favorite book of 2016 as well! It was the perfect book, in my opinion, and I love hearing other people talking about loving it! Sweetbitter is a recent acquisition for me and I'm so excited to read it, especially after hearing you speak about it in this video. Great video, Mollie! Happy reading in 2017!
You have me intrigued by all of your top books! I picked up The Shadow of the Wind a few weeks ago and am really excited to start it. I've heard nothing but amazing things!
I got sick and I was having such a bad day, but this video cheered me up, as always. 💗 so thank you for that. Also, I read the Shadow of the Wind around the same time you did and I love it that you're so passionate about it because I love it just as much :)
I so love your videos. I just recently subscribed and I knew right away you will be my go to booktuber. I love your voice, so calm and refreshing... different from tge very perky ones in Booktube. I also appreciate the great reviews you give on books and I really refer to them now.
I really want to read the Harry Potter's too (I never have) but I am afraid I'll be disappointed and it won't live up to the hype! It sounds like you kind of felt the same and really enjoyed them-- you motivate me to start!
If you really want to read them, you will love them. Sounds silly but the only people I know that didn't like them were the ones who had no previous interest and had it forced upon them. It appeals to the masses and is worth your while!
The Shadow of the Wind is on my top 3 of my favorite books of all time. SOOOOOOOO GOOD! Highly recommend it to everyone who is interested in History, the 1930's/40's and just books in general. It is definitely a book for book lovers. Beautifully written.
Also, I don't know if you know about this, Mollie, but there are another 3 books! It's a tetralogy, the second book is called The Angel's Game (SO DARK SO GOOD), the third is The Prisoner of Heaven (More focused on Fermín, very very interesting) and the last one came out last November in Spain, South America and here in Portugal, it's called The Labyrinth of Spirits (literal translation) - currently reading it and loving it!
Joana Moreno I was wondering about that, does Shadow of the Wind feel like a stand alone? Or does it end in a way that you want to keep going? I'm considering it for my book club but we try not to pick series.
OrangeHappyMama Each book can be read individually and in no particular order, Zafón himself says it in the beginning of the last book. When I finished reading Shadow of the Wind I didn't even know there were more books, and I was a bit surprised when I found out because it really does feel like a stand alone! In my opinion, the only book that doesn't seem as much as a stand alone is the third one. The second one is also a full complete story, like the first one. The Shadow of the Wind is honestly so so good. You may think it begins a little slow paced, but the writing is so beautiful that it just keeps you going until you reach the OMG WHAT IS HAPPENING I HAVE TO FINISH THIS BOOK TODAY part. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
Dark Matter was also one of my favorite books! Also, psa, I also never read the Harry Potter series even though I've watched all the movies (obviously) and absolutely love the world and the magic and the characters... I should probably (finally) read it! Sweetbitter and The Shadow of the Wind have been on my radar for so long and I really want to read them as well! It's always lovely watching your videos. Happy 2017! xx
Ahhh I hope you read HP and love it! AND oh man, I can't wait to hear your thoughts on Sweetbitter and the Shadow of the Wind! they're both SO DIFFERENT but so good! Happy 2017 to you too! xx
So many great books Mollie! I definitely want to read Dark Matter this year, and Shadow of the Wind too. Hurray for finishing HP; I'm on the 6th book now and it's a very different experience reading them as an adult for sure.
I already have 3 copies of the Shadow of the Wind but everytime I see that particular cover I have a mighty need! I've heard lots of different things about Dark Matter but I really want to check it out and see for myself. happy new year!
Rather chilly! HA! Now that I know it's 40 degrees where you are I laugh! I mean, j/k. But, I'd trade with you for 40 degree weather any day of the week! ;) And when I reread the Chronicles of Narnia as an adult (which I need to do again SOON), The Horse and His Boy...oh man. I loved it so much! But it's hard for me to pick a favorite book from the series. There is so much wisdom in ALL of them!
I haven't read the Narnia books yet. Since I homeschool my girls I am planning on the 3 of us reading the series together when they get a little older. I am really looking forward to sharing that whole experience with my girls. I love the set of the series you have, it's so pretty.
I just had my brother in law read Dark Matter and he loved it! such a crazy fun thriller. Although I wasn't completely in love with it 😊 I still really enjoyed it! I can't wait to see it in movie form eventually...I feel like it already reads almost like a perfect movie already. I gave a copy of TSOTW to my BIL for Christmas...I'm kind of nervous he's going to hate it. But I'm really excited to hear his thoughts. He's a really big reader 😊 we spend all our family gatherings chatting about books, it's wonderful!
lol, "I'm kind of nervous he's going to hate it," sums up the feeling I have after recommending ANY book that I gush about. I'm like, "Am I the only one obsessed with this book?!" AHHH Dark Matter will be the BEST movie!
I saw one of your vlogs that featured The Shadow of the Wind and placed it on my Christmas wishlist. So, Christmas Day came and went. Unfortunately, I didn't receive it as a gift. The next day, I ran out and purchase it. Thank you for the recommendation. I am looking forward to reading it soon!
I will let you know once I finish reading it ! Are you planning to read the rest of the series for The Cemetery of Forgotten Books? If you are interested, I found another Booktuber "Just Juan Reader" who reviewed the entire series. Also, would you consider making a video on how you annotate (Post-It) your books? I am always curious to see how other readers note their books.
Funny enough my favourite book if 2016 is probably Anna and the French kiss which is probably odd because it's a contemporary and is definitely a book catered for a younger audience but I found the writing fantastic and every character and I mean every single character had their own story, their own personalities and they all had their own purposes and their lives didn't revolve around the protagonist which I loved. And the love story in the novel is very realistic and it's just such a sweet and funny story and I honestly fell in love with each character in that novel, specifically one of the side characters who I think deserves her own novel just saying but honestly it's just so well written that it's honestly my only five star novel of 2016.
Also I literally love watching your videos. This is going to sound weird but not only do you have such a genuine feel to your personality but you also have this odd child like spirit that's not like an annoying child but it's almost like this effervescent ethereal quality and everytime you get excited I'm like !!! ME TOO GIRL. And i just want to buy everything you like because I get so excited!!! Ah sorry if this is weird but it's kind of my long winded way to say you're my favourite booktuber and you seem like a wonderful person!!
Yay you finished Harry Potter and I am so glad you loved it. Totally agree with you that it all comes together and flips what you thought you knew for 6 books. I wish I could have my first time reading it again. You will have to tell me how you manage to get through a reread of the Narnia books I always struggle with Voyage of The Dawn Treader and get stuck and never move on. I loved these stories though when I was a child and really want to finish them as an adult.
lol aw I LOVE Voyage of the Dawn Treader! I can understand why you'd get stuck though. I'm still reading them actually. I still have the Silver Chair and the Last Battle! :)
That's so cool! Didn't know that you're a christian as well!! I need to reread the narnia series, I miss it so much! I also need to read a world without you!
I can totally relate with reading Harry Potter for the first time as an adult. I read them for the first time when I was 24 and I fell in love with them. I got to be completely surprised because I never watched the movies before I read the books either. It's been 2 years now and I'm currently re-reading the series.
BTW, I reread annually and I highly recommend it. I do all 7 books in 7 days, starting on the first snowy day. Some of my friends do the same thing, but start on July 31, harry's birthday.
AHH I did listen to one of the books part of the way on audio.... SO GOOD! Seriously. It's so comforting! I love it! And I LOVE that you start rereading on the first snowy day. That's the perfect tradition!
I'm just reading HP for the first time too :) I've read the first four and my goal was to do one a month but I've decided to take a little break for a few months because I don't want it to end lol. For sure just added Under Rose Tainted Skies to my TBR, sounds really good :)
Everyone is struggling with the cold, it's crazy how the weather is this year. I am interested in reading so many of these! I need to get reading my need to read list is way too long 😭
Hi Mollie - whoop, congrats on finishing HP. I remember the post-HP emptiness. I re-read them quite often almost as a comfort read. WHich was your fave in the series? You have some great videos and are so naturally relaxed in front of the camera. Would you mind if I asked you what lighting and microphone (and camera) setup you use? You got it nailed from your first video. I'm impressed. Best wishes, Kiki
If you want to read a great children's book, that also happens to be JK Rawlings favorite book from her childhood, check out The Little White Horse by Elizabeth Goudge. It's fantastic, and, though not about witches and wizards, had some of the feel of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone about--that finding out that your life is so much more than you thought it was, that you are so much more than you think you are. I found it delightful!
Duuuude it's 22 here today 😭 I can not deal. Also, I definitely want to read Under Rise Tainted Skies and A World Without You now because I'm a glutton for punishment and tears??
LOL story of my life... glutton for punishment and tears. Ya killin me! And yeah, after talking to y'all, esp. Katie and Julie, I was like OKAY I need to suck it up it's not that cold hahahah.
Hi Mollie! I love your book reviews and I actually follow your recommendations - we have a similar taste (may I say you always read my mind?). I had The Shadow of the Wind in my bookcase for a long time (years... oops!) as the first time I started to read it I didn't like it so much... But after you said you loved it I decided to read it again and I must say: I'm hooked and so ashamed (and really don't understand how) I didn't like it before. It's everything you say and more! I'm on the second part of the book and I really want to see how the story unfolds, but I'm trying to make it last because I feel I really will have a deep hole in my heart after I finish it. But my question for you is: did you know there are more books of that series? And are you curious to read them? If so, can we make it an official book club? ;) Thank you for your inspirations, I will always be back for more! Raquel (from Portugal... a world away from you)
I read the whole Chronicles of Narnia a few winters ago, and your video made me re-read my reviews on Goodreads. I had forgotten a lot of details, but now my reviews are reminding me why the books left me with such bad memories. I'm curious on your thoughts about the racism, xenophobia, and sexism in the books. Those things are deal breakers for me and definitely prevented me from enjoying them.
O my gosh, same! I'm just no reading Harry Potter for the first time ever! I finished book 3 yesterday. I just tried starting Dark Matter on audio today and I wasn't a huge fan of the narrator. I tend to like to listen to female narrators which obviously isn't realistic with a male main character lol.
YAYYY! Yeah.... a bad narrator on an audiobook will make or break the story, so that's a bummer! You should pick up the physical version if you can ;).
Mollie Reads It's such a shame too because I can fit so much more in if I can listen to books too. I want to get to it but it's going to take me a while to get through HP and then I need to read Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom. So many books, so little time lol. It'll be about March or April before I get to any other books
I love Chronicles Of Narnia - I am a new Subscriber to your Channel. I really like this Video. I have Subscribed to your Channel. Enjoy your Books - Have A Lovely Day - Happy Reading.
The new knowledge that you too, are a Christian, has made me subscribe and love your videos even more!!! xoxo
Aw thanks, Kathy! :)

Very happy to be going into the new year watching your wonderful content!! 🙌💕
Aw thank you so much Ella! I feel like I just gush the whole time lol. I'm glad you enjoy them though. :) HAPPY 2017!!
With every video, I smile with amazement.
THANKS DAD

Just ordered Shadow of the Wind. Not at all what I normally read but I loved your description of it. Looking forward to it. Great video.
YAAAY I hope you love it! xx

I've heard so many wonderful things about under Rose Tainted Skies, definitely adding it to my wishlist! Really enjoyed this video :)

Added the Name of the Wind to my TBR ... you sold me!
I really want to read the Harry Potter's too (I never have) but I am afraid I'll be disappointed and it won't live up to the hype! It sounds like you kind of felt the same and really enjoyed them-- you motivate me to start!
Chloe B it's wonderful! I re read it as an adult and appreciated the writing and the depth of world building even more than when I read it as a teen.
If you really want to read them, you will love them. Sounds silly but the only people I know that didn't like them were the ones who had no previous interest and had it forced upon them. It appeals to the masses and is worth your while!

OrangeHappyMama always good to help :)
Under Rose-tainted Skies sounds VERY good!
A World Without You was such a hard hitting story. It was raw and real and beautiful.
lol! OH my goodness, Meagan, since I know you loved A World Without You, I really think you'd like Under Rose-Tainted Skies! :)
Dark Matter was also one of my favorite books! Also, psa, I also never read the Harry Potter series even though I've watched all the movies (obviously) and absolutely love the world and the magic and the characters... I just started the audio version of All the Light We Can Not See! I'm already hooked, but it's nice to know the audiobook isn't a bad way to go.
YAY! Oh yeah, I LOVED the audiobook!
I am reading A World Without You because of your last vlog. I am around 3/4 done and I am so happy I picked it up!
So many great books Mollie! I definitely want to read Dark Matter this year, and Shadow of the Wind too. Hurray for finishing HP; I'm on the 6th book now and it's a very different experience reading them as an adult for sure.
Hello Mollie, you really motivated me to read "Under Rose Tainted Skies" and I put it in my wish list :)
I already have 3 copies of the Shadow of the Wind but everytime I see that particular cover I have a mighty need! I've heard lots of different things about Dark Matter but I really want to check it out and see for myself. happy new year!
lol! That sounds like me. Sometimes I hold out on reading a book until I get the cover I love. Can't beat a great cover! HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Mollie Reads Yes exactly! luckily I did give him something that I knew he really wanted for Christmas so SoTW was just extra 😊
I've heard so many things about The Shadow of the Wind!! I should really read it, hearing you talk about it really makes me want to read it!
I read the last HP book for the first time in December as well. I'm glad I took time with the series; I think they'll be fun to reread.
Awesome! We're HP twins, lol. It was such a fun series!
I just love your voice so much
Thanks, Paula!! xx

Hey Renee! Sorry for the delayed response, but this is SO sweet! Thank you so much. You seem like such a wonderful person, too!
Yay you finished Harry Potter and I am so glad you loved it. Totally agree with you that it all comes together and flips what you thought you knew for 6 books. lol aw I LOVE Voyage of the Dawn Treader! I can understand why you'd get stuck though. I'm still reading them actually. I still have the Silver Chair and the Last Battle! :)
My top 5 of 2016 was very similar to yours! Mine was: A Little Life, The Shadow of the Wind, Sweetbitter, Dark Matter, & the Mistborn trilogy!
Oh my gosh I almost put the Final Empire on my list, but I hated that I didn't read the whole trilogy yet! I plan to read Well of Ascension so soon!
I wish I could reread Harry Potter for the first time again. It's such an amazing experience.
That's so cool! Didn't know that you're a christian as well!!
I need to reread the narnia series, I miss it so much! I also need to read a world without you!

That's amazing!! Good to know you're rereading them too. You must have really fallen in love with them. :)
Now that you've read all of HP (an seen the movies I assume?) you should pick up the audiobooks. I think that's my favorite way to consume HP!
BTW, I reread annually and I highly recommend it. I do all 7 books in 7 days, starting on the first snowy day. Some of my friends do the same thing, but start on July 31, harry's birthday.

Where did you get your Narnia books . I am looking for a boxset to read together with my Son , and your bookset looks amazing!
I'm just reading HP for the first time too :) I've read the first four and my goal was to do one a month but I've decided to take a little break for a few months because I don't want it to end lol.
For sure just added Under Rose Tainted Skies to my TBR, sounds really good :)
AHH I hope you're loving it as much as I did
Everyone is struggling with the cold, it's crazy how the weather is this year. I am interested in reading so many of these! I need to get reading my need to read list is way too long 😭
It's so true! It's not TOO terrible in NC though. We just had our first snow of the year and it was barely an inch of ice/slush, lol!
Well done about Harry Potter! I wanna re-read it this year! I'm really excited! Thank you for the recomendations
I just suscribed today (From Chile)

After learning about Quantum Physics I came up with a book idea that is literally the same thing as Dark Matter.
WHOA that is very, very cool. My brain would never work that way!
girl you're so cute and I really like your hair color 😍😘😙❤
Thanks so much! :D!!
I am on book 4 of Harry Potter :)
