Haven't been able to drum in 21 years....but if I could again- your style of teaching, instruction- and showing it, is great. A true TEACHER, who knows HOW to teach.
I've noticed it your other videos that you swung the beat - sounds great
Sounds gorgeous. Thank you Jeff!!
You’re very welcome Martin!
You’re very welcome Martin!
Oh Jeff very sweet. Never occurred to me. Always was thinking spacing the 16ths out more for swung and Not actually leaving out the 16th. Fantastic revelation for me !!
So glad it helped you out Ron.
You can hear that often on songs by Sublime or 311
Absolutely!
This is the bomb! It helps explain a lot of missing links in this area of play. Thank you Jeff....awesome!!!
Amazing video as usual 🤘
Toujours au top!
Merci😀👍
Great approach to the concept. I really liked how you approached the switch back and forth between and straight and swung feel. This is an important concept that isn't always addressed early on in drum instruction. You made a great point however that so many styles of music make use of both feels and thus it is pretty important to be able to play both.
So cool I use swung beats at church
I am subscribed to numerous drum lesson channels. But Jeff, yours is rising up the list awful fast. Great stuff presented clearly and formatted perfectly. Well done. Feeling my grooves getting tight and my sauwse getting right.
Gold!
Another excellent teaching, cheer's again Jeff!
Much appreciated!
Happy to see you demonstrating these techniques. Awesome job as always and thanks so much!!
Thanks as always Charles!
Thanks so much for the awesome lesson Jeff!!!
You're very welcome! Hope it helps you out.
Fundamental important stuff and super clear - THANKS
Big thanks Joel!
Great job mate! Thank you
Absolutely bud! Hope it helped!
Awesome video Jeff! Keep it up
Thanks very much!
One of the best videos describing the difference. Incredible teaching skills as always.
Thanks!
This is really great stuff man. One of the best explanations and lessons I've seen on this topic. Having taught this myself it can be hard to pass it on properly and easily. Great work!!
Thanks very much Chris! It was definitely an intimidating topic to try and unpack. I tried to make it as clear and concise as possible.
So properly explained and also explained so easily 💙 Keep going 🎶
Thanks very much!
Exceptional lesson man
Thanks Ben!
Excellent lesson. I've been trying to learn a half time shuffle, but just not working. Realize I need to just master basic triplet feel. But I've only been playing for a few months, so maybe getting ahead of myself.
Thanks man.
BTW: the production on your sound is excellent . Im listening through high end studio monitors with quality outboard amp. Good over all balance. Kick drum is nicely fat and punchy. Snare sound is killer. I did pro FoH for 10 years. (small time local stuff only, but I know what sounds good) Very polished. Definitely subscribed.
this 5 minutes probably gave me more than hours of watched chops on UA-cam
1. Shuffle vs Swing
2. Straight time vs Half time vs Double time
Please 🙏🙏
Great idea Rohan!
Por favor podrías subtitular en castellano tus grandes lecciones?
Muito bom. Que Deus te abençoe!!
Hi Jeff. Great vulgarisation of a vital part of drumming. Well done.
Niiiiice!!
Thanks Immanuel!
Isn't there a third type though? A straight beat with a 'slightly' swung feel to it?
My favorite groove to swing is the lindy beat.
Ah, kind of an old-school rock and roll style beat? I’m curious, where did you get the term “lindy” beat from? I googled it and just found an old Rich Redmond lesson on it. Not sure if that’s the beat you’re referring to however.
@@JeffRandallDrumming it is indeed! All my loving from the Beatles has a swung lindy beat. I first heard it referenced by chorale director when we sang the American bandstand theme song.
@@theadamblock copy that! I’ve also heard it called the “twist beat” as well.
@@JeffRandallDrumming oh yea! It’s such a great groove. One of my favorites.
Jeff, can you attach PDF sheet, please?
Hey Daniel, are you talking about the “Famous Swung Beats” pdf I mentioned at the end? If so, it’s linked in the description box.
Really interesting.
So "swung" is the english word for this kind of vibe ? I'm asking cause I'm teaching drums in english and that's not my native language.
Also for the record, my (french) teacher used to call it "trinaire", a word which is the mixture of "binary" and "ternary" (basically, in english it would be "trinary")
Swung is a conjugation of "Swing", allusive to swing, which in this case is a feel, a vibe if you will, a little dash of flavor.
@@jamesnikki5 Actually I know all that. My question was just to confirm the term itself to use it during courses. But thanks for your reply anyway
So Rosanna by Toto is swung.
That’s right! It’s using 16th-note triplets.
Man.. there aint no difference in the 2nd example! Wtf
Im playing multiple instruments, including the drums. And I am obviously disabled cause I wasn t able to distinguish both parts even 10 times listening with eyes closed.🥴
