I know this is an older video but thank you for this. I'm the only one where I live that takes the time to bathe the dog and the head always makes me nervous but this was really helpful
Thank you! She is great for tutorials, as she gets groomed weekly. It’s good to get them used to baths and grooming as a normal part of their life. They are more likely to tolerate it or cooperate for it.
Putting soap on their face is easy. How do you rinse the soap off their faceAnd ears? That is what I have trouble doing. My dog won’t let me put water over her eyes, ears or nose.
Sometimes putting shampoo on is easy. We have several dogs that try to bite at the shampoo application, or run away from and dodge the shampoo. So it’s good for us to include these step by step instructions. The video covers rinsing as well. If your pup is resistant to the method we showed, you can take a cup and slowly and gently pour the water from the top of the head. Another option is a soaked towel and squeeze it out on the head and face.
Thank you! She has been getting regular baths since she was a month old. She doesn’t like them, but she’s very good for them. They are not all this still. But this method also works for dogs that move a lot.
Which shampoo do you use. I live in New Zealand and I’m looking for an odourless shampoo for my Labrador. Thanks, great video and a very well behaved beautiful dog
Thank you for the kind words! That is my dog and she is so sweet and a good girl! We use South Barks Blueberry Facial. Here are a few odorless facials you can try: facial by Hydra (Pet Society), Melanie Newman, Best Shot, these are all brands we use. I am not sure if they are carried in New Zealand.
Yes, I do dilute the shampoo. Professional dog shampoos come concentrated, so you have to dilute it. That’s why it is in an applicator bottle. It makes it easier to apply and rinse off.
The orange discoloration is a result of excess proteins in their saliva. You can remove them by shaving that area, giving your dog filtered water, adding probiotics to their diet will help, you can also do a topical whitening treatment such as Eye Envy. There is also a facial called South Barks blueberry facial that will help as well.
Thank you very much! She is from a reputable breeder that began grooming training at 4weeks old. I bathe her once a week, so she knows this is a routine part of life.☺️
When you are looking for a face wash, you want to always make sure that you get a “tearless” shampoo. This will ensure that it does not burn the eyes if the shampoo accidentally gets in the dogs eyes. It is not technically “tearless” as no shampoo is, however, it does not burn like most shampoos would. A few that we like to use are Southbark blueberry facial and Hydra face cleansing shampoo.
As a Groomer, I am used to seeing fleas on dogs. I always start with the head first to create a barrier for the fleas and I am very quick when applying shampoo to the rest of the dog to prevent the fleas from jumping off. I know that once I have all the shampoo applied and I see one, it is most likely paralyzed and cannot jump away. This is why you see me in a calm state when seeing them, because I know it won’t go anywhere. Since my dog gets bathed once a week, I am able to keep on top of any fleas that may get on her. If you are battling them at home, I suggest to spray your backyard with a treatment that kills all stages of fleas, and to get a carpet and upholstery spray that also kills all life stages of fleas. It definitely sucks when you feel like you are having a losing battle with them.
🙏Thank you for the information. This has been a nightmare with 2 elderly and special needs dogs(IVDD & GME) Our 2nd yard and home extermination is Thursday. I think we’ll do one more in 2 weeks and hopefully be done with this🤞
You should do your best to avoid putting water on the dogs nose. Many dogs tend to put their head up while being bathed in a natural reaction to avoid water getting in their nose. If you do put water on their nose there’s a chance of a trickling down their nasal passage and you don’t want that to get into their lungs. Sometimes it’s unavoidable depending on how much the dog is fighting in the bath. Sometimes what you can do is you can pinch the nostrils shut for a second as you rinse over the dogs muzzle. You then release their nose and they will breath in. When they do that pinch the nose closed again and rinse again. This is only recommended for those dogs that are not staying still and just allowing you to rinse around their nose. You should only need to do this once or twice for a good rinse of the shampoo.
@soulreaperYT no, they won’t likely get a fever. They will snort it out. Sometimes it is best to take a hand towel or washcloth soaked in water and squeeze that onto the muzzle area and gently wipe the shampoo off with it. Rinse it and repeat until the shampoo is gone.
how about using tearless shampoo? also even water is irritating to the eyes so if you're gonna wash a face, try not to get shampoo in the eyes. no wonder my dogs hate going to the groomer.
I should add that my dogs are perfect in the bath at home and they are very still and easy on grooming table. they do not like shampoo in their eyes. it also doesn't makes sense to leave the shampoo on the muzzle for more than a moment. why let them lick it if you can rinse it right off? even if it's not toxic, it has to taste bad. this just all wrong, IMO. I hope you can put yourself in the dog's position and make a video of a kinder way to wash faces. please also be srue to immediately rinse shampoo of the vulva/prepuse area since that can cause burning in dogs just as with humans.
As professional groomers, we are very careful when washing dogs eyes and ears. If it was too rough, she would be fighting and biting for the process. If you are squeezing the ear correctly, it most certainly does keep soap and water out. If it did not, dogs would be leaving salons with water and soap in their ears every day.
This is a very gentle product. It is made specifically for dogs sensitive eyes. With that being said, I still would never let shampoo sit on there eyes, just as we would never do that to a baby with baby shampoo, even though it is gentle.
How can you possibly say you didnt get soap in her eyes?? She was completely suds up all over her face! If this is how my groomer washed my dog then I'll groom him myself. This was hard to watch.
When we wash faces, we use tearless shampoo. In the video, I explain how to rinse if you get soap in her eyes. I also show how to wipe her eyes to ensure that there’s no soap in it.
This is how you wash them. The soap is diluted and we do wash the leathers of the ears. When we go to dry them, we wipe and dry the ears with cotton swabs.
It is unfortunate that you did not thoroughly watch and pay attention to the video. Not once did I put shampoo in her eyes. The video clearly shows you how to avoid that. I also show you how to get shampoo off their eyes, should you accidentally get some on their eyes. In addition, since you are unaware, as professionals, we use tearless shampoo.
This dog is so well-behaved! Thanks for this, I’ve always been afraid whenever I wash my dog’s face
I’m glad you found it helpful! It’s good to know the proper way to wash their face!
They get so used to it. They'll put up a little fight at first but 3 years later and I have mine turning "to the left. Ok now to the right" lol

Thx for tip

How dilute is the shampoo? You use a lot so I assume it’s very diluted.
Yes, I do dilute the shampoo. Professional dog shampoos come concentrated, so you have to dilute it. That’s why it is in an applicator bottle. It makes it easier to apply and rinse off.
Most shampoos vary in dilution. They can be anywhere from 8:1 to 50:1.

Intelligent poodles, my toy poodle was same, my yorkshire terrior is good as bathed from 10wks. Good instruction video.

can I wash my dog with just water I'm just a rinse some dirt off until I get dog shampoo
you can wipe those dirt off with warm soaked towel until you get the shampoo.
Yes, absolutely. You can also use wipes until you get a good shampoo.

It is tearless. If you have a dog with longer fur, the shampoo has to be on for more than a moment to wash the fur thoroughly.
The seems really rough on the dog, too much soap and water on his ears and eyes. squeezing the ear does not keep soap and water out

Start by trickling water onto the back of the head or using a soaked washcloth. Speak calmly to them and work slowly.

This dog is saturated with soap and inside ears are wet -
This is how you wash them. The soap is diluted and we do wash the leathers of the ears. When we go to dry them, we wipe and dry the ears with cotton swabs.
You totally put that shampoo in her eyes, put shampoo on your lashes massage it and then open your eyes and see how it feels like.
