Microsoft is not a company that is good with design language. Look at Settings, Microsoft created it starting Windows 8 in 2012, but after 10 years, Redmond still maintains the old Control Panel.

My favorite feature is the ability to sort files alongside folders. Default Windows file explorer functionality separates folders away from files regardless of how you sort. So, if you have a Downloads folder with 1000's of files in there and sort by modified date, like I do, you have to scroll massive distances just to each the most recent files from the most recent folders. And when you're generally using the Downloads folder to unpack archived downloads, you generally want to see those folders right next to the archive you just unpacked.

Files is slow, and it can't even do some simple tasks like drag and dropping files from folder to Mail. So no matter what, they shouldn't copy something, that is literally slower than their Explorer and can do less. This feels like Linux.

    • @roccociccone597
      @roccociccone597 2 роки тому +6

Microsoft haven't changed file explorer so much because it'll break a lot of programs out there, because it is heavily attached to current file explorer. Remaking a new one will definitely cause a huge mess for our fellow developers who rely on backwards compatibility.

It has many most common file management operations assigned to function keys, which are arguably more convenient to work with than key combinations, an ability to integrate with external archiver/viewer software etc.

So many usefull features, and the interface looks pretty great, and it is also working on Windows 10, if someone is curious.
The only thing is a lack (but I think it is only a few users are using it) is ftp/sftp support, like WIndows Explorer can support (ftp only), if you enable it in optional features.
Otherwise, really thank you! I really do love this multitask boosting productivity possibility.
(P.S.: Dunno, if it was the program problem, or my PC was acting strange for whaterver reason, the day when I installed the program, opened it, then was I playing in fullscreen, my PC either froze or totally crashed.
For those who is familliar, my GPU is RX 570).
UPD: Also, Desktop Window Manager, and FIles, in task manager are consuming a lot of CPU resources actually (I have not tickled any detailed information about folders, such as size, so it's uses more of my CPU.)

@@Gosu9765 I didn't even need 10 minutes to find a way to completly crash Files with the only way to get it back is reinstalling or completely resetting the app.
That shouldn't be the case for such an essential app.

I only use Windows for making music nowadays. But this is definitely looking good for someone who spends a lot of time with it. Thanks for sharing! 😊

I was first hesitant to install this app as it would mean I could potentially not come back to default windows explorer and if the app stops getting updates for the new windows updates I may have to suffer going back or have to search for a potentially non existing alternative. How ever by the 5:45 minutes part of the video ur showcase of the app's features convinced me to try it. I love it, so it's ur fault for showing me this wonderous creation if I can't use it in the future and have to endure going back to default explorer...

So far i really like "files".. One thing i'd like to mention though: it kinda feels slow and sluggish.. Might just be that the animations are a bit poorly made but otherwise it's fantastic so far!
It would also have been nice if "files" somehow managed to import folder preferences from explorer (sort mode, group mode, pinned folders, etc.) but i realize this would be quite a hassle to implement..
Edit: Yeeeah, no.. I probably won't be using it long term. Whilst it is beautiful, better organized and has more functionality than explorer, it really is extremely slow most of the time..

The real game changer for me was not tabs (well, tabs are really useful of course), but the dual panes. I was tired to right-click->"Open in a new window" just to move files around!

Not gonna lie but one thing I really like in windows file explorer is the Quick Access column where you can go to recent folders easily, I'd appreciate if that was in Files :)

You'd think windows being called "windows" they'd get something like this right. Glad to have discovered an alternative. We'll see!
