The Epic Heathrow Airport Gold Mine 1985-2013 PART 1

- A video offering a unique timeline of events at Heathrow Airport.
In July 2016 I made the decision to finally digitalize my ageing photos that I took at Heathrow Airport from when I started spotting in 1985 to when I stopped taking pictures in 2013.
The collection was deteriorating and it really was now or never as many of them were clearly showing that the sands of time were wiping them from existence.
As such the quality of the photographs is variable from fair to excellent, in fact some look so vibrant they look like they were taken today.
It has been a painstaking journey bringing these great pictures back to life and I feel they are as good as I can get them.
To further increase that, I have added music to bring an added sense of emotion.
As of June 2017 all the songs on the video are playable worldwide and I am grateful to the artists and copyright holders for allowing me to use their songs. However as the years pass, songs change into the hands of different copyright holders and therefore they may not allow the song(s) to be used. This will mean that the song(s) will become muted, to get around this I have included the name of each song before each section, so you can hum or sing karaoke style! (your choice).
Looking at these pictures fills me with sadness, not only for the many great airlines and airliners that now are long past, but of the many great vantage points Heathrow had to offer plane spotters.
Without any privy to airside access we could dance nose to nose with planes and get so close, even security were our friends in those days and were willing to let us grab a picture up close.
This video will bring back memories for older spotters and will show the younger ones what we once had, when Heathrow really was our playground.
There are too many great moments to highlight here, however one notable inclusion is the Lockerbie Jumbo 'Clipper Maid of the Seas', the two photos of her were taken just a week before the tragedy. Eerily both photos had turned into almost ghost like pictures and appeared to be fading out of existence.
Also featured is the British Midland 'Kegworth' Boeing 737, it was also photographed just a few days before tragedy struck.

Wow. Thank you for putting this together. Used to love watching tridents come over by Hatton Road allotments back 1985 when I was four. Been fascinated with aviation ever since and so glad I grew up with all these great aircraft and liveries. Now replicating most of these in my 1:400 collection.
Thank You , nice PIctures, a lot of Memories
Awasome video I got pictures of aircraft from Heathrow from the 80s went their every 2 weeks to the queens viewing area sometimes on the car park thanks for making this video brings back so memories
Fantastic video. Plane spotting back then was so fun.
Great pictures thanks for sharing
Dave, this was worth waiting for. Absolutely superb journey back in time to Heathrow in the late 1980s, brilliantly put together and love the music! Cannot wait to watch part 2!
Thank you Glyn, I'm glad you enjoyed it and that it brought back so many great times. You'll have tears with the Viscount/Concorde/Tower videos!
Excellent quality pictures. It's quite a surprise to recall that the British Airways 757s were delivered long enough ago to have pre-dated the Landor livery. The 747-200 at 4:45 would make a lovely poster.
Thanks, yes BA 757's arrived in 1983, 18 months before Landor was launched.
Please feel free to share this video, I made at 4 others with photos from this era. I have had to appeal to the copyright holders of the songs to get them back on YT!
Blimey I must have been standing next to you when you took some of these as I have exact ones in my photo collection. 85-89 great days at LHR, and LGW for that matter
Cheers Dean, yes these were the best days! Please feel free to share this video.
Interesting video :) greetings
Thank you, it was a joy bringing these to digital and UA-cam.
And wow! A Tarom Il-18! 😲
LOT and Tarom IL18's were semi regulars (athough rare) but still showed up at LHR into 1990!
That was the email I sent it to,
Anyhow I should be getting the DVDs back tomorrow.
Once I have looked at them I will send them to you...
Some Gatwick,Manchester and Birmingham mixed in but mostly glorious Heathrow...
Wow! The first and second planes I ever flew in...the DC10 and Tristar!
Thanks Gillian, we love those two beautiful Tri-jets!
An Air France Concorde? Presumably a special visit or perhaps a diversion?
AF Concordes used to do special charters to London, those really were great days!
I live in London but my parents are from Bangladesh. To me the Bangladesh plane looks the same which is shameful because its 32years
Until 1989 planes came thats when Planes look better
I loved what LHR was but I hate what it’s becoming. Barely any 747s and absolutely no more tri-jets, a380 has been a failure. So what’s left? 777 and a350s ? No more viewing tower and no where other than Hatton Cross on a good day. Sorry but Heathrow is on its way to being the shittiest airport and it kills me to write it. Aviation is becoming boring, thank god I was born in the early eighties. I feel sorry for the young enthusiasts now.
Thanks for looking at my work, I'm glad it brought back so many great times. I agree entirely with what you write here, as do many do many others. Sadly aviation since about 2014 has really become very boring indeed and that will only increase as the last 747's/A340's are retired. One current highlight are the BA retro's, but that is about it!
