that one , singing overtone when the BD kicks in in combo with the reverb at approx. 2:05 is one of the sweetest sounds on any YT video I've seen. Just bliss.
Picked up the Nuenebar in July always used spring in my Amp and the Strymon Flint presets but the Nuenebar is musical and ethereal with the trails.....
I bought the Neunaber Immerse recently and have been truly blown away by it. The inspiration factor particularly with the "Wet" and "Shim" settings is huge and it actually forces you to play guitar in a different way. Definitely a pedal I'd recommend and it sits really well with my other pedals, and sounds particularly sweet when driven by the TC Electronic Mojo Mojo (a lot of classic overdrive sound for under £50). Thanks to Andertons for sending it through so quickly - and of course to TPS for all the tips and knowledge - my pedal board has never looked or sounded so good :)
Yes, most amps have spring reverb, but not my Fender Champ. :-) I bought the MXR Reverb several months ago based on your demo. I replaced my Boss RV-3 (reverb/delay) with the MXR plus the TC Electronic Flashback mini. The MXR is a fantastic pedal that does job and, yes, I prefer fewer knobs/controls. Thanks for the A-B. Really like this addition to That Pedal Show's lineup.
I have an M300, and a mono wet by neunaber. I used to have a whole crap ton of reverb pedals. But I sold all of them when I got the neun. Great pedal. I recently grabbed the M300 to use as a short verb in the studio, and I use the Neun as a "forever" verb. I love the "pad" setting on the 300. It's comparable to the seraphim, which I owned at one point but had to return due to lack of cash. And that pedal was nearly 400 dollars Canadian. I wanted something that had multiple settings, including a nice shimmer. That's also why I ended up with the 300. Both great pedals. It's really hard to afford gear in Canada right now. Buying a new pedal is like. Making a serious life decision. It's pretty insane. Anyhow. Great video! Take care.
Don't have to wait till friday!Really surprised at MXR! GREAT SOUNDS! Thank you Dan and Mick!In the last couple years, you have helped me grow from middle class average gutiar weekend warrior, to a poor, pedal addicted, better than average guitarist with TONE!!!!
@@brianrollins7275 It's my first reverb pedal, so I can't compare to others, but I love it. There is so much on tap within it, so much shaping and playing around you can do. Every mode is fantastic in different styles. I hope you dig it!!
Neunaber makes some really great stuff. I own the stereo wet reverb and I can never turn it off! It makes everything sound so much better. The immerse looks very cool. I might have to look into that pedal.
Neunaber for me. Just sounds lush, and rich. Please compare lovepedal eternity and Zendrive : ) Thanks for all your efforts, I've learned a lot over the past year or so. Much appreciated
favourite episode of A/B so far, simply because I love ambient stuff. As for the pedals, that's a really tough choice. Both do their own thing really well. I can't say one sound is "better" than the other, because there isn't a definitive "better" sound. Just different. Not better. Not worse. I will say, I love the Pad setting exclusive to the MXR. But the Neunaber has more sound options to it, one of which is a fantastic shimmer option that the MXR doesn't have.
The reverb tank on my Peavey Classic 50 stopped working so i bought the MXR 300 based on what i heard from this fucking awesome show, plugged it into the effects loop, and i couldn't be happier :) Thanks Dan and Mick, your show is inspiring.
The Immerse sound stage is so much larger.. The MXR sounds really good though, a more useful verb I’d say unless you’re an ambient guy. I’ve listened to a few MXR vs RV6, and for me the MXR is a clear winner. Its nice that there are such good options at this price point.
Would love hear you compare the Boss reverb RV-6 with the TC Electronic HOF. Another good A/B would be the Boss FRV-1 reverb vs the actual Fender spring.
Maybe two months ago i was choosing exactly between these two. The Immerse is maybe a bit better sounding. But in the end I got the MXR because you can change all the options with expression pedal as you play. And I love that.
How difficult is it to change what the expression pedal is controlling? Live application example: say I wanted it to control the blend on one song, then control the decay on the next song, Do-able?
That should be managable between songs, less so while you´re playing. You have to bend down, move the pedal down, set the new minimum then max parameters for choosen control - move it up and you should be good to go.
The MXR pedal was really surprising! The guitar seemed present with just the right mix of effect. Thanks for all you do That Pedal Show I really enjoy it.
Thumbs up guys! FYI, i'm loving the new series, it's really great to be able to hear the comparison between those pieces of gear, tkss! And i'm sure this will also help the channel on growing, tks to that crazy youtube algorithm
I was shopping reverb lately and was considering the Immerse Mk2 and the MXR M300. The M300 won simply because I could find one locally. Your comparison gave me confidence that it would sound good and as Dan pointed out, fewer knobs to twiddle. I'm trying to keep things simple and focus on my playing rather than the hardware so less is more. I just got mine, but I've been loving the Epic setting with decay and blend at around 11:30 and tone straight up, single coil strat and fairly clean tones. It's there, it fills out the sound, it's lush, but it's not in your face or becoming the focus of the sound.
Please guys, short phrases, multiple alterations, without fiddling with settings while comparing. Ear has a very short memory span. Thanks for the good work.
Two awesome pedals at the top of the reverb pedal heap for sure, neither is objectively better or worse than the other. That said, I love my Immerse MkII.
The Immerse is awesome. It can sound bigger than anything, but it can also sound much warmer than was heard here with the tone set higher. Bear in mind it also has top notch delay and static detune effects.
That Neunaber sounds so lush! Every time I hear a good sounding reverb I get excited, but the truth is I rarely use it. I have a Digitech Polara on my board which I could probably swap for a Strymon Blue Sky if I can have my Strymon TImelie activate it. But then again, I should probably just get the El Capistan tape delay which also includes a reverb... Hmmm.. all these options.
Very much enjoying this extension to the regular series and an A/B comparison of reverb pedals will always grab my attention. Two very interesting pedals which both have a lot of functionality in a regular stomp form factor. I love living in the 21st century because it's only going to get better when it comes to the tech you can put into these little beauties. Would love to see you A/B compression pedals at some point. I know they're not seen as very sexy bits of kit but a good one will transform your sound overnight.
Both excellent pedals... I am heavily leaning towards the Immerse, as I dig the shimmers, and there seems to be a few more options. I also prefer a stereo pedal in my effects loop. Truly appreciate what you lads bring!
Great video! I play a lot at church and for some slow songs I like to do a lot of thick ambient delay and reverb, I've been using my friends strymon blue sky when I can pry it away from him, lol, our other guitarist has a big sky. I don't have a lot of money to drop on gear, are there any reverb pedals that will do something like I'm looking for without that kind of price tag? I've looked at some ehx stuff, like the cathedral, the hold function seems pretty cool for faux pad, but even that is a bit too much right now. Am I really just not going to find something for $100 or so? I'd like a couple settings to have an always on and then the thick cloud. I've thought about the jhs modded boss reverbs I just haven't gotten to play one. Thanks!
I have a HoF as my "main" reverb when I'm actually going out and playing (the Cathedral is just too big for the board and gig requirements), it's a nice sounding, surprisingly cheap pedal with a ton of options, and it's pretty easy to dial in a nice sound quickly. Toneprint is also a nice feature for getting a cool customized sound as well.
J G I have this but I’m thinking of selling and getting the Immerse. I mean it has shimmer as well so I don’t see a downside. But yeah beautiful pedal. I use it without the shimmer most of the time though.
I've both of these boxes. The Neunaber is excellent & very studio friendly to me, also a little more subtle than the MXR. The MXR is a simpler design & for most ELECTRIC guitarists playing live, a bit more user friendly. Both sonically excellent. The MXR's last mode is called 'PAD' which is their SHIMMER mode, & like the Immerse, calls out the angels. Note: the only downside to the MXR, is it has NO stereo options ~ where as the IMMERSE has both in's & out's for stereo ;) enjoy.
I think there is an internal switch for stereo, and you can go stereo in and out with a splitting cord (my terms might not be right). Can anyone verify that? Think it might have been shown in the guitar world advanced features vid.
You're right, @@brycegoff529. The MXR does stereo if you use TRS split to 2 TS cables. Maybe a little more cumbersome than two regular cables, but certainly not a deal breaker if you have to have stereo.
Thanks for the video guys, like you said both pedals sound great. I'm keen on the 'shimmer' featured on the Neunaber but I do wonder how quickly I'll get bored of that ethereal sound...
Honestly, "more than happy with both" pretty much sums it up. From what I've seen these are two of the nicest reverbs on the market right now and in my opinion they are on the same level. The wet setting on the neunaber sounds amazing, but so do the mod and epic settings on the MXR. It'd be hard to choose between them. (thankfully I'm not in the market for a new reverb pedal!)
This video reminds me of a couple of things I have been pondering lately. I have a 2 amp setup and have been running a TC Electronic Hall of Fame in Stereo at the end of my chain. I have been wondering if it would be worth it to upgrade to a "higher quality" or more expensive Reverb. I also see you are running into two amps in Mono. Do you think there is a benefit to running dual amps in stereo? I use both at all times. I have been considering the Red Panda Context but it is mono. Would I be just as well running a mono reverb into an a/b/y? What about "Daisy Channing" or "piggy backing" amps, Paralell out from 2nd input of amp a into amp b? Sorry about the lengthy, complicated questions. There may be a show idea or two in there.
I think a cool A-B would be the JHS Sweet Tea and the Wampler Dual Fusion! I really like the 2 in 1 OD's because you can get all sorts of cool combinations of sounds. Cheers!
The difference that is more noticeable between the higher end and mass produced is the noise floor and the head room, which really comes out when driven or with modulations; it matters because the reverb is running into the pre amp. Not many good Spring emulations; the Source Audio True Spring is the closest to the real thing. As I understand it, Neunaber invented the modern circuit.
Lawrence Gillespie me too, I love verb but honestly 99% of the time I'm playing live the smallest amount of verb or even slapback sounds the same... with that said, my favorite pedal has been the flint for this application, set to 70s plate and off you go
Good demo, both sounded about even to me for this particular designated settings.. but didn't really explore the full spectrum of capabilities of the Immerse, which is a truly special pedal imo.
Reverb is so damn addictive. I have a TC Arena, a TC T2, an EQD Afterneath, a JRAD Boing... all different, all gorgeous. And now you have me looking at prices for these two...
I kinda get the impression that a lot of the really "big" modes epic/wet etc would be inspirational but always in the same way. You'd naturally wander off into that movie soundtrack territory for scenes where everyone is stoned out of their gourds. All soft focus, sparkles off the water and so on. Not that they aren't lovely sounds in their own right of course but maybe just a bit "niche".
Reverb is probably the n1 effect for me, so I went for a strymon BigSky which is expensive but has a lot of possibilities within one pedal. Having the bigsky there's not many reverb pedals that I feel would give me anything you can't get close to with the Strymon
I would suggest a pedal comparison between the Red Panda Raster and the Earthquaker Devices Rainbow Machine. I feel like it would be hilarious to see what you guys come up with. Could be a lot of fun. They both can be tamed and untamed as well. Cheers!
For a small multi reverb pedal I liked them both. I already own the MXR. Not a bump off the board for one over the other. If I already owned the immerse i'd feel the same way. As an aside, the MXR is power hungry. Won't function properly unless its given adequate juice. I assume the Immerse pedal power requirements are the same or similar? If it requires less power - well then that's worth considering as well.
The Immerse requires 70 mA and can take either 9 or 12 volts. You might want to consider the TC Electronics T2, which has some really nice ambient sounds and also features a Toneprint slot, which means you can beam whatever kind of reverb you want into that slot via your phone . . ..
A tough one they both sound good. I was using a Talisman for an always on reverb...but my new Bluguitar Amp 1...has a faux spring that works fine. I like lots of dry signal because I play in a trio with a lot of dirt. I have 15 OD's lol They are from very light gain to a very very high gain...plus a few fuzz boxes.. I love the wall of sound power chords thing on the chorus of some tunes. I think the Immerse could do that for me.The MXR may cut better but that cut means tight and tight means you usually loose a lot of breadth. My bass player plays a lot of counter point so bass and breadth work very well with our style. We are an Indy alt original material band with a touch of old style progressive metal ...think early Crimson in the mix especially on intro's and bridges .I pull way back on the vocals and try and keep a bit sparse...lots rests.. and space. with cords that punctuate not strum and very linear riffs that bridge the chords.I am hoping for some nice spacious reverb to float that stuff thru. So guys what do you think???
As far as suggestions go... Maybe a transparent OD A/B. I know you've covered quite a bit on overdrives but I've been eager to see how the Greer Amps Lightspeed OD stacks up against similar transparent overdrives. Also, perhaps a tweed OD A/B/C. Wampler vs Lovepedal vs. Authentic Fender Tweed? Thanks for doing what you do, really dig the show.
Correctly stated 'they both sound fantastic'. Comments on more knobs vs fewer knobs is merely scratching the surface. Obviously price, but there is also preset toggle, stereo capability, and availability to be considered. These are not exactly apples to apples pedals. Almost chalks and cheese? (Did I use that right?)
Is it normal that when I have this pedal on, when I turn the other pedals on or off I hear the click sound way louder than when I have de mxr m300 off??
Hey guys. Great a/b. Would you get vastly different sounds going via fx loop vs in the front of the amp? Interested in how the tone would change. Cheers.
I love the way the Lonestar sounds. Why is it never used in any full length videos? Is it worth the extra money over something like a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe of Deluxe Reverb if it will be used mainly as a pedal platform?
God forbid someone put out excellent free content and have the gall to give you the option to contribute and help them continue to give you FREE content.
Hey guys, are you considering a Wampler Bravado demo in the near future? From what I've seen it really does make pedals have a seriously new and unique voice of their own. More so than many "pedal friendly" amps I've heard in the past. Doing a comparison video of it and some other pedal platforms would be really informative and interesting to see how each pedal colored the different circuits. Cheers!
+Venus Armata We don't really understand the 'pedal platform' thing. Classic amps are brilliant pedal platforms. We're looking forward to hearing it though, of course.
Interesting outlook! I do see exactly what you mean by that since any amp will make a pedal sound different and when set clean/on the edge of break up. I think there are definitely some amps which as fellow proud pedal addicts are not as likely to be the ones we prefer, that were made with the intention of providing the user with the tone they desire without a large chain of pedals like say a 5150. That being said there are also amps that were voiced with much higher head room and potentially designed with the thought that the user desired to use the amp most frequently with a lot of gain/drive from pedals like the Lonestar which I've heard some unbelievable pedal based tones from.
I think both are nice, but I have a feeling that the Neunaber kind of scoops your tone a bit to get a bit more shimmer in. Perhaps that also explains why the BD-2 couldn't push the sound to drive hard enough like the MXR does. Just a feeling, maybe someone with better ears can chime in (oooo pun). I think the Neunaber for clean and MXR for the dirt - especially with that BD-2W.
Any chance you guys could A/B the Diamond Tremolo and the Cusack Tap a Whirl? I cant try either of these locally. I've heard the Diamond has more organic triangle and sharkfin waves, whereas the Cusack has a few more features and sounds nearly as good?
I've been A/B'ing my new D&M drive vs my old Menatone Fish Factory (Red Snapper + Blue Collar). Both sit on my board. Both do similar things - but both are also very different. Thinking I need a bigger board :)
they are both really nice pedals couldn't fault either, as well as the o/d pedal could have done with a compressor more for the strat, excellent accompaniment to your Friday show

Immerse was better for clean tones, MXR sounded harsh, but when the OD was cranked, the MXR sounded clearer.
Wonderful playing!!!! Wow, especially when you use that tremolo arm on that Grestch!!!!
MXR ftw, they have been releasing some really great stuff these last few years
immerse seems to have more acoustic meat to it. are you running the mxr in mono or stereo?
I give the Immerse the edge, not just in sound but the stereo in and outs are great.
Dennis Mccann I know this was six months ago and if you know by now but: mxr is stereo too. You need a y cable in the output to access that though.
Would love to see you guys do a comparison of Kingsley stuff to standard analog type pedals. Like a Page vs. a Timmy or something like that?
Which one is the best for someone with a case of option paralysis?
+Jack Simmons Neither. Your amp reverb!
That Pedal Show One knob that does the job, fair enough ;)
Neither. The Blue Sky!
+chaz32 Good shout.
The EHX Holy Grail is a single knob reverb and sounds great, to my ears at least
Cheers!
How about an AB video of Whirlwind Orange Box vs MXR 74 Vintage Phase 90 (CSP026)?
Neunaber with the Strat; MXR with the Gretsch was best to my ear. The Neunaber and the BD2 together was great, too!
I'm amazed at how popular reverb pedals are. Very useful if you're not always playing in boomy halls. These both sound fine to me.
Cheers!
You didn't get into the pad setting on the MXR, does the Immerse have something similar? This may be a major selling point for some.
You might want to consider the TC Electronics T2, which has some really nice ambient sounds and also features a Toneprint slot, which means you can beam whatever kind of reverb you want into that slot via your phone . . ..
Hey Dan, Mick, which of those two reverbs do you guys prefer for crunch rock n roll and distortion?
A tough one they both sound good. I was using a Talisman for an always on reverb...but my new Bluguitar Amp 1...has a faux spring that works fine. I like lots of dry signal because I play in a trio with a lot of dirt. I have 15 OD's lol
They are from very light gain to a very very high gain...plus a few fuzz boxes..
Thanks for doing what you do, really dig the show.
hey :) what are these cables? they seem pretty convenient :)
2 great pedals but I chose the immerse. I preferred the control layout. Simple as that.
Both sound great! Love those Mesa Lonestar's!
Not an a/b shout, but any chance of doing an episode, sorely on the Origin effects Cali 76CD ?
Correctly stated 'they both sound fantastic'. Comments on more knobs vs fewer knobs is merely scratching the surface. Obviously price, but there is also preset toggle, stereo capability, and availability to be considered. These are not exactly apples to apples pedals. Almost chalks and cheese? (Did I use that right?)
Is it normal that when I have this pedal on, when I turn the other pedals on or off I hear the click sound way louder than when I have de mxr m300 off??
I'm talking about the mxr
This is weird..I was just thinking today that you guys should make a demo of the Neunaber..and you did!! :-O
Hey guys.
Great vid, how about an A/B of a wazacraft blues driver vs. standard blues driver? Have you already done something like that in another vid?
Nice and short, no begging for money. A great video. First say I preferred the mxr which surprised me
+Neal Fron Do you mean the crowdfunding/Patreon thing in terms of 'begging' for money?
No, the buying of the t-shirts is what I am referring to
+Neal Fron How would you suggest we fund making the show?
God forbid someone put out excellent free content and have the gall to give you the option to contribute and help them continue to give you FREE content.
Both pedals Sound Great!
+Venus Armata Yep, Dan and I tend to use headroomy, single channel amps for that exact reason... And the Lone Star!
Venus Armata I think the coolest feature of the Bravado is the tube powered effects loop, Wampler is really has some potential with that design
The Wampler Bravado has a Friedman designed MOSFET buffered effects loop.
Hi, I have a question, is the MXR made in USA o Taiwán? I have it, the manual sais USA, the box sais Taiwán...
Any chance you guys could A/B the Diamond Tremolo and the Cusack Tap a Whirl? I cant try either of these locally. I've heard the Diamond has more organic triangle and sharkfin waves, whereas the Cusack has a few more features and sounds nearly as good?
Hey guys, thanks for another great video. Would you mind A-B-ing the Keeley Compressor Pro against the Origin Cali76 Compact Deluxe?
I've been A/B'ing my new D&M drive vs my old Menatone Fish Factory (Red Snapper + Blue Collar). Both sit on my board. Both do similar things - but both are also very different. Thinking I need a bigger board :)
+Steven Dobias Always need a bigger board! ;0)
they are both really nice pedals couldn't fault either, as well as the o/d pedal could have done with a compressor more for the strat, excellent accompaniment to your Friday show
Hello guys and greetings from Roma!
Would you mind having a focus about the mesa boogie pedals? I just bought a throttle box and would like to know your opinions :)
Happy new year from an italian fan!
Daniele
+Daniele Romano Hi Daniele, our greetings to you and all of Italy! I received the Boogie pedals for Guitarist mag a few years back and remember liking them a whole lot. We don't own any of them, but a few people have asked, so maybe we can acquire or borrow some.... thanks for watching!
