Same man lol. I just got my 2020 tr29 race on like June 8th and have taken it out to the mountain once on a 2 day trip. 🙄 Talked to Commencal right before I ordered on like May 29th and then again on June 2nd and asked them if I should've maybe gone with the meta AM for a little extra travel. Dude told me just bump rear shock stroke up 5 mils to get to 140 mil travel and I could upgrade my pike ultimate fork to 160 mil with a $42 debonair air spring. He didn't tell me that if I just waited a few weeks I could pre order a 2021 with all of that and new geo 🤦♂️
With the trend for enduro bikes going to 160+ mm rear travel it would be cool to see a comparison of some of the “mini-duro”/all mountain bikes like this, ripmo, sight, instinct bc, gg smash, Jeffsy and others
Just Ordered a Commencal tr 2021 signature, super excited. This is my second Commencal, excellent solid bikes, much better value for the other brands around. This is a company only focused on Mtb, they have a racing team that often is on top of the podium, they know their stuff. I am rather spending money on a smaller company like this one much more specialised instead these big expensive brands around.
Mini-Enduro is definetly a thing. These bikes ar truly great and you can do whatever you want with them. I have a RM Instinct with 140mm at back and a 160 fox 36 front. Best bike I ever ridden hands down!
I love the design of the tr, but I want the wheels of the clash. I know I can run 27.5” on the tr, but a bikes geometry is built around it’s wheel size, so I don’t think it’s worth buying a new bike to change it’s intended feel on the trails
Transition scout or the new ibis? Depends on the price range tho. Kona also makes a 27,5 trail bike, so does Canyon in fact. I dont think these are inherently worse than Commencal is.
I’m the same way. I wore some thin pants on a jump trail using a 29er. On top of that I had some knobby tires. I leaned too far back on a landing and felt like I put my testicles through a grinder
For anyone interested i test rode the Ripmo V2 and the 2021 Commencal Meta TR Race. I found the Ripmo to be better in almost every way. The Commencal was heavy, the rear triangle constantly got in the way, it wasn't very maneuverable, and the pedaling efficiency was just average. Overall I was quite disappointed. I ordered the Ripmo :)
I'm in the same boat. $3200 for a base Ripmo AF with a better fork and better shock, better brakes and you can get it from an LBS vs a $3300 meta tr 29 essential.
I've risen the same bike, but the 27.5 was a medium and the 29er was a small and the 27.5 was so mush better for me bit I am a small rider. I like the feeling of having a flickable bike.
According to the website each frame size has a different dropper travel. 125 mm on S, 150 mm on M, 175 mm on L, 200 mm on XL. Unfortunately they all have press fit bottom brackets.
Looks like the perfect bike to me. I've been torn between the Norco Sight and Norco Optic. I want something fun and "poppy" ,but was worried the Optic didnt have enough rear travel, I'm not the smoothest rider. This sits right in the middle.
wouldn't be surprised if Commencal came out with a shorter lighter trail bike like the YT izzo, trek fuel, Santacruz tallboy et others pretty soon , fairly massive gap in their lineup
Doesn’t seem as if this will ever happen. A lot of promises are made that shouldn’t be. Bike magazine also said they’de give a long term review and still haven’t.
They may not know how to build light bikes, but considering their reputation, Commencal keeps impressing me year after year. I just wish prices were similar to what theyve been a couple years ago...
Those geo numbers were very much needed for this bike. The last incarnations of this put me off for fairly conservative numbers, it's now right up there.
@pinkbike the small versionversion is 33ib according to the website....does this bike weight a tonne as I would need an XL and am worried it would be anchor! Other than that it looks like my ideal bike!
XT two pots? Have fun with the arm pump. Should have just gone for the Deore MT520 4 pistons all around and be done with it. Could have easily kept the same price point.
This or a nukeproof reactor with 150mm in front. For 95% of the time, I really don't miss my 165-180mm GT Sanction. These "trail" bikes have become so capable, it is barely believable the performance lvl on offer.
eugenux I got put off Nukeproof after a demo on the Mega and was really disappointed with it. I’ll have to see if I can find a reactor to try with an open mind.
@@LooneyTune666 actually, the mega did not impress me in either of its iterations. Since 4 years, I kept trying the respective model year and not one of them moved me in any way. This reactor is something elese. That is why I have build myself one. When landing from small to medium jumps(kickers, drops), the back feels a little of of spoof but for rock and roots, I think(I feel) I am as fast or faster than my previous 180-165mm 27.5. It feels unshakable. Probably commencal could not stay behind so they rapidly launched this new meta tr, which looks like a bike in the same mold as my reactor, only bigger in mm for suspension travel, reach and WB. Basically, they made it more enduro. I'm quite happy with my set-up of 150-130 but, if you feel you need more, this could be an option. Also, I have tested for 1 week the 150-140 orbea occam. It was lighter(14 kgs of wonderfully designed carbon vs my custom build 15.3 kgs alu(15.3 kgs with pretty light parts, that is)) and more pedaly but not quite the smasher feel that the reactor gives. So..in this 130-160mm travel, plenty of option exists; you just need to decide what is important for you from riding perspective.
Hey man I just got one of these the other day with full fox set up it is amazing I took it up whistler bike lark and and shred eveything I was looking T the intense but for the money this is much better.
Is mini-enduro a thing? The Evil Offering can be had with a 160 Lyrik, is 140 rear, decently long reach and wheelbase, etc. Sounds similar, and yes it's a great way to have it all. Still fine on long XC ride though no uphill records will be set. But you can still get down a double black without feeling like you're gonna die. And doesn't suck on jump lines either.
Dude has everyone forgot about 27.5???? I feel like everyone who doesn't race should be on them (unless they're really tall), they're so much more fun.
I wonder what the frame weight is. The old 27.5ers weren't exactly lightweight. And sticking an F36 on the front will further increase weight. I think this beast is stretching the trail bike category somewhat.
How long did it take you to climb to the top of Double Down? That is one of my favorite trails. It is fun watching you fly down it. It is a bummer that Cleator road is washed out preventing shuttling.
I have been looking into this bike since my LBS recommended it last week. Looks nice and has great value. Any thoughts of doing an update since the 2022 models are out and it seems like some of the recommendations have been implemented? Would like to see what Pinkbike has to say about the new updates, especially on the Meta TR Race.
@@bulbobu The 2022 model offers a flip chip to adjust the geometry, the brakes are 4 piston TRP DH-R Evo's, and the bike also got a kinematic adjustment. All great changes which makes the 2022 model even better.
@@mtbohana interesting. Components aside and just focusing on the frameset: I was aware flip chip was added if you want a high position. What does the kinematic adjustment mean? Commencal USA told me the frames are identical.

Looks like March 2021 from whats on there site now,
As of October 14th it's now April 2021. It's as if several of the bike companies didn't estimate the demand.
Would also love an updated “long term” review. Mine’s coming in November too. Just got an email, it’s been pushed to end of Jan 2021 😢
