I'm definitely in GAS recovery. Occasionally I fall off the wagon - most recently when I bought another car I seriously don't have any room for. I now have more cars than bikes...
Same, I watch every review, even though I have no immediate plans to replace my Ripmo and already know what my next bike is probably going to be (RM Altitude).
Commencal may not like this but I took my meta tr and bought the sx linkage, 27.5 rear wheel, 170mm fox 36 air spring, and 230x65 rear shock. Put it all on the tr and the geo came out identical to the sx but I kept the shorter chainstay length that the tr comes with.
I thought about putting a 230x65 and a 27.5 wheel on my TR before the SX ever came out. I never did it though. After some measurements, it looked like the chainstay would hit the cranks on top out. I'm guessing it doesn't do that with the newer rocker and clevis? Maybe you can DM me on my Insta and send some pics? I'd love to see some close ups of your mod. I love my bike, but some more travel would really help at bike parks.
I bought the team model recently and the brakes were TRP (awesome) and no matchmaker for the dropper. I think it climbs great, traction for days. And descends like a beast. I find it to be really nimble through the corners as well. The trails here in Aus are probably a bit more wide open but really rate it. For the flatter terrain adjust the geo to the high setting and it performs really well. The only gripe I had with the longer chainstay was it took more effort to try and get it up for a wheelie. Great bike Commencal
Did i miss it or were there no geometry and size numbers in the review? Would be nice to have those so it is easier to follow your thoughts on the length, handling etc of the bike :)

I am 1.87m (6"1) and found the XL to be a bit too big. I would definitely advice to size down if you are between sizes or on the lower end of a bigger size. Same goes for the Meta HT imho
The bike industry has been sizing up for the last 5 years. Testers can then feel the bikes are very big. Maybe just size a bit down when you choose the bike and it's not a problem any more? This seems to be a review of a size of the bike rather than of the bike itself.
Yeah, I demoed this bike back in May and opted to size down when I looked at the spec sheet, and it didn't feel like a barge at all. The size M is also roughly the same reach and riding position as my current bike so felt almost familiar. Definitely consider sizing down on this bike if you're interested in it.
That makes sense. A while back I remember them saying they get the bike size recommended by the manufacturer for their height. So basically, if that is out of whack, the review will suffer. They think that is reasonable since that is how many consumers will shop.
@@devinbyrnes8058 Still, when the review mostly focuses on size, you know something is off. Pros have also begun to size down (actually they just keep the reach numbers they prefer while manufacturers put an M on a previous L). Look at Richie Rudes Yeti size M even though he is 182. He is firmly in L if you look on their size chart.
@@TeamCykelhold I agree with you 100%. I sized down because the new bike I bought in L was almost exactly the same géo as the previous years M. However, if Pinkbike is going to cater to newer riders, who often buy based on companies sizing charts, then this is fair. Pinkbike is getting in the bike size the manufacturer said you fit them. Don’t blame Pinkbike if the manufacturer has a trash size recommendation.
@@devinbyrnes8058 Yeah it makes sense that pinkbike test the bike they get recommended size - absolutely! But why not talk about the elephant in the room then? I can't really use a review that focuses on size for anything - that's my problem with this review. I have no idea if the bike is good or not.
It's funny that the full suspension meta is literally 180° away from The Meta hardtail. It’d be interesting to see the current crop of enduro bikes compared to some from the 2020 field test. I think bringing the Specialized Enduro in as it hasn’t changed much since would be interesting, as well as giving the 2020 GT Force 29 another go, seeing as the expert model is rocking SRAM Code R’s instead of G2 RSC’s, a Fox Performance 38 and a Performance Elite DPX2 instead of the performance elite x2 and 36 of the old pro model. I feel like it would stack up more favorably than it did in 2020. Also it would be interesting to see how a $3800 bike like the Force Expert would stack up against something like that Santa Cruz Megatower.
I wonder about that rebound tune. Kazimer is built like Skeletor's face so it makes sense but I think it would be a different story with the spring rate set for a heavier rider.
I'm 250lbs and demoed one back in May. I felt like the fork and shock tuning were about spot on for a heavier rider. The demo crew didn't add any tokens or anything for me, just set sag for my weight and added a little HSC. The demo bike I rode had the exact same fork and shock as their tester

My meta sx team came with a clamp for the dropper remote whereas the shifter came with matchmaker. Regarding the hub of the dropper…. Size L comes with a 170 mm dropper. But me with 1,86m would easily prefer a 200mm or even bigger. I think they choose the length of the dropper so that it fits smaller drivers perfectly. Taller drivers have to pull the dropper out. Would be difficult the other way around …to fit a smaller driver on dropper, which is too big.
Im very happy to have the sx frame now but i have the old dropper 150mm from my Meta ht and i used painter tape for now to ride. Whats the ideal size lenght for a dropper for me? Im 187cm and rode an xl frame, ihad a 170mm dropper in my basket did i need more? Greetings, cool video!
Hey what's up y'all. Anybody here that came from riding a meta ht and went for the meta sx? Is the sizing comparable or did you change the frame size? Riding the meta ht in Xl with a height of 190cm atm.
36 lbs is the same as Pivots latest ebike. I know it’s not a 🍎to🍎 comparison but one makes you ride farther…and I also don’t like integrated levers, I’m considering “unupgrading” on my Stumpy
Commencal are top bikes for price thats what makes them top teir if you put it in comparison for what you get at the price... ill always be a commencal rider and alloy is just the easier choice for the hard rider that could dent a frame and just laugh it off
That would be interesting, the Reign has a reputation for being a barge, but so does the Meta AM/SX. I felt the Meta SX was fairly agile when I demoed it, but I'm also a bigger rider who has no problem throwing a heavy bike around and I also opted to size down which was definitely a good call.
Let's face it: with the SX Commencal tried to fix what was wrong with the 2021 Meta AM (which I own): Reach too long + chainstays too short = unbalanced bike with an awkward rear orientated rider position that really takes some getting used to and an active riding style. So they shortened the front, made the rear longer and slapped a 27.5 on, because it's trendy. If it had a 29er in the back, it would probably be what the AM should have from the beginning.
I am between sizes on this bike, I am 5”10 and went with a large in the commencal ht from last year and love it, the bike feels perfect and I definitely don’t feel like it’s big or heavy, would it be advisable to go with a large in the meta sx to as it’s such a long bike or go down to a medium? Any help appreciated, thanks!
I have just ordered a Medium SX, I am also 5'10. I had the chance to hop on a Large SX and it felt a bit too big too be honest (really long). I came from a medium Meta AM 2019 and I really liked the fit so that's maybe why. I talked to commencal about the sizing and that's what they recommended for me (size M). You could also search up in forums online where they talk about sizing. Hope this helps!
check out out the reach and stack measurements, those two are the ones which tell the most how the bike will feel when you're in stood up position. Compare vs. other bikes (in two sizes for each) to get an idea of whether this bike is long/short/just-right for you (if you do want a fast answer: I'm 182cm and very likely going for a meta sx size m. I could choose M or L, going for M since with the current trends, oversized M means M-L)
Go Medium 100% I fit large on their sizes but a buddy of mine has a large and he’s 6”2 I’m 5”11 the large was way too big. I was also extremely careful with sizing cause I made mistake with buying a large yeti. Please remember and you can go back and check, but the large bikes from 2019 and before are now mediums, and 2019 XL are now larges. Go and look at the geometry. You’ll see a 2022 large has the same reach numbers as a 2019 large. I don’t get the long reach numbers, it can put you in such a bad riding position where you could lose out on having great control and maneuverability. Like I said I’m 5”11 went with a medium and feels absolutely amazing however, it was still a tad big long but I put a 32mm stem and my position alone on the bike is something I never knew could make such an impact on how I rode
Thanks for the feedback guys! Waiting on a reply from commencal to see if it’s to late to change the size (gonna be a long wait till Monday) either way I really appreciated the help from you all
I picked one up recently and before I did I talked with the guys at Commencal on the phone. He said he and another guy there were both 5'10 and was going to go with mediums. At 5'9 my medium fits nicely!
I know you guys love 29ers so why not take a look at British brand BIRD and their do it all alloy AM9. Be good to see some British brands for a change.
Everything functions properly ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Nothing was damaged in the box aside from a decal on the fork. The decal was missing a piece of a corner but I ended up peeling them off anyways. Assembly is easy BUT make sure you tune up the derailleurs. Both the front and rear need adjusting. I'd advise going to a bike shop but I opted out and put in 10+ hours with the help of UA-cam. Ended up fraying a shifter cable but all in all I learned from the experience. The Brakes work well but the front caliper needs adjusting or at least mine did because the rotor was rubbing against the pads. Make sure you swap out the seat, grips, and pedals. For the short run you'll be fine though. I've read that this bike isn't built yet for hard trails but I just need it for the city. PA has some of the worst roads and being in a mountain this was a great choice. Worth the investment!
can't confirm that. I rode my Meta SX and the AM of a friend in comparision for a few Laps. I could definetly feel a difference in the agility and liveliness of the bike, espacially in tight turns. On straigth chunky stuff the AM felt a bit more stable, but not by much. When it comes to jumps the SX was way more fun, espiacially on steep Lips. It had a way more natural feel in the air then the AM.
So my bike took 6 months to arrive [ delay of 3 months] frame came dented and faulty brakes. I then bought a vitus, took 3 weeks to arrive and was perfect out of the box. Conclusion. Commencal sucks. And also the bike is as heavy as an ebike so.... vitus for my next bike
It's a Commencal, marginal climber, great on the downs, good bang for buck, sized HUGE (definitely one to consider sizing down on). They all pretty much ride the same. If you're a park rat or shuttle bro you'll love it, if most of your trails involve techy singletrack climbs look elsewhere.

And yet people pay 10k+ for seasons tickets to watch sports. 5800 for something you can use and resell is nothing. Road bikes are 6k. Everything just costs more these days
After trying it on a bike park I'm not impressed by it. Twice the price of the Yt Capra comp 2 and less performing. Plus commencals come assembled half-assed from factory. My Ht came without the shifter adjusted, when I assembled it and took it for a spin trying the gears the chain fell on the tallest gear and scratched the paint on the frame....
Beautiful bike, but these prices are asinine, and people have become numb to it. It's not even carbon fiber, has no e motor, and is still almost 6 GRAND. Ridiculous. Just as one example, you can buy a brand new Honda CRF300L, which has infinitely more parts, development, and assembly costs, for $5350.

So previous meta had too short CS and now it’s too long?
Commencal are top bikes for price thats what makes them top teir if you put it in comparison for what you get at the price... ill always be a commencal rider and alloy is just the easier choice for the hard rider that could dent a frame and just laugh it off
Alicia at 12:41, Boss Goddess!
So what's the Geo Specs?
What size
Hey bro, we both have a common enemy
Could you guys get to the contra already
I've been looking at this for my next bike. Currently on a Reign SX, do you have my experience to compare the agility of these two?
Compare vs. other bikes (in two sizes for each) to get an idea of whether this bike is long/short/just-right for you
(if you do want a fast answer: I'm 182cm and very likely going for a meta sx size m.
Sounds like what you’d expect from a Commencal honestly.
Mullet... with a long chainstay... what's the point?
I ride the meta sx since may and i feel it’s pretty similar to the meta am 2020
Also the down tube is very weak. I dented two frames on the pick-up
Good to know, ironically in Colorado, where Commencal's US HQ is located flying rocks hitting your downtube is a common problem on many of our trails
just commencal things, they end up cracking or bending/denting
@@MrSupermugen My Meta HT has been a tank, no issues after 2.5 seasons and many miles
you guys should have Alicia present more videos.
Where are the Friday fails? )
Hello is there someone tall riding this bike!!???? I'm thinking to buy it( 29") but not shore is it big enough for me I'm 205 cm tall
You guys added the new guy full time. She should be full.too
Everything functions properly ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Nothing was damaged in the box aside from a decal on the fork.
Ok Ok I have a Meta and that stuff ... WHERE IS MY 236 FRIDAY FAILS? Who fail to upload? I need my dosis ... 🤔
Sounds like you may as well get the normal 29er meta then
Was thinking the same , unless of course you’re short.
can't confirm that.
Or size down so it's sized more like what you would ride in other bikes.
I have the 2021 Meta AM and The 2022 Meta SX and the SX feels way more lively and way easier to get through the turns.
Im 5’9 and im coming from bmx, a size small realy atract me. Is there any riders 5’9 riding small ? Thanks
Look up dangerous dave on youtube. I'm pretty sure he is your height and rides a small. He made a bike review on his channel.
I would love to see enduro bikes with 27,5.
Where the fucks Friday fails I love that shit
Where is the grim donut?
Kinda sad to see only one alloy bike in the test. Judging from what I see at the trails and bike park, this test should be 50% carbon 50% alloy.
Poor people reviews are over, so begins the soul crushing pricing
So my bike took 6 months to arrive [ delay of 3 months] frame came dented and faulty brakes. I then bought a vitus, took 3 weeks to arrive and was perfect out of the box. Conclusion. Commencal sucks. And also the bike is as heavy as an ebike so.... vitus for my next bike
I mean most bikes that are a size or 2 too big for the tester will be good at straight line speed.
But the real question:
Is it pronounced Comm-en-sawl or Com-men-sul
Already know this isn’t a winner by how enthusiastic they are 😬
It's a Commencal, marginal climber, great on the downs, good bang for buck, sized HUGE (definitely one to consider sizing down on). They all pretty much ride the same. If you're a park rat or shuttle bro you'll love it, if most of your trails involve techy singletrack climbs look elsewhere.
Defo curbing their enthusiasm

Is it just me, or does it seem like an alloy direct to consumer bike at over 5k, seem expensive?
Where is Friday fails?
Only 5800usd?!??!? Mtb is becoming a dentist sport.
Agreed.. crazy the price's this Yr...Everyone seams to be jumping on the let's shaft the public for every penny we can. Regular bikes are getting as expensive as the E bikes
@@Paulmtb the megatower is 2k more than my repeater.....
And yet people pay 10k+ for seasons tickets to watch sports. 5800 for something you can use and resell is nothing. Road bikes are 6k. Everything just costs more these days
@@thicccboyztv Sadly most people don't earn more
Wait to you see the prices of the other bikes. $5800 is a deal.
They didn't say anything about the flip chip...
I think the bike was big for her !…
This bike is a monster truck that looks like a Ferrari.
where is my friday fails dosis???
You guys ride too large bikes
Sounds lile a downhill bike...
pOSITIVE cOMMENT!!
This bike is too long in the back, you can tell in the video when they going down. Sorry but I think the Patrol is a better option.
The Commencal is a tank that's meant to go on nothing but dh runs. It's not a true Enduro bike. It's ad agile as a turtle.
Beautiful bike, but these prices are asinine, and people have become numb to it. It's not even carbon fiber, has no e motor, and is still almost 6 GRAND. Ridiculous. Just as one example, you can buy a brand new Honda CRF300L, which has infinitely more parts, development, and assembly costs, for $5350.
yeah but are you riding a motorcycle on your mtb trails and bike park
@@LastAphelion Well that's not related in any way to me stating the obvious - that mountain bikes (*bicycles*) are way overpriced. But if the industry fleecing continues, I might as well switch to dirt bikes and hit the bike parks lol. Won't even need the lift...can just ride the trails & jump lines and send it both directions
The commencal has the same specs as the bike the pro's race. If you'd buy the same dirtbike that pro's use you'd be in the ten thousands. A better comparison would be a 1k bike vs a 5k motorcycle.
@@exactpeak5995 The bike in this review has an Al frame, a GX derailleur, a dropper they all hated, and weighs 36 lbs. LMAO, hardly pro-spec. If you think this is a smart buy for almost 6k, have at it.
@@bryanm.3026 Don't think this is a smart buy at all. Just pointing out how comparing an entry level dirtbike to a mid/high end mtb in terms of price isn't really fair.
Alloy for broke people
I'm going back to alloy. Carbon is stiff city
If it ain't metal, it's just plastic 🤘
