MY THEORY:FORMER FLEET ADMIRAL SENGOKU,secretly sent AOKIJI undercover with the blackbeard,because after the MARINEFORD ARC,GOKU realized how dangerous BLACKBEARD would be if left unchecked.The GOROSEI and AKAINU were so focused on LUFFY and DRAGON,up to this point that,that's why BLACKBEARD WAS able to accomplish all that he has so far.

Let's be fair here, he killed a giant but if Aokiji REALLY wanted to murder a child he would have just done it, you know? He gave her a free pass the first time they met and then when he ran into the group again, after she continued to cause trouble, he could have easily just shattered her ice body. Like I feel like he was sort-of half and half on killing her the second time as well because he could have done it and he attacked her, but at the same time he probably wasn't really eager to let her get away OR to just directly end things.

To be Fair to aokiji, at least he let robin actually live. If any of the other admirals or vice admirals had been in his shoes, robin would be dead.
Aokiji may be an undercover revolutionary that would be badass
and to gain blackbeards trust, he attacked the revolutionaries with them, and helped them with the tactics and shit. But it was dragons plan all along, wanting to settle somewhere else anyways

Fabiocean maybe he secretly works for buggy, to infiltrate the WG, and infiltrates the rev army to gain their trust and infiltrates the BB pirates for their trust. Buggy is a strategic genius.
I think that Kuzan was justified in killing Saul; the giant was flipping battle ships around and Vice Admirals have Haki so it is likely that Kuzan could sense every single Marine that died, in fact that might have even been the ship he was in charge of.
Consider the following; Saul was a D., he betrayed his allies, killed former allies and then worked against their goals, put like that he's kind of like Blackbeard, with Kuzan playing the role Ace... except that he was actually strong enough to kill the traitor.
The fact that he gave Robin a chance at living could be because of her age or he could have been honouring the wishes of his former friend.
At least that's my take on the situation, feel free to make arguments
I think the situation with O’Hara, being 20 years ago, was probably the 1st time he really committed an atrocity.
I think since then he developed a sense of justice similar to Garps, meaning that atrocity just because it’s an order doesn’t need to be followed.
Killing Saul and committing genocide on the island was probably too much for him and he couldn’t bring himself to kill and innocent crying child.
So now he’s “lazy” but it’s really just a cover to not be a violence puppet for the World Gov

Luffy and Robin were taken away and thawed out.
Saul was frozen, solid, and left on an island scheduled for a Buster Call. If the freezing wasn't the cause of death, the fire and explosions most likely were.
Not knowing if you read the manga or not , must contain myself........but let me tell you Oda will revisit this incident.......trust me we didn't see all of it.........keep on reading...........

A few people actually, but it is pronounced differently in the Funimation release (which I'll be honest, i watch more of that one) than the Japanese. So I'll probably switch between both.
And here I thought this was just a matter of English pronunciation. You know, if "iwata" becomes "aiwara", "aki-inu" wouldn't be much of a stretch...
Tekking101 technically, you're not incorrect in pronouncing Aka Inu.
It is two words, put together. The "ai" isn't pronounced "I". "a" makes the ah sound and "i" makes the ee sound.
When put together, it sounds like ah-ee, which sounds like a drawn out "I".
it's a subtle sound, like how you English/Japanese teacher stated, with the words ending in "u".

Talk about Senguku please - I think he is an extremely interesting character with his strong sense of honor, justice but also morals.
He is one of the "oldschool" guys who almost openly revere the era of Roger, Whitebeard, Garp etc. - the era that made them legends.
It's also extremely interesting how he acts ever since he retired from being fleet admiral - peacefully talking with Law about Rosenante, being more laid-back in general, but still making sure that Doflamingo gets properly imprisoned.
Post-retirement Sengoku is basically Garp ver. 2

I get the feeling that Aokiji might be the one rebuilding the Navy after Akainu and possibly Kizaru go down. At least that's the impression I get from their historical references (from the Sengoku era).

In the Zou Arc, Dogstorm and Cat Viper warned Nico Robin that many pirates will track her down for her ability to read the poneglyphs.
Let's clear up some things:
1) Blackbeard pirates and Straw Hat pirates are obviously going to clash at some point.
2) Shanks won't mess with Nico Robin, Big Mom might but I don't think she cares much, Kaido definitely will but won't get too far. I think Blackbeard is the true threat though.
3) Aokiji knows a lot about Robin and is now allied with Blackbeard. Will he spill the beans on Robin? Or did he just ally with him because he knew Blackbeard had plans to steal Robin from the Straw Hats? I think it's the latter because the only way to protect Robin is by keeping an eye on Blackbeard, and at the end of Enies Lobby he was pleased to hear that she found her place.
4) Nico Robin was with the Rev Army during the timeskip and I'm sure Oda did not do that in a random manner. I believe they will defend her and Luffy no matter what, especially if Blackbeard is the enemy after the raid on Baltigo.
5) Shanks and Blackbeard had their disputes before.
6) New Whitebeard pirates want to avenge Whitebeard and Ace, and also promised to protect Luffy no matter what.
Conclusion:
The all powerful Blackbeard pirates and their allies will have to track down Nico Robin because they're retarded. None of them can read the poneglyphs.
Aokiji will sabotage their attempt by siding with the Straw Hats (along with Shanks, New Whitebeard, and Rev Army who all have unfinished business with Blackbeard. The scar, the death of Whitebeard, and the raid respectively).
I believe that Aokiji will betray him because Oda forshadowed this when Jesus Burgess said "I don't trust him". I can see Blackbeard messing up that way and having a taste of betrayal just like he betrayed Whitebeard back in the day.
That sounds very plausible to me, but what I am sure of is that AOKIJI WILL DEFINITELY HAVE A POSITIVE ROLE IN THE STRAW HAT'S JOURNEY.

You make a good argument when you said his laziness is just a cover for dodging unmoral orders. I think his justice is more in line with Fujitoras to some degree.
2020 update: I think Kuzan is a member of SWORD operating as a reconissance specialist... Odd encounters with wanted criminals that he doesn't bring in ( i.e. Robin), Suddenly leaving the marines and nobody but the gorosei seems to be batting an eye about it (not even Sakazuki), and randomly wandering around and aligning with the blackbeard pirates. I think he's gathering info for SWORD because the marines might know something BIG is coming and they need to be prepared.
maybe the reason he allied with the Blackbeard Pirates, was so he could gather information to use against them
maybe he'll end up fighting on the side of the Straw Hats when they eventually fight Blackbeard

Aokiji wasn't told to go find robin, he went to see where robin ended up because he saved her at ohara as a favor to Saul. That's why he shows up at the end of water 7 arc to talk to robin. He also wanted to make sure that the people robin was with were strong enough to take care of her.
I can imagine Aokiji and Mihawk wondering the ocean like "Sup" "Hi?" "Where you goin'?" "The island that a few miles that way" *points* "Cool, cool, same here" "You... Wanna head there together?" "Yeah, sure, why not"

actually aokiji went there on in own. if you read ending of skypeia there is panel in which gorosei are talking about aokiji. they dont know where he went.
I can agree with most stuff you said.But my hope for his Future differsfrom your´s and I think is more realistic.
I see him allying himself with the revolutionary army and Dragon. That way he can fight again, against Akainu somewhere around the end, and also be ofhelp to the staw-hats since he will want to help Dragons son. Especially since he seemst to see Luffy as someone important. The deal with the Blackbeards could be an undercover-thing for the revolutionary army, or smth. just some small but serious business where the need each other for a time, but easily breakable after Aokiji gets what he came for, since I cannot see them like each other much enough to become permanent friends
the straw hats first encounter with kuzan he could have bin sent by garp instead of sengoku because garp and kuzan have always bin on good terms

When he went out to "check" on the strawhats he wasn't acting on orders, he feels personally responsible for Robin because he let her go in the past and felt he would regret it if he didn't stop her this time around.
also, he didn't capture Strawhat because Smoker was indebted to him from Alabasta.

What if aokiji never defected from the marines and is working undercover for akainu. Think about it nobady questend his defecion from the marines and it seams like a perfect oppertunity for an undercover mission and if this is true aokiji and akainu can agree to work together whidouth conflickt. Yea, but it seems too obvious, the Blackbeard pirates obviously suspect this. In order to ally with them in the first place, my guess is he had to kill some marines or some shit. I think he is after something for his own agenda. Maybe something with revolutionaries, I think he was just done with the marines, he did not hate them he just didn't want to serve anymo

The thing about kuzan I think he was burned out as an admiral. When he was younger he seems lively and with a ton of energy. But when he realized his job did not give him the power to actually do justice (because the world government is an oppressive fascist government )he adopted lazy justice to do the bare minimum of his job.

What happened with Robin and Aokiji is that because Aokiji and Jaguar D. Saul were good friends, he decided to let Nico Robin escape. This was also because Jaguar questioned Aokiji's sense of justice during the genocide of Ohara. He decided to give Jaguar's sense of justice a chance by letting Robin live. 20 years later when Aokiji was going to kill Robin during the Water seven/Enies Lobby Arc at this time he was acting in the mindset that after 20 years she still hasn't found somewhere she belongs and is just suffering living and making the world a worse place. This is when Jaguar stating everyone is born into the world to have friends comes into play. This is why after Enies lobby was destroyed Aokiji told the straw hats they passed.
Take this in: Probably one of the most chilled person in all of anime (Aokiji) has the same voice actor as DIO for JoJo. Have you seen the way Dio acts in JoJo. Araki and the people behind JoJo's bizarre adventure were like "Ah yes, let's take the voice actor of one of the most chilled people in anime and test his limits by voicing one of the most mentally insane characters in all of anime.

I'm glad I got to meet Tekking last year at Tekkoshocon. I was cosplaying Aokiji and my buddy was Akainu
I may be late to the discussion here but I think that it’s important to point out that aokiji is the chill chill human. Think of it as he is able to freeze things. Like an absolute zero freezing point. Rather than being “ice” as in frozen water, he is a person who can freeze any liquid by using the absolute zero freezing point. Again, someone may have pointed that out already since I’m finding these videos well after their original posting date.
My personal theory on Kuzans' devil fruit is that it's not Ice but rather simply Cold itself. He can freeze water in milliseconds because he's either re/moving heat or in Manga fashion adding some "coldness" to anything he wishes.
I think it's fair to say Aokiji is stronger considering he fought Akainu to a draw, even with the elemental affinity against him.
Ace had an advantage over him, and Akainu had an advantage of Ace, so Akainu should have had a huge advantage over Aokiji...
I get the feeling he is going to end up something like Iceman, one of the most powerful mutants in all of Marvel Comics.

I reread the passage where Aokiji appear and in fact, he wasn't sent by anyone. Even the gorosei wondered where it went.

Aokiji was not sent to kill the Straw Hats, he went there independently from High Command for his own reasons. It was stated in the manga when other top marines have no idea where he went.

Honestly if you're going to discuss Smoker you may as well discuss other major Marines. Tashigi, Garp, Cobi (may as well bunch Helmeppo in there since they don't to appear apart from each that much), and for the heck of it Django and Fullbody. They pop up ever now and then, and got a cover story dedicated to them so I think they're worth at least a 5-10 minutes.

When Aokiji was introduced I didn’t realize how strong admirals were. He froze the ocean cool and dropped luffy but it wasn’t til Kizaru wrecked shit at sabaody when I realized just how big admirals are

Like Crocodile, I feel like Aokiji, an admiral, was introduced to early. The crew should have ran into a vice admiral first, then we'd be able to compare how they far combat wise against them and compare the VAs strength to an admirals later down the line.
just wanna point out that the tons of salt in the ocean men's that the specific heat of that water body is freaking massive. this means that only a stupid hot temperature can make the ocean boil and only an insane temperature of cold can even begin to freeze the ocean. even a small part is hard to change temperature. so aokiji can't possibly freeze the ocean, unless his devil fruit is awakened or something
