I started listening the the PainPT and then got the Curable app recommended by a doctor (imagine that!) and watching various and sundry video's of like nature a couple months ago. After nearly crippling Fibro for most of my life, I'm fairly 50% better with 0% symptoms many times of the day. Still a work in progress especially with the IBS constipation and nocturnal headaches. But VERY sure all will be healed in a short time. I'm 72 tomorrow and wish I'd known about this stuff years ago but better late than never. DON'T STOP BELIEVING! You WILL heal. I promise!
Having been a patient of Dr. Sarno for 25 years, I am so happy to have found Dr Schubiner 2+years ago. Thirty years ago after having 3 yrs of backpain, I said to my then therapist "I think my pain in back is all my rage lodged in back." Two days later I heard of Sarno & his theory made complete sense to me. Dr Sarno asked about my life & confidently told me "you're a typical tms patient". Backpain went away soon after his 2nd lecture. However, I suffered for 30 yrs w all typical symptoms (& headaches from 13 years prior. ) I recall dr sarno told me "hogwash put your heels back on" after podiatrist told me I must have surgery for toe pain & I wouldn't be to walk in 10 years. My toe is fine 20 years now. I have So many Dr sarno stories, but I'm so grateful I watched documentary, all the rage in dec 2019 & found nicole sachs, Dr Schubiner & others to now, NO MORE HEADACHES (43 yrs later). I'm so grateful
Thank you for sharing that Karen. Pain is never just manifesting on the physical level. We're always experiencing pain physically, emotionally, psychologically and spiritually simultaneously. It's dumb to look at physical symptoms in isolation.
Thanks for this! I’ve been dealing with chronic pain in the right side of the body (liver, gut, stomach) for 8 years. And all my exams and doctors always told me that I was okay. During the last months, I was desesperate, I felt hopeless, I asked life for an answer, because I was contemplating commit suicide, but then, all this information appeared to me and I’ve been crying of happiness, because I feel understand and that there are methods to reprogram myself. I send much light and wisdom to anyone that is going through a similar process. Thanks for this, now I see that there’s life beyond the pain.
Dr.Schubiner’s Wisdom, sincerity and kindness, touch me deeply.I got so much out of this podcast. Thank you❤ I live in Sweden and I’m interested in the origin of names, so I went to one of the websites I use, and typed in Schubiner. The meaning of that name came up as KIND! He is true to his name!
Whoa, what Dr. Schubiner described about pain that starts at the second wedding is EXACTLY my experience. My pain started the very same day of my second wedding. It's exactly as Dr. Schubiner described. My first husband was abusive. Current husband is amazing. But my brain's alarm signals went off anyway. I never connected these things before. 🥺
Holy bleep!!!! So, I divorced an emotionally abusive man 9 years ago. I was with him from 17-30. I met a man I absolutely know is my husband and am marrying him. Two months into our relationship when we started talking about marriage, I gained foot pain and numbness in my saddle area. All of a sudden. Out of the blue. I never did anything for this to occur and now I'm questioning this correlation! Drs haven't been able to find anything as of yet.
Dr Shubiner is one of the most wise, open minded, intelligent, and balanced doctors I've ever come across. Feel blessed to have found this guy. So much of what he says makes sense. Great interview.
The best interview with Dr. Schubiner I've heard yet! Thanks so much. This healing approach can help literally every health condition. Definitely not bullocks!
I am so grateful to have found you both! I blew out two disks in my neck 20 years ago and have a 2" titanium plate now. I thought I was done with this given my Mom had 9 back surgeries and took to her bed for the last 5 years of her life - degenerative disc disease, arthritis, and bone spurs pushing against her spine. I was having a rough time emotionally in April and found myself in the ER at the Mayo - pain shooting into my head, left shoulder, and down to my scapula. CT scan revealed that my cervical spine looks like the equivalent of a gnarled arthritic hand. That did not happen overnight and I see how my emotions played into it. The experience helped me stop and focus on myself rather than the external events of the day, as well as the constant caregiving of others instead of me. I purchased your books, unlearn the pain and unlearn the anxiety so I can stop this craziness and the "procedures" I'm told I need. The epidurals and RFA have helped so I can do more Physio. I have to stop this in its tracks as now my thoracic spine CT revealed the same level of issues. I believe that all imbalances are unresolved trauma - from a cold to cancer, inflammation, and chronic pain. I've even produced events called Your Body ALWAYS Speaks Your Mind. It's one thing to know it and quite another to change up after 6 decades! I'm also quite enthralled with Dr. Gabor Mate, The Myth of Normal. I will never stop believing that these things are not a product of our mind and that the 18" between our hearts and heads needs constant care, cleansing, meditation, journaling, and love. We can do this! Again, thank you ever so much for your conversation and your work Dr. Howard! 🙏🏼💯🗝
Wow! You could be talking about me and my son! I have been in pain for 20 years, and my son is now in the same boat as you with the cervical spine issues. He writhes in pain and iv feel helpless with a broken arm and having been on disability after I retired from teaching. May I ask where you began your search? It’s the middle if the night here, and I’m always researching our health issues, yet my ex, who has left my friends son here because he hasn’t gotten his house remediated from horrible mold, and this has obviously left me the caregiver with a broken arm and Lyme that is making me sick with fevers. I have a lifetime of rheumatic problems since I was a baby, and then 20 years of breast implants, mold toxicity, and operations due to the toxins destroying my organs. I’ve lost everyone and every bit if money I had because of this. Thank you!
I've watched the first 7 minutes so far and this has changed my whole way of thinking. I have a number of pain conditions that have worsened the last few months or so. I was in an abusive and very violent relationship about 15 years ago, suffered many injuries and as a result left me with a lot of pain. Moving forward my life is great with a wonderful partner now. However last year we became full time carers for his elderly grandad, who was the best patient ever. But, his son (my partner's uncle) lives with him and was controlling and abusive and targeted me. This left me mentally and physically unwell again and to the point where we had to withdraw (we did arrange for paid carers to go in, we didn't just abandon grandad). I'm learning so much about how that triggered my previous relationship. Ironically I'm also a mental health nurse of 25 years too. I cannot wait to watch the rest of this. Thank you so much.
People don’t get sick from magical flying Boogey germs. They DEVELOP the “illness” following the resolution of the upsetting event that caused it. Just like they DEVELOP cancer. If you can’t “catch” cancer, you can’t “catch” anything else. The Germ Theory has been fraud for 110 years. Repeating it over and over does not make it true.
There is no separating the mind and body. It is the mindbody, and so it's hard to even say there is a connection as they are one in the same thing. This connection for me is why what is being presented here makes so much sense.
Heck, yeah, I have hope!! Y'all are doing amazing work! Thank God for you two! Thank-you for this gentle, balanced interview. It contributes greatly to my doctoral work 🙏💙
In 2015 sept i had burning urination at 61. I went to 4 different drs. Every test psa urine blood digital rectal etc. brutal!! 5 months of horror. Diagnosed as prostatitusI then discovered by accident Schubiner s book : unlearn your pain. In 10 days 100% cured. Zero over! I was angry at my father who was 89 but an ass. An ass since the late 50s. Thankyou Dr Schubiner
@@browneyedgirlFL67 great question. I went to 4 Drs. I took a million pills. Nothing. I read Schubiner s book. I saw myself. A people pleaser a goodist. Weak! I wanted to be liked. I did everything for others. NOT me! So Schubiner had me put my offender in a chair. My father!!! An ass. He beat me in the 60s. Hes a bully and worse. Hes 95!!! I screamed at him. For 5-7 days. I let it all out. I had RAGE. Anger. I screamed at him while driving my car. Imaginary of course but it worked!!!! Prostatitus gone 100% zero point zero. I had deep embedded anger and rage that had to come out. I had to stand up for myself. Its rooted in fear too. I was afraid of him. So…..make YOU no 1. One 1 one 1. 1!!!!! First
I've had chronic back and neck pain for over a decade. I was on a cruise to Europe for 10 days. I swear I had zero pain until we came back then the pain returned. I believe this 100% It's a mental thing 😢
“The more you are identified with your thinking, your likes and dislikes, judgments and interpretations, which is to say the less present you are as the watching consciousness, the stronger the emotional energy charge will be, whether you are aware of it or not. If you cannot feel your emotions, if you are cut off from them, you will eventually experience them on a purely physical level, as a physical problem or symptom." -Eckhart Tolle
I'd love to come on your podcast to validate Dr Schubiner's modality and other emotional pain that I healed from by educating myself. I'm in the UK. Thanks.
Thankyou for such a clear discussion about pain and the mindbody connection. I really feel the profound caring, compassion and humility of you both, your hope and optimism for those suffering from pain, to heal with understanding and ease. I am actively aware of the relationship of pain to fear and stress & have been for decades. Experiencing strong hip and back pain this week as a consequence of feeling overwhelmed and pressurised so self care, self love I know is the treatment. Thankyou for the ' medical' confirmation. 🌸🙏🌸
Many thanks to both of you! What an enlightening conversation. It makes so much sense that living in a state of fear can create physical pain. It certainly takes a tremendous toll on mental/emotional health. Please know that what you do in the world really matters.
I'm only a couple weeks into the program and I have had way less pain and I've been dealing with pain for about 40 years I recently had a relapse of pain but I'm getting back on the program and I will be fine. If you've had chronic pain as long as me don't expect to heal yourself in 28 days but you will start to see the difference. In a warning to those that don't want to stop going to the doctor and trying different medications I had a colleague at work who was dealing with chronic headaches and eventually the doctor gave her something so strong that she ended up with the allergic reaction and ended up in the burn unit with her skin peeling off and now she has a actual disease from the medication. I've been pleading with her to read the book but she's dragging her feet even after her experience
@ it depends. Part of MBS is having professional doctors rule out serious issues. So you should be seen by a professional. But if they determine there is no structural cause then you might benefit from it. Worked for my migraines
This is key to understanding pain. Sometimes it’s a signal that your trying to squeeze a view of reality , a wish into a reality that isn’t there such as being in an unhealthy relationship or working for an abusive boss. Expecting a friend to be a good friend when they can’t be, expectations that you’d have from your family members, believing your a better person than how you yourself behave with the ones you love . This is perhaps the center from which most pain originates - when we let ourselves down , not living up to the standards that we believe in . . It’s normal to have bulging disc , degenerative disc disease, absolutely true. Fear alarms the pain centers in brain. How much is real and how much is created. That’s the trick. Treat people well and incidence of pain decreases. Stress has limits. Stomach aches before school is the brain saying your in danger. What’s interesting is how much is imagined and how much is coming from the work bosses. Sometimes it’s not a good fit for some undetermined reason. Important thing is if it’s not a fit that’s all we need to know. The brain is turning it on and it’s real because the brain doesn’t feel safe. Pain is a protecter . The body always knows , often the more intelligent we can reason ourself to put up with things but the brain is watching . Smoke alarm is loud if there’s a lot of smoke or very little. The alarm is loud either way. There doesn’t have to be a structural problem for pain to be present. Mind body connection.
In 2015 this book cured my brutal 5 months of prostatitus- i had been to 3 drs 4 times. Every imaginable test. I read a blog where a guy said but this book. I did assuming it was about surgery or meds or diet etc. it isnt. I was cured 100% in 5 days!!!! I was better 30% into the book. The book was written about me. Thankyou dr Schubiner!!!!!
Thank you for addressing the Covid/ fear topic. I believed that from the very beginning. So many people I’m sure fell into this trap. Of course the media didn’t help. Thank you for your work.🙏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
So did my son. He’s now paranoid and feels unsafe here. This is a nice home and city, but he screams at me that he feels unsafe and wants to be in a hospital. 5tines they’ve sent him home saying it’s anxiety!!!
It's not true. There are clear markers of inflammation, endothelial damage, brain hypo perfusion etc. in LC patients. Maybe some cases are nocebo, fear, anxiety cases. But Long Covid is a real condition. Only ignorant people and doctors are gaslighting the covid sufferers. ME/Cfs is also a real neuro-immune condition.
My meditation experience with either emotional pain or physical pain has been helpful to me. Here's an account of my first severe physical pain experience as a meditator... I witness my pain, noting how strong or weak the sensation is, the texture of it, moment by moment...knowing the impermanence of sensations, of everything in life. I look for deep stillness within, using the breath in the belly, at the nose and upper lip and bodily sensations. Time slows down. Pain comes again. I witness my reaction to the pain as it arrives, knowing my negative reaction to it can only increase suffering. I tell myself to relax into it, let it go where it will, without my interference or judgement. Pain becomes more distant...it is waning. When I sense a new wave coming, I watch it in my mind as I surf atop the wave without falling into the wave. I don't know when the wave will run its course, but I work with it from above and my heart opens fully to whatever it brings in each moment. Hours go by...waves and waves. Finally, exhaustion sets in, but I am strong enough to strip off my sweaty clothes and put on a fresh nightgown, get a towel for my wet hair, and fall into slumber. Since my first experience, I've come to realize that meditation is not only about watching the breath or the pain or whatever arises. It's about witnessing the quality of my reaction to it. Relaxing my reactivity (judging whether something is good, bad, neutral) / preferences (urges to interfere by pushing it away, running away, or pulling it toward me) and dwell in equanimity (letting it go as it will, detaching from it). Having this experience... . Taught me a lot about judging and preferences. . Prepared me for other life challenges. It is a bit like making friends because it is my teacher. Meditation has the connotation: Calm abiding, becoming familiar.
@@chrishairston8867 Hi Chris I do Shamatha and Vipassana as taught by B Alan Wallace, Tonglen as taught by Reggie Ray. Also following Gelong Thubten, Nick Keomahavong et al. Started with Zazen in 1971. None of these were physical pain specific. But stillness was always priority. Then Tonglen, which is a type of vipassana. Some Tibetan meditation involves visualizations.
Oh yes, FEAR has been sometimes the only motivator in my life, bigger then life actually. So no wonder Fibromyalgia! That’s the great news! Now on to healing the fear which is the difficult part.
Overall great conversation. HOWEVER: “everyone” should *not* learn mindfulness meditation. In some cases, it’s absolutely contraindicated, and can cause harm. This has been studied and is well documented, so I’m surprised to hear this blanket statement. This is especially true for people with certain mental health issues, particularly for people with diagnosed PTSD. (Not “I feel like I have PTSD.” If you feel anxious but have no other symptoms of PTSD, see a person who specializes in PTSD to get evaluated. Often, that is not the same as PTSD.) Other forms of meditation - such as focusing on an image or a word - are better in those cases. Or using the idea of mindfulness as a way of focusing on the present, rather than in formal meditation. Or by doing tai chi or meditative walking. There are various methods. But mindfulness meditation as popularly taught can - and has - put some people into deep distress. Furthermore, working with someone is very important, which makes sense in the context of our brain’s wiring for living in groups. For example, those who have suffered real trauma don’t do as well with self-help. When he said “a caring person,” that relationship is often key, if you find a person you feel sympatico with. Forgiveness is heralded as a cure-all, but if you can’t get to forgiveness because of what was done to you, it’s ok. Sometimes, it’s more honoring to your experience to let it go, eventually, without forgiving. And that’s ok.
Mindfulness meditation is beneficial for everyone. Start with Anapana meditation. Mindfulness of the breath. This will help with anxiety and depression, ADHD etc.

I've been developing my own therapy modality for people with trauma/ idiopathic pain, anxiety and depression. Collaborative play therapy is what I'd call it. I break it down into 2 parts pause and play incorporating mindfulness meditation and collaborative play.

I'm so sick, on palliative care. I have myasthenia gravis, confirmed via repetitive nerve stimulation tests, I have ptosis (eyelids hanging down muscles can't hold lids all the way open) and had to take decades of steroids/prednisone to try and hault the autoimmune process. Now I'm steroid dependent as my adrenal glands quit making cortisol on their own. So I have Adrenal Insufficiency and I will literally die without cortisol replacement, so unfortunately I must continue the prednisone for life. The steroid/prednisone has *destroyed* much of my bones... my teeth too; my spine is absolutely awful... degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, many bulging discs, hx of fractures in my thoracic spine, severe facet degeneration, spondylitis, hx of 3 epidural abscesses resulting in life threatening septicemia, avascular necrosis of both hips/left hip replaced; severe thyroid disease/Hashimoto autoimmune thyroiditis with hyperthyroidism likely causing my severe muscle pain due to thyroid-toxicosis. I suffer from debilitating weakness. I also suffer from awful thigh pain, and very bad lower back pain. I realize I have serious, real medical challenges; however, if I could be relieved of the lower back pain alone I'd be ecstatic! It's what causes me the worst pain. Anyone, have any thoughts about my case? I believe TMS is a BIG possibility for some of my pain... especially my lower back pain.
About 30 years ago I read Dr John Sarnos book and it changed my life, And my mom dad and uncle’s life. It’s transforming. The book was called mind over back pain. However one thing I don’t agree with and this talk is that food can cause pain. I have some diagnosed arthritis and it’s actually doesn’t cause me a problem until I eat a bunch of tomatoes and then the pain goes off the roof. So there are some foods that can affect our joints if you have arthritis. Just saying.
I wonder how this knowledge applies to different symptoms associated with a disease such as Lyme? It can be difficult in some cases to get a solid diagnosis. I have a friend who was finally diagnosed with Lyme-and then eventually-MS. After years of suffering he finally did legal assisted suicide. He had suffered a huge loss in a skiing accident of both his father and brother a few years before. I often quietly wondered if his diagnosis was not rooted in the unprocessed grief of his losses. Also, when someone is accident prone? Sometimes there are correlations between the time of an accident and emotional distress.
Thank you for this interview. Do you need to identify the source of the problem/trauma in order to heal from the pain? What if you can't pin point it? Can you still benefit from this type of healing?
I was diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy. All the test results came back negative, no cause found. Why do the nerves get damaged? Can it be that emotional trauma is the cause? Thanks for your input
I’m currently following the process laid out by Alan Gordon. But on the big things is why Inflammatory foods make the sensations worse. All bloodwork is normal. I find it interesting, that he’s basically saying this is a conditioned response. I wonder how would you tackle that aspect.
I think you've also got to look at things in the round: physical, emotional, mental, spiritual. Perhaps consult your intuition, maybe meditate on 'what could be causing this?' or if nothing from this, perhaps 'what could help me find the cause of this?'

What about pelvic pain that could be learned from the initial uti I also hadUterine cancer and hysterectomy and that’s pretty much what all the pain started. I keep having these flares but I told it’s either pelvic floor dysfunction or my car Lexus in my Sacrum
Degenerative disc disease is seen is 50% of people in their 30's, who have no pain at all. It's seen in 70% of people in their 50's and 90% of people in their 70's. So it's quite likely that your DDD is NOT a structural problem, buy an MBS issue.
This is doctors who are supposed to practice. Formal education, then dig into areas where there are questions and start looking at food and emotional distress to cure.
I had excruciating electric shock in my brain from Trigeminal Neuralgia for 2 to 3 months while looking for a job. The day I found a job, the next morning the electric shock was completely gone. I can't believe, I am not in control of these psychosomatic conditions. Perhaps prayer can control the narrative.
How can the medical world buy into this? They have spent years and thousands of dollars learning others ways. It appears more doctors are being humble and open about other beautiful options.

Any thoughts on Long Covid? My grown son has lived here for over 2 years because he has mold toxicity, severe Lyme coinfections, forward head posture, and then long covid “lit up” his symptoms a full YEAR ago that left him basically bed and housebound with severe head pressure, stomach issues that feel like his intestines are filled with glass, he’s constipated, then black stools come out, he aches from head to toe and his joints ache. He is being treated by the doctors around this Rochester/Troy/Birmingham area who are mold and Lyme literate, and are world renown, but he continues to suffer: hence, his father(who still has not remediated his house) and I have no lives. He is extremely irritable, cries out for me to come and help him, and I feel useless with my own disabilities, a broken shoulder, and trying to take care iof the house I had tested for mold, and it’s clean. He feels unsafe in Richester and starts to scream that it’s my fault for moving from a moldy condo that was killing me, to a place closer to my kids. He screams in pain and I am useless in my efforts to help him. He searches the internet for places to treat him inpatient, but he has Medicaid, which leaves his choices extremely limited. I have my own chronic pain that I can explain another time which began in childhood and subsided, but started up 20 years ago. However, I’ve lost everyone in my life because of my illnesses and his, leaving me a nervous wreck from the criticism intake from his rages. We need help!

This is the secret sauce to healing, and continuing a life full of vibrancy, safety and self-love. Thank you Dr. Schubiner for your leadership.
This guy is brilliant. He speaks my story for twenty years. TY for the video .
Dr.Schubiner’s Wisdom, sincerity and kindness, touch me deeply.I got so much out of this podcast. Thank you❤
I live in Sweden and I’m interested in the origin of names, so I went to one of the websites I use, and typed in Schubiner. The meaning of that name came up as KIND! He is true to his name!
Dr Schubiner, you are a Godsend.
This should have a Billion views, not a rap video!
Dr Shubiner is one of the most wise, open minded, intelligent, and balanced doctors I've ever come across.
Feel blessed to have found this guy. So much of what he says makes sense. Great interview.
Thank you 'The Way' - I appreciate that.
Where is he located? It must be in Michigan, and I live here. Thank you!
Thank you Magpie - I hope that you find the rest useful.

Great podcast! Thank you Dr. Schubiner!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Beautifully expressed 🌿🌷🌿

I have often contemplated the notion that the origin of all diseases begins in the mind

Great conversation
Meditation has the connotation:
Calm abiding, becoming familiar.
May I ask what style of meditation you practice? You sound like you are where I want to be.
@@chrishairston8867 Hi Chris
I do Shamatha and Vipassana as taught by B Alan Wallace, Tonglen as taught by Reggie Ray. Also following Gelong Thubten, Nick Keomahavong et al. Started with Zazen in 1971. None of these were physical pain specific. But stillness was always priority. Then Tonglen, which is a type of vipassana. Some Tibetan meditation involves visualizations.
TMS (Sarno) is not a pain problem. TMS is a fear problem. Thank you!
Yes, fear at the root.

Often, that is not the same as PTSD.)
Other forms of meditation - such as focusing on an image or a word - are better in those cases.
Can you please explain how mindfulness meditation can make the issue worst in those cases?
Mindfulness meditation is beneficial for everyone. Start with Anapana meditation. Mindfulness of the breath. This will help with anxiety and depression, ADHD etc.

As Sarno pointed out though high percentage of people with H Pylori without ulcers. Still TMS. Same with EBV titers.
What do you mean? H pylori ruined my life 5 years ago
I have debilitating neuropathy and many things could be the cause.. How do I go about fixing it if it is psychological response?
No doubt when there is no substantial evidence of malfunction that fear is at the root.

Degenerative disc disease is seen is 50% of people in their 30's, who have no pain at all. It's seen in 70% of people in their 50's and 90% of people in their 70's. So it's quite likely that your DDD is NOT a structural problem, buy an MBS issue.

@@naomiklahn4623 I’ve actually watched some of his videos , I’ve been thinking of doing it ! Just hard to afford all meat diet in this crazy economy, I appreciate you though for the heads up ! Thank you 🙏
@@stoner2055 if you're just eating meat, it's not as exxy as you might think. Do you have a chest freezer? We buy a side of beef every 8 or so weeks, for two of us and the dog. Otherwise, go for cheap cuts (mince, chuck steak etc) slow-cooking cheaper cuts gives you meat broth as well - great for tissues. Butchers will often give away the fat that people don't want- great salted and cooked in an air
fryer! There's ways around the price tag. 😊 Enjoy!
I get abdominal migraines. Talk about pain and literally nothing helps the pain because it’s actually related to MCAS/histamine intolerance. (I’ve verified the connection several times because I can cause them by what I eat.)
TENS works great for the pain because it just distracts me because it’s definitely not even getting deep enough into my abdomen. I can completely see the zaps to the abdomen working for menstrual cramps because sometimes distraction is the best medicine!
The interviewer’s voice is tense and filled with anxiety that I’m feeling

He is extremely irritable, cries out for me to come and help him, and I feel useless with my own disabilities, a broken shoulder, and
trying to take care iof the house I had tested for mold, and it’s clean.
Hope you found help with Dr Schubiner. It's difficult for 'goodists' and empaths to think of themselves first. However, that's what you need to do.
Can you get this doctor's book or Dr Sarno's audio books?
What’s the title of the book ?
