Do not twist to remove ticks!! And if you do leave the head in, the body will not grow back. The concern with leaving the head in is infection, the body should push it out itself but keep an eye on it for signs of infection.

Talent Hounds yeah I know it’s a great video for dog owners because I have a dog that is 3 years old and she hasn’t had a tick and sometimes you gotta check on your dog because when you remove a tick it might have an infection and it well then the dogs and puppies can die so check if it has an infection you can take it to a animal hospital

The way i do it is i normally heat up my tweezers with a lighter and pluck the sucker off. They usually let go.

The body will not grow back if the head if left in there. Also don't twist the head and get stuck in there then. Just pull gently with the tick remover..

There are flee treatments that also kill the ticks. I use Frontline Spot On which is very reasonably priced.
The ticks will fall of after about 24-48 hours, but I use a tick remover if I spot them first.
I have found the tick remover which is a metal hoop that tightens round the tick is slightly easier to use than the plastic twisty ones.

For the people who say do not twist, you are supposed to with those tick removers. Do NOT twist clock-wise the way she did though. On the instructions it states to twist counter clock-wise and do not pull on it. After turning counter clock-wise it should pop out on Its own.

Do not twist . That could break the head off in the skin. Just slowly pull up with even pressure. It will not grow back it will just leave the head under the skin which is not good

The tick is so large because it has been there for a period of time and is engorged with the blood it's been drinking from your dog. The best way to get a tick off is to get it to release on its own. Using some kind of liquid soap line dishwashing liquid, hand soap, body wash, shampoo etc. squirt it all over the tick and wait. This will cut off the air supply and it will release pretty quick. And you can easily grab it and dispose of it.
And also... a ticks body can NOT grow back if you accidentally pull the ticks body from the head. The best way to avoid this happening is by getting the tick to let go on it's own, as I told you about above.

Actually, the best removal method is using these special tick removers or tweezers. If you use soap, Vaseline, etc. to cut off its air supply, a tick can vomit its contents back into your dog, greatly increasing the chance of disease contraction. Try to get the head out by pulling straight up, but if it does pop off, it's not too big of a problem. Clean with alcohol and it will come out on its own, much like a splinter over time.
