Dihybrid and Two-Trait Crosses

- This video will show how to set up and solve everyone's favorite 16 square Punnett square. Example solves a two trait (two factor) test cross which can then be useful for solving a dihybrid cross on our handout here: www.amoebasisters.com/handouts... This video uses vocabulary that was previously defined in the Amoeba Sisters Monohybrid Crosses video.
The Amoeba Sisters videos demystify science with humor and relevance. The videos center on Pinky's certification and experience in teaching biology at the high school level. For more information about The Amoeba Sisters, visit: www.amoebasisters.com/about-us...

Card Note: At 4:50, we made a card edit that this example is a "test cross" two-trait cross as to be a true dihybrid cross, both parents should be heterozygotes. However, *the steps to solve two-trait crosses are the same* whether the two-trait cross is is a true dihybrid cross (meaning 2 heterozygote parents). See our handout for a true dihybrid cross with two heterozygous parents: www.amoebasisters.com/handouts.html We appreciate an email we received about this topic- thank you! :D If we redo this older video, we will make a point to specify the differences.
I dont quite understand 5:50 where all letters in the side are in lowercase. Could you please elaborate more on the idea? And if so, are there cases where there are uppercase and lowercase letters in the side?
Because in a 2x2 punnett square, the sides' are usually different, for instance an 'S' and 's' combo, so why doesn't it apply in a 4x4 or more?
what
:D
so do dihybrid crosses provide support for dependent inheritance?
When will everyone else realize the old saying? "Explain it to me as if I were a child!" Thank you, Amoeba Sisters!! :)

I love the amoeba sisters! Everything is explained so simply and quickly! I feel prepared for my biology test now! :)
Were u prepared for that biology test 5 years ago?
@@reginadoyle3770 Here for a biology midterm tomorrow, I'll let u know how I did.

I have been watching these videos as a refresher for part of studying for my state exam for teaching science. Thank you guys.
+Misty Smith So glad to be a part of your studying---wishing you a wonderful career as a science educator!
Thanks for carrying me through Bio, I love you guys.
Same! Doing that right now for secondary biology in NM!
when you understand a full concept in an 8 minute video instead of an hour long lecture
Omg your video was so much easier to understand with cats and sinks than all the other nerdy scientific videos I tried, thanks so much!
hi
I am taking bio this year, and we watch Amoeba Sisters videos all the time! They are so funny and so informative. Thank you both so much, I know a lot of hard work must go into making these. Just know that your hard work really helps people!

MY COLLEGE TEACHER DIRECTED MY CLASS TO THIS VIDEO. AMOEBA SISTERS FOREVER 💪🏻🙏🏻
I can't explain how much I love these videos. I struggle with science but it's so much easier to understand with cute videos and handouts.
The FOIL method you explained for the gametes? Now I'm never ever messing up my dihybrid crosses!! Seriously, you guys are the best!!
I loved this soooo much!! You managed to make it informative and understandable while still making the process enjoyable. Thank you sooo much!
You're videos are saving my scores in Biology! Hope you still make videos!
Can you make a video about the Mendel's Laws of Inheritance? Thank you!
My teacher uses these videos in class.
Space Doggo same tho
I think its fine if they do that as an introduction, but not base their whole lesson around it

Thank you! I am beyond grateful. This has helped me a lot. I was confused about dihybrid crossing before watching, and now I feel enlightened. Thanks!
dude i hate these videos so much but they are so good they help me so much thank you
Thank you!!! I got a 90 on my monohybrid/dihybrid test.... great video :)
Made a dry topic relatable and engaging so that I actually wanted to follow. Refreshing, relatable, uplifting, and informative--thanks!!
I love your page, and have learned so much for Bio. The humor, jazzy music and simple detail are what I love most.
Greatest channel of all time. You clutch up for my tests
My 8th grade science teacher is showing us these videos in class, and they are actually very helpful! While having fun animations and concepts, they are quite dense with information. Keep it up!
Is it Ms. Vazquez?
Thank you so much! This really helped me a lot with my studying! I am taking a General Biology class in my college and this was confusing to me. Now i feel more confident in doing this on my exam next week! :D
I'm taking an online course biology, right now, we're learning about Punnett Squares and Dihybrids and things like that. This video helped me understand it sooooo much better than the information that I was reading. It never explained exactly what gametes were and to freaking foil the letters. Plus it was using cats as examples and I love cats! This was awesome! :D (ps, my cat lovessss our sink also!)
omg yay it finally made sense! I literally just skim through my textbook and then actually learn it by watching your videos. They are so cute and funny, and so so easy to understand! Tysm, you're a lifesaver!
The whole cat skit made me laugh really hard
Thank you so much for creating this video all my worries and questions are finally gone because of this video. 💜
This helped me a lot with my homework. Thank you.

Your videos on genetics inheritance really helped me in my exams (MMD!!!) thank you so much.
I don't know how people passed biology before Amoeba Sisters existed 🙌🏻
Thank you, my teacher didnt have time to go over dihybrid crossess, so when it same to my homework, I came to you, and you really helped me =)

Can u please make more science videos! This helps with my home work and my sciende class. Thanks
I absolutely positively love that you use cats as the example, it makes it so simple! my cat enjoys winter here in Australia because she can go outside and play in the puddles, with all the cows looking on. its hilarious.my cat also enjoys sleeping in the bathroom sink at night.
I'm a teacher - a don't really understand science teacher... this helped me so much, and I plan to show it to my student tomorrow. Thank you - and say hi to Moo
u shouldnt be a teacher
don2killu why Mr. Cringe?
@@YonikMalik because it's such simple concepts.... Really shouldn't be a science teacher if you can't even understand hybridization without looking up a UA-cam video

love you guys keep up the great work !!! entertaining and informative :")!!
my friend told me about ur channel are really good, so i watched it, YEAH it really helpful and easy to understand, thank you so much and hope u guy make more video like this :)
According to the pet food company Candidae, cats enjoy the cold, hard basin of a sink because it helps them cool off. If it's warm outside or if you have the heater on inside, your pet may see your sink as a nice respite from the heat.
This helped me so much! THANK YOU GUYS
Thank you very much for making this video. I was struggling with this until now.
Thank you 😄. It helps me alot. I am having this being shy to my seatmate because of my wrong answers regarding this and now i understand it clearly. thanks for this 😘❤

this is so clear thank you so much ... love your effort
You just earned yourself a subscriber. Tysm!!!!💕
That 'cat loving sink' thing and parents of moo (Mr.&Mrs.mooington) was ridiculous !!! 😂❤😻LOL
This is very well put together, well done.
By definition, a dihybrid cross is between two individuals both heterozygous for two traits and produces the 9:3:3:1 ratio. In this example, one parent is homozygous for both traits. The example here is essentially a backcross, the crossing of a hybrid individual with one of its homozygous parents. But it is still a good example of how to do a two-trait cross.
Thank you so much, this helped me for my test tomorrow :)
Gonna pass the test, thanks to this 😭✊❤
The amoeba sisters are the answer to all my problems.
You guys are amazing! Thank you for your help. I understand better than I do with in my class. LOL
I’ve been trying to figure out how to set up the squares for an hour, and just because of the foil method I got it in 5 minutes. Crazy
Wish I could like 10 more times for Moo. Great video!
Massive thankyou to you, I watched this video last night, the night before my exam. :/ and it came up. Chuffed to pieces, never thought i would be so happy to create a dihybrid punnet square. lol.
