- PREX 105 in Gettysburg livery heads east out of Defiance crossing the bridge over the Maumee River. The train passes through many rural crossings plus the tiny towns of Jewell and Okolona.

When was this shot. The west of Defiance section has new rail and ballast and looks respectable.
When was this filmed? I know west of defiance the tracks look so much better than this now. And every week when I passed by from indiana past defiance I saw the track crews working on it
yeah, this is a few years ago. the nd&w is waaay better now.
this is back when they had to "walk" the trains through from point a to b. lol
you gonna cover the rebuilt section with the new rail?
Can you imagine the Wabash Cannon Ball flying through that rout at 70 or more mph?
The Wabash Cannon Ball did not use this route. It used the line through Adrian and Montpelier.
Love videos of this railroad! Would love to see more! I see their making improvements but they could sure use a tamper!
Good stuff, as usual. You're one of the very few who use a drone, which enhances the experience especially if there are two trains passing. As for high hoods, never liked riding the lead engine when one was part of the lash up. The field of vision was definitely impaired.
its telling how bad the track is, when you see the "dings" on the bottom of the locomotive pilot. I saw somewhere they showed the date on one of the compromised size pieces of track they took out that was stamped 1914!
@ 1:40... wow that is some bad looking rail... like about 3mph bad
I call this the line “The Little Leaning Railway that Could”
Great video!
They made a video of major repairs they had done after receiving a federal grant, you should see it! ND&W is a whole new rr!
That was sweet, I love these types of videos on shortlines, nice work Scott! (Dave).
Nice one my friend! Hope they start working on this section of track and get that old geep painted in the new paint scheme!👍👍
I'm glad they're upgrading their routes instead of it just ending up as another dotted line on a map.
For a second there I thought you'd gone back in time to film the Penn Central
Awesome video Scott! Always enjoy seeing videos from the ND&W.
The drone shot of the train on the pin truss bridge at the beginning was awesome.
Afterall this years the railroad still that bad?
Bad track due to lack of maintenance or mow
Great images! Thanks
It’s sister unit, Gettysburg 107, now operates on the Rock Island Rail in Mississippi.
Glad it lives on!
The tracks are terrible!!!!
anyone know what type of p3
well shot as always
nice TYPAULEE
There has been recent significant improvement to the crossings warning systems in Paulding County
Great views sir..
Now I can see the railroad running parallel to a freeway with trucks running much faster than the train. It's probably a miracle that the railroad doesn't go bankrupt and actually gets some love.
Awesome video!
Almost gave me motion sickness watching that train on those crooked rails.🤐
VERY OLD I-Bar truss!! Nice..
How on earth do trains stay on the rails? Had to take Dramamine to watch this.
The 105 has been sitting dead in Defiance for months.
Hopefully now, under Patriot Rail management, they can be financially set to make a few infrastructure improvements and upgrades.
They made a lot of improvements under Pioneer. It remains to be seen if Patriot will sustain that momentum.
Patriot operates each line as a separate entity (though sharing overhead costs). This line has to make it on its own revenue.
Wow, its going to fall right off the tracks.

Really nice video! You have a great eye!
Yes, the spaghetti rail is still there!
Nice drone footage!
Absolutely fantastic.
Great video Scott!!!
Great video!
Fantastic shots sir.
Ever since the first video this railroad fascinates me; I honestly don't know why they don't rebuild the road bed with concrete ties and spring clips? Also, try to improve the railroad from 30 M.P.H. to maybe 35 M.P.H.?
Not many railroads east of the Mississippi use concrete ties
Concrete ties have been known to crack.
I can easily tell you why. Such a rehab would cost around $1 million per mile. There isn't enough industry on the line to justify such an expenditure. And a gain in speed from 30 to 35 basically brings nothing to the bottom line
The groundhog running in the front the train at 12:47 is a highlight for me.
What a way to be remembered in Shortline railroading due to exceptionally bad track. It almost has to be agonizing chasing it when it's this slow. In the first scene you swear the engine keeps leaning and looks like it's going to tip. The Drone shots over the elevators and the farm were great and looked like a small layout and while they replaced quite a few ties it was just to stabilize the road bed in an effort to probably make five mph. Does the GP ever get above run 3?? ?
...maybe when they are warming it up lol!
LOL. Chasing it? Try running it. Or try picking up crews. It is boring beyond belief and the rocking tends to want to put you to sleep.
I’m not an expect on track maintenance, but I’m pretty sure railbed/tie stabilization comes before rail replacement. Regardless, it should be considered nothing short of a miracle that this line survived for as long as it did with such bad track
wonder what horn
Hybrid P3. 1 3 4
What is the biggest customer on the line? Other railroads or leasing companies storing cars?
Campbells soup indirectly, they have warehouses in Napoleon and truck it to the soup plant JIT.
@@ScottTaipaleRail hence the refrigerator car.
@@kevinzeh3559 do they refrigerate canned soup?
@@25mfd no but the ingredients are temperature controlled during shipment. Think before you speak.
@@kevinzeh3559 dude i just asked a question no strings attached... why you telling me to think before i speak?
That trackage looks alot better than it used to but man, those rails all need replaced. Thanks for the video!
