Robin is a talented designer IMHO, loved how she maximized storage and add a creative flair in small and big strokes. 😍Her next side gig should be home designer! Plus I love tarot, so she hooked me there too.💜
@@Hollz_Au I agree, my old apartment was 2 bedroom near Ryerson and was $1800 in 2019, which was also great, but I had been living there for 6 years. The price has since gone up
I really love her vibe and aesthetic. I think she was able to do some really awesome yet smart things within her space to make it work for her. I love the cave like coziness of her basement bedroom. I really really dig this one. Great job.
This is literally the first "Sweet Digs" apartment in Toronto I've seen that has wowed and inspired me. So much soul and creativity in this space! More unique spaces please, it's not just shoebox high rise condos over here!
Okay, Refinery29, looks like we have a new gold standard! That was an amazing video. Robin was so down to earth, her space was amazing and really was able to capture who she was in under 10 minutes. I'm seriously so inspired! Bravo!!
Kelsey from The Sorry Girls bought a house, renovated it, and turned it into a duplex. Is that a common thing to do in Toronto? Or in Canada in general?
It's becoming common in parts of Ontario. If you look at the chart of our housing market appreciation vs other countries, you can see houses in Canada are extremely unaffordable, however banks are easily giving out mortgages at 10% down payment. In my city (an hour away from Toronto) houses that are listed for $600k usually sell for $800k (200k ABOVE asking price, there's usually a blind bidding war). The cost of renovation can actually be added to their mortgage, so people renovate it into a duplex and that way they can afford to buy a house with the extra rental income
I LOVE seeing all the apartments that people have added their own particular style to especially when it's been done on a budget!! Some really creative ideas!!💙💙💙🏴🏴🏴
Loved this space. She and her friends did so many cool things to bring out her own unique style to it. Also, her bedroom reading chair is native to my country - Malawi. I get a kick out of seeing it in other places.
GEE WILLYS! This steal of a downtown apartment is as gorgeous as the girl that curated everything in it! What I would do to have so many friends that can build me stuff :( but I have no one.
@@daddishowkey a 800 sq ft condo in downtown Markham costs around $1,900...how can we believe a duplex in one of the hottest neighbourhoods in Toronto cost the same?
Yes! I have all my paint colours here. Living Room/Kitchen/Office/Bedroom - Benjamin Moore “Simply White” Stairs - Para Ultra “1141 Black” Office accent wall - Sherwin-Williams “Dark Night Paint” Outdoor Staircase - Para Paint “333c Radiance”
Amazing space and amazing price. Good job not apartment jumping as you moved up in your career... if you lived in a space for 10ish years, then you're going to have good rent in Toronto. My spot is under 2K for 2 levels as well, been here for 7 years so far :)
I been wanting to move to Toronto, I was raised in NY, and this place is amazing for the price, considering what you will get in NY for double the amount. I wouldnt mind having a place like that if I ever move there. Hopefully soon.
The living room and kitchen are cool spaces. I would have kept the bedroom upstairs off of the living room, with guest room/tarot room/office downstairs, but then that would mean going downstairs every time for the bathroom- hmm.
Hey refinery29, I love your sweet digs videos, I always wait for them, but it would be really helpful if you could show few messy homes too!!! Like IRL!!
Refinery29 Come back to London :) I spend the entire afternoon looking up bedroom furniture and measuring to find everything I liked is sold out!!! Tiny problems in the grand scale of humanity right now. It would be nice if you did a few here in London :)
I wish they would do Hair Me Out episodes at Toronto salons. I have virgin hair and I'm ready for a drastic change, would love to be featured in an episode
Oh my goodness, not only is her place nice but only for $2,000. Her place would rent for AT LEAST $4,000 where I live in California. And because her style is so great, her landlord should just let her do as she pleases.🧚🏽♀️
I love soooo many elements of this space! Definitely a unique home and that price is unbelievable (rent controlled area??). Overall it felt super cluttered to me though, like every single sq ft had to be packed with bulky furniture
That gold paint in the crack is a chinese tradition thing and you know it. You did not just think to do that. Its a beautiful concept about how flaws make us more beautiful not broken. But sure.
I live in Toronto and dont even see these prices🥴 im going to the property owner at Trinity and showing him this video and saying ... look I want this price 😂
this isn't very realistic $2000 will most likely not get you two floors and a backyard more like a 700 sq ft condo (edit: to clarify I'm talking about what $2000 will get you in Toronto)

Omg her place is lovely. And Toronto?! Super lucky.
I love love love her interior design skills and the look of the home

Love her style and the way she change the arrangement in order to fulfill her needs.

@@daddishowkey a 800 sq ft condo in downtown Markham costs around $1,900...how can we believe a duplex in one of the hottest neighbourhoods in Toronto cost the same?
Rent 5+ years ago was a lot better and thankfully rent control keeps things in check.
It is a steal. Just looking at a CBC article the average 1 bedroom went for $1651 in 2016 when she moved in. I’ve been in the neighborhood for 10.
My bet is that her parents or other family members are her “landlord” lol
Love this TO series!

Some of us aren't Californians - do tell us how much avg rent would be for similar housing in Cali.
