- In this video I show you how to use your smartphone as a webcam in Linux and Windows.
To start you're going to need to install the v4l2loopback-dkms driver and the v4l2loopback-utilities (theres are dependencies for droidcam)
Then install droidcam with the following commands
wget www.dev47apps.com/files/linux...
unzip droidcam_latest.zip -d
cd droidcam
sudo ./intall
by default the resolution is 640x480
if you want to change this vim into /etc/modprobe.d/droidcam.conf and change the pixel value of height and width

lookin' fresh my dude
For audio, you also need to run "install-sound" file
and enter this command after loading snd_aloop module and connecting to the phone
" pacmd load-module module-alsa-source device=hw:Loopback,1,0 "
I have issue with microphone on mint 20. did you facing microphone the same? tested with google meet via chrome and mic not detected.
how to load snd_aloop module?
@@chirnosans run this command "sudo modprobe snd-aloop"
many thanks I was looking very thoroughly
@@Dr.Mohandes I tried it and after entering the comand I can't hear audio from the computer
Always on point with useful or just interesting stuff to tinker with.
this was very helpful. i had struggled with this for almost a week, I had obs and droidcam app but didn't know there are those drivers to be installed first. thanks for this lifesaver video
is droidcam foss? ive been looking for something to do this to mess around with some SLAM stuff but i passed over it when i saw they released a paid "pro" version with extra features and figured that model probably wouldnt work if it was foss. i mean i guess you mention a workaround for the pro feature i was thinking of but its not paying money that im worried about tbh
I am getting into this area of interest late and maybe I am attempting a wrong use of my phone. I have DroidCam installed on both my linux pc and my samsung galaxy a10e. I can stream through vlc but I can not figure out how to save the video to a file for later editing. Is that even possible with DroidCam or do I need some other app? any advice?
Is there a way to create such a source with pipewire? How can I use my phone mic with pipewir?
Thanks man now I have a use for all those phones I've got sittings in a drawer somewhere
Hey man, what's your diet? Seen your post of a shopping basket but I don't recognize everything. Love the videos too brother
How come Google's AI got it as Vietnamese (auto-generated caption)?
Thank you great video!!
Isn't droidcam a closed source app?
How can we use it on wired connection? New to Linux here
Does it work with simplescreenrecorder?
I was calling in Duo in Google Chrome and I couldn't find any camera input for Droidcam. Does anyone face the same issue?
Great content brother o/
I have a canon dslr, i've tried applications that can control camera but the camera doens't link over to discord and other applications? Are there any way that i can connect it without buying a capture card?
You don't even give your camera model.
You should watch the video "How To Use DSLR as Webcam In Linux" by NovaSpirit Tech
@@joselaw6669 EOS 760D
@@RepiGameplays oh thanks, that video wasn't there when i looked for stuff a few months ago, now someone actually posted something!
@@toenailscollector6969 I think EposVox may have some videos on that topic too.
You should try scrcpy to record and explain the app in your computer. I think is better than using static screenshots.
Personally, i really like using iruin. Iirc it's not free, or open source, but it's awfully handy by showing a preview on the phone if phone screen is on, auto detects over the network so i don't have to enter details (Obvs not Uber secure then however), and can work over adb.
took me time to make it work with my ubuntu 20.04 with Secure Boot enabled
Works thanks alot
For those, who get an error when trying to install "v4l2loopback" (mostly occurs on manjaro), you might need to install linux-headers. Use this command on Arch based distros: sudo pacman -S "linux$(uname -r | awk -F. '{print $1$2}')-headers"
Nice, thx dude. It fix my problem
@@andikatrin.2574 :D
lol. I met this problem and were searching for fix like for an half hour. And here was it all the time :D
Thanks, it would help the others!
Use the ADM mode for low latency and better bandwidth
Thank you for the good information~~~
Try ‘Vivcam', which supports high definition (1080p) even in the free version.
In addition to FHD, Wireless connection/ultra-low delay/face tracking/gimbal compatibility are also supported.
It also works with video programs such as Zoom, Webex, Prism Live, OBS, XSplit, etc.
Nice video
I used this for a while for meetings but my phone would always just overheat and turn off.
You can get a phone cooler, i recommend trying it lol. also try putting your phone into power saving
Use it with the cable, i've streamed for hours using the USB cable and it never overheats.
Thanks : )
I cant find the drivers…
for the audio sync issue you could just use ffmpeg to post process it which I believe has the `itsoffset` flag allowing the audio to be -/+
Will this work on chromebooks' linux beta?
Nope.
No hay forma de corregir eso
No puedo instalarla me da error
I wish you would first uninstall the app from your device then do it all over again, in that way that would be easier for us to understand. I still can't figure out how to toggle HD. Please can anyone help me
why not mention obs.ninja?
I prefere the scrcpy way 🎥 HOW TO USE THE SMARTPHONE AS YOUR BEST WEBCAM FOR OBS and LIVE STREAMING
scrcpy lags, the real question is why has nobody said *oba.ninja* edit: obs.ninja

Try gstreamer-webcam.
Mac's can use iPhone cameras I believe
great tool
zsh: error execution format: droidcam
Why don't you just do it really step by step? like you wouldn't have it already installed...
for us cool linux kids
I'm fairly sure Huawei (at least my last two phones, both Huawei) actually have higher resolution front facing cameras than back cameras which is so much better of a place to put the best one!
>imagine buying Huawei instead of Xiaomi
If you want to buy Chinese spyware, at least buy good Chinese spyware
You can't use discord with droidcam
yea you can
I used a lot already (in windows, though, i'm new to linux)
Bro Linux is so confusing when you've no idea wtf your doing 💀
you will eventually get there. (comeing from a guy who is using mint as a daily driver for the past 7 days xD)

You would have a larger following and people would enjoy your videos much more if you didn't talk like a robot.
@Owen Carey true
Wtf? Im here cause the guy knows stuff I dont, if you wanna listen to a man’s voice go find it in the hub
“People” do enjoy his videos very much ...
Looking over the stats of this channel, it's doing great. I doubt you'd have this many views after 7 months.
Plenty of kid hyping, dragging vocals and hand waving tubers to choose from sir.
Works thanks alot
