@fairandseqaer it is punk rock...but no one can agree on whether or not Green Day is punk, or alt, or pop...speaking of which to those saying that the last 2 albums were pop, the WEREN'T! If anything the latest album sounds like a mix of punk rock and classic rock
That software, or even hardware, is available for concert-engineers as well, afik. Just think of Britney and those kind of artist, they HAVE to make their voices sound good live (and no, it's not always playback by far). In the case of Billie Joe, my guess is that he's drunk or stoned, just take a look at his eyes.
95% of live tracks aren't as good as the studio version. GreenDayRocks89 is right, they have software at their disposal that enhances the vocals in the studio recordings.
