That Robert Glasper cover is cool! Be sure to check out the jazz versions of Brad Mehldau also. (Jigsaw Falling Into Place, Paranoid Android, Exit Music for a Film, Knives Out, and possibly others)
Mehldau’s Knives Out turned that into one of my favorite Radiohead songs. Something about it made me really appreciate the harmonic movement of the song in a way I hadn’t before. Also, Jeff Ballard’s drumming on that take is absolutely phenomenal.
@@joshrocha2500 Yeah, that Knives Out is sick. Colin also interviewed Robert Glasper and said when the band were on tour they heard his cover and decide to put Packt back on the setlist.
You should check out Josh Cohen if you haven't already. His piano covers of Radiohead songs are amazing. He made a 16 minute jazz version of Paranoid Android.
I can’t get enough of your videos, they’ve made me interested in aspects of music I never thought I’d be particularly interested in and they’re really well made.
I really love the cover of Street Spirit by the band Stream of Passion. The symphonic metal flair they brought to the song makes it feel much more dramatic than the original.
I couldn’t agree more with the sentiments about both Regina and Radiohead being all time favorites...both different but both amazingly gut wrenching in their own ways
Brad Mehldau’s version of Knives Out on his trio’s Day is Done album is incredible. The breakneck tempo they play it at just works so perfectly with the tune. Also, Jeff Ballard’s drumming on it is absolutely phenomenal.
Letter From God To Man is an absolute classic - listened to this song countless times through my teenage years, but that Robert Glasper cover was equally something else. Saved that straight away
Go listen to: Noordpool Orchestra, Radiohead a jazz symphony. It's an album full of Radiohead covers written for a symphony orchestra. It's amazing!! Imo the best cover of Radiohead there is.
Didn't see my favourite Radiohead cover in here: Sarah Jarosz - The tourist (bluegrass). Just layers upon layers of mandolin, fiddle, upright bass, and female and male vocals that just swells.
I'm glad you mention some of the timbre/colours of music, (Regina & Cee Lo Green) sometimes all the talk about modes and chords and all that is exhausting.
Gnarls Barkley's version has been in my playlists since it was first uploaded here on youtube, and I absolutely love it - but Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip was a fireblast of fresh air! Fantastic stuff, thanks!
You know Radiohead has a dedicated fanbase and is respected by many musicians when someone creates a video about Radiohead _covers_ and how creative they can be. I wish some of my other favorite artists had this many good covers.
Started my morning when I discovered "when did Rock stop being pop?" It's late in the after noon and I've watched everything on your playlist. Well done. Keep up the good work.
Gerald Robinson I was thinking about including her actually... there is a cool interview with her when she says that she thinks “In Rainbows” is one of the best albums of all time, and I agree with her!
Easy Star All Stars & Toots and the Maytals' cover of Let Down is amazing, upbeat rocksteady reggae, transformative. Mark Ronson's Just, taking all the musical elements, riffs, and melodies and completely rearranging them. Pete Kuzma & Bilal rework High and Dry into majestic techno R&B. Lianne La Havas' live cover of Weird Fishes is also great and groovy
You should really check out the Punch Brothers who do lots of covers of Radiohead songs- Jigsaw Falling Into Place, 2+2=5, Kid A and Paranoid Android amongst others- they really are great.
I feel like another important thing to consider for the deep breathing part of the Regina Spektor cover is that it is put into the part of the song where Thom Yorke is holding his breath underwater in the Radiohead music video.
This was awesome! The Punch Brothers do a ton of bluegrass-style Radiohead covers and they are all exceptional. There's also Matthew Patrick Davis's "She Doesn't Like Radiohead" which is more of a mashup/parody, but is so thoroughly entertaining and creative that I've watched it about a dozen times.
Hi David, Thanks for another interesting take on Radiohead. As many have said, Brad Mehldau does magnificent covers of their work, in particular Paranoid Android and Knives Out. One not mentioned yet is Amanda Palmer who has a whole mini album of Radiohead covers on ukelele and a few other instruments. Like Regina it is all in her voice which is deeply touching, especially on Fake Plastic Trees, No Surprises, Creep and Exit Music. The sparseness of the instruments just highlights the power of the lyrics and melodies to great effect. She also does some killer Bowie covers with Jherek Bischoff on an album called Strung Out in Heaven, esp Ashes to Ashes, Black Star and Heroes.
Thank you so much for posting this! I will checkout the jazz version of Everything In It's Right Place. Radiohead made so many good songs, but that one is one of my favorite classics. And that Reckoner cover sounds really great too!!
Glasper's best Radiohead cover is Pakt Like Sardines. It's excellent. Also Punch Brothers have at least a half dozen really really cool Radiohead covers I recommend.
Well done job sir: I (deeply rooted in all kinds of metal mainly, but always open to other music as well) found here some interessting artists, I never heard of before. Now, I am not the greatest fan of Radiohead, but I am looking forward to hear more from Gnarls Barkley, Robert Glasper, and especially Regina Spektor. Thank you, man!
I love Ramin Djawadi's covers of No Surprises, Exit Music (for a Film), Motion Picture Soundtrack, Fake Plastic Trees and Codex for the Westworld Soundtrack. He has made many orchestral and saloon piano covers of modern songs for the show but to me the Radiohead ones are the best.
As mentioned before, the Kid A cover by John Mayer is incredible, and you should take a listen to the version of high and dry by Uruguayan singer Jorge Drexler, it's beautiful and makes it sound incredibly warm and happy.
all of these are great.. i really like gillian welch's cover of 'black star'- i didn't recognise it as radiohead at first, it fits so well into her alt-country style
Regina Spektor and Radiohead. How did I never get to hear that before??? Also, please make a video about her! I always found her sound to be so different in a special way.
The band Punch Brothers have covered a TON of Radiohead songs (mostly live, but with pretty good recordings of the performances), the best in my opinion being Kid A. I highly recommend checking out their cover, as well as their original music, they're incredible songwriters and musicians.
Wow, nice subject. I first heard Robert Glasper covering Everything In Its Right Place back in 2011, when I knew nothing about Radiohead or this wonderful song. I even thought it was Glasper's creation. I found out about a year ago that it was Radiohead, got the original and it blew me away. Love that tune to death, and it's great that the tune is so good that it can sound great within a different genre of music than originally intended for it.
Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius pip. This album blew me away when it came out. You’ve probably heard Brad Mehldaus cover of paranoid android and everything in its right place.
Wow. I can’t believe Gnars Barkley also did a cover of Radiohead. Who the heck could ever have thought of Cee-Lo Green singing Radiohead? God. At the moment you played the clip, I mentally said, with utter sureness, “Everybody loves Radiohead.”
Punch brothers version of Kid A might be one of the greatest covers of all time due to the instrumentation. Radiohead diving into electronic instruments to make the whole album juxtaposed with Punch Brothers using acoustic instruments to play the same song is brilliant, and chilling.
For Jazz arrangements look at Brad Mehldau. His version of “Everything in its Right Place” is great. Or Christopher O’Riley for more traditional classical versions. “Sail to the Moon” is fantastic!
"Begin to hope", "What we saw from the cheap seats" and "Remember us to life" are good. Also dont forget "You've got time" the theme song to Orange is the new black.
The song that got me into Regina was “Laughing With” from her album “Far”. I would start there. The album “Begin To Hope” is also supercharged with great songs, in particular the heartbreaking “Samson” 😍
YES I'm really glad someone else mentioned this. A truly fantastic cover that hits the perfect balance between a re-imagining and a wish-fulfilling tribute - I personally think it blows Gnarls Barkley's Reckoner out of the water.
You know who did a fairly straightforward cover, but with more vocal harmonies, and it's surprisingly really good? Hanson. They did a live cover of Optimistic, and... man, it's worth a listen. I shit you not.
I've never been a fan of their vocals (though the 10 year old in me still loves Mmmbop) so I'm not able to fully enjoy this cover. But they did a great job with the music. Straightforward, as you said.
Nice vid once again. I was listening to kid-a in my car a couple of days ago. I accidentally ended up driving for 50 minutes without knowing where I was going 😅
i randomly heard a cover of No Surprises by a mariachi from Guadalajara, Mexico named Mariachi Rock-o that single handedly got me into Radiohead, so check that one out if you haven't heard of it
Regina's breathing also reminds me of the music video for No Surprises, when Thom catches his breath after having his head submerged for a while
Lianne La Havas - Weird Fishes
Gillian Welch - Black Star
Alexa Melo - Lotus Flower
Ayurveda - National Anthem
Tao - Everything In It's Right Place
Amnesiac Quartet - Wolf At The Door
Ryley Robinson-Condon - Decks Dark (8 bit)
Matt Haimovitz & Christopher O'Riley - Pyramid Song
Amplive - 15 Stepz
And for fun's sake: Hard 'n Phirm - Rodeohead (bluegrass Radiohead medley)
Enjoy!
ThelemicMagick Gillian Welch Black Star 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
@@gaspingfortruth That Gillian Welch cover is transcendent. It needs to be heard.
Weird Fishes by Simon Daniel ain't bad either, my brother obsessed this and Lianne's (with the colourful dress, she has several)
That Robert Glasper cover is cool! Be sure to check out the jazz versions of Brad Mehldau also.
(Jigsaw Falling Into Place, Paranoid Android, Exit Music for a Film, Knives Out, and possibly others)
Yes! Was just coming here to post that.
Mehldau’s Knives Out turned that into one of my favorite Radiohead songs. Something about it made me really appreciate the harmonic movement of the song in a way I hadn’t before. Also, Jeff Ballard’s drumming on that take is absolutely phenomenal.
Yeah Mehldau everything
@@joshrocha2500 Yeah, that Knives Out is sick. Colin also interviewed Robert Glasper and said when the band were on tour they heard his cover and decide to put Packt back on the setlist.
My bad. lol Saw Robert's name and immediately thought of Packt and not EIIRP.
You should check out Josh Cohen if you haven't already. His piano covers of Radiohead songs are amazing. He made a 16 minute jazz version of Paranoid Android.
..and Sequoia Sounds; RH piano covers with mind-blowing polyphony and details
It was fucking amazing!
Oh, yes! His "Codex" ❤
OH WOW!!! I've got something to enjoy this evening!! TYTYTYTY!! xoxoxoxo
Before or after Brad Mehldau did his 19-minute version?
I can’t get enough of your videos, they’ve made me interested in aspects of music I never thought I’d be particularly interested in and they’re really well made.
Ben mckernan thank you so much Ben! That means a lot
Put some respect on BUFFCORRELL he deserved to be on this list
It's blasphemy not to put buffcorrell's Idioteque cover
Correll really is the hero we never deserved
This comment made me look up Buffcorrell. Thanks for this.
I really love the cover of Street Spirit by the band Stream of Passion. The symphonic metal flair they brought to the song makes it feel much more dramatic than the original.
I love your videos, they make me feel educated.
This Song was my gateway to Jazz 😊
From one Regina Spektor fan to another, great video! I never knew Gnarls Barkley covered Radiohead!
Max haymer jazz trio-optimistic
Fantastic cover

Yes! Regina Spektor. Really like your channel.
What about Lianne la havas she covers weird fishes and kills it.
Gerald Robinson I was thinking about including her actually... there is a cool interview with her when she says that she thinks “In Rainbows” is one of the best albums of all time, and I agree with her!
That is truly a glorious cover
More Radiohead please.
Great job!
Thanks for introducing me to Regina Spektor! That version is literally breathtaking. Terrible pun I know, but it is.

I love that cover of High and Dry, but it always makes me think there was a duck in the studio.
You should really check out the Punch Brothers who do lots of covers of Radiohead songs- Jigsaw Falling Into Place, 2+2=5, Kid A and Paranoid Android amongst others- they really are great.
Creep - PMJ ft. Haley Reinhart is interesting too imo
Christina Liberatore brilliant
Check out Punch Brothers’ cover of Kid A. It’s all of the sounds replicated on traditional bluegrass band instruments. Astonishing really!
I feel like another important thing to consider for the deep breathing part of the Regina Spektor cover is that it is put into the part of the song where Thom Yorke is holding his breath underwater in the Radiohead music video.
Madison Cunningham’s No Surprises is wonderful, as is Lianne La Havas’s Weird Fishes
and an honorable mention is John Mayer’s cover of Kid A
This was awesome!
I also really love the version of Karma Police by the band/orchestra Mother Falcon!
Ane Brun’s take on “How to Disappear” is brilliant.

Hi David,

So is there a Regina Spektor song analysis video in the works?? (I'd also be down for a Fiona Apple analysis)
Wow!!! Just found your channel. Amazing analysis on progressions and musicality! You are very talented and have a phenomenal ear. Please keep this up!

My two favorites are Punch Brothers - Kid A. and Brad Mehldau - Paranoid Android (Live in Tokyo version)

Chris Thile’s cover of Knives Out is disturbingly beautiful and very unique. I recommend you check it out if you aren’t familiar.
My favorite of all: Gillian Welch and David Rawlings playing "Black Star".
Beautiful.
I think that Chris tile's cover of "Morning bell" should be on this list as well!!
The OKX: A Tribute to OK Computer cover album has a number of brilliant and interesting reimaginings, especially the David Bazan cover of "Let Down".
Oh my gosh that first one was breathtaking

Beats and pieces big band . Everything in its right place / just
Perfect
you should turn this into a series because there are SO MANY good ones
I thought this was going to be about Radiohead’s cover art for their albums, to which I was going to reply, “all of their album covers are creative”.
Mark Ronson - Just
Robert Glasper - packt like sardines
John Mayer - Kid A
Bob Reynolds - Subterranean homesick alien
Are the best covers
Rob space I love the Bob Reynolds ft. David Ryan Harris version. And of course John Mayer
I wasn't expecting to like the John Mayer one but I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was.

Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius pip. This album blew me away when it came out.

RadioFloyd235 None yeah. I can definitely hear it
watching these videos for an hour, this one reminded me the reason I came onto the app was to find their cover of Nobody Does it Better

WOW Never knew there were so many covers! I love Christopher O'riely covers, but got NO IDEA what he is doing with the harmonies
There are probably to many radiohead covers to cover *wink* But for those interested, The Punch Brothers do some really good Radiohead covers.
Dude the Tourist by Sarah Jarosz and the Punch Brothers
The Hanson´s - Optimistic.
