As an African from Seychelles, I cannot stop being proud of the new south Africa. Black or White we cannot change our past but can make a better future for all of us. Proud to support the Springbok.
Talked to a former "cape crusader" recently. He said seeing guys like Kolbe, Arendse, Willemse, Williams, Moody and Libbok playing for the Springboks could have been his own kids playing. He instantly realised that times have changed and his people are finally appreciated. That was the day he started supporting the Springboks. He also joked that the entire backline might as well be "kaapenaars".
I am from Asia, and I played rugby in high school and fell in love with the Springboks since then. Fate brought me to Durban some time ago, relocating for work. Amazing to see people coming together singing Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika regardless of their skin colours when Springbok play. Always gave me goosebumps.
That's awesome dude, I hope Durban is treating you nicely! So where in Asia are you from and how big is the rugby culture there? And did you have a specific player that swayed you to our side?
@@randomlyfactual1943 Durban is always in my heart. I am back in Singapore now, and still doing something related to Afro-Asia for my work. We do not have a big Rugby community for sure. As a Kiwi who spent time in Southern Africa thanks Trevor for your support over the years for the ABs, its great to see the unity in the stadium for the Boks and a great time for South African rugby. Come this weekend though we aim to spoil the party in Cape Town.
While I wish the Bokke would win, I am personally forever greatful to you, mighty AB. You are a deeply engrained part of our history. And we of yours. Kia ora!
Nelson Mandela, "Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire. It has the power to unite people in a way that little else does."
Sport is a temporary fix and/or even a catalyst for change. But for things to change, people have to change, and we all know how difficult it is for people to change. Even the Creator is struggling to change his own creation!
As a NZer myself I feel Trevor’s story transcends more than just the game itself. NZL was divided when the Springboks of old toured our country. You had the rugby public on the one spectrum focused on the game itself and you have what I call, the general public seeing a team representing apartheid, oppression and so on. It’s as if the likes of Trevor living in those times and hearing about the riots during the Springboks tour 81’ felt a sense of connection with NZL via the All Blacks. That is the power of sport. If you have read this far, thank you ☺️ 🇿🇦🇳🇿
THIS! I remember growing up and getting up in the early hours of the morning to watch the All Blacks vs Springbok match. Those are treasured times. Always a formidable team. Always our most revered rivals. It has been a beautiful journey of respectful rivalry. Saturday, we will do the same in the Mother City. Wellcome Oom Trevor. The green and gold look good on you
i find this all really beautiful. I totally appreciate and understand why so many non-white South Africans would not have supported the Springboks, and let's face facts, supporting a team as culturally rich and rugby-brilliant as the All Blacks makes total sense. I do hope that now they can at least be proud of what the Springboks stand for and, even if they still support the All Blacks, know that the team in green and gold now plays for them.
Touching, we should all forgive the wrongs of the past. The Springboks are a great example of what can be achieved when we unite and work together. Let's go people of South Africa, it starts with ME!
I was 9 years old when I first watch the springboks that was 95’ I was part of the struggle against oppression. I have supported them since then never missed a game… to hear your story is amazing im glad you are becoming part of the struggle towards victory ✌🏼 ❤
The Springboks come a long way. Once divisive, now uniting. Took a long while, but it's now in a very good place. We need to protect what we have because there are still radical voices that still prefer a divisive, racialised South Africa. Let's move forward
Uncle Heinrich you are such an inspiration, I played SA I played one year for WP, but I will never for get those words. Wow what a powerful moment of to actually change from the past to the future, may you be a beacon of light to those around you. Makes me think of this poem by Marrianne Williamson, and I think at some stage Madiba qouted: We are all meant to shine, As children do. I totally agree. i watched World Cup Final at fan park and really seen with my own eyes how a country can unite supporting the Boks. it was unbelievable and had me in tears. had the privilege of watching last weeks game at Ellis Park and to see all races unite and sing our Anthem in unity had me in tears again.
Who wouldve ever thought that the Springboks, the symbol of Apartheid, wouldve united South Africa in 1995 and re unite South Africa in 2019-2024. It can only be Gods Work.
Welcome home, you have lived & suffered through the injustice and now have the opportunity to once again be proud of the country you live in. The All Blacks have for many years been the best team in the world, but now its South Africas turn to carry that torch. Good luck Bokke, lets shine this weekend.
We see this exciting change finally happening with our own eyes. Started like a small swell thats growing into a tidal wave that cant be stopped. A great time to be alive. The start of good things.
I understand why you supported the All Blacks. And I understand why you came home. And I am so grateful that the Springboks are now representing all of us. And look how powerful we are when we work together! Rise Mzanzi! Rise! Godbless you all.
im not religious... so I dont know why I am even saying this... but watching this, all I can think of is that 'God is in the House'.... redemption, forgiveness, love...etc...
Considering how SA NZ supporters were getting abused for not supporting the SA sides as recently as the very late 2010s, I don't think many are going to change allegiance that quickly. Unfortunately many shitheads still exist, and are ruining people's pride for their country.
This is something i take very serious, as my dad was an All Black for the very same reason but he never forced me to be one we would always joke and work on each other's nerves when either The Boks or AB would win. It must of been tuff uncle but what respect I have for you sir.❤

When Siya Kolisi was first appointed captain by Rassie I told all my friends what it would mean for the country if he could lift that golden cup at the RWC, and now he has done it twice. Now, bear with me, and imagine for a moment to what next-level it would be if Salmaan Moerat, as a Moslem, can also do that? I get gooseflesh just thinking about it.
@@matthewwarman4693 Nobody cares about your identity politics. Imagine 23 South Africans running out to represent our nation. We are tired of your race politics.
Rassie was awfully prescient about this aspect of the game and, going back to the Madiba Magic of 1995 , all it was ever meant to be about; the Springboks representing all of South Africa and being backed by all of South Africa in return. The current Bok make-up and culture is doing a helluva lot in helping forge an identity for a young nation that is still figuring out who and what it is going to be: zero-excuses work ethic, overcoming adversity, sacrificing self for the good of the whole, and never ever giving up. At our best, we are the best in the world.
The struggle of SA is far from over. Fighting corruption and entitlement is still a very big thing. And also battling against the circumstances that keep so many people at or below minimal living standards. The crime and resentment is generates.... Sport unites, yes. But put the money where the mouth it in the political and social parts as well!
