Oh that’s sweet! Ya there really isn’t much info out there on these cars right now (which is why I make them) so I imagine back in the day there was probably nothing.
I have an RA20, very, very rare car. You need to adjust those valves and find out what's going on with the compression. There's a few different 18RGs and some don't have impressive power over the 18R because they don't have high compression and they aren't 4 valves/cyl. IDK what you've done since Jan/2021, but you probably have stuck rings and I can hear the valves ticking a mile away. You can put some solvent in each cylinder and let it soak, bring it up to temp fist, then pull all the plugs and put some solvent down each one, then let it sit. Rebuild the carbs, dump the gas, gas after a year or so can go bad. An RA20 in good condition can fetch mid to upper teens, good clean with a modified engine and new paint can get in the 20K range.
hey bro greetings I recommend that you put the gasoline pump as close to the gas tank and put a 14 psi regulator and calibrate it to 6 psi it works much better for you
the gasoline pump is made to pull a short distance and push a long distance do what I recommend so you can see are some old school tips my pump is Holley Brand
@@KevinSanchez-fx6oq good tip I will look into that. Someone told me not to go over 4psi for these carburetors. But getting a regulator would be smart! Thanks
If it holds 6 PSI, it is in case you are at High RPM it does not dry out of gasoline, you understand that is the detail and the pump must go back to the front, it heats up and lets draw gas, I already spend some of those same
Of course, yes, friend, we are always here to help each other from Puerto Rico, the 2T and 3T engines are struggling and remain on show. the most important thing is to put the gasoline pump near the tank
I can't comment on yours specifically but on my 66 Jaguar (Smith's guages) the capacitors in the tacho are known to go bad. Mine are on the way out. They are the common type you'd find in RadioShack or similar and super easy to replace 👍 cool car bro.
@@aretardridesmotard6128 Thanks that’s good to know! Still haven’t really messed with it. Will probably end up pulling the cluster out this summer to get a better look. Thanks for the advice 👍🏼
@@Mechanic_kid no problem buddy. There a buitiful car. Before I painted mine, I shifted the front side intercators, to just behind the rear front wheel arch just above the beauty line. Hey, nice first gen celica. When you were doing the compression test, did you have the throttle wide open? a closed throttle could lead to low readings. Check your ignition timing, static and total advanced. For tuning webers: www.lainefamily.com/images/WeberTuningManual.pdf I also recommend you install a wide band o2 sensor: www.aemelectronics.com/products/wideband-uego-air-fuel-controllers/digital-wideband-uego-afr-gauge/digital-wideband-uego-afr-gauge 18rg parts: www.rhdjapan.com/search/model/toyota_celica/car/toyota/brands/kameari Chassis parts - Technotoytuning: technotoytuning.com/toyota/ta22. Neil Reid thought about doing that! Good idea, might take those off and see if I can get a more accurate reading👍🏼 actually feel like I got it prey close tho. Lots more adjusting was done off camera as I didn’t really know what I was doing haha. Just saw your channel, nice Celica!
@@Mechanic_kid I'll watch the whole vid with sound and comment later. Have you got the fuel delivery sorted out ok. One thing i will suggest is a fuel pressure regulator and a fp gauge. you don't want any more than 4 psi. Too much pressure strains needle valve spring and can cause flooding
Neil Reid ya I thought about getting a fuel pressure gauge/regulator but I recently got a little 2-3.5psi electric fuel pump. It’s got a fuel cell in it at the moment since the og tank is rusty. Preview owner had a electric fuel pump on it but I didn’t know the psi of it so I put on a low poundage one because I was afraid of what your talking about with flooding ...
@@Mechanic_kid Watched the whole vid, looks like you know what you're doing and the carbs sounded good right off the hop. I've been messin with these cars since 74 so might be able to help if there's stuff you can't find or I'll know someone that can. Cheers!
That's the same car I had as my first car. I put the same engine in it too, except it had dual Mikunis.
Very cool! It’s a fun car for sure!
Amazing car and sounds awesome, can’t beat the song from a pair or side drafts
I know!!! Weber DCOE 45’s sounds great!!
I had an 82 celica. Wish I had these videos back then.

Those wires are absolutely terrifying! You say the same thing I do all the time: "not exactly sure what that thing does" :-D.

Nice good job
How do you connect electric fuel pump ?
Run it to your coil/ balast resister. That way it only has power when you turn the key on👍🏼
@MechanicKid perfect thank you
I have a corolla AE86 with a 3TC engine and I am making those adjustments and everything because I am going to mount weber 45 DCOE
Dual Weber’s are tough to tune but preform great!
I always wonder how to tune those type of Carbs.
Very difficult to tune! But I think I got them close

Not sure if its been found out yet but usually the tach is fed a signal from the distributor. Hope that helps somehow
Yep! Everything is plugged in so either there’s a break in the line or the tach has failed. Thanks for the advice🙏🏼👍🏼

where did you get the spark plug wires/what is the part number?
They are very hard to find!! Check ebay and if you get lucky a set will pop up. I believe toyhead auto sells them
put the fuel filter before the fuel pump also remove the mechanical fuel pump and and put a plate so oil doesn't go every where
Do a dry and wet compression test.
Seems to be running good now👍🏼 Ya I should’ve done both tho go tip
