Barn Find 1971 Toyota Celica ra20 with an 18RG engine JDM classic! First generation Toyota ra22

- I've been looking for a early first gen Toyota Celica for quite some time now! This one showed up and was local so I had to go check it out. This car has a 18R-GU Japanese dual overhead cam engine in it which was only offered overseas. The US model was an 18RC I believe which had a single overhead cam. Overall this car is in pretty good condition with minimal rust. New coil overs and suspension parts were included. This is going to be a fun project as we try to get this old classic back on the road. Stay tuned for more videos on this car!

Absolutely beautiful car mate! I need to upload some videos of mine. I got an RA23 in March 2020. Wish I knew more going in though, I would have waited for flat lights and RGU engine. Still happy with what I got though. You have a great base to work with and I love that color. That color restored looks absolutely superb!

Honestly think they can all be pulled off well but I'm not a purist. Liftback, trunk, both tail lights look about just as as good to me. Definitely like the facelift front more but I will take either one once I move some of the cars I've got.
You have a beautiful '72 Celica, and it sounds as nice as it looks. I had a '71 Celica which Ilasted for 22 years, then a foster daughter used to knock down a telephone/power pole, about 2 months after I had the car painted a very black including all of the trim and bumpers. It broke my heart to see that poor thing towed off.
Nice find,the back lights are different from later models,this looks like a 71 fully loaded model
One of my absolute dream cars! Still remember when they were seen in large numbers here in Switzerland and some older friends had one. Today they must be very rare since no one is collecting these gorgeous Japanese cars from the 70s. I just know there's an owners club here and have seen the members stopping on a tour in my city, but normally one doesn't see them on the road. They attract more attention than a Bugatti!
Yes they are getting very hard to find! The old JDM stuff is very popular right now!
The first celica in Switzerland 1971 st 1600 ta-22 is now in Norway
@@TBUENG3 Nice to hear that it is still existing! In my town there also was a Toyota Crown making advertisement for a cloth boutique. The owner had it for many years and the car disappeared when the owner died. Think it had a 6 cyl. and also very american looking.
Good score i just found a barn find myself 1970 rt52 Toyota corona 2 door hardtop parked since 1983 with 9,780 miles so ill be busy bringing her back from the dead

My dad had a mint one of these in the 80s it was a dark Bronze or brown but had the different back end to this one
Great find, only the gt, came with the 18rg engine, with the silver dash facial with the redline at 6500rpm. ST model single cam. And wood grain facial. The gt model grill is honey combed, great fined thu.

love the st grille. unfortunately mines misssing about 500 bucks in parts that arent worth fabricating. most likely go custom on everything else though since its in such bad shape at least to start out with.
@@Bawkr yes there a car that will never age. And increase in value. The indicators on the front nose, needs to be place rear of the front wheel arch to bring out the nose better as standard it some what looks out of place. The American bumper bars don't do the car any good. Just take time, rebuilding it, and the rewards are forth coming. 👍🇦🇺

Very nice barnfind it also got the flat lights that are super rare you also got techno toy touring camber plates and if you got coil overs you probably got the ae86front swap and Weber carburettors well done 👍if you need tips or info reply to me
B chnts Thanks! Yes it has adjustable coil overs and camber plates. Planning on rebuilding the suspension in an upcoming video with all new bushings. Stay tuned👍🏼
5:06 Tie-ota. That’s how they pronounce it in Texas. I know. I had a ‘71 Celica...while living in Texas. People mispronounced it ALL the time.

i have an ra20 with an 18rg myself. vin roughly around #5000. it's yellow and i plan on repainting it the blue yours is which is why i'm jealous haha
