I was born and raised in Philly. I started writing in 1979. I was known as BM. I was one of the creators of "super city bombers". I was also arrested and spent a summer forced to work for anti-grafitti network. Lol. I no longer write on walls and rooftops but I still spend a lot of time on paper and also now VR. Watching this brings back great memories. Thank you.

Philly is insane
I’ve been writing in Philly for about a year now and counting. What I love about graff in this city is how structured it is. Like writers here are insanely passionate and you really do notice how strong the Philly graff community is. I started off on my own but then I started meeting other writers who’ve been the game for decades. It’s surprisingly friendly. They don’t judge you for being a beginner and call you a “toy.” In fact, I’ve never heard that word ever here. We simply encourage each other to practice, practice, practice. Traditionally here, you get fathered into graff and that’s exactly how I learned everything. These oldheads tell you everything-how to work on your hand and how to get up. People from all over visit Philly to learn graff because we breed one of the best writers. The environment, the small city feel, the history... everything is perfect. But at the same time everything is also uniform and the culture is a bit conformist. We all use the same traditional alphabet modified with our own personal -isms but in terms of structure everything’s the same. Alphabets are passed down and you can even identify the writer who came up with the letter if you know enough history.

Kaex=KX in Philly writers sometimes spell out their abbreviations, it's DOPE when i first moved to Philly from New York in the 70s i got up with a lot of writers who used to do that.
Missing ppl like Lucas and Snipes hand styles is crazy, also the dude with the boxes in his throwie is Nylon, and I’ve seen him do mostly rollers on buildings

I'm a trucker....so I go up and down I-95 quite a bit. I love going thru Philly because the whole shit is bombed out. With lots of dope throws. Lots of GUS..and KAZ over there. Newark is another spot that's the freeway is bombed TF out. NYC has on the buildings but the freeway is pretty clean and it's disappointing. Shit even some spots in Connecticut have more than NYC. But Philly got the 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥.
I go I-95 to visit family and I often go through newark. You're 100% right, philly has some wild stuff. Newark has sick stuff too but I grew up there so it's all familiare. I don't get to go to NY often now days so it's sad to here there isn't much on the freeway around there.
@@Theartistblock over in NYC you have to look up...or over to the buildings. Even up in Hartford has more than NYC on the freeway. Allentown is starting to get some tags here and there on I-78 and RT 22 but not much. And idk what happened to Harrisburg but that ain't really bombed out at all. Its like they cleaned it up or something.

I can't really talk on that because I am only exposed to one side of the coin. I've watched Graff development from the NYC perspective. I just don't understand how someone from the BX thinks Philly has the upper hand. Come back home my brother!! Philly more dangerous nowadays anyway.
