I really appreciate people like you, who put out short, informative videos on topics like this. I wanted to know what the differences were before I bought them and now I can make an informed purchase. Thanks!
Thanks for taking the time to make this. I don't care about the fold or torque feature, but I want the ring light. Wouldn't have known about that without your vid. Thanks again.
These are great, many screw guns don’t have the soft start and it I’d hard to start a small screw when it starts so fast. This gives you total control. I just ordered one, I do a lot of repairs etc and this should be perfect, it Also has the best batteries also.
Thanks for the review. That was really helpful, but you didn't say about the torque!! The right one is the torque power fixed on it?? Or how it works? Because the left one you can change it but the right one doesn't have a clutch!!
Well done. Good info and well presented. (Though the vid resolution is super low. But I'd guess you probably have that and the mic echo issue fixed by now since this is 5 years old.) I'd add that, going by online reviews I've seen since I purchased mine, and had issues, that many folks have had an issue with it sometimes working and sometimes not. (By far the most 1-star reviews I've ever seen for a DeWalt product.) My 682 was one of those and it was extremely frustrating the way it cut on and off. I never knew when it was going to work. But I found in those reviews a few people being helpful and describing that the issue is the battery making a constant connection in the body. What I read suggested taking the battery apart to sproing [technical term] out the contacts on the battery. I'd just moved and couldn't find my security bits so I couldn't take my battery apart but I _finally_ managed to find a thin/sharp tool (that was also strong enough) to be able to reach into the very tight space and lift the contacts enough to bend them such that good contact is made w/ the contacts in the body. After that it's been working beautifully! Nary an issue. Not once. And, for musicians, it's ****ing perfect for stringing/unstringing (or simply loosening strings to adjust truss rod or whatever) guitars and basses! Also works great on drum heads! I use mine so much for that, that I'm likely going to get one of the swivel ones for everything else that doesn't call for getting out the big guns. This works better than anything else I've tried for that purpose. The amount of control is simply amazing. I wish I could feather all my screwguns/drills, and other power tools, so precisely. None of that "oops, too much" or trying to very careful nudge up a trigger to hit the speed/torque you want. By now, it's starting to feel like an extension of my body almost. That said, the 682 at least isn't very heavy duty but I have other tools to fill those needs. Note I'm also hearing and seeing that DeWalt is no longer making the batteries. (WTF?) Are they going to quit making both screwdrivers? That would be a shame if they're not replaced. But, as far as I can tell, those two are the only 8V products. I could see an issue there. Cheers!
I have one, but the palava to get one in UK is brain numbing... Dewalt US seems to have the toys and Dewalt UK seem to be the back-markers. Besides that, even though your great video is 4 years old, these little units, if you can find one, are twice the price you stated... in GBP numbers! UK/US trade is a joke. But, nice toy. Nice video.
Hi I have drill into hard surfaces to install a barrel bolt on awood door and the clamp housing it slides into to lock the door, on/into a hard metal door frame. Is this a power tool that you think this will do the job of drilling with a hard drill bit into the wood and the metal? If not what is a good recommendation for a under 50-100. drill tool. Thanks / great review / new sub > nyc
You might be able to get it done if you go slow and might have to recharge the battery. This tool was made mostly for small tasks around the house. Drywall screws and the like. Maybe an occasional hole in some thin wood. If you use some self tapping screws, you might be able to get it in the metal with ease.
Man, I have had the folding one for probably 4-5 years and just always thought it didn't work. Never occurred to me to turn my wrist. Unbelievable!!! Thanks for the video!
The foldable one appears to be a bit smaller? Need room in tool bag. Bought one but battery is not staying in properly so unless I put the heel of hand to hold it tight it won't work.
peacelesssam it’s molded to fit in your hand with it on top. If I got two left shoes I can just put one of them on my right foot, but it’s more comfortable to use them like they’re designed...
I love the screw driver. But I still don't see the point why push a trigger and also you have to twist hand. Double work. I wish they had just a trigger version.
The way you use the 'trigger' is you basically just hold the tool, which you have to do anyways, with or without a trigger. This just allows for immediate changing between forward and reverse, without messing with an extra switch.
Sorry Jeffery, after doing some extensive bench testing. The batteries will last on average 3 hours of continuous use without a load. The time will decrease depending on the amount of load placed on the system. Could be between 1 to 3 hours. The gyroscopic function does consume a small amount of energy as well which decreases the run time. But minimally.
...uhmm....yea...everything sound"good"....Of course..I "want" it something like that..for a couple years...without any problems...but..at the end..when you need it..the "gyroscopic" doesnt work..and a lot of problems start.....and finally I have to throw it away...Better to use my old fashion tool ...they never fail..../.

@@danmorgoshi7598 that is just brand loyalty. You just picked a name and fell in love with it with no evidence. Also, why do you talk so weird with lots of dots? Very very strange.
Great concept, but horrible manufacturing. I'm on my 4th one in 26 months. I'd happily pay 2x the price if they were made better. But that's been the sad case with Dewalt as a whole since 2018.

I have them both and I'm kinda obsessed with them
Thanks for the explanation I'm definitely getting the foldable one now
Excellent review, thank you! I appreciate that your video is so detailed, I can now make an informed purchase.
Thank you for your fine demonstration.
Does the DCF680 and DCF682 have the same amount of torque? I can't find a comparison online. Thank you in advance.
The adjustable handle says 60inch/lbs and other says 23inch/lbs. Though the adjustable handle says 1.3ah battery and the other says 4ah battery.
Thanks for the review. That was really helpful, but you didn't say about the torque!! The right one is the torque power fixed on it?? Or how it works? Because the left one you can change it but the right one doesn't have a clutch!!
Please consider doing a review on the flashlight that uses the same battery
Nice review! Thanks so much.
Will you come to tucson Arizona and fix interstate 10. Thx
I’ve had the 82 for the longest time and I totally love it!!! About to order the 80 just to have another one.

Thank you for your input and insight.
amazing tools..
Did you compare, are they comparable in terms of torque?
Yes. They will both drive a three inch wood screw no problem. Only difference is folding or not.
Needed this thanks! Wasnt sure if I should renew the 680 or just get the new 682..
Excellent video. Just what I needed. Taking back straight one! Need foldable!

I guess next time I'll read the manual.
LOL
You joking right?
Nope, true story. Only had one electric screw driver before and it didn't have a gyroscope in it.
I just can't begin to imagine what goes on inside other people's minds
Quite possibly the only electric screw gun with variable speed and soft start and stop.
The foldable one appears to be a bit smaller? Need room in tool bag. Bought one but battery is not staying in properly so unless I put the heel of hand to hold it tight it won't work.
No, didn't you watch? The one on the left is larger. That one is foldable
Which has more torque?
I believe they are both the same. Only difference between the two is that one can switch to pistol grip.
will that bit holder fit onto the dcf682n1 also?
Doctor Who would be proud. 😎 Good review!
I get he doesn't have that many views, but serious how is there no comment about delicate screwing? 2:26
thanks!!
Uh, the trigger is on "top" of the 680 but you know you can just turn it over right?

Hilarious
Which is better?
all depends on what you are going to use it for. I would get the DCF 680. Light is better and you can fold it.

if they only had a trigger (no hand twisting) then you would also need a forward/reverse switch, as found on many other guns.
When you pull the trigger, you fix the zero position from where you rotate. You have to give the starting orientation to the tool somehow.
I thought the same thing but Oh, it's great. So convenient.

If the inline had a clutch, it would be my first pick
