If I was going to give a single suggestion. ArmA doesn't model this correctly, but engines usually need to spool before giving a set amount of power. I.e in the case of a Bolter it takes time for the aircraft to spool back up its engines. Because of this, its common to throttle the engines all the way up just prior to touchdown. in the case of a bolter you're already set for a go-around. But, this is ArmA, and this was a great landing.
Watched the vid and landed it first try (I struggled before) thanks bro. Crazy how far back you can land and still catch the stopping rope. I thought I was going to overshoot
Yea the speed is based on the AoA Indexer feedback. I also fly a steeper approach than what is recommended by the glideslope, which IMHO is too far right and too shallow of an angle for a carrier approach.
The shallow glide slope has been mentioned before in the Jets DLC feedback thread at BI forum. I grew up playing Flight of the Intruder, Fleet Defender, US Navy Fighters, Jane's F/A-18E Hornet etc. So I am fairly familiar with carrier landings in general. You kinda built a mental picture of how the approach should look like after a while.
Question about the AoA Indexer at 2:27 Does ArmA model it that way or is the description incorrect? Correct Description: www.researchgate.net/profile/Lisa_Le_Vie/publication/277331189/figure/fig4/AS:669419483189261@1536613450920/AoA-Indexer-Odle-1972.png
sounds like they've finally fixed the AoA issue the patch after release making a good AoA (-3 GS/+5 pitch) at 270-280. sadly the patch messed up the arresting gear.
It would be too boring for the second player, that's why they didn't add a second seater. You sometimes get bored as a gunner for attack helicopter, imagine this. The only plane I'd ' see with more seats is like an AC-130(which we already have, kinda'). And maps aren't that big to support such massive air operations.
Hi, I'm fairly new to flying. Very useful video, thank you. Are you able to explain to me point 9 please? I don't know what a glideslope nor do I know how to use it. Thanks.
Think of the glideslope like a water slide, ie the glideslope itself is the slide and the carrier as the pool. You get on it and it guides you safely onto the deck. The two vertical and horizontal bars that appears in the middle of the HUD at 2:05 are the ILS needles, under normal circumstances you align them in the middle of your HUD so they form a cross, which tells you that you're aligned with the deck centerline and on the correct glideslope. However ArmA 3's ILS code is meant for land-based airfields which typically have a very shallow 3 degrees glideslope. Carriers usually have a steeper (6-8 degrees if I recall correctly) glideslope to account for the boat pitching up and down with the sea. So for ArmA, you use as a guide until you can see the deck visually and adjust. At 4:05 is pretty much how the ILS needles need to be aligned for ArmA, off to the right and down slightly.
If you're on KB+M, keep an eye on the thrust percentage numbers, might be a good idea to rearrange the layout so that you can easily glance at it. Also, don't forget airbrakes, which is X on the new keybind.
Or you can just let The plane take over and land it self. And I wouldn’t be surprised if the US navy is working on a feature similar to this it would help pilots landing at night or during a storm
Hey man, thanks a lot for the video, very useful!! Do you mind telling me how you got the action menu on the middle of the screen? I've been trying to do that for ages :/
Thanks a lot for replying. I have been fooling around with that GUI system but the action menu doesn't appear as an option? Am I missing a setting or so?
In real life or DCS yes. But not in ArmA 3. If you do that in ArmA 3 the game will think you want to go around/bolter, so it will raise the tailhook and reset the wires. You'll end up sliding off the deck.
If I was going to give a single suggestion.

it's not arma's bad, in real life engines don't just go to afterburner instantly as well - all engines need time to raise power
First proper landing ive seen so far after the release of the dlc :,)
I STILL CANT LAND ON THIS CARRIER BUT THE NIMITZ IS JUST FINE FUUUUUU
You're flying this thing so amazingly smooth, respect! To keep altitude and airspeed is so crazy hard for me in A3...
Thanks, don't worry about it, with enough practice it'll become second nature.
or you could just get a hotas
Watched the vid and landed it first try (I struggled before) thanks bro. Crazy how far back you can land and still catch the stopping rope. I thought I was going to overshoot
Nice video with your step by step guides. Although you do land at a much higher speed than I would, I usually land at about 240.
Yea the speed is based on the AoA Indexer feedback. I also fly a steeper approach than what is recommended by the glideslope, which IMHO is too far right and too shallow of an angle for a carrier approach.
MK84 irl your back wheels would get fucked up by the fantail of the cariier
MK84 and you would get your ass shouted at and thats if you dont get your wings taken away
LoL yeah. Probably get a turd as well on the board.
MK84 lol
Of all the other youtubers I watched play this you are the only one who has noticed the extremely shallow glide slope. Provided by the ILS.
MK84 That's the idea. But this game is going to mess up people's mental pictures if they really care to follow it.
Extremely helpful, thank you!
My pleasure.
Does anyone know how to make a AI take off form this
Now try that on a moonless night, heh-heh.
And with sea state 7. O_o
and with a hurricane >.
Great realism(with the good mod for, with working instruments)!
Its the dlc...
@@nighthawk5936 I never saw this plane in a DLC, but okay.
Gorgeous landing mate
I know how to land on a Carrier but I thought those arrows where that you too high or too low.
Yeah AOA mean angle of attack, so yes and no it means you need to lower or raise your nose to be on course

how to lower the tail hook
Check the keybinds.

What does FPV stand for? I mean the abbreviation.
Flight path vector.
Ah ok, thanks alot! A very informative and good video!
This is good, although it is a lot of exaggeration. You can land directly if you know how to anticipate.
Can you fly these jets with 2 people online?
All the DLC Jets are single-seaters.
It would be too boring for the second player, that's why they didn't add a second seater. You sometimes get bored as a gunner for attack helicopter, imagine this. The only plane I'd ' see with more seats is like an AC-130(which we already have, kinda'). And maps aren't that big to support such massive air operations.
Sum Won there are some mod jets that have two seats.
Alternatively you can play online with the two of you in different jets acting as wingmen.

MK84 thanks for the thorough explanation. I'm going to give it another go tonight.
Great landing i give that 10 scores
could you fly planes with mouse and keyboard?
great video. thanks.
can u make a video with the xian too
Sure, in the meantime Imperator TFD has one vid with the Xian here:

How did you move the left and right panel away from the default position on the side? They just don't show up in the layout option.
I did it with the standard Layout Editor. If they don't show up, could be a bug.
Where is the HUD?
The F/A-181 uses HMDs
you make it look so fucken eazy like for real
Do you have any tips to control the speed with the new thrust system?
If you're on KB+M, keep an eye on the thrust percentage numbers, might be a good idea to rearrange the layout so that you can easily glance at it.

Nice
Helpful Tutorial
What settings do you use for free look? I have to use a button which i control with my thumb, but it's slow and uncomfortable.
I use TrackIR
Thank you for this. Do you mind if I make a video based on this info? I'm not popular, but I will give you credit.
The info is available online on declassified NATOPS.
Or you can just let The plane take over and land it self. And I wouldn’t be surprised if the US navy is working on a feature similar to this it would help pilots landing at night or during a storm
every time i do it just rolls off the deck like it isn't using the tailhook
Cool video!
Hey man, thanks a lot for the video, very useful!! Do you mind telling me how you got the action menu on the middle of the screen? I've been trying to do that for ages :/
It's under Options - Game - Layout. You can rearrange the GUI to your liking.
Thanks a lot for replying. I have been fooling around with that GUI system but the action menu doesn't appear as an option? Am I missing a setting or so?
It's the same window box you give commands to AI.
Oooh! Finally, I was able to do it. Thank you so much man, appreciate it =D !!
Very smooth! I'm guessing you're using some kind of joystick controller?
Yup I use the TM HOTAS Warthog.
aha, wow, CASE 1 procedures in arma 3 :D
How do you control your speed? Do you use speed limiter?
No speed limiter, just standard analog throttle and airbrakes.
nice layout nice vid
That was beatiful
Winner winner chicken dinner!!
lmao
Hey dude , I use this vid on my channel(aparat)
nice
bro youre supposed to go full throttle after you catch the wire in the video you went full throttle way too late
In real life or DCS yes. But not in ArmA 3. If you do that in ArmA 3 the game will think you want to go around/bolter, so it will raise the tailhook and reset the wires. You'll end up sliding off the deck.
@@MK84 Ooft
greth video greeat for milsim trhx
Just use automatic landing if you are too lazy
Your AOA wasn't that great.
