Hanover is a lot nicer than most people think. I have lived in Hanover the last 24 years, and it has never felt boring to me. Living in a particular city is quite often what you make it.

This is amazing. As someone who lived 6 years in Hannover myself, i didn't know everything you said before. I went to elementary school in Vahrenwald, then i returned to study at the uni and lived in Linden-Süd. During my time at the university i almost never used the bus or tram, i always walked - through the Leinemasch and the Georgengarten. Beautiful.

Hannover is a beautiful city to live.
Not to big, a lot of green, the Maschsee, Eilenriede and a lot of places to go to... but sadly, especialy a lot of small music clubs were closed over the time.

the pub "das Trümchen" was closed due to withdrawl from the lease contract by the city of hannover, wich was done, because the Beginenturm started to show signs of losing structural integrity and was deemed dilapidated. restauration has been done, but not suficcient enough to reopen the tower back for public.
the pub was quite nice, a medival style pub with 3 levels, each small and cosy, with some drinks, that are still legendary in the "dark scene" in hannover. (rostiger nagel)
but visiting the bathroom or leave when you drank to much in the upper levels was a nightmare.....
the pentagram on the marktkirche is a protection sign against fire ;)
the eilenriede is the largest still existing medival city forest and the herrenhäuser gärten are the second largest barrok gardens in the world after versailles.
also nice places are just on the other side of the road of the herrenhäuser gärten lies the berggarten, the former botanic garden of the royal summer palace.
the hannover zoo is also quite nice after its rework

This generalization of "beautiful" and "good" cities as well as "ugly" and "bad" cities is annoying. Most cities have good and bad sides. The public perception often arises from reports in the media and many people express this as their own opinion without ever having been to these cities. And if they were there, then often only briefly and didn't even see most of them.

This thing with moving cities is very strange to me. I lived in some of the most beautiful cities but somehow I was never truly happy in these places. It's so hard to forget home sometimes. And the saddest thing: sometimes we move back to our hometown but it has changed, so it only exists in our memories, very strange feeling.

It was never in a list of cities that are worth to visit, but your video showed me, that Hannover has much more than a clear German without accent (which isn't true, everyone from Hannover, I ever spoke wasn't able to say Kirche, going to church sounds always like going to cherry, Kirsche. The thing about the pentagram on the Marktkirche it represents the five holy wounds of Jesus. Some people are a bit irritated by that. Well, ok, it's a bit funny, too.
Just one point, there is a history before the white settlers came there. Even it is often forgotten, but this is the story for another time.
Hannover was great in horses. The Hanoverian horses were the fundament for the Celle State Stud - really big thing for the cavalary and the war on Napoleon
So, in this sense: For the queen and the personal union ;)

    @godsowncountry3605 2 роки тому

The horse in front of the university (which once was build as a palace for the hanovarian royals in the nineteens century but never came into use) actually is the "Saxon Steed" which is considered to be an anciend symbol of the old saxon tribes who lived in northern Germany in the early Middle Ages. It´s shown on the flags of Lower Saxony but also in the coat of arms of the county of Kent in England and the region of Twente in the Netherlands. A white horse on red ground.

Very nice video. Thank you for showing us around the city of Hannover. With so many places to see it doesn't look like it could possibly be boring at all! Looks like yet another beautiful German city.
BTW, loved the part where you were skipping through the garden. lol!

Thank you...and the title is very sarcastic because there are locals that do think Hannover is boring but they have never lived anywhere else and do not plan to move. Hannover is wonderful, and I could easily make another hour of material!
and to see me skipping...that's when you know i'm happy🤣

@@KrautsalatAnAmericaninGermany I started watching your videos because I enjoy seeing Germany from the eyes of someone else living there but who is not a natural citizen. My family and I are from the USA. We have made 3 trips to Germany and it is one of our favorite countries to visit. I would love the opportunity for an extended stay so your videos showing us around kinda gives me a glimpse of what it might be like to actually have the time to really explore. And, also I gain inspiration for traveling back again in the future!
I think we may have changed trains in Hannover but it looks like next time I should hop off and look around for a while. I love seeing all the varied architecture and learning about the details and history behind each place. I'd love to see another video if you decide to share another hour of material.
I'd also like to say that in this video I noticed a nice improvement in your video making skills. I expect it gets better every time and I thought this video was really exceptionally done. Kudos... and stay happy!

I remember 'Der Turm' Pub. It was a really nice medieval inspired Pub. Nice food, mead and not too expensive. Sadly, they closed it down almost 13 years ago. Such a shame.

Berlin is crazy. I enjoy city life but Berlin is probably too much for me. If i left Hannover I would go to Hamburg, also a big city but it feels small to me. And I have always felt a draw to being there.

From 1241, the city of Hanover was granted a right of joint use of the woodlands of the Eilenriede. In 1371 it was donated to the citizens of Hanover by Dukes Wenzeslaus and Albrecht of Saxony in thanks for their support in the Lüneburg War of Succession. This gave the citizens the right to use and maintain the forest area, which at the time covered 465 hectares, as their property. At the same time, there was an obligation to expand the forest area. It was hardly possible to build on the predominantly swampy terrain, so the character of the forest was preserved for centuries.
