@Ozpin i agree you did absolutely nothing wrong and you were justified in keeping your secrets (I mean how do you tell the people you're an immortal Wizard who can reincarnate?) and Salem and the Gods to an extent were at fault for everything which begs the question what did you saw in her anyways?
Ozpin is my favorite character and I really believe that he isn’t evil but may not make the best decisions but he’s at least doing something about everything instead of standing around and that is what counts in my book
This man literally kept the entire world safe for centuries. So many generations of people were able to live full and happy lives because of him. Lying (he has good intentions) doesn't make him evil it makes him human. He's definitely my favorite character in RWBY
When ozpins secret was discovered I was shocked how everyone treated him that way! He rly is a good person but he went through a lot that it was hard for him to trust I don't get how ppl don't understand. It's just like in any shows that a character that ppl trusted and never expected betrays That could happen with oz but if that was the case oscar would probably sense it since they share thoughts and memories Oh while I'm at it I don't think ironwood is bad either He is just troubled
Yeah, most people who understand Ozpin’s position also get Ironwood’s. Bc everything else is fantasy and idealistic, while the mindset of these two characters are extremely realistic. But in the show, looking at something realistically, or even pessimistically, can get you seen as the villain... Which I don’t understand, because...while neither have a solid plan, they *have always been* trying their best with what limited time and options they had.
They lashed out at him, only to realize later that keeping Salem's immortality a secret was actually the right move, since everyone who figures it out ends up giving up the fight against her.
This was explained to me and I loved the explanation. So here you go. Huntsman and Huntresses are soldiers. They put their lives in the hands of their leaders trusting they will put their services to use. And even if they die, it would be for a good cause. Serve purpose. Ozpin’s past didn’t bother them. It was that EVERYONE put into this war by Ozpin couldn’t hope for a better outcome. There was no progress for something better because Salem could literally just keep going. The Grimm would never stop spawning. That’s Hazel’s mindset too. And being guards for people likely wouldn’t have bothered them. But that’s not what they were trained for. They were trained for war outright. Ozpin is not at all bad. Of course he isn’t. But his secret took away a great deal of helpfulness of their jobs. As they transformed it in the following volumes, they got stronger and healthier. (The better the huntsman and huntress, the more they acted like guards and not soldiers.) So I get it from a soldier’s perspective. (I’m not one, but I understand the situation better that way)
Thanks for making this video. I've heard so many comments about Oz being evil and Salem being a misunderstood good guy and thought it didn't make sense. People saying Oz was manipulating children to die for a futile cause when, 1. the 1st years were 17 and 2. no one was saying that about the naruto universe and they were 12 when they started if not younger.
While Ozpin/Ozma may not be good by our definition doesn't make him evil. He has made mistakes like any other person it's just he had more time to make more mistakes due to his curse of reincarnation. As for Salem being a misunderstood good guy is completely crazy and hear me out. Salem is an immortal entity, and I say entity because she no longer qualifies as human. She manipulated others and caused the deaths of lots of people, human and faunus for her selfish goals. How exactly can she be considered a misunderstood good guy? In conclusion Salem is definitely a bad person no misunderstandings while Ozpin is in more of a grey area than anything else, not ultimately good but not evil.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but PLENTY of people don't watch shonen anime for that exact reason. Children fighting and dying and the adults just letting them or setting them up to it. Cultural differences maybe, but there's a fine line between accepted risk and throwing away lives for the fun of it (see Attack on Titan's logic vs Soul Eater's logic). Also, dude, I felt guilty watching the Hunger Games film because we were hypocrits by doing so. "Hurr durr, let's support Hollywood by watching kids fight to the death while talking about how the Capitol's so evil by making and watching kids fight to the death!" Oz is evil, but less evil than Salem.
@@Undomaranel Well, I never said Oz wasn't evil, that remains to be seen. The writers are making this up as they go. I just said that it was strange to call him manipulative based on the fact that there is a job that exists that is similar to our military where 17+ year olds fight for their homelands. These characters have wanted this career since they were children. And Ozpin only asked Pyrrha bc she is the school's best fighter. He asked her, he didn't trick her or lie about the dangers of it, or anything like that. He may be evil, but not for this reason is all I'm saying.
Ozpin isn't evil. He TRIES his best to be good. But he's been alive so long, living in constant stress and fear, that his rationality has been withering away into paranoia. He kept all those secrets because he didn't want the team to lose hope and choose to lay down and die.
I love this show’s characters. They’re so unique! Ozpin: he’s trying his best to defeat Salem but has no idea how. With her being immortal, he has no other choice but to throw his students at her in hopes of slowing her down. This often ends up with the students dying and it does seem like no matter how many students die, Salem can never actually be fully stopped, but Ozpin knows that he needs to continue putting road blocks in the way so the entirety of humanity doesn’t die. Raven: she became fully aware of what Ozpin was doing but instead of seeing it through his eyes, she believes that there is so much wasted life in what he’s doing. Instead of just being sacrificed though just to merely slow down Salem for a day, she divided from Ozpin to live her life, only seeing the fact that Ozpin used the students as if they were just salt on the ice. She’s not necessarily an antagonist but she will fight the good guys if they try anything that goes against her thinking. Ironwood: he wants to do what’s best and save as many people as he can. With Ozpin gone from the picture, he has to try and make decisions for himself without Ozpin’s insight. Then when Ozpin gets to Atlas, Ironwood discovers that he’s been lied to from the very start, and now he has to make desperate decisions just to keep the relics out of Salem’s grasp. He then turns into this tyrannical leader who believes everything he’s doing is correct since if not, everyone is going to die. You can clearly see that from his perspective, he is the hero. I could go on and on about how well the motivations of the characters are. They’re just so interesting.
Ozpin’s battle was pretty epic. He dodged all those crystals and had a poker face after he dodged them. Idk, ozpin is my favorite character he’s just a wise man, and he doesn’t have such a complicated weapon, but he uses it in a simple way that makes even the most bland things see awesome.
Since this is the situation and Ozpin can't be evil, it kind of makes me wonder why he gave so much of his power away to the four maidens. I get that they were kind and all but they CAN be evil. Ozpin can't ever be evil, even in his reincarnations, because his soul has to combine with that of a like-minded person. so why give untold power to four woman who have little to no control of where it goes to?
I honestly argue he was. And that the whole issue of his isolation was him more or less giving up on the world after failing one too many times. And if these girls just brought him *out* of a deep apparently hopeless depression as the Wizard, then he's not going to be in a particularly sound mental state, except this time to the opposite extreme. He's so beyond grateful that he sacrifices part of his own magic to repay their kindness. On a side note, I wouldn't be surprised if he regrets creating the maidens.
@@worldweaver2691 that's deep dude, he did have four kids and it is assumed they died. So his act of giving them power could've been due to how he missed his children

good job on this video. Really, not many people see his side. He lived practically a long life, and he hid things, maybe lied a bit, but when you have been betrayed multiple times, it bound to happen that he is careful. To those that Justified Ruby's decision, and still putting Oz in the bad light, well it isn't really fair and the same. Ruby, who did something similar to Ironwood can be justified, but you can't compare that when Ruby has never lived hundreds of years, or has been betrayed multiple time that you get sick of it. this can affect your mentality saninty.
Ozpin was alive since before the kingdoms were even established, he’s lived through thousands of lifetimes carrying an extremely heavy burden, so in a way, he too is cursed like Salem. Cursed to walk the earth forever. Until the gods return.
Agreed, Ozpin is a good guy. Obviously he's not flawless and yes he's done some bad stuff but ultimately his heart is in the right place. People give him way too much flack. In some ways he reminds me of the Doctor from Doctor Who, a man who is far from perfect and who has done a fair share of questionable things but is still good and in the end more troubled than evil. Just a man traumatized by all he's been through and being reincarnated over and over again.
Hell, who's to say Ozpin isn't also based off the doctor? Both can reincarnate (or regenerate) both are THOUSANDS of years old. Both have made so many mistakes that changed them. (For oz, not telling Salem the truth, for the doctor? Wiping his own kind out of existence). They really are similar...
Ozpin is one of my favorites, People try and villainize him for mistakes hes made, secrets kept and that he keeps his cards close to his chest. But in the end, He is simply trying to do what is best, and keep the people of remanent safe
He is good its just in volume 6 he didint want anyone knowing that salem is immortal because they might side with salem. Like Torchwick was saying If you cant beat them join them
He is an old soul, more heartache than any man has a right to experience, and more burdens than any man has ever been given. The woman he loved is his enemy. The friends he makes must be sacrificed to the war or time itself. Death offers no freedom or comfort. He must live by stealing the body mind and soul of others. He cannot win. He can only hold off defeat. One man, who must unite a world constantly trying to tear itself apart, for the sake of two Gods who abandoned the world. It impresses me how he never turned evil.
Yeah anyone who thinks Ozpin is a bad person doesn't understand/likes rooster teeth bad writing. People who say he recruits child soldiers miss the point that they don't become huntsmen until after they graduate. Sure they can enlist in missions that may involve fighting Grimm, or places like forever fall. But these locations tend to have weaker Grimm.
I'm probably the biggest Cinder fan around, and yet I still don't know why people would consider Ozpin to be "evil". Everything he does, he thinks he's doing the right thing, just like Cinder does. He's very guilty over what he does. Neither side in RWBY is "evil". The world isn't black and white.
Cinder doesn't think what she is doing is right, she just wants power and thinks Salem can give it to her. I do not know what Salem's goal is so I can not say if she believes she is doing the right thing.
"Cinder doesn't think what she is doing is right, she just wants power" Nope, no, nada. Go listen to Sacrifice, it makes it very clear. She does not "just want power". Salem's goal is to overthrow Ozpin. This is made clear in Divide verse 3.
"the 2 brothers who created the world are supposedly pure creation and good and pure evil and destruction" This is why they're a shitty plot device that doesn't fit the world of RWBY at all.
In volume 3 chapter 7 Cinder said she wanted to be powerful, and Salem gave her that power, Later in volume 4 Salem mentioned this, I think it was chapter 11.
Thank you. I was genuinely confused about Ozpin's morality because I read RWBY fanfiction before the actual show (I know that's stupid don't @ me.), and I read one where he was crazy and one where he was basically himself and I wondered, what's this guy's deal?
I haven’t watched all of the series (I just started Volume 4) but isn’t his whole thing that and Salem have been fighting for centuries while Salem is not only basically Satan but her ultimate plan is to literally kill everyone? The only other thing I know about him is that he is why Qrow and Raven can change into birds which provides no discomfort and is something they use with no drawbacks but the show tries to paint as some sort of evil act (Yang whines to him about it).
I don’t need to watch this video. I never thought he was evil anyway even though he lied and lost everyone’s trust, even the nice gal, Ruby Rose, who likes just about everyone
The last time he was seen alive he was fighting Cinder so it is reasonable to assume she killed him, though I don't know how, from what is shown of the fight he appears to be winning. If you have a theory on what really happened I would like to hear it
I mean.... i thought that was pretty clear. Hes not Evil hes more frustrated with the fact that salem cant be defeated but he still needed to keep up the hope... which is hard when you fight an enemy you litteraly cant kill so he started lying, not believing in the humans around himself because of MAAAASSIV trust issues... but i can see why you made the video, a lot of fans are... lets say hella stupid xD
In his first reincarnation Ozma took the drivers seat, making the selfish decision to be with the woman he loved despite her corruption, until his host snapped him out of it. In later reincarnations it seemed that Ozpin took the back seat and only advised his host on decisions. So I believe that Ozpin will let Oscar be the driver and only advise him, the only reason he's taking so much control now is because Oscar is likely the youngest and least experienced host he's had. In his previous lives his host's have had wives and children and there didn't seem to be a problem. I think that for Ozpin it won't bother him for Oscar to be in a relationship, since he's experienced it multiple times. I think it might be awkward for Oscar and Ruby, who are both much younger and less experienced, but I think after struggling with it for a while they will come to terms with it. I think Salem might also make it a little awkward because of her relationship with Ozma. I also have a theory on how Salem will be defeated. Salem is immortal, so she can't die, but she wasn't completely evil until she jumped into the pool of grimm slime, she was just angry, and later, depressed. Ruby's eyes destroy grimm, so if she uses them on Salem, it may destroy the grimm side of her, while keeping the human side intact. After being restored to her true self I think Ozpin may be able to convince her to stand down. I think the gods will end up being summoned and decide to spare humanity, they will remove the curse on Salem and she will die. Maybe Ozpin's soul will be extracted from Oscar and go with Salem to the afterlife, and Oscar can live a normal life. That would remove the awkwardness of Oscar liking Ruby while having an old man inside his mind.
Meybe Ozpin isn't evil but OZMA can be. As far as i understand Ozma is in the soul of our so called Ozpin. Ozma is the one that fell in love with Salem. I think that everyone calls him Ozpin instead of Ozma coz they aren't intradused to him (Ozma) and also it become a habit to call him Ozpin insted of Ozma. In his new body they call him Oscar not Ozpin or Ozma, now don't they? Have you ever considered that?
You say Ozpin Can Not be Evil but when he dies he takes over an unwilling hoast and takes over their life, letting the original soul die if that's not evil then I don't know what is… Ozpin is a wraith pure evil incarnate
Caleb Brazeau Counter what? Ozpin is an ancient being that have been manipulating people since ever. So everything he say or do may be nothing more than just part of his game and he may still be evil.
Kutaly L see? You have no proof of ozpin being evil while this guy is pointing out his compassion, his circumstances, and the fact he owns up to his mistakes.
There has been hints been given even in the first episode of Volume 1 that Ozpin is secretly the true main villain of rwby in disguise. I believe Ozpin is a manipulative and deceptive hypocrite who uses and disposes mankind in his war efforts against Salem. RWBY Volume 3's song Divide only solidifies the confirmation of Ozpin's true nature.
I have seen a lot of shows and what fans like about the shows, and I know people like the idea of a very intelligent villain tricking everyone into thinking they are good, like Führer King Bradley in Fullmetal Alchemist, but Salem is very clearly a villain and Ozpin is against her. This video shows the signs that he cares about people, and it has shown that Salem doesn't care about people. Look at this conversation between Salem and Ozpin: ua-cam.com/video/XiCPlvkeA94/v-deo.html Also Divide is talking about Salem's plan to destroy everything, she is telling Ozpin that he has no chance at beating her and that she will kill any of his allies, she is trying to use his guilt about their death to get him to stop getting help and fight her himself so she can kill him more easily.
Divide doesn't prove anything. It's heavily biased as it's from Salem's POV and created to paint Ozpin in the worst possible light, even if that means twisting the truth.
And team RWBY lied to Ironwood I guess this means Cinder is the real good guy and Team RWBY are hellspawn! one thing I can’t abide is a double standard if Oz is evil for lying so are team RWBY no if’s when’s or but’s
Great video for sure, so many people don't seem to truly understand the ridiculously complicated situation Ozpin is in.
Thank you for your support.

They really are similar...
wait people thought he was evil? hes just a man trying his best, scared of his past and being betrayed
Ozpin is one of my favorites, People try and villainize him for mistakes hes made, secrets kept and that he keeps his cards close to his chest. But in the end, He is simply trying to do what is best, and keep the people of remanent safe
3:33 FUCKER’S GOT ULTRA INSTINCT
I just wish we could've seen him fight more. Like, actually ozpin. You don't become the headmaster without some skills.
He is good its just in volume 6 he didint want anyone knowing that salem is immortal because they might side with salem. Like Torchwick was saying If you cant beat them join them
I miss Ozpin.
But it can also be sad😢
He's like the very champion of the humanity. The defender, the protector. Go Oz and Os! You all can do it, go get that "Greatness".
Well he didn’t turn evil but he did give up for like a reincarnation or two
Awesome vid bro. I SUBSCRIBED!!! keep it up
Ozpin is funny I can tell haha!!😂
he turned out to not be the hero he presented himself as, but he's still a good man
I personally think it was really the viewers that took his presentation as a hero instead of him actively doing it on purpose.
I love Ozpin. Thank u for shedding some light on him
Same :D
Not to mention why would someone trying to kill salem be evil
The man just went though a lot
Yeah anyone who thinks Ozpin is a bad person doesn't understand/likes rooster teeth bad writing. People who say he recruits child soldiers miss the point that they don't become huntsmen until after they graduate. Sure they can enlist in missions that may involve fighting Grimm, or places like forever fall. But these locations tend to have weaker Grimm.
Ozpin is favourite character out of all RWBY series
I'm probably the biggest Cinder fan around, and yet I still don't know why people would consider Ozpin to be "evil". Everything he does, he thinks he's doing the right thing, just like Cinder does. He's very guilty over what he does. Neither side in RWBY is "evil". The world isn't black and white.
Cinder doesn't think what she is doing is right, she just wants power and thinks Salem can give it to her. I do not know what Salem's goal is so I can not say if she believes she is doing the right thing.
Soarel technically that isn't true, the 2 brothers who created the world are supposedly pure creation and good and pure evil and destruction
"Cinder doesn't think what she is doing is right, she just wants power"
Nope, no, nada. Go listen to Sacrifice, it makes it very clear. She does not "just want power".
Salem's goal is to overthrow Ozpin. This is made clear in Divide verse 3.
"the 2 brothers who created the world are supposedly pure creation and good and pure evil and destruction"
This is why they're a shitty plot device that doesn't fit the world of RWBY at all.
In volume 3 chapter 7 Cinder said she wanted to be powerful, and Salem gave her that power, Later in volume 4 Salem mentioned this, I think it was chapter 11.
I don't think Ozpin is evil in anyway. I don't think he is purely good though
I thought he apologized because the transference wasn't working...
And I would still love to know how Cinder was a match for ozpin
Because of reasons.
very complicated situation
Daaaaaaaw.... My heart
When Eugene Fitzherbert, is the "Optimus Prime", of "Fairy Tale Land".
So is this in my recommended for a reason after I watched V8 ending Or..???
*Eruptionfang disliked this*
I don’t need to watch this video. I never thought he was evil anyway even though he lied and lost everyone’s trust, even the nice gal, Ruby Rose, who likes just about everyone
C'mon guys like the video I know him in school he's just a kid
Huh... it almost seems like making him look like an irredeemable monster makes NO FUCKING SENSE WHATSOEVER!!!!
I feel you, they did him dirty
3:51
Ah yes.. sorry. This is how we know ozpin isn't evil
I don't think oxpin died fighting cinder
The last time he was seen alive he was fighting Cinder so it is reasonable to assume she killed him, though I don't know how, from what is shown of the fight he appears to be winning. If you have a theory on what really happened I would like to hear it
@@ThomasGabrielWhite how could cinder beat ozpin when the maiden powers are ozpins gift?
@@zakaryiajack4832 because Ozpin gave most of his magic to the maidens.
@@ThomasGabrielWhite but isn't ozpins already a really really good fighter?
@@zakaryiajack4832 it's not about the skill of the fighter it's about how long they much damage they can do and how much damage they can take.
Well, he's amoral either way.
What is immoral about him
I mean.... i thought that was pretty clear.
Well this aged badly
Zephyr Omega Nope.
Nope
Nope
no it didn't
I'm sensing that Ruby and Oscar are developing feelings for each other, how akward do you think it's gonna be if they pursue a relationship.
You clearly weren't paying attention to the story of Ozma.
@@ThomasGabrielWhite Yeah essentially all the souls have been mixed together to the point their is only a single voice in Oscar’s head
ozpin is def not evil, but he does withhold information and ngl, i wasnt a fan then
ozpin is the ultimate badass tho
Ozpin probably simps on Ruby
am surprise how ozpin was able to work with humanity seeing how stupid they can be in the last 2 seasons and how stupid team rwby and jnr are in it
You say Ozpin Can Not be Evil but when he dies he takes over an unwilling hoast and takes over their life, letting the original soul die if that's not evil then I don't know what is… Ozpin is a wraith pure evil incarnate
Doesn't really prove anything
Kutaly L try to counter his points.
Caleb Brazeau Big difference.
I didn't say that he is evil, I'm saying he may be.
He is a manipulator and we still don't know what his motives are.
Kutaly L ...he does have trouble sharing information, but his actions point to him being a good guy.
Look at this conversation between Salem and Ozpin: ua-cam.com/video/XiCPlvkeA94/v-deo.html
Also Divide is talking about Salem's plan to destroy everything, she is telling Ozpin that he has no chance at beating her and that she will kill any of his allies, she is trying to use his guilt about their death to get him to stop getting help and fight her himself so she can kill him more easily.
No hints.
Divide doesn't prove anything. It's heavily biased as it's from Salem's POV and created to paint Ozpin in the worst possible light, even if that means twisting the truth.
1.He is not secretly a Villian!
2.No he's not a bad guy in disguise
3.He doesn't manipulate people!
4.And no it does not confirm of his "true nature"
And team RWBY lied to Ironwood I guess this means Cinder is the real good guy and Team RWBY are hellspawn! one thing I can’t abide is a double standard if Oz is evil for lying so are team RWBY no if’s when’s or but’s
