I don't like to analyze anything that gives me this much joy. Miss Horne .......If I heard you sing this in the concert hall today, my bravas would raise the roof. You are missed.
Thank you Marilyn Horne for blessed hymn "The Lord's Prayer." You sang it so brilliantly, lovingly, and gave God all the glory and praise that He deserves !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you so very much !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gratefully, Robert S.J. Hu October 18, 2020.
it's truly a respectful, rich rendition of the piece...respectful of the tone of the words, to the accompaniment, and to the audience, who can't help but wish to sing along. no fancy, distracting extras. simply strong and straight.
Truly wonderful, perfect voice. Her range is without doubt one of the widest in opera. If she had wanted she could have sung as a soprano. I love her versión of The Lord's Prayer.
Marilyn sings in tune and with feeling. She knows her accompaniment. She brings out the true character of the composition. She sings with sincerity and doesn't over dramatize. She doesn't show off her many attributes as others try to show their skills. She lets the beauty of the song speak for itself without a lot of embellishments. What joy she still brings to people like me.
Prachtig gezongen met een gevoelige stem. Het is al weer een tijd geleden dat deze opname is gemaakt maar het blijft een prachtige opname van deze zangeres.
She managed to sing gently even in the higher and louder parts. Not a single "painful" note. Compare that to the "belting queens" of this day and age. Screachy high notes and strained faces.
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name Thy kingdom come Thy will be done On earth As it is in heaven Give us this day our daily bread, And forgive our debts As we forgive our debtors And lead us not into temptation But deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom And the power And the glory forever. For Thine is the kingdom And the power And the glory forever.
@undeuxtroisquatreish I once lit a candle and said a prayer for Ms Horne the night I learned of her diagnosis back in 2005. I shall do the same for you this night.
Is her husband still had of NJ Symphony?...full, dulcet voice that embraces the sacred words,,,she is missed" not one tremor like her singing partner Joan
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
"The Lord's Prayer" Our Father Which art in Heaven, Hallowed be... Thy Name, Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, On earth.. as it is in Heaven... [musical break] Give us this day Our daily bread, And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors, And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. For Thy is the Kingdom, and the power And the glory forever... Ohhhh Thy is the Kingdom and the power, and the Glory Forever... Amen..
Vocally impeccable but oh the mushy orchestral accompaniment, yuckkkkk! Better suited with a piano in this connection I feel. In the form we have in this recording I could only take a couple of minutes of it; any longer and I would have reached for a bucket.
I respect Horne without enjoying much of her work. There's no gainsaying her voice's enormous range and flexibility at its best. But her sound has always struck me as lacking warmth, indeed a little harsh. The poster does not tell us when this was recorded. I assume rather late in Horne's career, since her vibrato has widened, particularly on her acuti.

She tried that and sang soprano for a few years. Voices change and she made the right choice and gave us her wonderful gift.
Absolutely a beautiful gift!

What a diva! With the most beautiful God-given voice, rising above all the artsy techniques and jestures, she simply offers a prayer! How wonderful!
