I had exactly the same thought. Construction workers never abandon their stuff. It's way too expensive. Best guess, is that the house is still under construction. If it had been abandoned in 2012, it would be in terrible shape.
Its more likely the general contractor building it was skimming extra money and cutting corners and the appraiser for the bank decided the house would not be worth its estimated value when finished and the bank then stops giving money out and the person holding the loan has to sue the builder. Meanwhile the house could sit empty and unfinished for years until its settled in court at which time the bank will auction it of and write off the loss

Totally agree!! In Australia (these days anyway), they say to prepare for every regular house build to go $15,000 over budget (& that’s when you have full insurance for if supplies get stolen or vandalised ect)... For a house this size & extravagant, God knows how much over budgeting you should prepare for but I’d say probably at least the cost of what a regular house would be 😅😅 ... I’m assuming people are only told to prepare for huge over budgeting during house builds these days cause of the mistakes people made in the past so it’s definitely possible when building this monster of a house, they way underestimated the cost rather than overestimating it to be safe & it’s also possible they had no insurance & supplies got stolen and/or vandalised so bumped the cost up even more till they had no money left (my parents had 3 whole slabs of expensive retaining wall bricks made from natural sandstone, plus all our taps & fittings & our whole front door all stolen off site when they were building my childhood home so it definitely happens, a house build is like a gold mine to thieves😅😅, luckily my parents had full insurance but still cost them a few grand extra to pay the excess on the insurance cause it wasn’t all done at once, crazy stuff happens when building😅)... However, I totally agree & anyone building anything should always way over budget so they’re definitely safe & anything left over would feel like a huge prize at the end too, can’t go wrong over budgeting that’s for sure!! 😂😂
What a beautiful house and what a waste of money.I wonder who owns these mansion he must be filthy , filthy rich but why did they abandoned it.?no more fund. It’s to big anyway plus the maintenance.anyway loved it.

Because it isn't all fluid. It's not like they have that just laying around in a safe deposit box at the bank. What they have access to probably isn't anywhere near that.

He says around 7 and a half minutes that it looks like it was under construction, but that whoever was building it ran out of money. Happens all of the time actually.
Or they could have built it twice as big and spent twice as much. You could have bought a smaller house and spent less money too, why didn’t you? It’s just on a different scale. Why does it matter to you how much money someone spends on their house or how big it is. If they had built smaller and saved money, it’s not like you get what they saved. So what does it matter? People can spend what they want on what they want and it has nothing to do with anyone else.
A billionaire build a massive home up on a small Mountain near my house a realtor up here said he only stays in it a few weeks out of the year for residency can't imagine having that much money another high-end car you didn't mention is the McLaren good looking car about 250k
And that has a whole lot to do with WHY it's not finished. Rich People love to build big, huge mansions, they THINK are going to be wonderful to live in. But stop and think. What does it take to heat/cool that place? You're not gonna have a whole lot of the kids coming to visit, so it's likely just for an older couple. you're gonna do all the cleaning, cooking, dish washing, dusting by yourself? Outside is another whole ball of wax, as well, and the pool will need maintenance. Huge mansions seem like they'd be great to live in, until you actually move in, and basically find yourself alone in a big ole house.
I loved this video ! I’ve been watching various channels of these types of shows all day and this was the best one by far , thank you for showing you everything you could !

a lot of times the builder is the reason houses are never finished, they bleed the money right out of your bank account at an alarming rate. they promise this for this price but then turn around and tell you that the cost of materials have gone up or they no longer can get certain items and you'll have to go with the closest one they can find at a much higher price.
Well! Ethan! This was an amazing and exciting find!! Don't ever apologize! I was as blown away as you were!!! Sad it just sits there not finished!! Difficult to believe someone who was building this size home would "run out of money"!!! Thanks so much Ethan! Great work!
That looks like too recently cleaned and well kept-up house to be considered an abandoned house.... UNFINISHED, maybe, but abandoned? It’s too clean... and still with POWER?
Yeah, since the water and electric are still on so someone is still paying on the property. They could be waiting out a downturn or keeping it clean for realtors/buyers viewings.
Hope this place gets sold and finished before someone goes in and trashes it. I hate how disrespectful people can be. And there could be hundreds of reasons why the construction has been stopped. Love how everyone speculates. This is an amazing place for the right people or purpose. If you get an update, you should let us know.
Speaking as a commercial electrician a residential home having a dedicated Room for electrical and HVAC Is pretty noteworthy all on its own!! Awesome videos BTW this one is more tame for me since this looks like what I work in near the end of a project
I agree. It is being looked after. Electric and water is on. It is being maintained. It is not an abandoned house. House on hold sure, but clearly not abandoned. No one just throws away that much money either. Not when something is salvageable as this. It just needs finishing. Someone clearly owns it. It is not an abandoned prop. It is private prop..
To quote Audrey fforbes-Hamilton, “...how very vulgar...”. As the saying goes, “...rich roars, wealth whispers.” These folks may have been rich, but certainly not wealthy. Wealth would not have run out of money, nor would they have embarked on such an “impress the guests” venture in the first place. There’s something ineffably sad about so much wasted effort - a house that will never be a home - and that so much work went into something that will never be put to the use it was meant for. When did the construction cease?
I've been enjoying your videos. Can't fathom having the money to build those. A lifestyle that's a level we're not used to. But boy is it fun to see what they look like. Kind of sad they went over their budget. Hope someone buys it and completes it. All my siblings and families could live in there!

I love how you continue walking as you're giving a tour because that's how you can really tell how big these mansions are. When you stand in a room to look at statues, wood work, etc., you lose the feeling of how big it truly is. This house is so massive, UNREAL!!!! Truly stunning!!
It looks like someone is taking care of it. Lights and water on, no cobwebs or dust. Looks like a dumpster and construction machinery outside in flash of one window. The nailed off door is probably an elevator shaft.
It just kills me seeing these beautiful houses cuz there's so many people homeless at this time. Like me who would appreciate just a closet space to live in lol. A throw away society...
@John Smith we don't know why it was abandoned, and this or these people may have earned it, respectfully.
@@AlexaCBrown no way. Not now that we the people know what that means. Probably tunnels under it.

You’re doing a fantastic job showing these homes. You’re one of my favorites. If anyone wants to complain just ignore them. Your great at what you do. Thank you so very much ❤
Magnificent massive house. A whole tribe of families could live here and not disturb each other.
My daughters friend is a realtor, she said she’s seen many multi million dollar homes built and finished them, but they can’t afford to furnish them. Many are empty.

The nailed off doors on each floor are probably to an elevator shaft.
some of them were to empty (timber framed) rooms, as you can see

Sense the electricity and water are still working I honestly don’t think that house is abandoned. They probably either stopped building or slowed down the building or postponed it because of the Corona virus. That house looks too new and still being worked on to even be abandoned.

Would not live in a house this large, because i would be taking days finding my way out. Too many rooms.
Not to mention the property tax! Yikes!
I agree
I totally agree with you.
The outside of this house is gorgeous! What a shame it wasn’t finished!
In a country where so many ppl are struggling with homelessness, places like this sit empty. What a ridiculous irony.
The ridiculous thing is starting construction on a home like this , that you cannot afford to finish.
Imagine living in a house that size. Gosh. I’d never find my cats apart from the feeding time.
Funny that's the first thing that came to my mind too! Imagine having to look for your cats to take them to the vet!

Haha it funny you say that I just said that
Your cats would probably go feral in that house!
Funny. But generally cat people don't live in mansion like these. They're more for dog people.
I've been in a few similar houses and can't ever remember seeing a cat walking around any of them. Dogs, yes, but never a cat.

This house was just unreal! I can’t even imagine owning something this spectacular. There is just so much to this home & to have it unfinished is such a shame. Obviously it has been protected from vandalism & one can only hope that it can be be finished one of these days so that the designer/owner’s dream can be brought to life. Great job Ethan capturing it’s “pre glory” 👍
Owning this? I couldn't even afford to heat this!
Having a house that big makes no sense to me. If I had that kind of money I would build me a simple tiny home.

It's odd that the water and electric are still on ... who's paying for that, and why?
Probably the bank keeping it on
For the heat so water pipes don’t break, water for the heated floors

The heating/cooling bill alone for this house would be astronomical.
16,000 SQ foot high efficiency it would run roughly $2,000 a month highest season summer use. Lot more in winter.
@@kennethwallace4338 no. It would be closer to 1000$. the average cost to heat or cool a new home of 2000sq.ft. is about 125-150$. My moms 6000sq.ft. house built in the 80s costs about 400$ per month.

Ethan, I love hearing your reactions as you go thru the rooms. Not my style but, I can appreciate the beautiful architecture in this mansion.

@Unicorns First Maybe he stopped being a billionaire? ;)

This place doesn't seem abandoned at all. Looks under construction and this dude broke in on the weekend.
Exactly thinking the same shit. Its clean and has power. Its totally under construction
At the end there is someone on the second level behind him that you see briefly. Could have been the person who let him in. (?)
😂🤣😅
Watching this makes me feel as if I am lost at sea !

It’s clean, powered and 90% complete. Congratulations on filming a construction site.
I can’t for the life of me imagine why anyone would need that much space
And that has a whole lot to do with WHY it's not finished. Rich People love to build big, huge mansions, they THINK are going to be wonderful to live in. But stop and think. What does it take to heat/cool that place? You're not gonna have a whole lot of the kids coming to visit, so it's likely just for an older couple. you're gonna do all the cleaning, cooking, dish washing, dusting by yourself? Outside is another whole ball of wax, as well, and the pool will need maintenance. Huge mansions seem like they'd be great to live in, until you actually move in, and basically find yourself alone in a big ole house.

a lot of times the builder is the reason houses are never finished, they bleed the money right out of your bank account at an alarming rate. they promise this for this price but then turn around and tell you that the cost of materials have gone up or they no longer can get certain items and you'll have to go with the closest one they can find at a much higher price.
How many hungry children could be fed with the money put into this house. Sad
It’s wasted money is the point I believe they where trying to make . Lots of money went into building this home and no one even lives there.

Looks like Kid Rocks house. If so, didn't run out of money for sure. Just on hold.
I would like to buy it ..whats the location???
Right
Not all is lost some1 could still buy the property @ a tax sale.
