- I examine the shocking commuting cost of the world's most powerful SUV: The all electric Rivian R1S. Does charging an EV at home cost twice as much as gas?

Enjoying your videos keep them coming. Once they have better deals I am jumping on a r1s 🎉.
Thanks! Will do!
Love the forest edge interior 🌲
Thanks!
Love Duke's laugh.
Great vid. Truth is, as a Lightning owner, that if you are out there watching this and havent taken one of these for a test ride.....dont do it. Cuz you will be sold just like me and the Duke . I really cant imagine having to go back to an ICE truck. And honestly, you are right with all those features that R1S has its worth the money.
Glad to hear you are enjoying your new truck!
I say efficiency be darned if you are charging at home every other night like I do (in winter). Darn the torpedoes, full speed ahead.
Nice video and very well explained 👍👍 love that final cost of $0.75 cents 👍👍👍
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Interior is mint. Looks great!
@@samatwesu Thanks! It looks much better in person.
It's why I'm switching to a Rivian R2.
its great that you can do a cost check, I've done several myself here in Thailand , my wife the ultimate cheap charlie , so that means we can piss money away , hahahah my Scottish neighbor hates the idea of EVs - he is Oil n Gas OIM on a North Sea Rig , so whats happened he no longer talks with me, I hear that alot now, ohh well. But I do drive cheaper in commuting down town,
It’s great to see people from around the world are finding value in driving an EV. Too bad for the oil guy because times are changing.
@@thedukeofmiddleville oh yes Tire Pressure is Critical for better consumption , have been doing that for years, I watch my Diesel Truck Camper RV here , 65 psi , yes it makes a rougher ride but my consumption went from 15 miles per gallon diesel to back to 24 mpg, I do it in Litres per kilometer but back to MPG (I appreciate MPG over L/100 klm)
@@thedukeofmiddlevillegreat job!
Ca. I ask if you verified the accuracy of the miles to Kw?
Simply top up to 80%, drive as you do until down to 25% or less.
Note the miles driven and top back to 80%.
Miles driven divided by Kw added will give you a true miles per Kw.
My Teala X is working out to 2.7 miles per Kw.
I'm interested to know since Rivian is giving me incentives to trade my X for a R1S but I need to get an idea of miles to Kw
Great video! Hard to beat the cost of electricity with home charging. I heard the vehicle has the maintenance manual built in. Do the vehicles give you a reminder to do scheduled maintenance for tire rotation, cabin filter and stuff like that?
Can't those scheduled maintainace reminder also be in the OEM vehicle app. These connected cars all have apps now soo that's the best method to check and schedule such appointments.
The Rivian app let's you know when scheduled maintenance is which is mostly tire rotations.
Non-Tesla versus Tesla Forever, baby!!! Just kidding. All good in the EV family🤣🤣🤣
I'd like to test drive one of those. I have a Tesla Model Y. I'm guessing that is a larger vehicle.
Yes it’s larger. You should test drive it. If you’re looking for something different from Tesla rivian is probably the closest as far as software. Of course compared to a model y it’s more expensive but you may can find a used one that’s at a reasonable price if you ok with not having the new models.
It is definitely bigger than a Model Y.
We LOVE our R1T.
7:00 Yes, the best part of EVs is instant acceleration and instant deceleration. So safe to avoid bad actors and then stop on a dime if need be.
What a nice vehicle, but very pricy, and even Rivian lose money on them. I hope that the R2 will be more affordable
The R2 is supposed to start at $45k, but we will see.
Where does this person live that pays $0.05 a kilowatt hour?!
It is $.07 a KWH in northwest Arkansas and it drops to 5 from 10PM-6AM. Same price here basically.
We are on a Co-OP.
Thanks for sharing!
@Futurase1 is that actually the cost of total bill divided by kw used or is it touted that it costs 7 cents before adding all the other fees such as line charge, transmission charge, maintenance and other electric company charges
@@Michael-e9s2x The rate I give is the total bill (including taxes) divided by the number of kWh used.
