    Be careful with the inversion table. My husband’s uncle got a little careless with the proper procedures and dress which caused him to slip out, break his neck and eventually pass. Just a cautionary tale for our favorite RVer.

      Sounds like what i grew up with i think they called it macadeum black top. Gravel then oil severl coats of each. After it cures its better than black top but before its a pain in the ass. At first its a mess if they do a place wrong. I was 5 years old when they did it then again when i was 10. I am 77 now i go by there every once in a while now. There is a big school im front of house with about 20 busses on that road twice a day. If they dont put enough gravel over the oil it will screw up cars trucks bi 0 0:17 pretty much anything that rolls over it

    The dogs look fantastic. I think this is the best haircuts they've had. This groomer does a super good job. I get my dog cut short in the summer also. I pay $60 + tip. Can't imagine paying for all four dogs. You're such a good dad. So glad to see your friends are coming back to spend some time with you. I hope Carolyn gets to feeling better. She may have to hold off on rearranging the rocks.

    I love love that you are able to have a place for your nomad friends to come rest awhile. You are doing exactly what I've done all my life with my son & his working friends in-between their jobs & travels, as I was able. I've wanted to be a full time nomad for so long but God has had other things for me to do, so I enjoy my part time travels & enjoy watching you & your friends. May God continue to Bless your heart, hugs, keep up the great work. You put a smile on my face today as we are going thru some life challenges right now & really need this. TY for sharing.

    I live on a chip seal road. The only time it's a problem is when they freshen it up and it rains. That's like skating on black ice if you aren't careful. As long as you watch for loose gravel, once it's hardened down it's a good 55 mph drive. I generally keep it down to 45 mph because I'm older and mor comfortable at that speed.

  • @feathers352
    @feathers352 17 днів тому +13

    Chip and seal is ok if it is done correctly. My father and sister (who bought his business) did it for years here in Ohio. One thing is that you are basically sealing the road with tar and topping it with stone. Here it is used to seal cracks in regular asphalt. The most important thing is to use a crushed or angular stone not pea gravel. Pea gravel and come loose and roll to the edge of the road. Especially, if the road is sped on. I don't know how it will perform in the very hot weather you have there. If they do not put enough stone, the asphalt (tar) base will bleed through. But here we use it great success and is quite a bit cheaper as you mentioned than traditional asphalt.

    I grew up on a chip sealed road. It's great once it "seasons". When it's first laid down it's messy and dusty, but that don't last very long. We drove tractors and semi's over it every year and honestly I think it holds up better than blacktop. The first year or two it won't be the greatest, but it just gets better. I don't think you will have any complaints.

  • @kraigt22
    @kraigt22 17 днів тому +9

    Kevin, I live in southern Illinois and there are miles and miles of chip seal farm roads around here. I ride a little Honda ADV160 scooter around these back roads all the time. When it’s first applied, it’s basically like riding on loose gravel. However, once plenty of traffic has compacted it down, it becomes similar to asphalt. If you ride any of your two wheeled vehicles on it, simply treat it just like a gravel road until it hardens.

  • @cybertactix
    @cybertactix 17 днів тому +5

    As a kid/teenager many of the local roads where I lived in Canada were chip seal. It was much better than gravel since it didn't easily pothole or washboard. It was great for running on barefoot in the evening since it was warm from the sun and the area between where the wheels traveled was primarily smooth tar. Any problems were easily repaired with fine gravel and hot tar.

    Chip-seal works well once it gets packed down. When it is first done it can be like driving on loose gravel, especially the edges. The culverts will help stop wash outs causing ruts and holes common on dirt roads. They will help prevent erosion of the dirt under the chip seal.

    Wow, the Babies look great!! So much cooler for the upcoming summer season. Think it's going to unseasonably hot this year! Be careful with that inversion table. Go slow. Either have someone with you at all times or set it up next to the bavk of the house and either make you some hand holds or rope to pull yourself back up if needed. Always plan your escape before you get started.

    Chip seal is the same asphalt spray over a roadway and then small pea stone or similar crushed rock is poured over it. Here is northern states I've never seen it put over anything but asphalt pavement that has begun to crack. ( The chip seal helps to keep moisture sleeping beneath the asphalt and then the freeze thaw creates havoc with the road surface.

    In N.E. Ohio (when I was young), the side roads always were chip & sealed. They held up better than the cheap, crappy asphalt they use now. Once it gets packed down nice, it's great. The Woofpack is looking so good. Where I live in Boise Idaho the roads are chip-sealed and its pretty good for traction all year. Initially the pebbles make it a little slippery but eventually they get pushed down by tires going over them and you don't even notice them. The edges get some loose debris at first also so we drive carefully for the first few weeks.

    Chip seal is how they used to pave country roads. They have to add to it every year or two. You want to stay off of it when fresh, or you will have it all over your vehicle. It holds up pretty good when dry.

    Up here in Pittsburgh, they start tar and chips in the spring. Just in time for riding season. They used to put tar down and dump way too much chip/dust mix and it was worse than riding on small gravel. It would take about 3 weeks of traffic to settle down the dust and loose gravel. I almost went down twice. Now they premix it and it just goes down and sticks. You can ride on it immediately but the sticky tar spots can mess you up in the heat. I've taken my bikes on my share of dirt roads and the original tar and chips was much more difficult than dirt. I've never ridden on sand so I can't say anything there. Good luck and take it easy.

    If they put it down properly, and roll it right away, it doesn’t make a big mess. Don’t ride your bike for awhile, especially if it rains on the oil. The word slick doesn’t describe it. A spray tar remover is a good idea.

    The woof pack are looking good for summer with those new haircuts 😁 Good to see your friends coming back to Vagabond, & hope everyone has a great summer. Prayers for Carolyn to get some relief at the Chiropractor, I've had two fusion surgeries on my spine (many years ago), & found the best thing for it to be using the lat pull on my weight bench, but with your back facing the bar, & pull down slooowly. Told my Dr., he said good for you, that's like traction. You don't ever want the discs in your lower back getting compressed; nerve pains bad. Looking forward to see all your activities now the band of gypsies are back.....

    Road improvement is always welcome in my eyes. I've been on chip asphalt country roads. Not on a daily basis, that I know of, lol. I kinda forget about the roads unless they are really bumpy. I'd think anything is better than pot holes. I hate pot holes & deep ruts. I know Dad had to have his drive grated regularly to keep out ruts, it was always a pain. With u not getting super harsh weather in Winter I bet it's going to be a nice improvement and hopefully no need to worry about salt on the roads that would create pot holes. Plus they say chip asphalt doesn't absorb as much heat as regular asphalt. My bet is that cruiser Gold Wing will still prefer super highways, but getting rid of the sand will be a step up. Best wishes.

    Another cool video Kev, Thank You. About chip sealing, Here in rural upstate NY, Most county roads are chip sealed. They come throught with a huge milling machine and mill up the old surface for re-use. Then the tar truck comes through spraying very hot liquid asphalt. Then the spreader comes behind which is being pushed by a huge dump truck with millings or new "chips" . After that, the rollers come in and roll the new surface. It lasts quite some time providing the drainage has been fixed, as in your case with ditch cleaning and culverts. There is absolutely no problems riding your bikes, motorcycles etc. as the roades are very safe. Here in NY they plow these roads in the winter and they hold up well. most of the roads here have been done several times. I think this adds to the longevity. Yours being "brand new" only time will tell how long it will last. The biggest problems that I have seen here is that the new surface becomes a dragstrip in some areas and the kids also like to do burnouts and donuts on the new surfaces.

    I have used Chip seal for many years at my golf course for the parking lot area. Typically they lay down oil and then put down the pea gravel. They then sweep it several times to pick up the loose pebbles. It is slick until the final sweep up. Mine lasted about a season or two. Then needed to be redone. Highway dept uses this as well. It is much more economical than black top.
    Dogs look great. Ray in Boise

    Your dogs are blessed to have you. My vet told me one time " you really love your dogs " I had two weiner dogs @ that time. I said to her
    doesn't everybody?" The vet replied "no, I see people who think of their dog as a burden" I know she works alot with animal control
    I am sure she has seen a lot of sad things.

    Love watching your fur babies. Our baby Bella passed away 6 months ago (yorkie). She went in for a minor surgery and the vet gave her too much anesthesia for her little 4 pound body. We miss her terribly. Thanks for sharing.

    We've had chip 'n seal, on our formerly gravel road, about 20 years, now, and I love it far more than totally gravel! Much less dusty, and a much safer surface for walking and driving, over gravel that can slip and slide around! The only time it's less good, than our gravel drive is when it's snowy or icy. Then the gravel gives you better traction! At least, that's my opinion. I'd be very sad if our road district decided to go back to plain gravel! Hope that helps!

    Fantastic grooming on the Wolf Pack! Their bodies will be short for a good while. The parking area fixed. up is very nice. Enjoy the special chair and the hot tub.

    The Woof pack looks fantastic.
    So happy to see Frank & Tammy along with Caroline back at Vagabond.
    Prayers for Caroline to get her back healed.
    Happy to see the hot tub is hot again. That will help your back a lot.
    You and the babies stay healthy and safe
    and enjoy life.
    Know you all are in my prayers.
    Give those happy babies tummy rubs and ear scratchies.

    They just chip sealed my road. It went great. It looks so shiny, but it did not even stick to my shoes.
