    I switched to 85 from 100 years ago. You make some good points about higher flex and have me considering a change... or mayne I'm just trying to justify a hockey stick habit...

      @StickTalk8  2 місяці тому +1

      I have no ground to stand on in terms of trying to stop you from starting this habit LOL but if you are looking for ease of use stick to the 85, if you want to get the most out of your shot use the 100

    Thanks for your videos, keep them coming. I think shooting style, strength, position and preference in puck feel are the key factors. I prefer whippier sticks for shooting and puck handling but find them too soft for puck battles on the boards when bigger guys lean on me.
    So I try to find a good middle ground. That's probably what most players do.

    • @StickTalk8
      @StickTalk8  2 місяці тому

      I find that the lighter the flex the heavier the puck feels when stickhandling if that makes sense but yes going in the middle is a safe bet!

    there's a reason most sticks on the shelf are 85. most people are 85's. a few guys like stiffer, a few flexier, but the average senior player is pretty much right there.

      It’s the perfect halfway point for most adults

    Bit extreme on the flex range, would have been more interesting to compare say 75 vs 85 vs 95 if you normally use 85

    • @StickTalk8
      @StickTalk8  2 місяці тому +1

      I had to go a bit extreme on the flex range in order to feed into the half your weight cliche, 85 is the absolute whippiest I could go on a stick lol

      I ran my own personal test with 95, 85, 75. I'm normally a 95 guy. I saw a 2 mph drop on clappers from each flex I went down. I didn't check velos on snap shots cause I find them a bit more inconsistent. But it is noticeably easier to pop off snaps with less effort as you go down in flex

      It is way easier with the softer flex but you do miss out on some of that power

    Hey man love the Channel! Where you cut your sticks typically (off skates) or on skates doesn’t matter just looking for reference. Chin , lips , nose? Looks like around lip level in the video but always hard to tell

    • @StickTalk8
      @StickTalk8  2 місяці тому

      Thank you! I typically like it at my nose off skates but depends on the lie of the stick!

    I think this is just a good example that if you can shoot the puck well, the stick isn’t as important.! Best shots might be with the 100 flex man.

    Great video. Quick question, if I extend a 75 by an inch does it make it softer? Or, should I just buy the 85 and cut some off. And will that now be stiffer? Thx

    • @StickTalk8
      @StickTalk8  2 місяці тому +2

      If you extend a 75 by an inch it will be a 72 flex roughly, for the 85 if you cut it, it will become stiffer

  • @scout0487

    I use 80 flex at 170. Can get a lot out of my shots but it takes a lot more effort. At stick time my arms get worn out and can’t get the puck in the air. Thinking about getting a 70 flex but I’ll have to cut down stick height so idk. Hockey gear is a game itself

    • @StickTalk8
      @StickTalk8  2 місяці тому +1

      I’d definitely give a 70 a try, will be so much easier to use and yes it is the game within the game lol

      I’m trying a 65 flex this week been using a 77 flex for about 10 years tried a 70 liked it. Now that they’re doing 65/67 flex sticks in senior length I wanted to try it out. I’m 6’ 145 lbs (yes I’m aware I’m a twig)

    Me and my buddy both get 85 flex twigs and cut them down to the same height which gets them down to ab 93 which is perfect for me and him even though we are completely different builds (I’m 6’6 195 on skates he like 5’11 140 on skates)
    My next question is about the pro zegras curve. We both use a p28, have forever but after seeing your last vid im thinkin ab getting him a zegras curve, how much difference does it make?

    • @StickTalk8
      @StickTalk8  2 місяці тому +2

      I personally like the zegras more than the p28, it feels a little easier to control and and you get the blade shape of the p92 which I prefer, after using it for 15 mins you’ll be used to it. Not much of a learning curve at all!

    body weight has ZERO to do with what flex you should use. Shooting style and strength are what matters. Burms is 230 pounds using a 130 flex stick, for example. He's freakishly strong! But, by the "half your weight" rule he should be using a 115 flex stick. His body weight doesn't help him flex his stick, though. His shooting style and upper body strength does.
    We need to move past the "half your body weight" mantra, and start understanding better how flex can be used as a tool to improve our shots.

      @ yea I think different stick manufacturers and kickpoint etc play a big part, l have a Sher-Wood code tmp 75 flex and it feels stiffer than my warrior 75 flex. I’m a huge stick whore tho so I’m always trying out new stuff 😂

    If you cut the stick it will change the flex

    • @StickTalk8
      @StickTalk8  Місяць тому

      Usually it’s 3 flex for every inch you cut off so if you start with an 85 and cut one inch off it becomes an 88 flex

    • @StickTalk8
      @StickTalk8  Місяць тому

      You just get less leverage over the stick so it makes it more difficult to flex
