Yes, I was born and raised in Hartford, Connecticut. I remember going downtown. They had everything downtown JJ Newberry love to go in shop sit at the diner inside the store and eat 🥰🥰🥰
Hartford had so many beautiful buildings that were lost to redevelopment. Just imagine what city would look like if some of those buildings were still standing! Once again, thanks Dan for the great job.
Thanks Dan… Newberry’s and Jupiter’s were my favorites. I guess Newberry’s was the store that you can exit out the side back near the record shop onto Asylum Street
@@junkandthangs Yes, more or less across from Savitt's! Song Hays, a favorite spot for my parents and I when I was growing up. I actually don't remember Abe's Fashion though.
@@hetmanjz going down asylum towards Trumbull it was on the right, opposite side of Savitt Song Hays etc. as I said out the side door of Newberry’s onto Asylum
It seems as though Hartford was just one huge retail store location that had many concerns all in competition with one another over the years, constantly building and demolishing trying to get a leg up on their competitors.
Thanks for these videos, they all bring back some great memories! I grew up on Woodbridge Street so downtown Hartford was our go-to place. My mother worked at the W,T, Grant store on State Street as a cashier so I knew all the department stores very well. Other fond memories include the Crown Theater, Nateson's Drug Store, the great hobby shop that was on Pearl Street, Sam's Army Navy, the newsstand on the corner of State and Main where I would buy all my 10 cent comic books... Man, am I old LOL
More thoughts - Daley's Market on Main Street, the New System Restaurant (where my parents met!), Parma Restaurant, Honiss Oyster House, Omar(?) Coffee roasters, Mr. Peanut, Savitt's Jewelers. More and more brain cells keep waking up!
Dan another great video. I worked in ‘66 and ‘67 after school for Bakers Shoe store which is shown as Burt’s shoe store. My boss was a great guy Irv Plotkin
I worked at J.J. Newberry in the mid 1980s.....Shopped G. Fox, Sage-Allen, Brown-Thompson, etc. Great place back in the day. Stephen Simon
