    When I first started watching your videos a couple years ago, I thought 'Man this guy is so good - he catches fish I would holler and yell about, but he is so chill about it like it happens every day!' Then I realized that is the 'Elias' personality which is perfect for fishing videos - always informative and never over the top. When you do get excited, I know it is always genuine and I know it is a big deal! Keep the unedited ones coming!

    Thanks for giving your thoughts on conservation and "entitlement" while you fish, and for setting a good example with the trash. A few years ago I got called a p----y for snagging a grocery bag out of the water at a FL pier and I'm always disappointed in how many "can't tell me nothin" people share this resource.

    People like these uncut videos cause you're relatable and someone we wouldnt mind fishing with and we appreciate seeing the work that goes into a day on the water instead of just 20 minutes of highlights. I find the overproduced, over edited, screaming every bite kind of content obnoxious. This is just a relaxing day on the water fishing for what makes you happy. Which is what most of us do when we go fishing. I

    You mentioned overpaying for fluorocarbon, you ever watch the Salt Strong’s videos on testing flouro vs mono for leaders. It really has me thinking lately, I think I’m going back to mono.

    • @EliasVFishing
      @EliasVFishing  13 днів тому +2

      I haven’t looked into every detail yet, but I still like the way flouro cinches on knots. But at the end of the day it’s probably the least consequential choice you can make on the water to go mono over flouro.

    • @jasonfulton77
      @jasonfulton77 13 днів тому +1

      I saw a couple of those videos. The thing is flourocarbon was invented for tuna fishing in mind that are heavy hitters that are very line shy. If you want to stay stealthy line wise you can save by using Seagaur mainline as you leader line. That is kind of a tournament bass fishing secret. It works but it stretches a bit more than the more expensive Seagaur leader line. It all 100% flouro.

    I was down in SW Florida last week. Purchased a Grouper from a recommended fish monger. It reminded me of Pacific Halibut, just not as clean in flavor. Low fat content, wasn't my jam. I generally only eat Pacific Salmon, Trout from clean mountain Streams or Red Tail Surf Perch. Really wanted to try some fish down south, just wasn't digging it. How would you rate something like a Snapper compared to a grouper?

      Snapper is also pretty lean, little bit softer than grouper but plays better with citrus or spices. Smaller ones fry or grill whole for an authentic feel. Cero mackerel is rich but I don’t think you’ll find it often since it doesn’t transport well. You might be more into Mahi or Wahoo then imo.

    You need to replace your treble hooks with single in line hooks to fish through grass. We do on the Texas flats all the time. Especially in warmer months. If the top water bite is good enough, single hooks will allow you enough clean retrieves and partial retrieves to catch plenty of fish where without them you’d be grass immediately every cast and little to no possibility to catch fish.

    • @EliasVFishing
      @EliasVFishing  13 днів тому

      The inlines I put on that nomad must have been too big?

    • @CoastalBendFishNinja
      @CoastalBendFishNinja 13 днів тому

      @ So, sometimes there is too much grass for the headache and the amount of grass. Only being there and casting can tell you. The in line hook gap should be roughly the size of the width of the entire stock treble hook. Honestly, I didn’t see you use or put on in line hooks, I was doing other things while watching the video and didn’t catch that. Only that you were having problems with the grass 😝 So I don’t know what you were using for single hooks. The front hook should be gap forward while the rear hook gap facing backwards for ideal hookup chances. I would imagine that if your hooks were too big, you’d catch extra grass…but it can also affect the action of the plug negatively. Sometimes even with single hooks, you just land in a patch of grass every other cast and you can’t do anything about it. The fish wanna eat top water but you can’t work your plug for even a half a cast without having a salad on the hooks. Nothing you can do. Also depends on how much action. If I can keep my plugs somewhat free of grass…and it’s getting me blowups every 3-5 casts. I’ll fight the grass a lot more than if I am getting more salads than I am blowups.
      I fish top water every single day I go fishing on the Texas Coastal Bend except when the water gets really cold. Mid afternoon, clear water and high sun also tough most of the time…Even then, ya never know. Tight lines Elias🎣🤙🏻🍻

    Just in case anyone IS interested in the science behind man-o-war/jellyfish stings: Their tentacles are lined with small bodies called nematocysts. Each nematocyst is like the barrel of a gun, loaded with a spring-loaded, barbed syringe of venom. When the tentacle touches a threat or prey, the nematocysts fire into the flesh of the target, delivering the pain/paralysis we recognize as coming from these critters. Vinegar, particularly white vinegar, applied to a sting can help to prevent unfired nematocysts OF SOME SPECIES from going off, but will not do anything for the ones that have already penetrated the skin/flesh. It can, however, trigger the nematocysts of other species to fire.
    The Red Cross recommends this process for jellyfish stings, at least in the US: First safely remove the tentacles by rinsing or scraping with a blunt object. If adverse symptoms are occurring, like paralysis or anaphylaxis, dial 9-1-1 immediately. Otherwise, soak in the hottest water the victim can tolerate for 20 minutes or until the pain stops. A hot compress can also be used, but a bath or shower is better.

    I think that floating weeds in the current pretty much negates topwater fishing. I love my Phenix rods but they are brittle, no doubt about it. Have you noticed that overstate the power ratings a bit, as in a medium power Phenix rod is really a medium light in the real world. And finally: did you say Meg is pregnant? If yes, congrats!!

    Howdy Elias. G Too cold for me down here. I think Justin/Kayak Catfish is looking for sharks somewhere down that way. You guys are getting me through the cold weather. Nice Cubera. Realize we watch because we like the creators ..... every one gets bored with fish after fish.. I;m not much on catching Sharks either. I personally cringe when I see people hitti or put them o ice and leave them be. @EliasVFishing what shoes are you wearing? I changed my days OFF to Thur and FRI so I don't have to fish the weekends, Too crowded. I wonder if you would get out of some of that grass if you were clocer to

    The "brain spike" ... the Japanese unit should be helpful. No way to do the entire process on a kayak, but it's a good step. The less lactic acid in the meat, the better it cooks and stores.

  • @jayjohnson9668

    BTW you dont need a special brain spike tool. A regular old ice pick for 2$ works just as good. Its clean quick effective and cheap! Dont waste your$ on a “brain spike” tool…..its an ice pick🤣🤣

    Elias, I love your channel, your fishing methods, and on-camera demeanor. But at this point in my life there's no way I can carve out 3 (+/-) hours for a video. I so wish I could. I let the play while I work but I can't really be as attentive as I'd like.
    I retire (again) in 45 days. Maybe then.
