In the early 70s, when the old bridges were the only bridges, there were wooden walkway decks on the outside of the bridges. Half on one side, then going down and under the bridge and back up on the other side. The crossunder platform was only 4 feet off the water at high tide. We would camp overnight on that platform and try to catch the tarpon that were clearly visible in the moon light.
Them bridges were real narrow especially driving a Winnebago Motorhome back then and there was the giant starfish and queen conch just a couple of the species that's disappeared over the years
Its not even the fishing, its the thought put into the the little cut scenes from the drone, you putting a rod in a rod holder.. just the little stuff keeps me coming back. I mean the fishing is great too ;p I appreciate the production effort you put into your videos.
We used to lobster dive under that bridge a ton back in the 70s. Giant barracuda 6’ plus 32:46 would always be following us in case a lobster got loose! The reefs were pristine back then too.
That buffalo bag is nice. Wondering if you’d be able to give us a run down on your kayak sometime? I’m in the market and would like to hear how you like the hobie.
I'd like to see that as well. I'm on my second Hobie PA12 and upgraded to the 180 drive. I fish in it 5 or 6 days a week from May to Oct here in Ontario, Canada 🇨🇦 🍁 . Trout , walleye, pike, bass. I'm in my 60s and car top my Hobie without any problems. I think the Hobie drive is really the steathy-ist way of fishing, better than electric motors and better than paddling. The 180 drive is excellent for boat positioning. I'd certainly like to hear Rich's evaluation of his.
Yeah I’ll film something like that at the start of a video one day soon to give you the run down on some pros and cons. Also my opinion on what I have and some other models I’ve encountered.
Great to shake your hand at World Wide Sportsman Rich! Keep up the great work! Always makes my day when I see you’ve a new video out! I have been catching loads while down here and managed a self guided bonefish! 😁😁
Great show! Lots of action. Each time you were fighting those huge Jacks I wondered if it was going to attract a shark… I recall viewing one of your previous shows where a shark took a bite of your kayak! Impressive footage. Thanks again and looking forward to your next episode
Thanks so much! Haha yeah when I’m fighting these jacks I think the same thing that a shark can come in at any time and nail it!! See you in the next episode and tight lines till then 🤙🏻
I saw you fishing the bridge on the 4th while I was in our rental car, after seeing you out there you inspired me to go on some fishing expeditions on the kayak at our rental place
@@FishAholicTV I did actually, I caught some cuda, snappers, grunts, a baby Goliath grouper, and I almost hooked a mid 30 to 40 inch snook on a yozuri top knock
Yeah I really like it! And in the kayak especially because it saves on some space behind my seat when I have the live well and lunch cooler back there.
Yeah I love this bag a lot and it is really cool now to not have to mix my lunch with fish that I’m keeping in the kayak. Also it saves on space so I can also have my 10 gallon live well behind them the seat.
I just moved from Sacramento to florida about 3 weeks ago. I am in love with fishing. Were I lived I haven’t done much ocean fishing only river and lake fishing. I’ve been watching you for a while now and would love to book a trip with you.
Good seeing you on the beach the other day. 26’ Pathfinder with the Tower. Did you enjoy the Giggity show on the other boat drifting next to us? Did you get that Permit?
Hey nice to meet you as well! Hahaha unfortunately we did not get a Permit. Just a nice Pompano 16” to the fork, 19” black drum, loads of jacks, and bluefish. My buddy also snagged one of those big like 100lb manta rays and broke off. A little while later I somehow snagged his line and chased the fish down and got my lure back and pulled in the rest of his line before it broke again.
Oh yeah that is always a good bait! But hear this. The last day I got on a good tarpon bite in the kayak. But could not buy a bite on live mullet. I had all my bites on lures and landed one around 50”
Hey Rich, I have recently found your channel because I am starting to get into fishing since I am moving to Florida, a couple questions I have for you (or anyone) is does your line color matter or does it just depend on what color water you're fishing in and I'm also thinking about getting your Dark Matter medium fast spinning rod, is the medium fast rod more for lighter tackle or the heavy fast rod? I'm not doing offshore fishing so I don't want something "too strong". If anything I would rather have it on the lighter side. Love your videos, I've been watching them everyday.
Hey Luke, I would recommend the 7’6” medium fast action for more light tackle fishing inshore fishing. It pairs up really well with most modern 3000, 4000, and 5000 size reels. 10, 15, or 20lb braid and the color doesn’t really matter. Especially if you are using a long leader with an FG knot. I always preferred dark green moss or grey colored braid. But since moving to florida and I’m always using long leaders 8 to 15ft for inshore fishing. I like the high vis line like blue/green and or multi color. Especially since now I’ve been running charters and when I ask the customers if they can see where there bait is. They can because of the high vis line.
The one day I was able to go to 7 mile and fish was a windy day, had to go fish the flats on the other side of a key. Next day i left and was driving back home, It was completely calm waters of course..
first off love your vids especially the kayak ones in this one about the 1332 mark you catch a jack and grab it around the gill plate bad move , the fish bleeds and you say you don't know why you hooked it in the corner of the mouth but clearly you can see your thumb in the gills. when a fish bleeds this bad you should keep it because they generally die. not dissing you just education. Be kind to the fish most people have no idea how to hold a fish properly or release one , you do a pretty good job but you can do better. enjoy you thanks.............Rich
Rich, I’ve grabbed thousands of bluefish, and jacks like this and that normally doesn’t happen. When I worked as a mate no joke we would catch 4 to 5 gator bluefish on umbrellas for sometimes 5 hrs straight when they were thick times that by 200 strips a summer. That was always the best handle to grab them to avoid there teeth. Control them then throw them back or in the box. Jacks of that smaller size have a very similar handle over the back of their head and the hard tissue a little past their gills. The gill plates do not cause bleeding. If i puncture the soft tissue underneath, or grabbed it by the gills abruptly then I could see that be a cause for the bleeding. The tube under water is also spinning around really fast in the current. The jack more than likely ate it deep and the hooked nicked a gill then ripped out and hooked into its mouth so when it came up it was bleeding. In one of my next videos I’ll give you a mention and a closer look at how I hold them. Also so it will educate others. But anyway, jacks and bluefish are not in short supply and if that little jack died in reality it possibly saved another fish from getting eaten by a shark. Nothing goes to waste in the ocean. Talk to you later and tight lines Rich.
I’ve had sharks circle me many times. But I realized even on the flats in shallow water they do the same thing. Last year I had a big hammer. Probably 15ft. A little bigger than my kayak. Circled me twice in only 4ft of water. But it still got scared when I picked my net up.
Hey fishaholic me and my dad are going to the keys for spring break and we are going to fish the 7 mile bridge. Do you think you can give use some tips. We would really appreciate. ❤❤❤
Awesome! Well good luck first thing. Because sometimes that helps haha. But I would bring a bunch of 3 to 4” swimbaits on 3/8 or 1/2 ounce jigs heads. Bring shrimp dead or alive for snapper. And I always bring a trolling lure to cover ground. If you can get live pilchards that is a game changer out there for everything.
The Black's get out on the flats and everywhere from 300ft to 4 ft of Water and I've caught a bunch in the channels and flats Rich and they love tubes and so do Cobias

You should use the shade of the bridge to stay out of the hot sun.
