Those guys from RX Bandits really are technical masters that are so under-appreciated in today's music scene. Nice subtle time signature changes going on with purpose.
can't stress enough how good those guys are A lot of the time I feel like my championing of how amazing they are comes off fanboyish, and I can't convince people to check them out. Favorite band ever.
I think remember once reading something or hearing something from Matt saying they always end up back together bc they’re the only other ppl who get each other on that music level that they can play with other ppl but they just can’t vibe the same way as with each other.....one more thing. Can someone please explain why these guys seam to rotate in and out(except cgak) from TSOAF?? Is it like, they’re all in it together but just do the instruments instead of any vocals??.......cgak forever!!!!!!!!
@@Justsomefatguy i think only the singers rotated, and it was more Craig Owens just being on the first album while Anthony Green has been on all of them. Same with Rich Balling. but yea, it seemed to have existed as a sort of collective. hope they put out more music someday, The Ocean and the Sun is one of my all time favorite albums. i don't know the specific details of this concert unfortunately
Matthew Kelly did the intro song "Heretic", Matt Embree from Rx Bandits plays guitar and sings (the guy all the way on the left.) I think the guy with the crutch is Rich Balling, and the last guy is Keith Goodwin and hes the singer from Good Old War. Hope this helps

Being a huge Rx Bandits fan, I really appreciate Matt Embree in the role of lead guitarist rather than singer/rhythm guitarist. He is such an amazing musician to mastermind this sound and his shredding is not only impeccable, but perfectly flows with the crazy-fast rhythms. All of the members of Rx Bandits really make TSOAF awesome, and combine them with a vocal talent like Anthony Green and you get some amazing music.
Matt played a solo show at a small bar in Alaska a few years ago. Actually right after the TSOAF reunion tour. I got to chat with him before his set and he was a super nice guy. Asked if I had any song requests, which I said yes please play “only for the night”. And uh… yea it was awesome.
dear gods, this band, why did i have to find them only to find they broke up already? depressing that they couldn't have decided to keep experimenting and expanding. we need more bands like them, especially with so many good bands breaking up lately. and the fact they can play this well in concert? amazing.
this is maybe the most brilliant thing i have ever seen though craig owens doesn't sing that well i've been thinking about doing creative stuff like they do with my band, that would be awesome you guys are my inspiration
just bought this bad boy....I wish i could have seen a live show. The DvD is still amazing. One of the best live bands i've seen. It's tough to fine bands that have amazing lyrics and still know how to play music. Their songs have a whole lot of meaning and are amazing. Tryin to figure out what lyric i want tatted on me....hero's
anthony green has said multiple times that the whole band was tripping the fuck out on acid the entire show, they would take tabs right before going up on stage.
Hey, I'm making a video review of all the music acts in which Anthony green was involved. If anybody knows any important information that you feel I should know about him, please LET ME KNOW -especially about those short-lived acts like Audience of One, Jeer at Rome or Green's involvement in Zolof the Rock & Roll Destroyer please holler! I HAVE A VIDEO POSTED -it's a bit outdated- that also states what kind of material and info I need. It's called "MDSK: Now in Production: Anthony Green Review"
26:56-26:18 Anthony singing “Is this a sign of the end? Are we losing him?” I’ve been coming back to this performance for the past 3 years anytime I’ve needed strength to keep making music, and by way of that, keep living. My interpretation since the first time I saw this, Anthony/Rx Bandits/Craig/everyone involved just exude this feeling of “wouldn’t that be really sad if we had given in and completely lost to depression or addictions a long time ago? Well it doesn’t have to end like that, you don’t have to end like that. Here’s a reminder of just one reason why it’s better to be alive”. And that feeling they imparted just has really stuck with me. Just beautiful music you guys ❤️
This is so inspiring, so many badasses collabing to do something fun and experimental together and creating such moving shit for no real reason other than to do it.
When I watched this dvd I was tripping on mescaline and it was unfathomably beautiful to listen to and observe. After the performance my friend and I went outside to the moonlit backyard for a cigarette. The trees swayed in motions that were exaggerated than a normal gust of wind to their branches; yet it felt so serene. My pal and I joked and conversed for a while before retreating to his room where I slumbered on the bed next to him. We stayed awake, with a pillow barrier lol, (9th grade mentality), and watched his ceiling fan rotate. The next morning was a school day and the big hand of the clock was rounding towards the 4. Nevertheless, that morning was a rough one; even with a shower. Regardless of our “hungover” condition, my friend and I went to school and had the most lethargic day. TLDR; TSOAF is the fucking shit
seriously, 59:00-1:01:23 is nominee for the best shit i've ever seen. PERFECT almost exactly the same as album screams from anthony green. so fucking good
5:00- Act 1: Chasing suns 12:00- Act 2: All is ash or the light shining through it 17:30- Act 3: Modulate back to the tonic 56:10- Act 4: You dont need a witness
Craig needs to learn to not buy little teenage girl shirts. Also, he was absolutely horrible in the live version of chasing sun's, which is probably why he wasn't invited back for their second and third tour. He also walks like a model with cerebal palsey on stage when coming to his mic to sing and Anthony Green was giving the "wtf are you on mate" look.
and learn to sing. He just felt out of place. Keith Goodwin was wakward but perfect. Craig Owens was prolly too high. Ye I'm gettin' judgey. Craig had some great moments, but everyone else was A1.
@@heretic3629 and you’ll see ernie also in their 2019 live set lol. It reminded me that very first time Circa Survive ever played an old but very emotional version of “Frozen Creek” live
I’m gonna be 90 years old and still coming back to this video.
lets be friends bro
100%
Same! A true gem

Chris Tsagakis is such an amazing freaking drummer
I used to put this on my headphones and blast the album out on drums. Really fun beats.

"It's making me nervous, how every day feels the same"
This song's lyrics haunt me.
I always enjoyed the live version of skullflower more for whatever reason. Really beautiful
i love anthony green in his solo stuff and circa, but i would love to see him with this band. they are awesome.
Joseph Garcia he is part of the sounds of animals fighting, he's actually the lead front man.
I seriously can't get over Matthew Kelly singing the heretic
one of the best male vocalists of our time
And one of the best songs from that album.
Art Sub ur fucking high mate
best band ever. best collaboration of best bands ever to create this euphoric taste of majestic amazingness. TSOAF REVIVAL

They're back my dude. Just saw them tonight!
can anyone else think of a band that even comes remotely close to this? i need more of this.
At The Drive-In and Mars Volta obviously are a key pick for this. I can’t think of any other bands that this one totally sounds like hahah
this is maybe the most brilliant thing i have ever seen
though craig owens doesn't sing that well
i've been thinking about doing creative stuff like they do with my band, that would be awesome
you guys are my inspiration
Thank you for posting this! This performance is amazing.
this is gold! Thank you so much
3/20/14 in Philly. I hope you folks are ready.
i cant stop watching this
Siento lastima por los que nunca han escuchado esta banda. De verdad es de las que pone mas empeño en sus trabajos
Ocean and Sun was released a year or two after their tour. Notice Craig Owens is still with them at this point in time the video was made.
Thank you so much.
Oh, i didnt think i was about to watch a mars volta concert with fringed indy kids.
Kicking myself for taking this long to watch them preform live
thanks
This one hour live show is a fucking journey.
Richard Balling was my english teacher!!!!!!!!! Wakeland highschool frisco tx swear to god look it up.. best mother fucking teacher ever!!!
THANK YOU!
@05ilikepie its collaborative. songs are written by different people on different songs
This is fucking magnificant! This is ART!
so funny how it's true, guy is pretty awesome for being a part of something like this, be an english teacher, and a published author. crazy.
there was an advertisement for 'curvation'. kind of eerily fitting from the whole beginning with 'the heritic' and the origins of the chanted lyric.
Who says band-geeks ain't cool...?
Who are the two artist painting and what is the artist using as his "canvas"
and "paint"
37:20 fucking KILLS that solo!!!
Keith in modulate back to the tonic mmph
and rx bandits dont get enough credit for how amazing they really are
its all about "My Horse Must Lose"
starts at 30:20
+chilipeppers79 a person of my own heart.
Dude who is the dude who sings this song? And what band is he in? Been looking for years and nust remembered to try again haha
I really can't tell if one of the singers is Chris Owen or not.

Now THAT is a fucking musical!
Encore song?
Whose the guy in thebeginning?
"You'll be last people to ever see this" ..
*Sobs*

this was great Las Vegas. you had to be there, but you weren't. 2 guys painting on stage in the background. fucking lost my shit.
This is literally peak humanity
Can anyone name all the songs they played from start to finish please? I want them all :)
@MyWishResigned whatever floats your boat yo. I personally like keith goodwins voice
if i saw this shit on acid i would freak the fuck outtt
where did you buy this at cuz i cant find it anywhere
@dropdeadjoe
The show isn't improv, but in the making of the album, it was.
And Rich Balling is the mastermind
What is the name of the first song they play after the 4 min mark?
Who does this band consist of? I'm confused with the constant vocalist switching I'm a huge fan of Anthony's voice and i've never heard of this
Craig Owens stop... ):
God dammit this is the most fucking amazing shit ever!!!!
no but hopefully they will since rx bandits isnt touring anymore
why 1 comment?
this shit is fucking beautiful
@TOOLaree couldn't have said it better myself.
My face melted for like the 8th time at 37:05-37:50
has anyone ever tabbed or found a tab for skullflower?
Anyone else hear "The Star Spangled Banner" during Craig's solo interlude?
11:00 Bert and Ernie are all about this show
Did they ever tour again after Ocean and Sun was released?
They are right now my dude
anyways, how'd you upload the whole thing

I was up front at this exact show 17 years ago for my 21st birthday and boy was it magical... 38 years old still reminiscing...
My ex gf made me miss this show and I broke up with her. But I’ve seen them twice since
How the FUCK was this 17 years ago. Thanks for the reality check

The physics house band. Thank me later
Craig needs to buy longer shirts.
Then how could he show of his little weiner? Maybe he's proud to be so estrogenic...
I cannot stand him. the face he makes when trying to belt out those notes in the beginning. lmao
